• GlassFish and JavaEE Roadmap Update

  As announced at JavaOne, GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 4.1 is scheduled for 2014. ?Oracle is planning updates as needed to GlassFish Server Open Source Edition, which is commercially unsupported?. Oracle has announced the following updates to the GlassFish roadmap: The trunk will eventually transition to GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 5 as a Java EE 8 implementation. ?The Java EE 8 Reference Implementation will be derived from GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 5. This replicates what has been done in past Java EE and GlassFish Server releases. Oracle will no longer release future major releases of Oracle GlassFish Server with commercial support – specifically Oracle GlassFish Server 4.x with commercial Java EE 7 support will not be released.?Commercial Java EE 7 support will be provided from WebLogic Server. Oracle GlassFish Server will not be releasing a 4.x commercial version.   Oracle is committed to the future of Java EE. Java EE 7 has been released and planning for Java EE 8 has begun. GlassFish Server Open Source Edition continues to be the strategic foundation for Java EE reference implementation going forward. • Is my client correct that I cannot take a vacation as a subcontractor? [closed]

  I have 2 clients who I do ongoing work for as a subcontractor. Both are sporadic and part-time. Company A sent me to a 3 day certification course out of state. The following week I was scheduled for a 3 day vacation. I warned company B three weeks prior to these events. During my training that Company A was paying for, Company B asked me to leave the training to workon something for them that needed immediate attention. I declined. However I made arrangements to work on it in the evening and in the early mornings after they threatened to take the work and all subsequent work for this client to someone else. I lost all networking and fun from that trip... The following week I was in Florida and was again asked to do more work on the project after the feedback from the client. The integrated product personnel would not cooperate/return any of our calls so I did the best I could. I turned in the work, explained the issue and then was gone for 3 hours. When I returned, all my access to the project had been revoked and after a week of my calls and emails I found out they replaced me. I sent an invoice 3 weeks ago and they tell me they owe me nothing because I did not do the whole project and they cannot bill the client for what I did, because they are billing for the second contractor who started over. I was told that they realize I was on vacation but as a subcontractor I lose the ability to just disappear. I was gone 3 hours! Is this normal, correct, legal?? Not only did they ruin my class and my vacation, but now they expect me to not demand payment? They ended our relationship and I was in the middle of another project of theirs too. They told me to immediately cease all work for them. How do I get paid for the work I have yet to invoice this month?

• 404s on password protected content

  I'm new to WordPress and SEO, generally, but we've been running into problems with our site that don't seem to make sense to me. The problem is that our editor likes to schedule posts and/or mark them private until she is ready to make them public, but somehow Google is crawling these posts and getting 404s (because they are password protected). How does Google know they exist in the first place? I checked the sitemap.xml file and don't see a record of the post. One of the offending posts was marked public, but is scheduled for a future date. Could that have something to do with it? I've tried to Google the answer, and I came up with a good amount of reassurance that this won't hurt the site, but I'm still wondering how it's happening in the first place. It's hard because I don't know exactly what the editor's workflow is. Is it possible she's posting publicly first and then revising it to be private only after it's too late? Does anyone know how Google finds WordPress URLs it shouldn't have access to?

• My first blog post…

  I’ve been meaning to start a blog for a while now, (OK, for several years…..) - finally now, here it begins First post, something really simple but, a wise-man once told me about the best way to improve SQL server performance. Store Less Data. That's it.. that's all there is to it... Over the years, I've seen the following :- -  a 200Gb database which held 3 days data. Once business requirements changed, we were able to hold only 1 days data in this database. -  a table developed by DBAs to hold application table cardinality information - that information was collected at 2 hour intervals every day for 7 years ! After 7 years the DBA space-info table had become the largest table in the database - 60 million rows !  It was a simple change to remove alot of the historical intra-day data and change the schedule to run only once per evening. Suddenly that table held 6 million rows instead of 60 million.... - lots of backup and restore history held in msdb. See this post by Brent Ozar for more details on this issue. Imagine how much faster the backups, DBCC Checks and reindexes ran when the above 3 changes were implemented ?   How often do you review your big databases \ tables to see if you’re actually holding only data that is really required by the business ?

• Late feedback

  MySQL Community team asked me to write about Devconf 2013 few months ago. Conference was in June, 2013, but I remembered about this my promise only now: month later after my participating in MySQL Connect and Expert Troubleshooting seminar (change country to United Kingdom if you see blank page). I think it is too late for the feedback, but I still have few thoughts which I want to record.DevConf (former PHPConf) always was a place where I tried new topics. At first, because I know audience there very well and they will be bored if I repeat a story which I was telling last year, but also because it is much easier to get feedback in your own native language. But last years my habit seems started to change and I presented improved version of my 2012 MySQL Connect talk about MySQL backups. Of course, I also had a seminar with unique topic, made for this conference first time: Troubleshooting MySQL Performance with EXPLAIN and Using Performance Schema to Troubleshoot MySQL. And these topics, improved, were presented at the expert seminar. It is interesting how my habit changes and one public speaking activity interferes next one.What is good about DevConf is it forces you to create new ideas and do it really well, because audience is not forgiving at all, so they catch everything you miss or prepared not good enough. This can be bad if you want to make a marketing-style topic for free, but allows to present technical features in really good details: all these sudden discussions really help.In year 2013 Oracle had a booth at the conference and was presented by a bunch of people. Dmitry Lenev presented topic "New features of replication in MySQL 5.6" and Victoria Reznichenko worked on the booth. What was new at the conference this year is greater interest in NoSQL, scale and fast development solutions. This, unfortunately, means not so huge interest in MySQL as it was earlier. However, at the same time, "Common" track was really MySQL track: not only Oracle, but people from other companies presented about it.

• Why is my disk full?

  I installed Ubuntu 12.04 by doing a fresh install where there was previously Ubuntu 11.10. My computer warns me now that my disk is nearly full. After having run apt-get purge, run apt-get autoremove and emptied the Trash can, I still have this problem as shown by this screenshot of Gparted: The disk /dev/sda7 is indeed full. I ran the Disk Usage Analyzer (Baobab) and I am still not sure of what is happening: One of my hypothesis is that when installing Ubuntu 12.04, I didn't configure my disks well and the disk /dev/sda6 is not mounted well as /home. Is this the reason indeed? What should I do to verify this and then to get the things fixed? Here are a few additional details to answer the questions I received (thank you everybody): My home directory is not encrypted. The Backup utility (Déjà Dup) is not set for automatic backups. (I do it myself and manually.) After I mount /dev/sda6, the command df -h gives Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda7 244G 221G 12G 96% / udev 3,9G 4,0K 3,9G 1% /dev tmpfs 1,6G 904K 1,6G 1% /run none 5,0M 0 5,0M 0% /run/lock none 3,9G 164K 3,9G 1% /run/shm /dev/sda6 653G 189G 433G 31% /media/8ec2fa69-039b-4c52-ab1b-034d785132a1 (sorry but formatting this into code does not work, for an unknown reason) Thanks to izx's post, I realized /dev/sda6 was not even mounted before. • Windows Defender Update KB915597 (Definition 1.135.415.0)? Killed My Live Discs

  Here's my problem, for those willing to read for about 2 minutes here's the entire story, http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-windows_update/bsod-after-windows-defender-update-kb915597/a4b5fca3-0274-47b4-97c4-61b34c4c4599, for those who want the short version here's what happened. After windows update automatically updated windows defender to kb915597, my computer starting getting bsods on shut down and start up and started experiencing problems withe the usb ports. So I decided to go to the microsoft answers site for help, I know that was probably my first mistake, so I followed their advice and they turned my computer into a large paper weight. Luckily I make physical backups of my c drive every few months and I have one from back in july, so I figured I'd boot up a ubuntu live disc, copy all my files from the past 2 months to a external drive and just copy the backup back to the c drive, that's where I ran into this problem. When I put in either a ubuntu or kubuntu disc, everything goes well, until it finishes the loading bar then when the OS would presumably start up, the computer resets, I've tried with ubuntu, kubuntu and gparted, and only gparted is able to get to the point where it starts up, but even then when I try to access the internet from it, the computer resets, and when I tried to copy the entire C drive partition to a blank external I wasn't able to. So I figured somehow maybe the C drive had something to do with it, so I unplugged the C drive so my computer was just a 2.8 ghz processor and 2 gigs of ram, should have had no problem starting a live disc but the problem still continues. After doing some googling around I've found whenever windows gets a update with the title KB915597 it's pretty much the kill switch for windows, I've tried contacting microsoft tech support and even managed to directly contact a software engineer but as soon as I mention KB915597 they all just blew me off. I hope anybody who reads this has any idea how to fix this, I'm going to attempt to install ubuntu or kubuntu to a external drive using the same computer and see what happens now.

• WUBI installation can no longer boot, UUID disk not found

  Yesterday my Wubi/Vista installation was working fine. I shut it down at the train station, all good then when I attempted to boot ubuntu at home I got a message saying the UUID for root could not be found. By booting with the Ubuntu live CD I found that the C:\ubuntu\disks folder stat structure was broken, reported as "??? ??? ??" kinda thing. I booted into Windows, scheduled a CHKDSK, ran that on boot which found some errors and rebooted. Still no dice. I am not stressed because it appears my home directory is still there with all my content so I don't mind re-installing the OS (probably will clean it up some). What is the best path from here to repair the WUBI installation? Is there anything else I should do to repair it? I'm looking at whether the drive is dying now to work out why this occured. Possibly I moved the laptop before shutdown had completed.

• Is there a product planning tool that has these specific features? [closed]

  I am working on a web startup in the early stages, and we are struggling a bit to manage the scope and scheduling of our product. We have loads of high-level features in the pipeline, but we need a good way of scheduling them for release iterations and breaking them into actual tasks that can be scheduled (that could be a separate tool, but integration would be preferred). I would say that our product can be pretty cleanly divided into "aspects", and we want to be able to separate features by the aspect to which they apply. Perhaps most importantly, it should be really simple to create and move features between target release points. We don't have physical space for a war room type setup, so whatever we settle upon should ideally have a cloud-type web interface. Right now, we're using Excel to make a grid of product aspects vs. target releases, and we store features at the intersections. But this is not providing a good way of indexing tasks to those features or being able to move them around. I would much rather have something that automates the grid overview. I'm less interested in something that helps with low-level scheduling than I am in something that is good at organizing the product plan at the long-term, high-level view. Is there a product planning tool out there that matches these specifications?

• Process that needs a volume starting before volume mounts

  The destination for incoming CrashPlan backups on my server (11.04) is /media/SeagateBig (SeagateBig is the volume name of my 2TB USB drive). When the server boots, two things happen: 1) SeagateBig auto-mounts and 2) CrashPlan starts. The problem is, that often these two things don't happen in that order. Then I get: Crashplan starts looks for /media/SeagateBig doesn't find it instead of waiting for it, CREATES IT Now it's backing up onto my / filesystem. NOT COOL. Meanwhile, when SeagateBig finally gets around to mounting, it finds that /media/SeagateBig already exists, shrugs, and creates /media/SeagateBig_ as its mount point. What I need is a way for the order to be enforced - where SeagateBig mounts and then and only then the CrashPlan service is started. Unless I learn that CrashPlan can be told to wait for its destination directory, never to create it... which I am also investigating. But the CrashPlanEngine script is installed by the product so I am loath to modify it, as I know I could by having it loop until df greps successfully for "SeagateBig".

• New functionality in TFS Build Manager &ndash; Managing Triggers and Build Resources

  Yesterday we pushed out a new release (August 2012) of the Community TFS Build Extension, including a new version of the Community TFS Build Manager (1.0.4.6) The two big new features in the Build Manager in this release are: Set Triggers It is now possible to select one or more build definitions and update the triggers for them in one simple operation: You’ll note that we have started collapsing the context menu a bit, the list of commands are getting long! When selecting the Trigger command, you’ll see a dialog where the options should be self-explanatory: The only thing missing here is the Scheduled trigger option, you’ll have to do that using Team Explorer for now.   Manage Build Resources The other feature is that it is now possible to view the build controllers and agents in your current collection and also perform some actions against them. The new functionality is available by select the Build Resources item in the drop down menu: Selecting this, you’ll see a (sort of) hierarchical view of the build controllers and their agents: In this view you can quickly see all the resources and their status. You can also view the build directory of each build agent and the tags that are associated with them. On the action menu, you can enable and disable both agents and controllers (several at a time), and you can also select to remove them. By selecting Manage, you’ll be presented with the standard Manage Controller dialog from Visual Studio where you can set the rest of the properties. Hopefully we’ll be able to implement most of the existing functionality so that we can remove that menu option Our plan is to add more functionality to this view, such as adding new agents/controllers, restarting build service hosts, maybe view diagnostic information such as disk space and error logs.   Hope you’ll find the new functionality useful. • Context switches much slower in new linux kernels

  We are looking to upgrade the OS on our servers from Ubuntu 10.04 LTS to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Unfortunately, it seems that the latency to run a thread that has become runnable has significantly increased from the 2.6 kernel to the 3.2 kernel. In fact the latency numbers we are getting are hard to believe. Let me be more specific about the test. We have a program that has two threads. The first thread gets the current time (in ticks using RDTSC) and then signals a condition variable once a second. The second thread waits on the condition variable and wakes up when it is signaled. It then gets the current time (in ticks using RDTSC). The difference between the time in the second thread and the time in the first thread is computed and displayed on the console. After this the second thread waits on the condition variable once more. So, we get a thread to thread signaling latency measurement once a second as a result. In linux 2.6.32, this latency is somewhere on the order of 2.8-3.5 us, which is reasonable. In linux 3.2.0, this latency is somewhere on the order of 40-100 us. I have excluded any differences in hardware between the two host hosts. They run on identical hardware (dual socket X5687 {Westmere-EP} processors running at 3.6 GHz with hyperthreading, speedstep and all C states turned off). We are changing the affinity to run both threads on physical cores of the same socket (i.e., the first thread is run on Core 0 and the second thread is run on Core 1), so there is no bouncing of threads on cores or bouncing/communication between sockets. The only difference between the two hosts is that one is running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with kernel 2.6.32-28 (the fast context switch box) and the other is running the latest Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with kernel 3.2.0-23 (the slow context switch box). Have there been any changes in the kernel that could account for this ridiculous slow down in how long it takes for a thread to be scheduled to run?

• Efficient algorithm for Virtual Machine(VM) Consolidation in Cloud

  PROBLEM: We have N physical machines(PMs) each with ram Ri, cpu Ci and a set of currently scheduled VMs each with ram requirement ri and ci respectively Moving(Migrating) any VM from one PM to other has a cost associated which depends on its ram ri. A PM with no VMs is shut down to save power. Our target is to minimize the weighted sum of (N,migration cost) by migrating some VMs i.e. minimize the number of working PMs as well as not to degrade the service level due to excessive migrations. My Approach: Brute Force approach is choosing the minimum loaded PM and try to fit its VMs to other PMs by First Fit Decreasing algorithm or we can select the victim PMs and target PMs based on their loading level and shut down victims if possible by moving their VMs to targets. I tried this Greedy approach on the Data of Baadal(IIT-D cloud) but It isn't giving promising results. I have also tried to study the Ant colony optimization for dynamic VM consolidating but was unable to understand very much. • Oneric Aspire One. After latest 11.10 update to Linux 3.0.0-9 boot hangs at staement "Starting Bluetooth"

  I have today updated the version of Linux on Ubuntu on my Acer Aspire One. The boot hangs on the statement "Starting Bluetooth". Help please!! EDIT1: I get the grub menu when I start the netbook and it doesn´t matter which version of linux I choose the resulkt is the same. It gets as far as the Ubuntu spash screen then drops into command line mode then hangs on the line "Starting Bluetooth". I can log in and have tried various forms of the apt-get command to fix the system but with no result. I do not need bluetooth at the moment and so could remove the application if I knew how. (have tried apt-get remove bluez). When I use the command sudo apt-get -f install I get an error message saying "There's not enough space in /var/lib/mysql/" folowed by several other error messages. I have spent some time looking for similar problems and solutions using google but so far got to nothing to help. Thanks EDIT2: I have since discovered when running Knoppix or slitaz from a usb stick that the file managers report the hard disc as having no space. However GPARTED reports it as having 3.69gb. I do recall making space on the hard drive by deleting some old files and emptying trash whilst the update was running; perhaps its related. Any suggestions for how I can recover the apparently lost space from hard disc without losing the data. I have backups of the actual data but do not wnat to lose the applcations configuration. • need a different backup solution

  I just built a new media/backup server using Ubuntu 12.04 64bit. I installed a hard drive to be used only for music, pictures, and videos and formatted it fat32 so my 1 and only Windows PC could map those folders as netshares. My laptop, also running Ubuntu 12.04, is what I am using the most so new media is first downloaded on my laptop. I've already got the music, videos, and pictures folders from my server mounting as shares on my laptop on boot thanks to some fstab edits and sshfs. Now I'm wanting either an app or script that could backup any new files I add to my local media folders to the mounted folders on my server. I've been Googling all day and found a few apps like rsync but they seem to have issues with ext4 to vfat backups. I thought maybe a script would be best but I'm new to scripting in Linux and don't want to mess anything up. Basically I am looking for something that will backup only newly added files to the server. I figure I could schedule it once a week. There are some stipulations. For example, my local music folder has over 700 folders for each artist/band then sub folders inside those for albums. I want something smart enough to only copy newly added content so I'm guessing the modified date would probably be a good condition if I were scripting. I'm rambling. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. I'm not finding anything to suit my needs. I'm almost to the point of just learning bas scripting so I can write something but then it will be a couple weeks or so before I have a possible solution and I'd like something in place sooner.

• Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal and AMD 12.11 Beta Driver

  I'm using a Quantal AMDx64 install and a XFX Radeon HD5850 video card. I first enabled restricted drivers through additional drivers, but it resulted in breaking Unity and Compiz (I can only see my wallpaper and shortcuts. But the terminal still works and Nautilus too, however, without Close/Maximize/Minimize and slower). Then I uninstalled it and everything went back to normal. Then I installed it via terminal (12.10 version), and the result was the same. Then I downloaded it via ATI's web site (12.11 beta) and installed the .run file using the terminal, but the result was yet again the same. Then I went to the terminal and entered these commands: sudo apt-get remove --purge fglrx fglrx_* fglrx-amdcccle* fglrx-dev* - It said it had nothing to uninstall sudo rm /ect/x11/xorg.conf - No such directory sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg sudo startx sudo cp/ect/x11/xorg.conf.orig /ect/x11/xorg.conf - Also, no such directory sudo aticonfig --initial sudo reboot Then, I was presented with the log in screen, but when I tried to login (with my account), it flashed a black screen and then threw me back. Guest account still works (without unity and compiz, tough) and I can still use TTY. And I also got the "AMD Testing Only" watermark. Then I figured that I should stop messing with the terminal and get help before I unleashed Apocalypse XD. Side notes: My Ubuntu is installed on a ext4 partition with 60GB, and I dual boot with Windows 7 (at least for now). My internet is a 50kbps 3G-ish, so downloading even small files is a pain, let alone a video driver. I would rather not reinstall the O.S., it was a herculean task to download everything I had in there, and I have very little free disk space for backups. I'm still new to Ubuntu (I know some basic commands), and I don't know how to debug, so please, be patient XD And using Windows, my internet is even slower (is that possible?), so it kind of leaves a torture aftertaste xD. So, if you guys could answer quickly, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. If you need any info, just ask (and explain how to get it XD).

• CCMoveBy values on update()

  Hope you can help me. This is my problem: I have a scheduled update, here I track the movements of my objects (sprites), I move them with CCMoveBy, and I need to constantly update the zOrder. For setting the zOrder I've made a setZOrder(), which it takes the actual position of the sprite. And here is the problem, I get all the X and Y values AFTER the object is in the target. I know I get the values after the object is in the new position because I've made a CCLog. I can read all the values from the sprite, only when it's in the new position, so everything is well sorted only when the objects are not moving. How can I get the CCMoveBy values on every tick update? (or how can I get the CCMoveBy values in "real-time"?) • OIM 11g notification framework

  OIM 11g has introduced an improved and template based Notifications framework. New release has removed the limitation of sending text based emails (out-of-the-box emails) and enhanced to support html features. New release provides in-built out-of-the-box templates for events like 'Reset Password', 'Create User Self Service' , ‘User Deleted' etc. Also provides new APIs to support custom templates to send notifications out of OIM. OIM notification framework supports notification mechanism based on events, notification templates and template resolver. They are defined as follows: Ø Events are defined as XML file and imported as part of MDS database in order to make notification event available for use. Ø Notification templates are created using OIM advance administration console. The template contains the text and the substitution 'variables' which will be replaced with the data provided by the template resolver. Templates support internationalization and can be defined as HTML or in form of simple text. Ø Template resolver is a Java class that is responsible to provide attributes and data to be used at runtime and design time. It must be deployed following the OIM plug-in framework. Resolver data provided at design time is to be used by end user to design notification template with available entity variables and it also provides data at runtime to replace the designed variable with value to be displayed to recipients. Steps to define custom notifications in OIM 11g are: Steps# Steps 1. Define the Notification Event 2. Create the Custom Template Resolver class 3. Create Template with notification contents to be sent to recipients 4. Create Event triggering spots in OIM 1. Notification Event metadata The Notification Event is defined as XML file which need to be imported into MDS database. An event file must be compliant with the schema defined by the notification engine, which is NotificationEvent.xsd. XML file notation tag 2. Events is root tag 3. EventType tag is to declare a unique event name which will be available for template designing 4. The StaticData element lists a set of parameters which allow user to add parameters that are not data dependent. In other words, this element defines the static data to be displayed when notification is to be configured. An example of static data is the User entity, which is not dependent on any other data and has the same set of attributes for all event instances and notification templates. Available attributes are used to be defined as substitution tokens in the template. 5. Attribute tag is child tag for StaticData to declare the entity and its data type with unique reference name. User entity is most commonly used Entity as StaticData. 6. StaticData closing tag 7. Resolver tag defines the resolver class. The Resolver class must be defined for each notification. It defines what parameters are available in the notification creation screen and how those parameters are replaced when the notification is to be sent. Resolver class resolves the data dynamically at run time and displays the attributes in the UI. 8. The Param DataType element lists a set of parameters which allow user to add parameters that are data dependent. An example of the data dependent or a dynamic entity is a resource object which user can select at run time. A notification template is to be configured for the resource object. Corresponding to the resource object field, a lookup is displayed on the UI. When a user selects the event the call goes to the Resolver class provided to fetch the fields that are displayed in the Available Data list, from which user can select the attribute to be used on the template. Param tag is child tag to declare the entity and its data type with unique reference name. 9. Resolver closing tag 10 EventType closing tag 11. Events closing tag Note: - DataType needs to be declared as “X2-Entity” for User entity and “91-Entity” for Resource or Organization entities. The dynamic entities supported for lookup are user, resource, and organization. Once notification event metadata is defined, need to be imported into MDS database. Fully qualified resolver class name need to be define for XML but do not need to load the class in OIM yet (it can be loaded later). 2. Coding the notification resolver All event owners have to provide a resolver class which would resolve the data dynamically at run time. Custom resolver class must implement the interface oracle.iam.notification.impl.NotificationEventResolver and override the implemented methods with actual implementation. It has 2 methods: S# Methods Descriptions 1. public List<NotificationAttribute> getAvailableData(String eventType, Map<String, Object> params); This API will return the list of available data variables. These variables will be available on the UI while creating/modifying the Templates and would let user select the variables so that they can be embedded as a token as part of the Messages on the template. These tokens are replaced by the value passed by the resolver class at run time. Available data is displayed in a list. The parameter "eventType" specifies the event Name for which template is to be read.The parameter "params" is the map which has the entity name and the corresponding value for which available data is to be fetched. Public HashMap<String, Object> getReplacedData(String eventType, Map<String, Object> params); This API would return the resolved value of the variables present on the template at the runtime when notification is being sent. The parameter "eventType" specifies the event Name for which template is to be read.The parameter "params" is the map which has the base values such as usr_key, obj_key etc required by the resolver implementation to resolve the rest of the variables in the template. Defining the template To create a notification template: Log in to the Oracle Identity Administration Click the System Management tab and then click the Notification tab From the Actions list on the left pane, select Create On the Create page, enter values for the following fields under the Template Information section: Template Name: Demo template Description Text: Demo template Under the Event Details section, perform the following: From the Available Event list, select the event for which the notification template is to be created from a list of available events. Depending on your selection, other fields are displayed in the Event Details section. Note that the template Sample Notification Event created in the previous step being used as the notification event. The contents of the Available Data drop down are based on the event XML StaticData tag, the drop down basically lists all the attributes of the entities defined in that tag. Once you select an element in the drop down, it will show up in the Selected Data text field and then you can just copy it and paste it into either the message subject or the message body fields prefixing $ symbol. Example if list has attribute like First_Name then message body will contains this as $First_Name which resolver will parse and replace it with actual value at runtime. In the Resource field, select a resource from the lookup. This is the dynamic data defined by the Param DataType element in the XML definition. Based on selected resource getAvailableData method of resolver will be called to fetch the resource object attribute detail, if method is overridden with required implementation. For current scenario, Map<String, Object> params will get populated with object key as value and key as “resource” in the map. This is the only input will be provided to resolver at design time. You need to implement the further logic to fetch the object attributes detail to populate the available Data list. List string should not have space in between, if object attributes has space for attribute name then implement logic to replace the space with ‘_’ before populating the list. Example if attribute name is “First Name” then make it “First_Name” and populate the list. Space is not supported while you try to parse and replace the token at run time with real value. Make a note that the Available Data and Selected Data are used in the substitution tokens definition only, they do not define the final data that will be sent in the notification. OIM will invoke the resolver class to get the data and make the substitutions. Under the Locale Information section, enter values in the following fields: To specify a form of encoding, select either UTF-8 or ASCII. In the Message Subject field, enter a subject for the notification. From the Type options, select the data type in which you want to send the message. You can choose between HTML and Text/Plain. In the Short Message field, enter a gist of the message in very few words. In the Long Message field, enter the message that will be sent as the notification with Available data token which need to be replaced by resolver at runtime. After you have entered the required values in all the fields, click Save. A message is displayed confirming the creation of the notification template. Click OK 4. Triggering the event A notification event can be triggered from different places in OIM. The logic behind the triggering must be coded and plugged into OIM.
