• Reflection for a Field going wrong

  Hi, I have been trying to use reflection for a specifiec Field in the android.os.build class, the MANUFACTURER field... Any idea where things are going wrong or otherwise on how to implement Refelction for a single Field correctly ?

Is it a normal behavior, or I made a mistake somewhere?

  So I am really new to Java and I need a circle to move around JFrame when it's clicked, but the circle has to get random cordinates. So far this code generates a new circle every time it's clicked, but all the other circles stay there aswell, but I only need one circle to move around the frame. • How do I get flashvars in Firefox using object embed tag only to work?

  I am trying to generate an <object> tag only embed code and cannot get Firefox to pass Flash along the FlashVars values. This seems to work everyplace else that I've tried it but fails in Firefox. Here is a sample of the embed that I'm using: <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=10,0,0,0" width="550" height="400" id="Main" align="middle"> <param name="movie" value="Main.swf" /> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /> <param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff" /> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <param name="menu" value="false" /> <param name="FlashVars" value="foo=1" /> </object> Please note that the Flash experience does show up in Firefox but when I do traces and actually run the application this fails to read the values. This has had me scratching my head for a day and I'm pretty stumped. If anyone has any guidance on this it would relly be appreciated.

• I can't login to my Django app when debug is set to False

  I have a very strange problem, and I don't know how to fix or debug it. Short Story: I get locked out of my Django app when Debug is set to False. Long story: Case 1 (the first time it happened): 1. I enter my login info, but It just redirects to the login page. 2. I restart the server, try to login, and it works fine, I get in. 3. a few hours later I come back, log out, try to log back in and I can't. It just redirects to the login page. Case 2 (I figure out how to provoke the login failure): 1. I restart the server and am able to login to the site. 2. I log in and log out several times, everything is fine. 3. I go to a non-existing page and get a server error. 4. I log out and try to log back in, and I can't, just get redirected back to the login page. Case 3 (I can't provoke the login failure with Debug set to True): 1. I restart the server and am able to login to the site. 2. I log in and log out several times, everything is fine. 3. I go to a non-existing page and get a traceback. 4. I log out and log back in, everything works. 5. I wait and play around with it and can't get the login to fail while in Debug mode. Please help!

I need to show different panels depending on properties of the selected row(object). So i've created 2 controls and included them into this main control. Then i want UI to reflect the changes, so I call NotifyPropertyChanged("CurrentObject"); SimpleProperty1 remains the same, but SimpleProperty2 resets to false I have no idea why this happens, can anyone help me please?   I'm trying to set up some unit tests for an existing compact framework class library. However, I've fallen at the first hurdle, where it appears that the test framework is unable to load the types involved (even though they're both in the class library being tested) Test method MyLibrary.Tests.MyGenericClassTest.MyMethodTest threw exception: System.MissingMethodException: Could not load type 'MyLibrary.MyType' from assembly 'MyLibrary, Version=1.0.3778.36113, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null'.. My code is loosely: public class MyGenericClass<T> : List<T> where T : MyType, new() { public bool MyMethod(T foo) { throw new NotImplementedException(); } } With test methods: public void MyMethodTestHelper<T>() where T : MyType, new() { MyGenericClass<T> target = new MyGenericClass<T>(); foo = new T(); expected = true; actual = target.MyMethod(foo); Assert.AreEqual(expected, actual); } [TestMethod()] public void MyMethodTest() { MyMethodTestHelper<MyType>(); } I'm a bit stumped though, as I can't even get it to break in the debugger to get to the inner exception, so what else do I check? EDIT this does seem to be something specific to the Compact Framework - recompiling the class libraries and the unit tests for the full framework, gives the expected output (i.e. the debugger stops when I'm going to throw a NotImplementedException).

• Using nHibernate to map two different data models to one entity model

  I have two different data models that map to the same Car entity. I needed to create a second entity called ParkedCar, which is identical to Car (and therefore inherits from it) in order to stop nhibernate complaining that two mappings exists for the same entity. public class Car { protected Car() { IsParked = false; } public virtual int Id { get; set; } public bool IsParked { get; internal set; } } public class ParkedCar : Car { public ParkedCar() { IsParked = true; } //no additional properties to car, merely exists to support mapping and signify the car is parked } The only issue is that when I come to retrieve a Car from the database using the Criteria API like so: SessionProvider.OpenSession.Session.CreateCriteria<Car>() .Add(Restrictions.Eq("Id", 123)) .List<Car>(); The query brings back Car Entities that are from the ParkedCar data model. Its as if nhibernate defaults to the specialised entity. It seems that way, but I can't be sure. I've even checked the Lucene documentation (class ScoreDocs) to no avail. You'll see I'm calculating the log of the "newRelevance" value, which is based on hits[i].score. I need hits[i].score to be between 0 and 1, because if it is below zero, I'll get an error; above 1 and the sign will change from negative to positive. • How do I alias the scala setter method 'myvar_$(myval)' to something more pleasing when in java?

  I've been converting some code from java to scala lately trying to tech myself the language. Suppose we have this scala class: class Person() { var name:String = "joebob" } Now I want to access it from java so I can't use dot-notation like I would if I was in scala. So I can get my var's contents by issuing: person = Person.new(); System.out.println(person.name()); and set it via: person = Person.new(); person.name_$eq("sallysue"); System.out.println(person.name()); This holds true cause our Person Class looks like this in javap: Compiled from "Person.scala" public class Person extends java.lang.Object implements scala.ScalaObject{ public Person(); public void name_$eq(java.lang.String); public java.lang.String name(); public int $tag() throws java.rmi.RemoteException; } Yes, I could write my own getters/setters but I hate filling classes up with that and it doesn't make a ton of sense considering I already have them -- I just want to alias the _$eq method better. (This actually gets worse when you are dealing with stuff like antlr because then you have to escape it and it ends up looking like person.name_\$eq("newname"); Note: I'd much rather have to put up with this rather than fill my classes with more setter methods. So what would you do in this situation?

  I would like to display a Rails edit form using JS instead of redirecting with HTML. To do this, I use UJS for the edit link: <%= link_to "Edit user info", edit_user_path(1), :remote => true %> Then, the "edit" action of User controller is like this (simplified version): controllers/users_controller.rb: def edit # Step 1: Get the edit HTML form @html = render_to_string(:template => "users/edit.html") # Step 2: Use JS to display the form in the correct place render "users/edit.js" end As you may guess, I have two views: The html version of "edit" action which contains the form in HTML format. Let's consider a test version: views/users/edit.html.erb: <h1>This is just a test</h1> The js version that will display the form in the correct place, using jQuery for example. Again, for test purpose, let's just popup the html text: views/users/edit.js.erb: alert("<%= @html %>"); The problem is that nothing is executed (no popup) Using the inspector (from Chrome web browser), I get the response as text format: alert("<h1>This is just a test</h1>"); Do you have any idea? Why do the rendered JS is not executed? Thanks in advance.

• Elegant code question: How to avoid creating unneeded object

  The root of my question is that the C# compiler is too smart. It detects a path via which an object could be undefined, so demands that I fill it. In the code, I look at the tables in a DataSet to see if there is one that I want. If not, I create a new one. I know that dtOut will always be assigned a value, but the the compiler is not happy unless it's assigned a value when declared. This is inelegant. How do I rewrite this in a more elegant way? • Weird compile-time behavior when trying to use primitive type in generics

Things get a bit weird for me in the 3rd assignment in the above snippet: the compiler is complaining that Integer[] cannot be converted to int[]. The statement is 100% true, of course, but I'm wondering WHY the compiler is making this complaint. If you comment that line, and follow the compiler's "suggestion" as in the 4th assignment, the compiler is actually satisfied!!! NOW the code compiles just fine! Which is crazy, of course, since like the run time behavior suggests, int[] cannot be converted to Object[] (which is what T[] is type-erased into at run time). So my question is: why is the compiler "suggesting" that I assign to Integer[] instead for the 3rd assignment? How does the compiler reason to arrive to that (erroneous!) conclusion?

  I am trying to create a dynamic two-column spinning wheel for iOS Safari using this HTML/Javascript wheel. However, I am having trouble getting the value of the first column to change the results of the second column. I have tried using an if statement to get the value of the first variable (var beverage) and add the value of the second column correspondingly. • WCF Multiple contracts with duplicate method names

  Hello, I have a service with multiple contracts like so. [ServiceContract] public partial interface IBusinessFunctionDAO { [OperationContract] BusinessFunction GetBusinessFunction(Int32 businessFunctionRefID); [OperationContract] IEnumerable<Project> GetProjects(Int32 businessFunctionRefID); } [ServiceContract] public partial interface IBusinessUnitDAO { [OperationContract] BusinessUnit GetBusinessUnit(Int32 businessUnitRefID); [OperationContract] IEnumerable<Project> GetProjects(Int32 businessUnitRefID); } I then explicitly implemented each one of the interfaces like so. public class TrackingTool : IBusinessFunctionDAO, IBusinessUnitDAO { BusinessFunction IBusinessFunctionDAO.GetBusinessFunction(Int32 businessFunctionRefID) { // implementation } IEnumerable<Project> IBusinessFunctionDAO.GetProjects(Int32 businessFunctionRefID) { // implementation } BusinessUnit IBusinessUnitDAO.GetBusinessUnit(Int32 businessUnitRefID) { // implementation } IEnumerable<Project> IBusinessUnitDAO.GetProjects(Int32 businessUnitRefID) { // implementation } } As you can see I have two GetProjects(int) methods, but each one is implemented explicitly so this compiles just fine and is perfectly valid. The problem arises when I actually start this as a service. It gives me an error staying that TrackingTool already contains a definition GetProject. While it is true, it is part of a different service contract. Does WCF not distinguish between service contracts when generating the method names ? Is there a way to get it to distinguish between the service contracts ? My App.Config looks like this <service name="TrackingTool"> <endpoint address="BusinessUnit" contract="IBusinessUnitDAO" /> <endpoint address="BusinessFunction" contract="IBusinessFunctionDAO" /> </service> Any help would be appreciated. • How can I exclude words with apostrophes when reading into a table of strings?

This exception is thrown no matter what character I use, so long as it is present within the words I am reading in. I am aware that it is probably a super simple fix, but I just really need another set of eyes to see it. Thanks in advance.

• Unmanaged Process in Mono

  I want to start a quite expensive process (jackd) from a Mono application, and do not need full access to the process from the application itself. As the process is so expensive in terms of CPU usage, a Glib.IdleHandler for polling the process will not work, as it is never executed, and the GUI becomes unresponsive. Is there any way to have the cake and eating it at the same time in Mono? EDIT: I only need to be able to start and stop the process from Mono, I do not need information about the state of the process or if it has exited, as my application will register itself as a client to jackd, basically I need a "replacement" for bash's jackd &>/dev/null 2>&1 & for the System.Diagnostics.Process ;). Here is what I have so far for starting and stopping the process: public void StartJackd() { _jackd = new Process (); _jackd.StartInfo = _jackdStartup; if (_jackd.Start ()) { _jackd.EnableRaisingEvents = true; _jackd.Exited += JackdExited; } } public void StopJackd() { if (_jackd != null && !_jackd.HasExited) { _jackd.CloseMainWindow (); } } And somewhere else I have this code for registering the IdleHandler: GLib.Idle.Add(new GLib.IdleHandler(UpdateJackdConnections)); This handler will fire all the time, while the process is not running, but never, when jackd is running.
