• Very slow accessing printer shared from Windows Machine

  How do I go about debugging a networking problem where the office printer is shared off a Windows XP PC and is very slow from me to access? Print/changing any settings can take several minutes and applications often display "Not Responding" in this time. My machine is a Windows Vista PC. The other PCs in the office are either Vista or XP and do not suffer from any printing problems. I am not experiencing any other network related problems, I can access the web and e-mail fine. The printer is a HP officejet Pro 8000

  Am using clearos as open vpn server and configured my users on windows machine with open vpn client. My problem is that users connect to the server without a default gateway and also with ip conflicts, i can ping the server but i can not ping any user behind the server. please any one can help to find out what causes the clients to connect without a default gateway and also not to be able to ping any user behind the clearos open vpn server. • ATI Radeon 4350 lower resolutions do not fill screen in Windows 7

  I have a new Windows 7 64-bit machine with an ATI HD4350 card. The card is connected via VGA (DSUB) to a SyncMaster 205 BW LCD monitor. If I set the resolution to 1680x1050 the LCD screen is completely filled and everything looks fine. But, if I try to set the resolution to 1280x768 (my preferred resolution) only about 2/3 of the monitor screen is used. There are large black bars above and below the image (but not on the sides). I have successfully used this monitor at the 1280x768 resolution for many years without this problem (albeit in Windows XP and a different video card). Can anyone suggest how I can get adjust things so that the entire screen is used at the 1280x768 resolution?

• MacBook Pro USB port provides more current in Mac OS X than in Windows

  I have a MacBook Pro with both Mac OS X Lion and Windows (under BootCamp) installed. While in Windows, I tried to charge my iPad 3 via the USB port. The iPad says "Not charging", but really, it does, just super slow (4-5% per hour). The reason for this is that the iPad requires 2.1 A of current, but a standard USB port provides 0.5 A. However, if I switch to Mac OS X, the iPad states that it is charging and it does at a rate of about 10% per hour. The only takeaway from this is that either OS X puts out more current on the USB port or that it recognizes the iPad and acts accordingly. Can someone provide more information on what is actually happening?

  I'm trying to setup a test enviroment on a virtual machine running Windows XP Home (totally updated), with Apache 2.2 and PHP 5.4.7. I can load the PHP 5 module inside httpd.conf and if I don't rename php.ini-DEVELOPMENT (or -PRODUCTION) file to php.ini, the engine works fine. This basic configuration doesn't have MySQL module loaded, so I have to rename rename the .ini-DEVELOPMENT into .ini and edit as follows: ; Directory in which the loadable extensions (modules) reside. ; http://php.net/extension-dir ; extension_dir = "./" ; On windows: extension_dir = "C:/php/ext/" ... extension=php_mysql.dll extension=php_mysqli.dll Restart Apache with no problems and... all I can get is a blank page. Where can I see some error or do you know where is the trouble? Tell me if I need to post something else to give you more details.

  Im using Windows Xp professional Sp2 Whenever i start my windows, svchost.exe starts connecting to all the possible ips on lan like from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.200 The local port ranges from 1000-1099 and the remote port being 445. After its done with the local ips, it starts connecting to other random ips. I tried blocking connections to the port 445 using the local security polices but it didn't work Is there any possible way i could prevent svchost from connecting to these ips without involving any firewall installed ? since my pc slows down due to the load I'd be thankful for any advices

  I am running Win7 in a Parallels Desktop 6 on Mac. On the mac, I use /etc/hosts : 127.0.0.1 mysite and it works fine : I can type mysite in the url and the website will display. • No colors when running native windows shell application from mintty

  Hi. I have installed cygwin (i'm not very experienced with it), and try to run a native windows shell application from it, (msbuild.exe which is the build tool for the .NET framework, to be exact). When I run the application from the normal cygwin bash shell, the output of the application appear as it should with the text colors that I would normally see in the windows command line. But when I execute the program from a mintty terminal, there is no coloring of the output, all text is in the default foreground color. I'm puzzled, because I would have expected the color coding to be the standard ANSI color code escape characters... Can this be fixed?

  I have on my desk a computer that I am reinstalling. I have just completed the Windows XP install , which is professional service pack 3. I have also installed an AV package. Now it is time to install the audio and display drivers. Windows Update does not detect the Display card, and neither the audio device. I really have no idea what devices are present in this system, and I am thinking of opening the case, and reading some IDs from the cards themselves. Before I do this, is there not some kind of tool that can automatically detect hardware and install drivers automatically. If not then at least tell me what devices are present, with some real descriptions, so I can search for drivers.

  Hey there, I just installed XAMPP lite on Windows 7. I have two drives - C: for the OS and regular files, and an external drive E:. I insatlled XAMPP lite on E: (on the root), and its been giving me problems. Apache works well enough, but MySQL doesn't work. When I go to http://localhost/phpmyadmin/, it gives me the following error: Error MySQL said: #2003 - Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061) Connection for controluser as defined in your configuration failed. Any ideas as to what could be the problem? I used the zip file for XAMPP lite, the 32 bit version. This is on Windows 7 Home premium. Thanks!

  my domain is controlled by a Samba domain controller running on openSUSE 11.3. It manages other openSUSE boxes and some Windows 7 boxes. Now one harddisk of a Windows 7 computer crashed and I had to reinstall. I wasn't able to get the computer name ("Win26") of the broken PC out of the domain and so I couldn't add the reinstalled "Win26" to the domain again. So how can I remove the entry of the old "Win26" computer out of the domain controller, so that I can add the new "Win26" to the domain again?   I've found a few posts on this site, however my situation is different. I have a new Dell server with no OS installed. I would like to install Windows 2008 Web Edition. I have a few USB ports and Ethernet. No CD or DVD drives. Is this article the best & only way to proceed? Installing Windows 2008 via USB thumbdrive or should I just get a external hardrive and hook it up to a usb. Once the OS is installed I'll never need a DVD drive again - so that's idea is a waste of money.

  When I log into Windows 7 I need to wait 10 seconds and then disable the Local Area Connection (ethernet adaptor) and then reenable it. I have looked through the suggested answer: Enable/disable wireless interface in a bat file but that seems irrelevant as it just toggles the current state. From what I can tell I need to include: netsh interface set interface "Local Area Connection" DISABLED netsh interface set interface "Local Area Connection" ENABLED but I'm unsure of the wait time or how I can have this start after Windows has successfully logged in. What's the best approach here?

  I have a 16GB USB Flash Drive that is partitioned into two different sizes. The first partition contains a bootable version of Ubuntu, the second partition is for general saving of files. Windows will only recognise the first partition. I have tried using Bootice but this breaks the bootable partition. • VM connected to network but not to internet in VMware Player 6 on Windows 8.1 host

  So I am running Bitnami's MEAN stack in VMware Player 6.0.2 on Windows 8.1 and the VM connects just fine to the network: https://www.dropbox.com/s/xfdzohjuuepz52w/ifconfig.PNG However, I am having a great deal of trouble getting the VM to communicate with the internet. No matter what sort of action I take (even something as simple as apt-get update), the machine just sits there and eventually fails to connect. I am not entirely sure if these adapters are relevant to connecting the VM to the internet, to be honest. This is the first time I have ever had an issue connecting a virtual machine to the internet. This problem is also happening with other VM's I am trying to run. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong and how I can fix it?

• Cannot connect Solaris 10 to Windows 7

  I'm trying to connect a Solaris VM (powered by VMware Player) to Windows Explorer in Windows 7. When I try to map the network drive I get the following: The specified server cannot perform the requested operation. I am using the following URL which has worked on a machine I used before. The only thing that has changed is the IP address of the Solaris machine.
