• IIS 7 Using Domain Account for Application pool identity Invalid Password

  I have an asp.net website containing a WCF service that I am developing on a Windows 7 machine hosted with IIS 7. I am needing to connect to an instance of Reporting Services 2005 with the service, and have been getting 401 errors when trying to execute reports. So, I assume that I need to be running the IIS Application pool under a domain account. The problem is that when I try to change the identity to a domain account, I get the error message "The specified password is invalid. Type a new password." I've rechecked the password multiple times to make sure it is correct. The account I'm using has admin rights on the machine. I saw elsewhere to try running this command: aspnet_regiis.exe -GA domain\username which I did but it didn't help. What else do I need to do?

• Cannot install .NET Framework 4.0 on Windows XP SP3

  I'm using Windows XP SP3 logged in as the administrator. I had RAID Mirroring running. The motherboard broke earlier in the year. When I got a new battery I did not resync. I just use the disks as two separate disks. I searched Google for the errors but I didn't find anything detailed enough. • Iphone SQLite Databse with german umlauts results in NULL value

  Hi guys, I'm quite new to the Iphone development and after search for an answer for 3 hours now, I hope that you guys can give me a hand. My problem is that I have a SQLite Database with german umlauts. Looking at it with a SQLite browser tool shows me that the data is stored with german umlauts, correctly. But selecting fields with german umlauts in it results in a NULL value. I'm already using "stringWithUTF8String", so I don't get the point where the problem is placed. • Can't edit an account in MySQL Administrator on OS X

  I'm running MySQL 5.5.20 on OS X 10.6.8. Using MySQL Administrator 1.2.12 (the latest) I am unable to edit any accounts. After successfully connecting to the database in MySQL Administrator, I go the Account tab, expand a user, and it just says "Loading...". It will stay on "Loading..." indefinitely. The symptoms are almost identical to user's experience and this MySQL bug from 2006, which has since been closed (fixed?). If I create a user and grant permissions to a schema, I get the error "Could not save changes to the use", which came up in 2005 as a bug (now closed). How do I edit MySQL accounts using MySQL Administrator?

  Simply put: does Mac OS X support RFC3442? RFC3442 implements DHCP codes (121 and 249) to provide classless static routes to DHCP clients. I can only seem to find rather old information circa 2005-2008 which implies that OS X does not support RFC3442. Any chance this has changed recently and I'm just doing something wrong while setting it up? My anecdotal testing seems to confirm that OS X does not support RFC3442 but I'm looking for confirmation. If OS X still doesn't support RFC3442, what is an alternative method of pushing static routes to OS X clients?

• How to monitor CPU usage and performance on a Hyper-V server with several VM's

  Hello, I have a server that is running Windows 2008 64 bit Hyper-V, with 8 gigs of RAM and Intel Xeon X3440 @ 2.53 Ghz, which gives me 8 logical cores in the performance monitor on the host system. I have set up three Virtual Machines, all running Windows 2008 32 bit. Build server, running Team City Staging server SQL Server, running SQL Server 2005 I have some troubles with the setup in that the host monitor remains responsive at all times, even though the VM's are seemingly working at 100% cpu and are very sluggish and unresponsive. (I have asked a separate question about that.) So the question here is: What is the best way to monitor how the physical CPU's are actually utilized? The reason I am asking is that I am being told that i cannot reliably use the task manager to monitor CPU usage in a VM.

• CPU's on Hyper-V host system is just idling, even though VM's are at full throttle

  Hello, I have a server that is running Windows 2008 64 bit Hyper-V, with 8 gigs of RAM and Intel Xeon X3440 @ 2.53 Ghz, which gives me 8 logical cores in the performance monitor on the host system. I have set up three Virtual Machines, all running Windows 2008 32 bit. Build server, running Team City Staging server SQL Server, running SQL Server 2005 These three machines are running very sluggishly, they are at 100% cpu even though the host system is barely using any cpu at all, typically below 10% total. Could anyone please give some tips as to the best setup for CPU allocating? Should I have set each server to have two cores, or should I increase this number above the total number of cores on the host? What is a good number to set on the Virtual Machine Reserve and Virtual Machine Limit? Is 8 gigs of physical RAM insufficient for 3 VM's? Thanks for reading. :)

• Blurry Digital TV Signal in Media Center

  I recently reformatted my box and I reinstalled XP Media Center 2005. My TV signal is perfect if I plug it directly into the tv; and at any rate even shows I recorded previous to the reformat are blury. I have installed all updates (including Media Player 11) and I have installed a codec pack for different file types. I have no clue why it wouldn't display right. When I play the previously recorded shows in VLC they come out perfectly clear... Any ideas?

I've looked around and can find 4000 articles about improving Hyper-V performance, but I can't find any that actually do a side-by-side comparison or give benchmarking numbers. Ideally, I'm interested in a comparison of CPU, memory, disk, and graphics performance between something like the following: Some powerful workstation (with plenty of RAM) with Windows 7 installed on it directly Same exact worksation with Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 (the bare Server role) and a full-screen Windows 7 client machine Virtual Server 2005 had performance that didn't compare at all with actual hardware, but with the advances in CPU and hardware-level virtualization, has performance improved significantly? How obvious would it be to a user of the two above scenarios that one of them was virtualized, and does anybody know of actual benchmarking of this type?

  If I use the 'cd' BASH built-in in a command substitution, it prints extra stuff to stdout, but only when piped to, eg., less. $ echo `cd .` # The output is a single newline, appended by echo. $ echo `cd .` | less # less displays: ESC]2;my.hostname.com - tmp/testenv^G (END) What's going on there? This behavior isn't documented in the bash man page for cd. Obviously, running just 'cd' in a command substitution is silly, but something like NEWDIR=`cd mypath; pwd` could be useful. For some reason, I can't find a simple example anywhere of someone doing this. I'm no stranger to callbacks. However, I just can't seem to get the syntax down right. But, XCode doesn't like the "myCallback" usage at the bottom there. It says: Undeclared Use of Identifier 'myCallback.' That method is declared in the header file, and I've even tried making it static. Nothing seems to make this error go away. I know I must be doing something fundamentally wrong here, but for the life of me I can't figure out what - I can't even find other code samples in this area that could help me figure out what I'm missing. • SMO ManagedComputer.ServiceInstances is empty

  I am trying to use SMO (VS 2010, SQL Server 2008) to connect to SQL Server and view the server protocol configuration. I can connect and list the Services and ClientProtocols as well as the account MSSQLSERVER service is running under. However, the ServerInstances collection is empty. The only instance on the target server is the default (MSSQLSERVER), shouldn't that be in the collection? How can I get an instance of it so I can inspect the ServerProtocols collection? • Const references when dereferencing iterator on set, starting from Visual Studio 2010

  Starting from Visual Studio 2010, iterating over a set seems to return an iterator that dereferences the data as 'const data' instead of non-const. The following code is an example of something that does compile on Visual Studio 2005, but not on 2010 (this is an artificial example, but clearly illustrates the problem we found on our own code). In this example, I have a class that stores a position together with a temperature. I define comparison operators (not all them, just enough to illustrate the problem) that only use the position, not the temperature. To check the correctness of the comparison operator, I add data points with the same position multiple times. When writing the contents of the set, I can clearly see there are only 3 points in the set. The for-loop loops over the set, and sets the temperature. Logically this is allowed, since the temperature is not used in the comparison operators. This code compiles correctly in Visual Studio 2005, but gives compilation errors in Visual Studio 2010 on the following line (in the for-loop): DataPoint &point = *it; The error given is that it can't assign a "const DataPoint" to a [non-const] "DataPoint &". It seems that you have no decent (= non-dirty) way of writing this code in VS2010 if you have a comparison operator that only compares parts of the data members. Possible solutions are: Adding a const-cast to the line where it gives an error Making temperature mutable and making setTemperature a const method But to me both solutions seem rather 'dirty'. It looks like the C++ standards committee overlooked this situation. Or not? What are clean solutions to solve this problem? Did some of you encounter this same problem and how did you solve it? • Re-using port 443 for another service - is it possible?

  The ultimate goal is to allow a remote data connection service to operate on port 443 on a the SQL server. The application accessing the connection is behind a firewall and it is because of the client's reluctance to open another port that I have been asked to try and get this working. The current environment is Windows 2003 R2 (SP2) and SQL Server 2005. IIS is not installed, but when I try and install the third party connection software (SequeLink) it won't as it reports something is still configured on/using port 443. Netstat does not show anything listening on the port and I've tried editing the system32\drivers\etc\services file removing any reference to port 443 and also using sc delete to delete the HTTP and HTTPFilter (HTTP SSL in services console) services to see if this would help. Rebooting after each change. What could still be using the port? Is what I'm trying even possible (I have my doubts but have to investigate every avenue)? Any help/pointers would be greatly appreciated.

• Place Query Results into Array then Implode?

  Basically I pull an Id from table1, use that id to find a site id in table2, then need to use the site ids in an array, implode, and query table3 for site names. I cannot implode the array correctly first I got an error, then used a while loop. • ibatis problem using <isNull> whilst iterating over a List

  Hi, I'm new to iBatis and I'm struggling with the and elements. I want to iterate over a List of Book instances (say) that are passed in as a HashMap: MyParameters. The list will be called listOfBooks. The clause of the overall SQL statement will therefore look like this: <iterate prepend="AND" property="MyParameters.listOfBooks" conjunction="AND" open="(" close=")"> ... </iterate> I also need to produce different SQL within the iterate elements depending on whether a property of each Book instance in the 'listOfBooks' List is null, or not. So, I need a statement something like this: <iterate prepend="AND" property="MyParameters.listOfBooks" conjunction="AND" open="(" close=")"> <isNull property="MyParameter.listOfBooks.title"> <!-- SQL clause #1 here --> </isNull> <isNotNull property="MyParameter.listOfBooks.title"> <!-- SQL clause #2 here --> </isNotNull> When I do this I get an error message stating that there is no "READABLE" property named 'title' in my Book class. However, each Book instance does contain a title property, so I'm confused! I can only assuem that I have managled the syntax in trying to pinpoint the title of particular Book instance in listOfBooks. I'm struggling to find the correct technique for trying to achieve this. If anyone can advise a way forward I'd be grateful. Thanks

• Hibernate: Dirty Checking and Only Update of Dirty Attributes?

  Hello Experts, in "good old JDBC days" I wrote a lot of SQL Queries that did very targeted updates of only the "attributes/members" that were actually changed: For Example having an object with the following members: public String name; public String address; public Date date; If only date was changed in some Business Method I would only issue an SQL UPDATE for the date member. ==It seems however (thats my "impression" of hibernate) that when working with a standard Hibernate mapping (mapping the full class), even updates of only one single member lead to a full update of the object in SQL Statements generated by Hibernate. My Questions are: 1.) Is this observation correct, that hibernate DOES NOT intelligently check (in a fully mapped class), what member(s) where changed and then only issue updates for the specific changed members, but rather always will update (in the generated SQL Update Statement) all mapped members (of a class), even if they were not changed (in case the object is dirty due to one member being dirty...) 2.) What can I do to make Hibernate only update those members, that have been changed? I am searching for a solution to have hibernate only update the member that actually changed. (I know hibernate does some big work on doing dirty-checking, but as far as I know this dirtychecking is only relevant to identify if the object as whole is dirty, not what single member is dirty.) • optimizing file share performance on Win2k8?

  We have a case where we're accessing a RAID array (drive E:) on a Windows Server 2008 SP2 x86 box. (Recently installed, nothing other than SQL Server 2005 on the server.) In one scenario, when directly accessing it (E:\folder\file.xxx) we get 45MBps throughput to a video file. If we access the same file on the same array, but through UNC path (\server\folder\file.xxx) we get about 23MBps throughput with the exact same test. Obviously the second test is going through more layers of the stack, but that's a major performance hit. What tuning should we be looking at for making the UNC path be closer in performance to the direct access case? Thanks, Kirk (corrected: it is CIFS not SMB, but generalized title to 'file share'.) (additional info: this happens during the read from a single file, not an issue across multiple connections. the file is on the local machine, but exposed via file share. so client and file server are both same Windows 2008 server.)
