  • Installing Ubuntu on virtualbox with a windows 8 host

    Installing ubuntu-13.10-desktop-i386.iso gets me to the graphical login screen but after I enter the password I get a black screen. Ctrl-Alt-F2 brings me to a terminal where I can restart lightdm, enter my password again to see another black screen. The screen saver can actually kick into action there and I was told to update packages, but no unity or other ui, just blackenss. The host is windows8-x64 and Virtualbox 4.3.2. I tried installing ubuntu-12.04.3-desktop-i386.iso but that hung during setup. Is there a way to debug? I'm now trying to install Debian to see if that works but wow the network installer takes its sweet time... Update: Debian does work though it gives me a notification that Gnome 3 failed to load. The visual desktop works though so I don't know if there was a substantive problem.

It seems much faster than IE 8 and many other browsers and its got lots of cool features. Some of the ones I really like are: New tab format with one click creation and putting them up top. Cleaner UI Ability to drag a tab off the tab bar and have a new window created Integrated address / search box Support for HTML 5   check out http://www.beautyoftheweb.com/ to see some of the cool features.     Hi all, A short but sweet question: Can I use Apple's open source Core Foundation (CF classes) in a commercial product for free? That is, can I compile and link against the libraries without open sourcing my own applications's code? Obviously if I alter the original CF code, I would submit the changes.     Hi, In the application I am developing, I would like to send messages in the form of JSON objects to a Django Server and parse the JSON response from the server and populate a custom listview. From the little JSON knowledge I have, I thought this format for the response from server { "post": { "username": "someusername", "message": "this is a sweet message", "image": "http://localhost/someimage.jpg", "time": "present time" }, } How much knowledge of JSON should I have to accomplish this purpose?   • Importing wikipedia database dumb - kills navicat - anyone got any ideas?

    Ok guys I've downloaded the wikipedia xml dump and its a whopping 12 GB of data :\ for one table and I wanted to import it into mysql databse on my localhost - however its a humongous file 12GB and obviously navicats taking its sweet time in importing it or its more likely its hanged :(. Is there a way to include this dump or atleast partially at most you know bit by bit. Let me correct that its 21 GB of data - not that it helps :\ - does any one have any idea of importing humongous files like this into MySQL database.

The current behavior is such that all fields that is in list_editable displays a form field. However, i would like to change that only when people click on the field would it turn into a editable form field.     Hi all, I would like to display priority information in a drop down. Currently i am using a integer field to store the priority, but i would like to display high/medium/low instead of letting user type in a priority. A way to approximate this is to use a Priority database which stores 3 elements, 1:high, 2:medium, 3:low, but it seems like an overkill. Any easier way would be much appreciated! Jason

So, if a user clicks on a div that says "scroll down," it'll be the exact same behavior as if he/she clicked on the down arrow of the browser's scrollbar. Using the current browser's behavior would be optimal, vs. doing something like $.browser.scrolldown(200,'fast'). Something like $.browser.triggerDownArrowOnScrollBar() would be sweet!
