  • WCF RIA Services Custom Type with Collection of Custom Types

    Is it possible to have a custom type within a custom type and have the result returned via WCF RIA services? I have the following two classes below, but I can't gain access to the Verticies property within the Polygon class. I assume it is because it is a custom class, or something to do with it being a List collection.   • Is it possible to provide a resize indication (resizer-grip) on a form without adding a status bar?

    I would like to have a resize indication on a windows forms Form (the same resize-grip as when you have a status bar). I do not want to add a status bar to the form - that would break the design of the form. The form can have various controls inside that are docked (Fill). I have not found any solution to this besides drawing the resize indication in lower right corner of every control, which is not very feasible. Is this possible without adding a picture of the resize grip to every control that can be docked in the form?

  • Android GPS cloud of confusion!

    I am trying to design my first Android application with the use of GPS. As of right now, I have a drawable button that when clicked, alerts a Toast message of the longitude and latitude. I have tried to use the telnet localhost 5554 and then geo fix #number #number to feed in values but no results display just 0 0. I have also tried DDMS way of sending GPS coordinates and I get the same thing. My question is what exactly is the code equivalent to the geo fix and the DDMS way of sending coordinates. I have used Location, LocationManger and LocationListener but I am not sure which is the right choice. Could anyone explain to me what the code-equivalent just so I can get a better understanding of how to fix my application not working.     I am trying to install Oracle Client 11.1.0.7 on a Windows Server 2008 64-bit. To some this might not be rocket science but I can't understand what the options under the install screen "Specify Home Details" mean. The defaults given suggest that I use Oracle Base and install software under my own account name. It also suggests that each user should have a separate Oracle Base. This seems counter intuitive to me. I am doing a server install after all. All I want to use the installation for is to connect to an Oracle Database from Reporting Services. Can I safely ignore this and just accept the defaults? What are the implications if I change the location to a common directory?

  • How to quickly start Programs like "regedit.exe" from the Windows 7 search bar using substring match

    The search bar in Windows 7 is very convenient to quickly start applications by pressing the Win-key and then entering the name of the application. For applications with a Program Menu entry like Firefox, it is sufficient to type Fire and Firefox will be displayed in the Programs section of the search results. For other applications like regedit.exe, I have to type the full command regedit before the correct choice regedit.exe appears. Is there any way to have regedit.exe appear already when I have just entered a substring? Please note: I have seen Add my applications to Vista’s Start Search, but I don't want to add anything to the Start Menu manually. This question is about if there is some configuration that can be tuned to make the results appear. I have also seen Search behavior of Windows 7 start menu, but my problem is not that the exe appears under Files, regedit.exe correctly appears under Programs, but it should appear already for a substring match.

  • How would you parse the location text from Twitter to get the latitude/longitude in Objective-C?

    The location text from Twitter could be just about anything. Sometimes Twitter clients set the location with the user's latitude and longitude in the following format. "\U00dcT: 43.05948,-87.908409" Since there is no built-in support for Regular Expressions in Objective-C I am considering using the NSString functions like rangeOfString to pull the float values out of this string. For my current purpose I know the values with start with 43 and 87 so I can key off those values this time but I would prefer to do better than that. What would you do to parse the latitude/longitude from this string?

I want to redirect the user back to the login if they click "no" and to the homepage if they click "yes".

I'm at a web page, any web page, and I am scrolling back to the top of the page with the up arrow key as I tend to do when browsing a page and once I get to the top of the page if I don't pay attention and hit the key one more times than is needed Chromium in all it's wisdom decides I must want to do something with the address so it places the focus in the address bar. ARGH! Any way to stop this? I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty and have installed the nightly build version of Chromium PPA.

    How do I upload a file from a Java servlet to a location on a web server within Tomcat/webapps. I am using Commons upload. I have a location such as myserver:8080/myapp/mylocation where I want to put the files that are uploaded. I tried using getServletContext().getRealPath("/"); to find where I am and then appended that with mylocation but I get a nullpointer exception. I know I sound vague, it's because I am confused about the big picture, what are the generals steps I need to perform to make this work. Any code or links to code would be much appreciated.

    I find the message: "waiting for static.ak.fbcdn.net..." on the status bar of my browser everytime I load Facebook and many a times even while loading other websites. I searched on net and found out that static.ak.fbcdn.net stands for static akamai facebook content delivery network. I reckon that static.ak.fbcdn.net is the server URL from where Facebook delivers contents to our browser. Am I right? Can anyone elaborate? Also, why does the above mentioned message appear while loading other websites too?

  • Is there a way to have a working search bar in Explorer with Windows Search Service disabled?

    I had to disable Windows Search Service (turn it off in Windows Features) for the reason that it was constantly using the hard drive in an excessive way (maybe because I've got very large quantities of files on my PC), noticeably slowing down my computer, and the Windows.edb database file grew way too large, about 2.5 GB in size. But the side-effect of it is that now the search bar is gone from any Explorer window and I miss this useful feature. So my question is, is there a way to stop Windows Search Service torturing my hard drive and still being able to search for files and folders directly from Explorer, perhaps using some third-party software?

    I have the following list comprehension which returns a list of coordinate objects for each location. coordinate_list = [Coordinates(location.latitude, location.longitude) for location in locations] This works. Now suppose the location object has a number_of_times member. I want a list comprehension to generate n Coordinate objects where n is the number_of_times for the particular location. So if a location has number_of_times = 5 then the coordinates for that location will be repeated 5 times in the list. (Maybe this is a case for a for-loop but I'm curious if it can be done via list comprehensions)

  • How much does the geographical location of DNS servers matter?

    We have started to run our own DNS servers located in Asia since that's where our main audience is. However, it seems that some users in the US are having difficulties accessing our website sometimes. I've noticed myself that DNS lookups of our domain from the US are relatively slow (500 msec+). Maybe the problems some users are having are due to other DNS configuration errors, but in general, how much of an issue is the geographical location of DNS servers? Should we have an additional server in the US?

    For some reason it seems to me that at least one failover should be in the same building. But really I have no idea. Could there be an issue with routing delays for users during a failure? I'm just imagining reasons at this point. Let me know, should at least one failover node be at the same geographic location as the other? I am trying to prevent what appears to be a poor decision so any feedback or life experience you can share would be grand. Will mostly be running Windows Server 2008 with SQL Server 2008 as our guest OS.

    Hello, I'm sure this has been asked but I'm not quite sure how to properly search for this question, my apologies. I have two tables, Foo and Bar. For has one row per Food, bar has many rows per food matching descriptors. Foo name id Apple 1 Orange 2 Bar id description 1 Tasty 1 Ripe 2 Sweet etc (sorry for the somewhat contrived example). I'm trying to return a query where if, for each row in Foo, Bar contains a descriptor in ('Tasty', 'Juicy') return true ex: Output Apple True Orange False I had been solving this somewhat trivially with a case when I only had one item to match select Foo.name, case bar.description when 'Tasty' then True else 'False' end from Foo left join Bar on foo.id = bar.id where bar.description = 'Tasty' But with multiple items, I keep ending up with extra rows: Output Apple True Apple False etc etc Can someone point me in the right direction on how to think about this problem or what I should be doing?     I have a simple class that draws a line when mouse dragging or a dot when mouse pressing(releasing). When I minimize the application and then restore it, the content of the window disappears except the last dot (pixel). I understand that the method super.paint(g) repaints the background every time the window changes, but the result seems to be the same whether I use it or not. The difference between the two of them is that when I don't use it there's more than a pixel painted on the window, but not all my painting. How can I fix this?   • Can Windows 7 place a task bar on each monitor, which only shows applications running on that screen

    I would like to have a task bar on each of my monitors, but I only want applications that are currently on that monitor to be displayed on its taskbar. This can be accomplished using UltraMon, however the taskbar shown on the secondary and tertiary monitors is not the native Windows 7 taskbar, but rather made to try to simulate how it looks and feels. As good as it is, it is missing a ton of the features I find best about the taskbar, such as program grouping, "peeking" at applications and so forth. So I am wondering if there is a way to make Windows 7 actually display its native awesome taskbar on multiple monitors.

  • After deleting a local machines offline file cache, the same user's "my documents" no longer redirects to the network location.

    One of my apprentices was tasked with clearing out unused local profiles and clearing the offline file cache. After he cleared the offline file cache and rebooted the machine, he would log in as himself and no longer have his "my documents" redirected to the set network location. More over this seemed to then affect ANY other networked machine he logged into, except his own laptop. All our standard workstations run Windows XP Service Pack 3, the apprentice's laptop runs Windows 7 Professional. I can understand how clearing the offline file cache after deleting old local profiles could cause this issue but draw a complete blank as to why it would affect all networked machines. It's a strange one so this question may be a little hard to understand so any questions or further understanding required please ask.
