• Dynamically generating a file with javascript?

  I'm working on a web app for my company that will let us do some image tagging stuff, and I'd like to be able to generates results in the form of a CSV file. I can do this easily enough by dumping the CSV data to a div or something on the page and having the user copy it out. I'd rather have them hit the a generate button and have a CSV file downloaded as though they clicked on a link to the result, so they can more easily just save the file somewhere convenient. Is it possible to simulate this kind of thing with javascript? I basically want to dynamically generate the file and then let them download it, client side.

• Importing a spreadsheet, but having trouble.

  I have a form that allows a user to import a spreadsheet. This spreadsheet is generally static when it comes to column headers, but now the users want to be able to include an optional column (called Notes). My code crashes when I try to read the column from the spreadsheet if it doesn't exist. • Active Index is not being persisted in jQuery accordion change event

  I have an asp.net aspx page and on that page I have a hidden input field with and id of paneIndex. However, when I load the page, the alert shows index 1 which is correct on the first load, but if I open up pane 3 for example, the alert shows 1 still. Am I doing something wrong? • What is the best file format to parse?

  Scenario: I'm working on a rails app that will take data entry in the form of uploaded text-based files. I need to parse these files before importing the data. I can choose the file type uploaded to the app; the software used by those uploading has several export options regarding file type. While it may be insignificant, I was wondering if there is a specific file type that is most efficiently parsed. This question can be viewed as language-independent, I believe. (While XML is commonly parsed, it is not a feasible file type for sake of this project.)

• Perl Regex Mismatch Issue

  This is a really basic regex question but since I can't seem to figure out why the match is failing in certain circumstances I figured I'd post it to see if anyone else can point out what I'm missing. I'm trying to pull out the 2 sets of digits from strings of the form: 12309123098_102938120938120938 1321312_103810312032123 123123123_10983094854905490 38293827_1293120938129308 I'm using the following code to process each string: if($string && $string =~ /^(\d)+_(\d)+$/) { if(IsInteger($1) && IsInteger($2)) { print "success ('$1','$2')"; } else { print "fail"; } } Where the IsInterger() function is as follows: sub IsInteger { my $integer = shift; if($integer && $integer =~ /^\d+$/) { return 1; } return; } This function seems to work most of the time but fails on the following for some reason: 1287123437_1268098784380 1287123437_1267589971660 Any ideas on why these fail while others succeed?   Hi, I'm starting to digg some rails plugins to create modal forms in rails. Almost all documents that you find are too old (2006,2007) or more focused in php. I would like to create a "feedback" tab that when you click on that, it opens a form. For example, you can check the railscast website, http://railscasts.com/. Ryan Bates made it in his website, but didnt make any screencast about it. any idea/tip about a rails plugin to work with jquery and to do those forms?

• Two-key encryption/decryption?

  I'm looking to store some fairly sensitive data using PHP and MySQL and will be using some form of reversible encryption to do so since I need to get the data back out in plain text for it to be of any use. I'll be deriving the encryption key from the users' username/password combination but I'm stumped for what to do in the (inevitable) event of a password being forgotten. I realise that the purpose of encryption is that it can only be undone using the correct key but this must have been addressed before.. I'm trying to get my head around whether or not public key cryptography would apply to the problem but all I can think of is that the private key will still need to be correct to decrypt the data.. Any ideas?

• "Socket operation on non-socket" error due to strange sytax

  I ran across the error Socket operation on non-socket in some of my networking code when calling connect and spent a lot of time trying to figure out what was causing it. I finally figured out that the following line of code was causing the problem: if ((sockfd = socket( ai->ai_family, ai->ai_socktype, ai->ai_protocol) < 0)) { See the problem? Here's what the line should look like: if ((sockfd = socket( ai->ai_family, ai->ai_socktype, ai->ai_protocol)) < 0) { What I don't understand is why the first, incorrect line doesn't produce a warning. To put it another way, shouldn't the general form: if ( foo = bar() < baz ) do_somthing(); look odd to the compiler, especially running with g++ -Wall -Wextra? If not, shouldn't it at least show up as "bad style" to cppcheck, which I'm also running as part of my compile?

• How HID devices work when programming?

  I have a barcode scanner works as HID device. Everytime a barcode scans it goes directly to windows keyboard, for example if I open notepad I can see the barcode typed there. As far as I know programmatically is it possible to to read HID data from your HID devices. But what happens if the user is already on a form with a text edit control? The scanned code will go inside the text box. Can you block incoming text and make a background-only processing? Can you explain the theory please?

• Python .app doesn't read .txt file like it should

  This question relates to this one: Python app which reads and writes into its current working directory as a .app/exe i got the path to the .txt file fine however now when i try to open it and read the contents it seems that it doesn't extract the data properly. • Send and receive data trough the power network

  I'm not interested in a hardware solution, I want to know about software that may "read" modulated signal received trough the power supply - some sort of a low-level driver that would access the power signal in a convenient place and demodulate it. Is there a way to receive signal from the computer's power supply? I'm interested in an API or library that would allow the computer to be seen as a node in a Power Line Communication network and receive data directly through the power cable, without the need for a converter. Is there any active research in this field? Edit: There is software that reads monitors and displays internal component voltages - DC voltage after being converted and filtered by the power supply - now I need is a method of data encoding that would be invariant to conversion and filtering, the original signal embedded in AC being present in some form within the converted DC signal.

  I am integrating bing maps into a web page. I am calling the GetDirections() method of my VEMap option. and setting the VERouteOptions.ShowDisambiguation property to true when I call VEMap.GetDirections(). So sometimes I get the following dialog: The problem is sometimes the user will enter a second set of directions into my form, and dialog remains. • Why does System.Threading.Timer callback successfully update UI?

  I have several System.Threading.Timers on my form application with callbacks that update the UI...successfully - i.e. without throwing errors. I had built these earlier, before I knew that UI should not be updated on any thread other than the UI thread. Now I am confused as to why it does not throw cross-thread exceptions when I am updating UI on these separate threading.timer threads? I will be changing these callbacks so that the UI updates are invoked on UI thread, but I am curious as to why this works. Edit: My application is a WinForms Application.

  when looping recursively through folders with files containing spaces the shell script I use is of this form, copied from the internet: while IFS= read -r -d $'\0' file; do dosomethingwith "$file" # do something with each file done < <(find /bar -name *foo* -print0) I think I understand he IFS bit, but I don't understand what the < < characters mean. Obviously there's some sort of piping going on here.. It's very hard to google "< <", you see. TIA -stib

• Refactoring a long method that simply populates

  I am refactoring a method which is over 500 lines (don't ask me why) The method basically queries a list of maps from the database and for each map in the list does some computation and adds the value of that computation to the map. There are however too many computations and puts being done that the code has reached over 500 lines already!   I'm working with ASP.NET 3.5. I have a list box that users must add items to (I've written the code for this). My requirement is that at least one item must be added to the listbox or they cannot submit the form. I have several other validators on the page and they all write to a ValidationSummary control. I would like this listbox validation to write to the Validation Summary control as well. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  Hi, how can I search for geo-objects in a certain perimeter ? E.g. I have several objects with Lat/Lon coordinates stored in my DB. Now I want to retrieve all the objects which lie in a specific perimeter (10 miles or 20 miles) around a given point. I guess what I would have to do is to form some query like: SELECT * FROM objects o where o.lat < (myPositionLat+x) AND o.lon < (myPositionLon+y) Is this right? How do I determine/set the values for x and y?

• Write Local File using Adobe Air Iframe

  This is driving me mad. I am creating an AIR application and everything is working great. However I would really like to have a form inside an Iframe that when the user clicks submit saves the file to local application storage directory. Right now I am able to do this and save the file with no problems when I just access the HTML page not inside an Iframe. However if I wrap the page in an iframe and hit submit the file does not save. Any code examples would be very much appreciated. I want to have the following: The user can check the RadioButtons. When the user clicks the Button, the JavaScript function should return all the checked radio buttons (I only need to know which RadioButton is checked). Since I know the name of the RadioButtons in my Windows 8 App, I can do the following: var object = WebView.InvokeScript("JavaScriptFunctionNAME", NameOfRadiobutton); So the WebView invokes the script and should get as a return the VALUE of the RadioButton, which is checked. “JavaScriptFunctionNAME” = name of the function in Javascript NameOfRadiobutton = the name of the RadioButton as a parameter (for example “frage1”). Currently I’m returning the value of the radiobutton, which is checked in the RadioGroup “frage1”. How can I check every RadioButton by it’s parameter? By this I mean I have a parameter “frage1” and return the value of the checked RadioButton. After this, I call the function again with the parameter “frage2” and return the checked RadioButtons value. Could anyone help me out with the JavaScript-function?
