    - by Johan
    When I try to parse a XML-file, it gives sometimes a null element by the title. I think it has to do with HTML-tags &#039; How can I solve this problem? I have the follow XML-file: <item> <title>&#039; Nieuwe DVD &#039;</title> <description>tekst, tekst tekst</description> <link>dvd.html</link> <category>nieuws</category> <pubDate>Sat, 1 Jan 2011 9:24:00 +0000</pubDate> </item> And the follow code to parse the xml-file: //DocumentBuilderFactory, DocumentBuilder are used for //xml parsing DocumentBuilderFactory dbf = DocumentBuilderFactory .newInstance(); DocumentBuilder db = dbf.newDocumentBuilder(); //using db (Document Builder) parse xml data and assign //it to Element Document document = db.parse(is); Element element = document.getDocumentElement(); //take rss nodes to NodeList element.normalize(); NodeList nodeList = element.getElementsByTagName("item"); if (nodeList.getLength() > 0) { for (int i = 0; i < nodeList.getLength(); i++) { //take each entry (corresponds to <item></item> tags in //xml data Element entry = (Element) nodeList.item(i); entry.normalize(); Element _titleE = (Element) entry.getElementsByTagName( "title").item(0); Element _categoryE = (Element) entry .getElementsByTagName("category").item(0); Element _pubDateE = (Element) entry .getElementsByTagName("pubDate").item(0); Element _linkE = (Element) entry.getElementsByTagName( "link").item(0); String _title = _titleE.getFirstChild().getNodeValue(); String _category = _categoryE.getFirstChild().getNodeValue(); Date _pubDate = new Date(_pubDateE.getFirstChild().getNodeValue()); String _link = _linkE.getFirstChild().getNodeValue(); //create RssItemObject and add it to the ArrayList RssItem rssItem = new RssItem(_title, _category, _pubDate, _link); rssItems.add(rssItem); conn.disconnect(); }

  • mysql innodb:innodb_flush_method

    - by Daniel
    in the following link http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/innodb-parameters.html#sysvar_innodb_flush_method it says:Different values of this variable can have a marked effect on InnoDB performance. For example, on some systems where InnoDB data and log files are located on a SAN, it has been found that setting innodb_flush_method to O_DIRECT can degrade performance of simple SELECT statements by a factor of three. Why O_DIRECT could slow down the select statement?

  • What is the most annoying ignorance you've had in programming?

    - by someone
    What was an annoying programming situation you had that a little bit of knowledge could've solved? That after you struggled with something tedious/annoying/frustrating, you learned one small thing and said "oh, I could've done that?!"? My example - I once suffered through an entire tedious semester of HTML in Notepad... only to discover Notepad++ (and DreamWeaver, IDEs, etc.) a couple of days after submitting the final project.

  • Optimal setup for Doxygen in a large multi-application COM project

    - by John
    A system has up to 100 VC++ projects, each spitting out a DLL or EXE. In addition there are many COM components with IDL and generated .h/.c files. What's 'the right way' or at least a good way to organise this with Doxygen? One overall doxy project or one per project/solution? And what's the right way to handle COM, which has generated code and a lot of 'fluff' that will bloat generated HTML files.

  • User oriented regex library for java

    - by Maxim Veksler
    Hello, I'm looking for a library that could perform "easy" pattern matching, a kind of pattern that can be exposed via GUI to users. It should define a simple matching syntax like * matches any char and alike. In other words, I want to do glob (globbing) like sun's implemented logic http://openjdk.java.net/projects/nio/javadoc/java/nio/file/PathMatcher.html but without relation to the file system. Ideas?

  • Is it possible to make JQuery keydown respond faster?

    - by Drew Paul
    I am writing a simple page with JQuery and HTML5 canvas tags where I move a shape on the canvas by pressing 'w' for up, 's' for down, 'a' for left, and 'd' for right. I have it all working, but I would like the shape to start moving at a constant speed upon striking a key. Right now there is some kind of hold period and then the movement starts. How can I get the movement to occur immediately? Here the important part of my code: Your browser does not support the HTML5 canvas tag. start navigating coords should pop up here key should pop up here var c=document.getElementById("myCanvas"); var ctx=c.getContext("2d"); //keypress movements var xtriggered = 0; var keys = {}; var north = -10; var east = 10; var flipednorth = 0; $(document).ready(function(e){ $("input").keydown(function(){ keys[event.which] = true; if (event.which == 13) { event.preventDefault(); } //press w for north if (event.which == 87) { north++; flipednorth--; } //press s for south if (event.which == 83) { north--; flipednorth++; } //press d for east if (event.which == 68) { east++; } //press a for west if (event.which == 65) { east--; } var msg = 'x: ' + flipednorth*5 + ' y: ' + east*5; ctx.beginPath(); ctx.arc(east*6,flipednorth*6,40,0,2*Math.PI); ctx.stroke(); $('#soul2').html(msg); $('#soul3').html(event.which ); $("input").css("background-color","#FFFFCC"); }); $("input").keyup(function(){ delete keys[event.which]; $("input").css("background-color","#D6D6FF"); }); }); </script> please let me know if I shouldn't be posting code this lengthy.

  • PHP Curl Not formatting quotes properly; producing weird character set for single/double quotes

    - by user595052
    I wrote a html scraper to scrape my various social identites, so I can make a real time 'biography' website. However after using php curl_exec, I find that texts that I have quoted, end up being formatted in a weird character set. ex: "I love dogs" gets formatted to ’I love dogs ’ "I hate cheese" gets formatted to “I hate cheese How do I either scrub these characters, or set curl not to format quotes like this. Also, I have turned off magic_quotes.

  • libiconv - iconv_open() default behavior?

    - by DooriBar
    According to the documentation of iconv_open() over: http://www.gnu.org/software/libiconv/documentation/libiconv/iconv_open.3.html "//TRANSLIT" means that when a character cannot be represented in the target character set, it can be approximated through one or several characters. and: "//IGNORE" means that characters that cannot be represented in the target character set will be silently discarded. But what is the default behavior, when neither are specified? Thanks, Doori Bar

  • Force Word Normal View

    - by Jared
    I am creating an HTML document which we are then pushing out to MS Word using a "application/msword" content type. This works so far except that the files open in Word with Web View. Once Normal View is selected all works fine. Is there any way to force Word to open with Normal View instead of Web View?
