[Zend Framework] Forms and success output

Well, It's a beginer's question but I really don't know what is the best way. I have a basic CRUD (Create, Retrieve, Update and Delete) in my project and I'd like to output some message if succeded or not in a div inside the same page. So, basically, I have a form which action is setted to the same page and I have a div #statusDiv below this same form which I'd like to output something like Register included with success. What is the best way for doing this? Set a flag in the controller $this->view->flagStatus = 'message' then call it in the view? Just to make it more clear. Zend Framework How can I print a logged in user name from a Zend_Session_Namespace

Hi all I have created the following login controller for my site and it works fine in relation to logging users in a logging them out. The thing I want to do is echo the logged in users name into the FlashMessenger for the success page how ever as my code stands I only get the following message when redirected to the success page, "you have been successfully logged in as Array". Can I also ask the following does the line $session-user =$adaptergetResultArray('Password'); create an array of user information less the password value from the database. Make a router like zend

Zend Framework: Navigation XML and duplicate page elements

Hi In XML I'd normal expect the following to be perfectly valid and navigable in a meaningful way using something like PHP's DomDocument: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <configdata> <page> <name>Home</name> </page> <page> <name>Log in</name> </page> </configdata> This is not the case when using Zend_Navigation. Each <page> element needs to have a unique name, so you would need to do: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <configdata> <page_home> <name>Home</name> </page_home> <page_log_in> <name>Log in</name> </page_log_in> </configdata> This works, but is very annoying. I'd much rather have multiple page elements which can have the same name and can be easily copy and pasted when creating many pages for navigation. Why does each one need a unique name? Is there a way of not having to have a unique name?

Getting an Ajax response from Zend Framework Controller

I'm doing an Ajax request on one of my views to a Controller but I am unable to send back a response to the Ajax method. In the snippet below, I am trying to send the word 'hellopanda' back but in the alert message, I'll get data as an object. How to produce meta tag like this with headMeta() helper? <meta charset="utf-8">

Using default parameters for 404 error (PHP with mvc design)?

I have a custom made Framework (written in PHP). It all works very good, but i have some doubts about a certain thing. Right now when a user call this url for example: http://host.com/user/edit/12 Which would resolve to: user = userController edit = editAction() in userController 12 = treated as a param But suppose the controller 'userController' doesn't exist. Then i could throw a 404. But on the other hand, the url could also be used as params for the indexController (which is the default controller). So in that case: controller = indexController user = could be an action in indexController, otherwise treated as a param edit = treated as a param 12 = treated as a param That is actually how it works right now in my framework. So basically, i never throw a 404. I could ofcourse say that only params can be given if the controller name is explicitly named in the URL. So if i want the above url: http://host.com/user/edit/12 To be invoked by the indexController, in the indexAction. Then i specifically have to tell what controller and action it uses in the URL. So the URL should become: http://host.com/index/index/user/edit/12 index = indexController index (2nd one) = the action method user = treated as a param edit = treated as a param 12 = treated as a param That way, when a controller doesn't exist, i don't reroute everything as a param to the index controller and simply throw a 404 error. Now my question is, which one is more preffered? Should i allow both options to be configurable in a config file? Or should i always use one of them. Simply because that's the only and best way to do it?

IIS7 MVC deploy - 404 not found on actions that accept "id" parameter.

Hello. Once deployed parts of my web-application stop working. Index-es on each controller do work, and one form posting via Ajax, Login works too. Other then that yields 404. I understand that nothing particular should be done in integrated mode. I don't know how to proceed with troubleshooting. Some info: App is using default app pool set to integrated mode. WebApp is done in net framework 3.5. I use default routing model. Along web.config in root there is web.config in /View folder referencing HttpNotFoundHandler. OS is Windows Server 2008. Admins issued aspnet_regiis.exe -i IIS 7 Any help is appreciated. Thx. EDIT: I determined that only actions that accept ID parameter don't work. On the contrary, when I add dummy id method in Home controller of default MVC app it works. "Bad binary signature" in ASP.NET MVC application

We are getting the error above on some pages of an ASP.NET MVC application when it is deployed to a 64 bit Windows 2008 server box. It works fine on our development machines, though these are 32 bit XP. Just wondered if anyone had encountered this before, and has any suggestions? Details as follows: Bad binary signature. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131192) Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException: Bad binary signature. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131192) All projects are set to compile for Any CPU, and are compiled in Release mode. The ASP.NET site is precompiled, and the precompiled build is on a 64 bit Windows 2008 TeamCity build agent. Thanks in advance. EDIT We're still plagued by this. I have looked at all the binaries in the website's bin directory using corflags.exe. None has the 32BIT flag set, and all have a CorFlags value of 9 except for Antlr3.Runtime.dll which has a value of 1. The problem only affects certain pages, and it seems to be those which use FluentValidation (including FluentValidation.Mvc and FluentValidation.xValIntegration assemblies). None of these shows anything out of the ordinary when inspected with corflags.exe, and there are no odd looking dependencies revealed by ildasm. When built locally (32 bit Windows XP) the site deploys and runs fine. When built on the build agents (64 bit Windows 2008 Server) the site displays these errors. The site runs in Integrated Pipeline mode, and is not set to 32 bit. The stack trace is: [COMException (0x80131192): Bad binary signature. We (me and my team) have a ASP.NET MVC application and we are integrating a page or two that are Web Forms. We are trying to reuse the Master Page from our MVC part of the app in the WebForms part. We have found a way of rendering an MVC partial view in web forms, which works great, until we try and do a postback, which is the reason for using a WebForm. The Error: Validation of viewstate MAC failed. If this application is hosted by a Web Farm or cluster, ensure that configuration specifies the same validationKey and validation algorithm. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster. A Work-around: So far the work-around is to move the header content to a PartialView, then use an AJAX call to call a page with just the Partial View from the WebForms, and then using the PartialView directly on the MVC Views. Also, we are still able to share non-tech-specific parts of the Master Page, i.e. anything that is not MVC specific. Still yet, this is not an ideal solution, a server-side solution is still desired. Also, this solutino has issues when working with controls that have more sophisticated controls, using JavaScript, particularly dynamically generated script as used by 3rd party controls.

ASP.NET MVC hosting problem, routing, handlers and modules

Hi, This is one of them again, hosting with fasthosts. I recently purchased a windows developer package from them. When I tried to deploy my ASP.NET 3.5 MVC project, which was working fine with the same host on a reseller account, it is not working. The reason to move from reseller to a normal Windows Developer package is, the MS-SQL server database is too expensive in a reseller account, strange! I contact them, and they are saying they upgraded the control panel. The technical support said, I need to disable the Modules and Handlers from the web.config file. Also I need to deploy them as .dll files. I am not sure how to do that. The website is partially working now. I think the problem is now with the routing. I have not deployed any .dlls apart from the System.Web.Mvc.dll, System.Web.Routing.dll and System.Web.Abstractions.dll. I have not got a clue on how to deploy the Modules and Handlers. The code that I commented on the web.config file is as follows.  Anybody got any ideas please. Thank you for your time.

ASP.NET MVC : Good Replacement for User Control?

I found user controls to be incredibly useful when working with ASP.NET webforms. By encapsulating the code required for displaying a control with the markup, creation of reusable components was very straightforward and very, very useful. While MVC provides convenient separation of concerns, this seems to break encapsulation (ie, you can add a control without adding or using its supporting code, leading to runtime errors). Having to modify a controller every time I add a control to a view seems to me to integrate concerns, not separate them. I'd rather break the purist MVC ideology than give up the benefits of reusable, packaged controls. I need to be able to include components similar to webforms user controls throughout a site, but not for the entire site, and not at a level that belongs in a master page. These components should have their own code not just markup (to interact with the business layer), and it would be great if the page controller didn't need to know about the control. Since MVC user controls don't have codebehind, I can't see a good way to do this. This is tested with ASP.NET MVC 2, VS 2010 and .NET 4.0. Your custom tag references the ascx partial view, which inherits from the TestControl class. The control then overrides the Render() method, which is called to render the view, giving you complete control over the process from tag to output. IIS 7.5 truncating POST body containing JSON data with ASP.NET MVC 3

I'm facing a problem which I hope is a configuration thing with IIS but is right now giving a lot of trouble. Basically I have a controller that accepts a JSON and does some processing. While it generally works fine, but every now and then when the system has some load I get an error. After some painful debugging, we figured the incoming JSON gets truncated which causes the deserialzer to fail. To narrow down the problem - we wrote a simple controller that accepts a JSON and tries to deserialize it. In case it fails it just logs it. This works fine but when I hit it using a load testing tool (JMeter) it throws the same error (truncation) for a few requests. The # of failures increased when I increase parallel connections. It starts showing with 150 concurrent requests. We are running IIS 7 on windows 2008 server with ASP.Net MVC 3 with more or less default configuration of IIS. Deploying and publishing my first asp.net mvc 3 web application

I want to deploy and publish my first asp.net mvc 3 web application at my client side (the client is a small office with 2-4 employees that need to access the application) , currently i finished developing my web application using the free Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2010 express and the free SQL Server 2008 R2 Express database . So my concerns are :- 1. The free sql express database that i am currently using have a limitation of 10 GB i think So i want to buy SQL server for small business to remove the database limitations. So my questions that i need help with them are:- **1. If i use the sql server for small business then will my web application have other limitations on production i am unaware of ? 2. Will be using SQL server for small business my right choice? baring in my that the system will be used by 2-4 clients only? 3. How much does “approximate ” the sql server database will cost in US dollars? 4. PHP framework question

I'm currently working on a browser-based MMO and have chosen the LAMP stack because of the extremely low cost to start with in production (versus Windows + IIS + ASP.NET/C# + SQL Server, even though I have MSDN Universal). However I will need a PHP framework for this as it's no easy task. I am not restricted by anything other than the ability to run on Linux, as I will use a dedicated cloud hosting solution (and a VMWare image for development) and can configure it as needed. In no specific order: It has to be easily scalable; this is crucial. If the game becomes a steady success it will eventually outgrow the server beyond what the host provides and would have to be moved to several load-balanced servers. It is crucial that this can be done with minimum effort. I do know this might require following strict conventions, so if you know of any for your suggested framework please explain what would be needed. It has to provide modules for all the core tasks: authentication, ACL, database access, MVC, and so on. One or two missing modules are fine, as long as they can easily be written and integrated. It should support internationalization. I think there is no excuse for any web framework not to provide means of translating the application and switching between languages without a lot of effort from the programmer. Must have very good community support and preferably commercial support as well. Yes, I do know QCodo/QCubed is so nice, but it is not mature enough for this task. Smooth AJAX support is required. Whether the framework comes with AJAX-capable widgets or has an easy way of adding AJAX is not relevant, as long as AJAX is easily doable. I plan to use jQuery + Dojo or one of them alone - not exactly sure. Auto-magically doing stuff when it improves readability and relieves a lot of effort would be especially nice if it is generally reliable and does not interfere with other requirements. This seems to be the case of CakePHP. I have read a lot of comparisons and I know it's a really hot debate. The general answer is "try and see for yourself what suits you". However, I can't say it is easy for this task and I'm calling for your experience with building applications with similar requirements. So far I'm tied up between Zend and CakePHP by the general criteria, however, all well-known frameworks offer the same functionality in some way or another with different approaches each with it's own advantages and disadvantages. Edits: I am kinda new to MVC, however, I am willing to learn it and I don't care if a framework is easier for those new to MVC. I have lots of time to learn MVC and any other architectures (or whatever they're called) you recommend. I will use Zend as a utility "framework", even though it's just a collection of libraries (some good ones though, as I have been told). Current PHP contenders are: CakePHP, Kohana, Zend alone.

So for example, my Site.Master has something like this: .... <head> <%=html.renderScripts() %> </head> ... //core scripts for main page <%html.AddScript("/scripts/jquery.js") %> <%html.AddScript("/scripts/myLib.js") %> .... Then in the child aspx page, I may also want to include other scripts. ... //the page specific script I want to use <% html.AddScript("/scripts/register.aspx.js") %> ... So when the full page gets rendered the javascript files are all collected and rendered in the head by sitemaster placeholder function RenderScripts. This works fine. Now with MVC 3 and razor view engine, they layout pages behave differently, because now my page level javascripts are not rendered/included. Now all I see the LayoutMaster contents. How do I get the solution wo workwith MVC 3 and the razor view engine. (The helper has already been re-written to return a HTMLString ;-)) For reference: my MasterLayout looks like this: ... ... <head> @{ Html.AddJavaScript("/Scripts/jQuery.js"); Html.AddJavaScript("/Scripts/myLib.js"); } //Render scripts @html.RenderScripts() </head> .... and the child page looks like this: @{ Layout = "~/Views/Shared/MasterLayout.cshtml"; ViewBag.Title = "Child Page"; Html.AddJavaScript("/Scripts/register.aspx.js"); } .... <div>some html </div> Thanks for your help. Edit = Just to explain, if this question is not clear enough. When producing a "page" I collect all the javascript files the designers want to use, by using the html.addJavascript("filename.js") and store these in a dictionary - (1) stops people adding duplicate js files - then finally when the page is ready to render, I write out all the javascript files neatly in the header. (2) - this helper helps keep JS in one place, and prevents designers from adding javascript files all over the place. This used to work fine with Master/SiteMaster Pages in mvc 2. but how can I achieve this with razor?

ASP.NET MVC in a subfolder (only) on godaddy

Okay, I have read many of the routing posts concerning putting asp.net mvc on godaddy. However, I have not come to a solution to my current problem. I am trying to publish an ASP.NET MVC application to a subfolder on godaddy. I have upgraded the account to use IIS 7 and I have included the MVC dlls in \bin\ deployment method. However, I suspect that my route is not correct. Currently, my routes are set up with the standard out of the box route: public static void RegisterRoutes(RouteCollection routes) { routes.IgnoreRoute("{resource}.axd/{*pathInfo}"); routes.MapRoute( "Default", // Route name "{controller}/{action}/{id}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = "" } // Parameter defaults ); } I have a subdomain set up so that it looks like office.domain.com. The subdomain is pointing at a folder "/office/" which is right off the root folder. (There is not an MVC application installed in the root folder). All of my application has been placed in this 'office' folder. When I hover over the links however, the 'office' portion shows up in the link as well. e.g. Hovering over a link to the customer controller, index action yields "office.domain.com/office/Customer" as the target. This link then gets a 404 when I attempt to go to it. What should my route be to fix this? Is there something I have neglected in setting up the subdomain in godaddy? Is this something I just can't do in godaddy's domain management "tool". Do I need to set up a virtual directory for this instead of just a directory? Update: I changed the IIS settings in godaddy to use integrated pipeline mode, per this discussion and I am no longer getting 404 errors. The application worked just fine as suggested it would.
