• How to capture any key in X?

  Hi, I am building an application for which I need to periodically get information about users keyboard. It is going to be user idle detection application. I have a fairly simple solution to periodically check if the mouse has been moved. But I can't figure any reasonable non root way to detect if the keyboard has been pressed. I was thinking about registering a hook every timer timeout and on any key press to unregister it. So if there is no key press for a long time then my program will know if the user is idle. Anyway, I couldn't find any global hooks for any key, including modifiers. Is there an easy way to do this? Or would someone have a better way to detect keyboard idleness? Thanks, David Polák

  Here is my problem: I have 2 tables: 1.WORKER, with coloumns |ID|OTHER_STAF| , where ID is primary key, and 2.FIRM, with coloumns |FPK|ID|SOMETHING_ELSE| , where combination FPK and ID make primary key, and also ID is a foreign key referenced to WORKER.ID (not null, and must have same value as in WORKER). I want to make stored procedure UPDATE_ID_WORKER, where I would like to change the value of specific ID in WORKER, and also in all instances of specific value of ID in FIRM. stored procedure: ........ @id .. ???? ........ • Using key().id() on GAE Datastore and reverse geocoding

  I have 6000 data of district, subdistrict. I need to represent this on dependent dropdown. The datamodel is for example; class Location(db.Model): location_name = db.StringProperty() location_parent = db.IntegerProperty() location_parent is reference to key() or id()? Still cannot decide which one is good. When i use key() as reference then using JSON to create jquery dependent drop down. My page loading/query and rendering time the dropdown is quite slow? Can i use key().id() as drop down option value to lighten up the page load? Any better solution for this parent/child reference for the drop down? For example: for the district record/entities the location-parent is null, for sub district record location_name will contain reference to parent district record. Other issue is to reverse geocoding the location to store or display geoPoint (lat,long)? Is google MAP API always find the exact lat,long of specific region boundaries or any error checking for the result?

  I, like many developers, got an email from Apple recently that stated we should move our data from the documents directory into another folder to permit more streamlined backup to iCloud. In recent testing it appears that [your app] stores a fair amount of data in its Documents folder. Since iCloud backups are performed daily over Wi-Fi for each user's iOS device, it's important to ensure the best possible user experience by minimizing the amount of data being stored by your app. Marco Arment, of instapaper fame, has a good take on the issue, which is that the recommended location for storing downloadable files is in /Library/Caches. However, the problem is that both /tmp and /Caches can be 'cleaned' anytime the OS decides that the device is running low on storage. If your app is cleaned then the data downloaded by your app and stored by your user is gone. Naturally, the user will blame you and not Apple. What to do?

• Remove registry key during uninstall

  Hello there. I have a simple C# application that allows users to specify that it should be (or should not be) started with Windows; it does so by setting (or deleting) a registry key (namely, ...\Software\Microsoft\CurrentVersion\Run\MyApplicationHere). I am using a VS setup project to create the installer for this program. I don't want the installer to create this key; it should only be created when the user selects the option from within the program. Here is the issue: I would like the uninstaller to delete this key if it exists, preferably without resorting to any sort of hackery; if there is a simple "built-in" solution I would love to hear it. • memcache redundancy changes key flag

  Hi all, I am using memcache in my php application. I am trying to implement redundancy by setting memcache.redundancy = 3 in memcache.ini. When i initially set a key the value of flag is 0 (using telnet). But when I replace the value of the key the flag changes to 768. Do you have any idea why is this happening and how to keep the key flag 0. I am using memcache-3.0.4 on ubuntu and php 5.2.4. Thanks

  I was just wondering if a storage engine type existed that allowed you to do version control on row level contents. For instance, if I have a simple table with ID, name, value, and ID is the PK, I could see that row 354 started as (354, "zak", "test")v1 then was updated to be (354, "zak", "this is version 2 of the value")v2 , and could see a change history on the row with something like select history (value) where ID = 354. It's kind of an esoteric thing, but it would beat having to keep writing these separate history tables and functions every time a change is made...

I want to develop an authentication scheme which is based on biometrics, Every human being have a unique key-hold time,digraph time error rate. Key-Hold Time : Time difference between pressing and releasing a key . Digraph Time : Time difference between releasing one and pressing next one. Error Rate : No of times backspace is pressed. I got these metrics from a paper "Keystroke-based User Identification on Smart Phones" by Saira Zahid1, Muhammad Shahzad1, Syed Ali Khayam1,2, Muddassar Farooq1. I was planning to get the datasets to test my algorithm from openmoko phone, but the phone is mis-behaving and I am finding trouble in generating these time data-sets. • belongs_to with a custom class_name not producing proper foreign key in Rails 3

  I am updating an application to Rails 3 and I am having trouble creating a custom foreign key. I have something like this: class Product < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :owner, :class_name => 'User' ... end class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :products ... end class ProductsController < ApplicationController before_filter :authenticate_user! def index @products = current_user.products end end The view: <%- @products.each do |p| -%> <%= p.created_at %><br /> <%- end -%> I get this error in my Rails log: Mysql::Error: Unknown column 'products.user_id' in 'where clause': SELECT `products`.* FROM `products` WHERE (`products`.user_id = 1) It should see the belongs_to :owner and look for a foreign key called owner_id. I even tried explicitly setting the foreign key and that does not work. I also checked lighthouse for a possible Rails 3 bug but no luck.

  I have a multi-row insert that looks something like: insert into table VALUES (1, 2, 3), (4, 5, 6), (7, 8, 9); Assume the first attribute (1, 4, 7) is a foreign key to another table and assume that this referenced table does not have the value '4'. A MySQLExeption is thrown with error code 1452. EXCEPTION: Cannot add or update a child row: a foreign key constraint fails (dbName/tableName, CONSTRAINT id FOREIGN KEY (customer_id) REFERENCES referencedTable (customer_id)) Is there a way to identify which value caused the error? I would love to give my user an error message that said something like: Error: '4' does not exist in the referenced table. I am using the .NET mysql connector to execute the insert. Thanks- Jonathan

• Binding key/value pairs loaded from xml

  I want to load key/values configuration pairs stored in XML file. To bind a collection of data i know i need to use the ArrayList class, but the problem is that i want to be able to bind the loaded values using their corresponding keys and not by their indexes in the ArrayList object. For example i want to be able to do this : <mx:Text id="errorText" text="{Config.params['someKey']}" /> instead of : <mx:Text id="errorText" text="{Config.params[0]}" /> where Config.params is ArrayList (obviously i couldn't use ArrayList since it doesn't allow selecting a value by key) So the question is how to bind the key/value pairs loaded form XML. I don't want to go manually set variables, i want to bind them so when they are loaded the are set automatically. Did anyone had to do something like that ?

  In c#, each thread has its own stack space. If this is the case, why is the following code not thread-safe? (It is stated that this code is thread-safe on this post: Locking in C# class Foo { private int count = 0; public void TrySomething() { count++; } } As count is an int (stack variable), surely this value would be isolated to an individual thread, on its own stack, and therefore thread-safe? I am probably missing something here, but I dont understand what is actually in Thread Local Storage if not stack-based variables for the thread?

  I'm using the low-level google datastore api and I want to query by the key property and another property (let's call it category). I need to query based on a list of keys for which I'll use the IN operator. I know that the max. number of values you can provide for the IN clause is 30. I have 2 questions: Does the limit of 30 IN values apply to the key property as well? Do I need to create a composite index on {_key_ + category} or just on {category} for this query? Thanks, Keyur

  I working with the latest draft of the twitter annotations api. An example bit of data looks like status { annotations : [ {myAnnotationType:{myKey:myValue}}, {someoneElsesAnnotationType:{theirKey:theirValue}}, ] } now i want to check a status to see if it has an annotation with myAnnotationType in it. If annotations was a hash instead of an array I could just write var ann = status.annotations.myAnnotationType.   There are 2 school of thoughts : Use surrogate key preferbly in the format of YYYYMMDD as this will always be sequential. Eliminate Date dimension surrogate key and use actual date instead. My Questions to experts on dimension modeling are : 1> Which design would you prefer and why ? 2> How should we handle unknown values in each of the cases, Can we simply place NULL in Fact table for unknown dates as Foreign Key can be NULL (if no why)? 3> If we need to partition fact table on date column ,how would we achieve that in case 1. I am inclined towards using actual date and using NULL to represent UNKNOWN dates in fact table , as date related validation on fact can be done without need to look in to dimension table.

  Hello i am designing a front end for Festival TTS using it's C++ API Everything is working fine in my programme but i have a problem that i am giving a drop down option to user to select other languages when user select a language from drop down then festival tts shows a message on console saying: SIOD:ran out of storage This message only shows if the text given to festival TTS is greater then 5 or 6 lines. i think this message comes because SIOD's heap is not free when i am going to call a new language.   I'm working on a project where we mix .NET code and native C++ code via a C++/CLI layer. In this solution I want to use Thread Local Storage via the __declspec(thread) declaration: __declspec(thread) int lastId = 0; However, at the first access of the variable, I get a NullReferenceException. To be more precise, the declaration is done within a ref class (a .NET class implemented in C++/CLI). I have already read something about __declspec(thread) does not work with delay loaded DLLs. Am I using delay loaded DLLs automatically if I use .NET?

  I want to execute a SQL query inside PL/SQL and populate the results into an associative array, where one of the columns in the SQL becomes the key in the associative array. For example, say I have a table Person with columns PERSON_ID INTEGER PRIMARY KEY PERSON_NAME VARCHAR2(50) ...and values like: PERSON_ID | PERSON_NAME ------------------------ 6 | Alice 15 | Bob 1234 | Carol I want to bulk collect this table into a TABLE OF VARCHAR2(50) INDEX BY INTEGER such that the key 6 in this associative array has the value Alice and so on. Can this be done in PL/SQL? If so, how?

• Can't send key to window with SendMessage

  I'm writing a C program under Windows that should send an ENTER key to a dialog box to close it automatically. I retrieve the handle to the top level window I'm interested in (by means of EnumDesktopWindows()) and then try to send an ENTER key using SendMessage (note also that closing the window by sending WM_CLOSE works fine). None of the following works: SendMessage( hTargetWindow, WM_CHAR, VK_RETURN, 0 ); SendMessage( hTargetWindow, WM_CHAR, VK_RETURN, 1 ); SendMessage( hTargetWindow, WM_KEYDOWN, VK_RETURN, 1 ); SendMessage( hTargetWindow, WM_KEYUP, VK_RETURN, 1 ); SendMessage( hTargetWindow, WM_KEYDOWN, VK_RETURN, 1 ); SendMessage( hTargetWindow, WM_CHAR, VK_RETURN, 1 ); SendMessage( hTargetWindow, WM_KEYUP, VK_RETURN, 1 ); and so on...   Hi, I have the following scenario: a table of projects and a table of persons, working on one or serveral projects. Also, I have a project id column (of type int), in the first table, which is a primary key there and I have a vector of project ids, as a column of type int, in my second table (persons), that references primary keys from the first table. What is the correct syntax for referencing multiple primary keys, from a vector foreign key. This is the way I am trying to create the table, but I am not sure what to place at the indicated line: CREATE TABLE Persons( Person_Id int, ..., ProjectsList int[], FOREIGN KEY (ProjectsList) REFERENCES Projects(Project_id) -- not sure what how to define the link here ); I hope my explanations are not over-complicated.   I finally got this google maps page working however, it seems that everybody except the client can see it? They're saying the following error message appears "This web site needs a different Google Maps API key. A new key can be generated at..." Here's the page: http://www.sportingemporium.com/google-map.htm When I sign-up for a new key Goggle gives me exactly the same one that I am already using! • In XAML is there way to bind key press and key release to specific commands?

  In my application I have keys that bound to commands using the KeyBinding class. The command is executed when the key is pressed and released. I have a special case where I want to bind separate commands to the pressed action and to the released action. For example when the space key is pressed I want my app to run a command to enter a special mode. Then when the space key is released I want to run another command to exit that special mode. Currently I do this by manually handling the KeyUp and KeyDown events. Is there anyway to execute commands for pressed and released purely in XAML?

  Hi all, For some project I have to make a dictionary in which the keys are urls,among which I have this url: http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll prd=windows&sbp=mediaplayer&ar=Media&sba=Guide&pver=6.2 the url is too long to fit in here I guess in one single line. there is a space between .dll and prd. I can build a dictionary without any errors this url is also a key. but for some reason when I want to extract the values associated to this key(url). I cannot, I get and error "error key:...." Does someone know what is wrong with this url? Are dictionary keys sensitive to some stuff? thanks

• Aes key length significance/implications

  Hi, I am using a AES algorithm in my application for encrypting plain text. I am trying to use a key which is a six digit number. But as per the AES spec, the key should be minimum sixteen bytes in length. I am planning to append leading zeros to my six digit number to make it a 16 byte and then use this as a key. Would it have any security implications ? I mean will it make my ciphertext more prone to attacks. Please help.
