• Blackberry MDS simulator - Can't connect to the internet in the simulator.

  I'm trying to do some testing of a website through the Blackberry simulator, while the simulator works fine, I can't get to any sites in the Blackberry Browser. Here is the specific setup I'm using. I'm Windows 7 (64-bit) Home Edition I have the latest (at the time) MDS installation - BlackBerry Email and MDS Services Simulators 4.1.4 Finally, I have the latest (at the time) Blackberry Simulator - BlackBerry Smartphone Simulators 5.0.0 (5.0.0.442) - 9700 I first start the MDS service, it briefly pops up the command-prompt and then closes it. I'm assuming that when it does that, it started the MDS service. Then I open the Blackberry simulator (9700), which opens up fine and loads the Blackberry OS. Then with the Blackberry OS all loaded up, I navigate to the browser and for example type www.google.com and then at the bottom it just says "sending request" and loads for about a minute. Then times out and says it can't find a connection. Anyone have any thoughts on what I'm missing? Or, does anyone know of an online simulator for the Blackberry, because thus far this has been a huge pain for testing sites on a Blackberry. Thank you! Ben

• Flex: Double click event propagation on datagrid dependent on component order?

  I'd like to have a double click event on a datagrid in Flex3. The following example only works if the Accordion (id = "mustBeSecond") container comes after the DataGrid. Why is the order of the components important and what can I do to prevent this behavior? (The example does not work. • How to use visibilitychange event on Firefox Extensions

  I'm trying to learn how to make a firefox extension. I want to create a toolbar that only shows up on a specific page. I can make the toolbar appear, but then it should become hidden when I open or switch to a new tab, or close the tab with that specific page. • What is the right way to scale a Flex application up to fullscreen?

  Fullscreen mode and I have been battling for a while in this Flex application, and I'm coming up short on Google results to end my woes. I have no problem going into fullscreen mode by doing a Application.application.stage.displayState = StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN;, but the rest of the content just sits there in the top, left corner at it's original size. All right, says I, I'll just do a stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.SHOW_ALL and make it figure out how to pull this off. And it looks like it does. Except that when you mouse over the individual checkboxes and buttons and various components, they all fidget slightly. Just a slight jump up or down as they resize...on mouse over. Well, this is frustrating, but bearable. I can always just invoke invalidateSize() explicitly for all of them. But for the comboboxes. The ones at the bottom have their menus go off the bottom of the screen, and when I pop out of fullscreen mode, their drop downs cut off half way. I have no idea how to fix that. Can someone step in here, and put me out of my misery? • Are Subversion 1.6 & Xcode 3.2 compatible?

  Trying to get Xcode to work with Subversion server. Server: Subversion upgraded to 1.6.9 (Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.8) Client: Xcode 3.2.1 (Snow Leopard 10.6.2 with Subversion 1.6.5 though not sure that matters) Repository on server is setup and working fine via command line. However, I get an error when trying to create the Repository connection in Xcode: Error: 160043 (Unsupported FS format) Description: Expected FS format '2'; found format '4' a Google search seems to say that the server needs to be updated...but it's running 1.6.9 which is the most current version I'm aware of. Anyone know how to make this work? Is it even possible? I'm well aware of the command line usage but I would like to get Xcode & SVN talking... Revisiting this after some time: Using command line: username$ svn+ssh://hostname/Library/Subversion/Repository/test yields the same result: Description: Expected FS format '2'; found format Can anyone verify that I need to upgrade Subversion on the client machine to match version on server (1.6.9)?!? was hoping i wouldn't have to unless it was a "major" revision (ie. 1.5.x - 1.6.x)

• Strategies for Accessing a Application with a COM API From PHP

  Background: Experienced PHP developer with a mostly *nix background. I'm writing a PHP application that needs to interact with a proprietary 3rd party system. The 3rd party system is Windows only. The PHP application will be living on a separate Linux based system The 3rd party application has been described as having a "COM API" that I'll need to talk to from the PHP application. What does this look like architecturally speaking? I'm starting with the COM section of the PHP manual, but I have specific questions. Specific Questions: Can I talk directly to a COM API from a PHP application running on another server? If so, how? (what PHP extensions would I need, or what protocols/PHP functions would I be using to talk to the API) If the answer to number 2 is no, I'd assume I'd need some kind of application on the Windows machine that can talk to COM, and then a service on the windows machine I can hit with PHP. Are there prebuilt frameworks for this kind of thing? Is this all nonsense and/or did I say something exceedingly stupid? (Quite possible, as I'm a little fuzzy on what "COM" does and doesn't cover) I'm obviously not looking for a full solution here, I'm just trying to get a general idea of what is and isn't possible and what kind of things I'll want to Google for. • Custom SSL handling stopped working on Android 2.2 FroYo

  For my app, Transdroid, I am connecting to remote servers via HTTP and optionally securely via HTTPS. For these HTTPS connections with the HttpClient I am using a custom SSL socket factory implementation to make sure self-signed certificates are working. Basically, I accept everything and ignore every checking of any certificate. This has been working fine for some time now, but it no longer work for Android 2.2 FroYo. When trying to connect, it will return an exception: java.io.IOException: SSL handshake failure: I/O error during system call, Broken pipe Here is how I initialize the HttpClient: SchemeRegistry registry = new SchemeRegistry(); registry.register(new Scheme("http", new PlainSocketFactory(), 80)); registry.register(new Scheme("https", (trustAll ? new FakeSocketFactory() : SSLSocketFactory.getSocketFactory()), 443)); client = new DefaultHttpClient(new ThreadSafeClientConnManager(httpParams, registry), httpParams); I make use of a FakeSocketFactory and FakeTrustManager, of which the source can be found here: http://code.google.com/p/transdroid/source/browse/#svn/trunk/src/org/transdroid/util Again, I don't understand why it suddenly stopped work, or even what the error 'Broken pipe' means. • Programmatically copying custom content type and columns from one web to another

  Hi all: I'm experiencing a very stubborn problem when copying custom content type and its columns from one web to another within the same site. Basically, this is the code that I have: foreach (SPField field in existingWeb.Fields) { if (!destinationWeb.Fields.ContainsField(field.Title)) { destinationWeb.Fields.AddFieldAsXml(field.SchemaXml); destinationWeb.Update(); } } foreach (SPContentType existingWebCt in destinationWeb.ContentType) { SPContentType newContentType = new SPContentType(existingWebCt.Parent, destinationWeb.ContentTypes, existingWebCt.Name); foreach (SPFieldLink fieldLink in existingWebCt.FieldLinks) { SPField sourceField = existingWebCt.Fields[fieldLink.Id]; if (destinationWeb.Fields.ContainsField(sourceField.Title)) { SPFieldLink destinationWebFieldLink = new SPFieldLink(destinationWeb.Fields[sourceField.Title]); newContentType.FieldLinks.Add(destinationWebFieldLink); } } } existingWeb and destinationWeb are 2 webs within the same site. The code runs fine. But the problem is that in the SITE Content Type screen (under site settings), when I click the custom column link in the custom content type, I got an error saying: Invalid field name {UID}. The UID is the same UID as the custom column in the existing site. I checked with my web settings after completion. I can see the custom list (which I created with an item for testing purpose), but the custom column is gone from the view (though the actual data is still there... just have to check the box to get it to display). But I think that is less important... more of fyi. I've also gotten a variety of different exceptions should I copy things wrongly. Google has failed to help me out on this one. Does anyone know what I'm missing in order to get that link to work again? Thanks.

• Wysiwyg with image copy/paste

  First, I understand that an image cannot be "copied" from a local machine into a website. I understand that it must be uploaded. I am a web programmer, and am familiar with common web wysiwyg tools such as TinyMCE and FCKEditor. My question is if there exists a program or web module or something of the sort that works will perform an automatic upload of images for a wysiwyg. I have a client that is constantly complaining about not being able to copy/paste documents with images from MS Word into a wysiwyg to create content on their website. I have looked into TX Text Control (http://labs.textcontrol.com/) and was looking into a possibly flash wysiwyg that could upload the file automatically behind the scenes. I don't know if this exists, and google did not much help me in my search, so I thought I would ask other coders. I am open to any sort of server technology, or browser requirements. I am looking for some browser based tool instead of an application tool such as Dreamweaver or otherwise. If no good solution to the problem exists, I am willing to accept that at this point. Note: This was a request from a client, and to me it seemed rather unreasonable. I decided to gather community advice instead of just tell the client 'No' and the options here have been extremely helpful and informative in presenting possible solutions.

  I've been trying to get the Zend Jquery autocomplete function working, when i noticed this section in the Zend documentation. The following UI widgets are available as form view helpers. Make sure you use the correct version of jQuery UI library to be able to use them. The Google CDN only offers jQuery UI up to version 1.5.2. Some other components are only available from jQuery UI SVN, since they have been removed from the announced 1.6 release. autoComplete($id, $value, $params, $attribs): The AutoComplete View helper will be included in a future jQuery UI version (currently only via jQuery SVN) and creates a text field and registeres it to have auto complete functionality. The completion data source has to be given as jQuery related parameters 'url' or 'data' as described in the jQuery UI manual. Does anybody know which svn url tag or branch i need to download to get a javascript file with the autocomplete functions available in it? • "Work stealing" vs. "Work shrugging (tm)"?

  Why is it that I can find lots of information on "work stealing" and nothing on a "work shrugging(tm)" as a load-balancing strategy? I am surprised because work-stealing seems to me to have an inherent weakness when implementating efficient fine-grained load-balancing. Vis:- Relying on consumer processors to implement distribution (by actively stealing) begs the question of what these processors do when they find no work? None of the work-stealing references and implementations I have come across so far address this issue satisfactorarily for me. They either:- 1) Manage not to disclose what they do with idle processors! [Cilk] (?anyone know?) 2) Have all idle processors sleep and wake periodically and scatter messages to the four winds to see if any work has arrived [e.g. JAWS] (= way too latent & inefficient for me). 3) Assume that it is acceptable to have processors "spinning" looking for work ( = non-starter for me!) Unless anyone thinks there is a solution for this I will move on to consider a "Work Shrugging(tm)" strategy. Having the task-producing processor distribute excess load seems to me inherently capable of a much more efficient implementation. However a quick google didn't show up anything under the heading of "Work Shrugging" so any pointers to prior-art would be welcome. tx Tags I would have added if I was allowed to [work-stealing]

• AMF data is incomplete with Flex Service

  Hello everybody. I am bussy with a Flex Project with a data services. Flash builder installed Zend Framework with Zend_Amf. When i run the project i get the error NetConnection.Call.Failed: HTTP: Failed. With chalers i say that Zend_Amf give the error: AMF data is incomplete (0 bytes of 0 bytes). Please check the recording limits in the Recording Settings. I don't know what the problem means. I have searched on google, but i haven't found a good result. • JQuery UI Autocomplete showing as bullets

  The JQuery UI Demo page for autocomplete (link) has a nice looking search box and drop down with nice colors and highlights and such. When I implement it for myself, I end up with a bulleted list. How do I get my drop down of suggestions to look like theirs? A few notes/code fragments: I'm working in .NET land, so I'm using the <asp:ScriptManager> tag with <asp:ScriptReference>s inside it to get the hosted jquery.min.js (1.4.2) and jquery-ui.min.js (1.8.1) files from Google. My input box is fairly simple: <div class='ui-widget'> <label for="terms">Term: </label> <input id="terms" class="ui-autocomplete-input"> </div> My autocomplete looks like: $(""#terms"").autocomplete({source:""GetAttributesJSON.aspx"",minLength:2}); I get the correct data back, so that's not the issue. I just want fancy graphics. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

• StackOverFlowException - but oviously NO recursion/endless loop

  Hi there, I'm now blocked by this problem the entire day, read thousands of google results, but nothing seems to reflect my problem or even come near to it... i hope any of you has a push into the right direction for me. I wrote a client-server-application (so more like 2 applications) - the client collects data about his system, as well as a screenshot, serializes all this into a XML stream (the picture as a byte[]-array]) and sends this to the server in regular intervals. The server receives the stream (via tcp), deserializes the xml to an information-object and shows the information on a windows form. This process is running stable for about 20-25 minutes at a submission interval of 3 seconds. When observing the memory usage there's nothing significant to see, also kinda stable. But after these 20-25 mins the server throws a StackOverflowException at the point where it deserializes the tcp-stream, especially when setting the Image property from the byte[]-array. • Are there any applications written in the Io programming language? (Or, distributing Io applications

  I've recently become interested in prototype-based OOP, and I've been playing with Io and Ioke. Distributing an application with Ioke is simple. It's on the JVM. Need I say more? However, I'm absolutely stumped as to how one would distribute an Io application, especially on Windows. It's not like you can have end-users compile Io to run your application. I was actually shocked the Io has gone for 8 years without forming some sort of standards for things like distribution. Ruby has gems, Java has jars, and so on. The worse thing about it is, I can't find a single application written in Io to maybe steal ideas on distribution from. Maybe I suck at google searching (Io is a horrible search name, by the way ;P). Is there any sort of canonical way to distribute Io applications? Are there even any Io applications in existence, or am I just missing the point? I'm not sure if this should be community wiki or not. If you think it should, comment and let me know.

• How to do Basic Authentication using FireWatir on Ubuntu Linux?

  Hi, I'm trying to use FireWatir (1.6.5) to access a site using Basic Authentication and I've been unable to find a solution that works on Firefox in Linux. Does FireWatir 1.6.5 support Basic Authentication on Linux? I've been searching the web for 2 days and can't get a straight answer anywhere as to how to do this. The only thread I found that seemed helpful was this one ( http://groups.google.com/group/watir-general/browse_thread/thread/d8ab9a177d282ce4/fc1bf2319fb387d8?lnk=gst&q=basic+authentication#fc1bf2319fb387d8). Aedorn Varanis says " Angrez's fork had the solution so I'm using that now. Thanks Angrez, works perfectly!", but he doesn't mention what he did to get things working. Initially I tried to bypass the authentication dialog box by using: browser.goto('http://admin:[email protected]') However, this generates a "Confirm" dialog which says: "You are about to log in to the site "172.20.1.1" with the username "admin"." [Cancel, OK] This dialog blocks, and the goto call won't return until I click "OK". Then I tried adding: browser.startClicker("ok") browser.goto('http://admin:[email protected]') But this ALSO generates the same "Confirm" dialog. I tested out the startClicker functionality using the unit test /var/ lib/gems/1.8/gems/firewatir-1.6.5/unittests/html/JavascriptClick.html and it worked fine, which makes me think that using the startClicker method is NOT the correct way to take care of the Confirm dialog. Anybody else found a way to get Basic Auth to work, or how to click the OK on the confirm dialog? I'm at my wits end...
