  Recently upgraded my FreeBSD install to FreeBSD 9.1-stable from the 9-stable branch. I have two SATA hard drives (/dev/ada0, /dev/ada1) in a geom mirror, with nothing between : [/dev/ada0, /dev/ada1] --> /dev/mirror/gm0, which I then partition for root etc. After upgrading from 9.0-stable to 9.1-stable, I found these messages on the console: GEOM_MIRROR: cancelling unmapped because of ada0 GEOM_MIRROR: cancelling unmapped because of ada1 GEOM_MIRROR: Device mirror/gm0 launched (2/2). Everything still seems to work, the mirror seems healthy and the machine works just fine, peformance is fine.

  Hi, I need to move all my sites on a server with IIS 6 to another one, that has same OS (Windows Server 20003) and same IIS version. I'm trying to understand which is the best way to do it. Searching on Google I've found that there are at least 2 methods, one uses IIS Migration Tool, and another Web Deployment Tool. I don't know which method is best, it also seems that both methods can export one site at once, and I have about 100 sites hosted. What would you do?

• Using Linux LVM, can I change the number of stripes and "rebalance" the logical volume?

  I created a RAID10 by adding two RAID1 md devices as physical volumes to a volume group. Unfortunately it looks like I forgot to specify the number of stripes when I created the logical volumes (it was late): PV VG Fmt Attr PSize PFree /dev/md312 volume lvm2 a- 927.01G 291.01G /dev/md334 volume lvm2 a- 927.01G 927.01G I know that I can move all the data of a logical volume from one physical volume to another with pvmove. It also looks like lvextend supports an -i switch to change the number of stripes. Is there any way to combine these two, ie. change the number of stripes and "rebalance" the data over the stripes based on the allocation policy? According to this mail by Ross Walker from March 2010 it isn't possible but maybe this has changed since then.

• Could not continue scan with NOLOCK due to data movement during installation

  I am running Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition R2 x64 and I installed SQL Server 2008 Developer Edition. All of the preliminary checks run fine (Apart from a warning about Windows Firewall and opening ports which is unrelated to this and shouldn't be an issue - I can open those ports). Half way through the actual installation, I get a popup with this error: Could not continue scan with NOLOCK due to data movement. The installation still runs to completion when I press ok. However, at the end, it states that the following services "failed": database engine services sql server replication full-text search reporting services How do I know if this actually means that anything from my installation (which is on a clean Windows Server setup - nothing else on there, no previous SQL Servers, no upgrades, etc) is missing? I know from my programming experience that locks are for concurrency control and the Microsoft help on this issue points to changing my query's lock/transactions in a certain way to fix the issue. But I am not touching any queries? Also, now that I have installed the app, when I login, I keep getting this message: TITLE: Connect to Server ------------------------------ Cannot connect to MSSQLSERVER. ------------------------------ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. We are trying to add a Standard 2008 R2 64 bit domain controller to the forest but for some reason during DCPROMO, we receive the following error: "to install a domain controller into this active directory forest,you must first prepare the forest using "adprep/forestprep" etc We went ahead an ran adprep /forestprep on our established domain controller and allowed time to replicate. When attempting to execute dcpromo again, we receive the same error. What gives?

• Pecl complies .so extensions for OSX built-in PHP and not MAMP

  I've installed the sphinx binaries and libraries and am now trying to install the PECL sphinx module. My system is running OS X 10.6 with MAMP 1.8.2 installed. I try to install sphinx using the following command: sudo pecl install sphinx The PECL command outputs the following: running: phpize Configuring for: PHP Api Version: 20090626 Zend Module Api No: 20090626 Zend Extension Api No: 220090626 The versions above don't match the versions listed when doing a phpinfo(). It seems that PECL is trying to complie against the built-in version of PHP. If I ignore the errors and continue the it will successfully compile and place the sphinx.so file in: /usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20090626/sphinx.so when in fact it should be: /Applications/MAMP/bin/php5/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20060613/ I've tried copying the sphinx.so file to the MAMP extensions dir but when I restart apache PHP displays the following warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/Applications/MAMP/bin/php5/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20060613/sphinx.so I think this is because MAMP is 32bit and the built-in PHP is 64bit so PECL complies for 64bit. I might be completely wrong but I did read this when I goggled on the topic. Does anyone know how to get PECL to map to the MAMP version of PHP instead of the built-in version?

• Why does ping flooding a domain name freezes and not a direct ip address

  I am wondering why, when ping flooding a domain, the ping flood freezes after a couple of seconds then continues and this freeze, unfreeze continues until i stop the ping flood. When i do the same using the ip it does not freeze. NEVER. i did for example sudo ping -f IP (It does not freeze) then i did sudo ping -f DomainName (It freezes after a couple of seconds) Why does ping flooding an IP not freezes and ping flooding the same place using the domain name does freeze. EDIT - What i mean about freezing is that the behavior of the ping flood should send a ping and create a dot (.) for each ping but also remove each dot (.) after receiving the echo request. Looks something like this: .......... <-- This means you just send 10 ping requests. If the requests are answer, for each request answer a dot is removed. The freeze happens when this is sending or receiving. The dots will stay there frozen, like is not receiving or sending any packets. For the PING FLOOD. I do not mean in the evil way of flooding a place, i mean in the testing way. To test the performance/speed of the request send and answered of the ping requests. If you send a ping flood to google's IP for about 10 seconds you would have send about 1000 packets.but if you do it to google's domain name (google.com) it will create the freeze am talking about. IMPORTANT - Do not confuse with flooding a site with ping of death attacks.

• Windows update error: Code 80072F8F (possibly datetime-not-correct, but it is)

  I have a Windows 2008 Server 64bit installation running as a virtual instance with a hosting provider. Windows Update has worked fine until IE8 (along with some other updates) managed to get installed (don't get me started). Now all of a sudden Windows Update fails to run and complains with error 80072F8F. UPDATE: I've since removed IE8 and am still having issues (tissues are on order) This apparently means that the time/timezone of the server is incorrect - which is not the case. I've synced the time with a time server and rebooted a number of times. I've followed the instructions here (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929458) to no avail. Thanks! Andrew

• Why does Mac OS X Software Update not work when machine uses Active Directory?

  My company's IT department is mostly a Windows run operation and in order to become more secure, they are altering the way that the Macintosh computers login to our internal network so that they use Active Directory like their Windows counterparts. I have been given Administrative permission on my Mac and I am able to do most of what I used to be able to do in terms of authentication of software installations. However, there is a problem: the "Software Update" feature doesn't work. What happens is that when I try to get the Mac to perform its Software Updates from the Apple menu, the normal window appears listing what has to be updated; I am able to select what to update and click the "Update" button, but then nothing happens. It doesn't ask for authentication like it used to, the computer doesn't perform any download or installation (it does sometimes ask me to agree to license agreements for iTunes). I can download the updates individually and install them without any issues, but the auto-update fails. I'd rather use the Software Update menu item like I used to: it is much more convenient. Any suggestions on how I can fix this? EDIT Nov 19th, 2009, 10:09 EST: I have posted this question to the Apple Mac OS X Snow Leopard support forum. EDIT Nov 19th, 2009, 12:39 EST:Yes, the Terminal command "sudo softwareupdate --install --all" does work flawlessly. I want to avoid that as my co-workers are generally not comfortable on the Mac. I also tried Chealion's suggestion to delete "~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist" and "/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist", Software Update still fails. However, I did get diagnostic messages in the Console (below). I've deleted the MS Office Package Receipts and examined the suhelperd (Software Update Helper Daemon?); it appears that suhelperd is crashing and that explains why it doesn't work. • High Tq values for HAProxy

  I just took over administration of a new environment. A known issue is that the environment is known for high response times (20+ seconds), so I figured I'd turn on haproxy logging and see what is going on. I figured I'd see slow load times in the app servers, but I'm actually seeing high Tq values in HAProxy. The HAProxy is on EC2 and is NOT behind ELB. Not all the Tq's are high (1+ seconds), but a good percentage of them are (approx 35%). Normally when I see this behavior, I'd expect there to be network issues, but this is an incredibly high percentage of visitors to be having an issue like this, so I'm wondering if anybody has seen this or have any hints on diagnosing if the issue could possibly be on this box?

• Ierrs on Network Interface - Pfsense/Freebsd

  Hello all, We're using PfSense as an internal router/firewall (no connection to WAN). Using the Web-GUI, under Status --- Interfaces, there's one particular interface where I have some errors: In/out errors 3513/0 I then SSHed to the firewall to validate the info provided by the WebGUI and here's the output: # netstat -ni -I bce2 Name Mtu Network Address Ipkts Ierrs Opkt Oerrs Coll bce2 1500 <Link#3> 00:23:7d:cd:a2:a2 1404522323 3513 749797131 0 0 bce2 1500 10.42.1.0/24 10.42.1.24 6 - 6 - - As you can see, both present the same info (errors on incoming packets). I switched cables, changed network card, changed port on switch and I still see the errors. My 2 questions really are: 1) Is there any way I could get more info on the nature of these errors? or is this all I can get? 2) Should I be worried about this? As you can see, the errors are a VERY LOW percentage of all the total incoming packets. In other words, is this normal on a high-traffic gigabit interface? Thanks! JFA

• TortoiseSVN overlay icons do not appear when installed by a different user account?

  I've installed TortoiseSVN on my work Windows XP machine as the administrator. When I login in as a standard user my working copies do not display the overlay icons in Windows Explorer. I found this on TortoiseSVN's support pages: Did you install TortoiseSVN as a different user under WinNT/Win2K/WinXP than you are using now? Go to the settings of TSVN and activate the icon overlays for at least the fixed drives. The installer does this automatically for the current user (can't do it for other users...) but since you are using TSVN as a different user than you installed it you need to set this manually. I've checked the settings for overlay icons for the current user and the options Local and Network drives are checked. I've tried even toggling them off, applying, then on again and applying, then restarting but they still don't appear. I'm unable to install TortoiseSVN on the current user hence why I logged into the admin account. Any ideas?

• Bind ADFS 2.0 service to a specific IP address

  I have one server with ADFS-2.0 and a few websites on it. One of the websites is Dynamics CRM which listens on a specific IP address on port 443. Dynamics CRM provides a metadata file for configuration purposes which could be used to configure a relaying party trust with ADFS. It is accessible with the URL https://auth.contoso.com/FederationMetadata/2007-06/federationmetadata.xml The problem is that ADFS-2.0 installs a service which registers following urlacl https://+:443/FederationMetadata/2007-06/ This means the result of accessing the URL https://auth.contoso.com/FederationMetadata/2007-06/federationmetadata.xml is the metadata file of ADFS, not the one of Dynamics CRM. I've tried to delete the default urlacl and added (one of them at a time) https://192.168.1.2:443/FederationMetadata/2007-06/ https://adfs.mydomain.com:443/FederationMetadata/2007-06/ but neither of them worked. Instead the ADFS-service failed to startup complete. Is there any way to bind this service to a IP address? At the moment I see only two alternatives Bind the service to a non standard port. This leads to problems because this means that also the ADFS website has to use a non-standard HTTPS-port. Install ADFS-2.0 on a different server (this is my favorite alternative - however it is not possible in every situation...)

• Problem running Apache-Tomcat on every web browser installed in Windows 7

  Hello everyone, I'm working on a web application in JSP and my web container is Apache Tomcat 7.0.2 (Its portable cross-platform version). As I've made extensive use of HTML5-CSS3 and my target browser is Google Chrome, I'm able to run the the Apache server only in Opera web browser, neither of the remaining installed browser run it. Here's the steps I have followed to start the server in my Windows 7 machine. -Placing the 'apache-tomcat-7.0.2' directory on my root partition (i.e. C: Drive) -Execute 'startup.bat' from 'bin' directory in it. (startup.sh if on Linux/Unix). -Then, a Console window opens that shows log during the setup of server (separately from Command Prompt), and I need to keep that console running in order to keep the Apache server running, so I minimize it. -Then, I open 'http://localhost:8080/' in various web browsers, and I could see Apache Server Homepage with same address only in Opera Web Browser (11.01), neither of other browsers installed can open it (Chrome 9, Firefox 4 Beta 10 or IE8). -I also tried other port numbers, but none of them worked. What can I do to make Apache run in every browser installed in my computer? I have my computer dual boot with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.10, and in Ubuntu, every web browser installed can run Apache once I start it, but same is not working in Windows.

They are: ldap1.mydomain.com ldap2.mydomain.com I also have a load balancer cluster with a dns name of it's own: ldap.mydomain.com The SSL certificate has a CN of ldap.mydomain.com, with SANs of ldap1.mydomain.com and ldap2.mydomain.com. Everything works... Except mirror mode replication. • Unable to configure DD-WRT SNMP monitoring with Zabbix

  Installed Zabbix on Ubuntu but not sure what setting I missed. Base on my concept, I would like to using SNMP to monitoring DD-WRT router which it using SNMP service. I did enable to SNMP service at DD-WRT router page. And also created a host at Zabbix with included DD-WRT template. After I done it I still unable to get any connection/information at Zabbix which mean the router doesn't communicate with Zabbix. • NIC firmware version on my DL380 G5

  Hi all, I am trying to figure out what is my current NIC firmware version. If I run the latest firmware upgrade from HP, I get the following: It doesn't tell me the current version. If I try to check it from Device Manager, I get this: That's the driver version, not the hardware firmware version. If I reboot the computer, I don't see the NIC firmware during the POST.. How would I go about finding the current firmware version... Thanks a lot! Toast
