• Allow login from another site

  I have web application where I store users' password and username. If you logon to this site, you can login with the password and username to have access to your profile. There is another option that requires you to login to my site from your site and have your profile within your site. This is because you might already have a site that your clients know you with. This latter part is what I don't know to implement. I have these ideas: Have a fixed IFrame within your site to contain my site: but I am concerned about size/layout since different clients have different layout/size for their content section. I am thinking of how to maintain session too A webservice: I don't know how feasible this is since the Password and ID are on my server. You may have to send them back and forth. It means client would have to code with my API. But I am not just returning data, I have to show them a page that contains the profile details OpenID, Single-SignOn: Just guessing - but the authentication and data resides on my server. there is nothing to access on your side in this case Any other methods/better approach Examples: like login into facebook within my site and still be able to do post updates, receive notifications Facebook implement some of these with IFrame e.g. the Like button

• Data base design with Blob

  Hi, I have a situation where i need to store the binary data into database as blob column. There are three different table exists in my database where in i need to store a blob data for each record. Not every record will have the blob data all the time. It is time and user based. The table one will have to store the *.doc files almost for all the record The table two will have to store the *.xml optionally. The table three will have to store images (not sure what is frequency, etc) Now my questions is whether it is a good idea to maintain a separate table to store the blob data pointing it to the respective table PK's (Yes, there will be no FK's and assuming program will maintain it). It will be some thing like below, BLOB|PK_ID|TABLE_NAME Alternatively, is it a good idea to keep the blob column in respective tables. As for as my application runtime is concerned, The table 2 will be read very frequently. Though the blob column will not be required. The table 2 record will gets deleted frequently. Similarly other blob data in respective table will not be accessed frequently. All of the blob content will be read on-demand basis. I'm thinking first approach will work better for me. What do you guys think? Btw, I'm using Oracle.

• CSS - background-size: cover; not working in Firefox

The code works on Chrome(Android + PC) and even the stock Android browser, but NOT Firefox(Android + PC). Is there any good alternative to it? Why is it not working anyways? Googled this issue a lot of times, but no one else seems to have this problem. Is it just me? In any case, how do I fix it? There are quite some questions on SO about it too, but none of them provide a legitimate solution, so can someone just tell me if they have background-size: cover; issues on firefox too? So basically tell me 3 things: 1. Why is it happening? 2. What is a good alternative to it? 3. Is this happening to you too? On Firefox browsers of course. • Destroy? Delete? What's going on here? Rails 2.3.5

  I am new to rails. My rails version is 2.3.5. I found usage like: In controller, a destroy method is defined and in view, you can use :action = "delete" to fire that method. Isn't the action name has to be the same as the method name? Why delete is mapped to destroy? Again, in my controller, I define a method called destroy to delete a record. In a view, I have <%= link_to "remove", :action = 'destroy', :id = myrecord %. But it never works in practice. Every time I press the remove link, it redirects me to the show view, showing the record's content. I am pretty sure that my destroy method is: def destroy @myobject = MyObject.find(params[:id]) @myobject.destroy @redirect_to :action = 'index' end If I change the method name from destroy to something like remove_me and change the action name to remove_me in the view, everything works as expected. In the above two wired problems, I am sure there is no tricky rountting set in my configuration. All in all, seems the destroy and delete are mysterious keywords in rails. Anyone can explain this to me? Thank you very much.

• Using AJAX to POST data to PHP database, then refresh

  Currently I have a button: <ul> <li><button onclick="display('1')">1</button></li> <li><button onclick="display('2')">2</button></li> <li><button onclick="display('3')">3</button></li> </ul> That when pressed, calls a javascript function, and displays PHP based on which button is pressed using AJAX. I figured this out all on my own. The AJAX gets a PHP file with a postgres query that outputs a table of data to a div. Now I want to be able to add, via form, new data and have it refresh (without reloading the page, yannknow?). I've tried a couple of things, and have hit roadblocks every time. My initial idea was to have the form submit the data using a javascript function and AJAX, then call my "display()" function after the query to reload the content. I just can't figure it out using GoogleFu. Based on my current idea, I'd like help with the following: How do I pass the form data to a javascript function. How do I use POST to pass that data to PHP using AJAX? I'm super new to javascript and AJAX. I've looked into jquery as it seems like that's the way to go, but I can't figure it out. If there's a better way to do this, I'm open to suggestions. Please forgive any misuse of nomenclature. EDIT: Once I solve this problem..., I'll have all the tools needed to finish the project preliminarily.

I'd like to attach this string to an html element, setting MIME type=application/vnd.ms-excel and have a prompt show up asking if I'd like to open or save the xls file. • Writing all the html of a document with jquery instead of in the page body?

  I'm a UI person currently working on a web application, where most of the people I work with are back end developers. I'm currently at a disagreement with them about whether or not the above is a prudent thing to do. This application doe use quite a bit of JavaScript, and wouldn't even work without it unfortunately. This being the case, One of the back end developers that I'm working with is claiming that pages could and even SHOULD be build completely with JavaScript or jquery. This caught me completely off guard. We're talking about div tags, lists, background images and text here. I'm trying to explain to him that this isn't the right way to do things at all, and from a best practices perspective: content(html) should be separate from presentation(css), and behavior(script etc.). I know that it's possible to write html in jquery, although I haven't done it, but am I wrong in my thinking that this isn't the way things should be done. Is it even possible to write ALL the code with jquery? would love to hear any thoughts either way, as I will be discussing this with him again tomorrow.

• Core Data to-many relationship in code

  I have three entities: Session, User and Test. A session has 0-many users and a user can perform 0-6 tests. (I say 0 but in the real application always at least 1 is required, at least 1 user for a session and at least 1 test for a user. But I say 0 to express an empty start.) All entities have their own specific data attributes too. A user has a name, A session has a name, a test has six values to be filled in by the user, and so on. But my issue is with the relationships. How do I set multiple users and have them added to one session (same goes for multiple tests for one user). How do I show the content in a right way? How do I show a session that has multiple users and these users having completed multiple tests? • How many hours a day (of the standard 8) do you actually work? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: How much do you [really] work a day When I started working (not so long ago), I was very conscientious about really working. If I didn't work for 10 minutes at a time, I felt like I was cheating. But as I started to look around me, I realized that I was the only one... and most of my coworkers were spending a big percentage of their time browsing the internet or playing solitaire. I started to slack off a little more than usual... while still basically getting all my work done. But while I do all that's required of me, and usually quickly, I no longer beg for work to fill up my spare time; I'm content to do what I'm told and play around when no one makes sure I'm busy enough. Which means that I'm often bored and underutilized. (Which I was even when I begged for work - people are pretty laid back about the workload and don't seem to realize how much I can get done if pushed to the fullest.) But I was just talking to a friend who graduated with me and also recently started working... and she came to me with the same concerns about slacking. She's working remotely, which means there are often gaps in communication when she can't really get anything done... And she's feeling guilty about it. Which made me rethink the whole thing... So, as workers, how many hours, out of the 8 standard average, are you actually working (honestly)? And, as bosses, how many hours do you expect your workers to work? And from an ethical standpoint, how much free time, or space out time, can workers have during the day without being considered to be "cheating" their office of labor and money?

• Removing index.php on MAMP

  this questions was asked before and has had many responses. The problem is nothing i tried worked. Background: i use MAMP and all of my web project are located under WebProjects which I relocated out of its standard location within the MAMP folder in Applications. so my structure is something like this: Documents/WebProjects/GreatSite/Application/... What happened so far: my understanding is that removing index.php can be done either through httpd.conf or .htaccess. anytime i touched httpd.conf, Apache refuses to start. I tried various edits to .htaccess including the one in codeigniter.com/wiki/mod-rewrite and the last one from a post on SO which is this: RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /index.php?/$1 [L] this give me the following error when i access the site: An Error Was Encountered Unable to determine what should be displayed. A default route has not been specified in the routing file. I have updated config.php to have $config['index_page'] = ''; and i have placed the .htaccess file in the GreatSite folder. One other note, my CI system folder is up a level from GreatSite. Not sure if this has any impact. also, apache has the module loaded. so, I'm hoping someone has successfully done this on MAMP and could provide direction specifically around the content of their .htaccess (or even httpd.conf), it's location and any other mods they had to make to get this going. thanks

• Sliding div in jquery

  I am trying to make a toolbar type section on the top of my site. I just need one div that will be hidden by default, and a button that will be hanging off the bottom of that div. When it is clicked, the div should slide down (with the button still on bottom). And upon clicking, it should slide back up. Here is what I currently have: <div id="account_toolbar" style="background-color:#fff;"> <div id="toolbar_contents" style="display:none;"> This is the account toolbar so far </div> <div id="button" style="background-color: #ff0000;"><%= image_tag "templates/_global/my_account.png", :id => "my_account_btn", :style => "float: right; margin-right: 100px;" %></div> </div> The image tag is using ruby/rails syntax, so pay no attention to that. It will render like any other image tag. Here is the jquery i'm using: $('#my_account_btn').click(function () { $('#toolbar_contents').slideToggle(); }); So, this is actually working for the most part. My problem however is that the spacing where the toolbar content div goes, pushes the account button down. When it slides up or down it temporarily attaches itself to the bottom of the div, then jumps back down once it is finished sliding (leaving a gap between the bottom of the hidden div and the top of the account button).   This is my very first php code and I can't seem to get it to work. (I'm using Eclipse) <html> <body> <?php echo 'Hello World!'; $txt = "I <3 you!"; $num = 19; ?> </html> </body> When I run it (http://localhost/Assignment3.0/index.php), I get: Not Found The requested URL /Assignment3.0/index.php was not found on this server. Apache/2.2.22 (Ubuntu) Server at localhost Port 80 But when I run this (http://localhost/), I get: It works! This is the default web page for this server. The web server software is running but no content has been added, yet. So what could be the problem? Where's my "Hello World!"? Also, for Stackoverflow formatting, how do I start a new line w/o adding a blank line in between?

• Retrieving the first picture with a HTML parser

  Hey guys, (Not a native english speaker) I'm doing a personal project in PHP in which I use the Simple HTML Parser to parse the HTML of a given URL and retrieve the first image in a DIV that have a specific ID or class (maincontent, content, main, wrapper, etc. - it's all in an array) and ignore ads. The goal is to take this image and make a thumbnail with it, pretty much like on Digg and others. I thought everything was working fine until I tried my script with the website Snopes ("http://www.snopes.com/photos/animals/luckycoyote.asp" <- this page more exactly). The source of the first image it gets is: " graphics/luckycoyote1.jpg ". So far, to correct this problem I created a little function that gets the domain name of the given URL and insert it before the IMG's source attribute. So for sites like Snopes.com, it gives me: "http://www.snopes.com/graphics/luckycoyote1.jpg" ... while the real URL for this image is "http://www.snopes.com*/photos/animals/graphics/luckycoyote1.jpg*" (or, more precisely: " http://graphics1.snopes.com/photos/animals/graphics/luckycoyote1.jpg " - note the subdomain here). So my main question is: how can I externally/dynamically retrieve the full URL address of an image ("absolute path") when I am only given the "relative path"? I'm pretty sure this is possible, since when I paste the link in Facebook's "What are you doing?" field for example, it gives me the correct path to the image while on the website, the source of the image is only (example) "image/photo/example.jpg". • PHP SDK Requires two logins...doesn't recognize first

  I am using the following code to authenticate whether users are logged in or not. While users can log in, they have to click the login button twice. Additionally, sometimes even after they click the log-in button twice, my "user info" part of the page (earlier in the page than the content) shows them as logged out while the actual page shows them as logged in. There is output before and after my calls to header() and setcookie() functions - this is necessary since the homepage includes a php file which then injects the right login or logout form. I've heard about using ob_start() at the beginning of content, but that's not a very specific instruction...I tried placing it at the beginning of homepage.php (just before the html tag) and that didn't fix anything. I'm new to PHP (a few days in, and new to web-app dev in general). To be honest, it blows my mind that I can't just change which page I am on, via php without bending over backwards...

• Strangest LINQ to SQL case I have ever seen

  OK, so this is the strangest issue in .net programming I have ever seen. It seems that object fields are serialized in .net web services in order of field initialization. It all started with Flex not accepting SOAP response from .net web service. I have found out that it was due to the order of serialized fields was statisfying the order of fields in declared serializable class. It had something to do with generic lists and LINQ to SQL but I can't find out what. This one is really hard to reproduce. Example to get the idea: [Serializable] public class SomeSample { public int A; public int B; public int C; } I was querying some data tables within asmx web service using linq and returning list of SomeSample objects: var r = (from ...... select new SomeSample { A = 1, C = 3 }).ToList(); Now the list was once more iterated and B field was applied some value (ex. 2). However the returned soap envelope contained following excerpt: <A>1</A><C>3</C><B>2</B> Please notice the order of serialization. If I initially initialized all fields: var r = (from ...... select new SomeSample { A = 1, B = 2, C = 3 }).ToList(); object was serialized in correct order. I must add, that in both cases the debugger shows exactly the same content of "r" variable. Am I losing my mind or is this normal behavior? Thanks in advance.

  I’ve read the manual on URI routing and views and something is not clicking with me. In my views folder, I have a subfolder called products. In there is a file called product_view. In my controller, I have: function index() { $data['title'] = 'Product Overview'; $data['main_content'] = 'products/product_view'; $this->load->view('templates/main.php', $data); } The template loads a header view, a footer view and a navigation view, plus the view as a main content variable. In my URI routing, I have: $route['products/product-overview'] = 'products/product_view']; This causes a 404 error when I try to go to domain.com/products/product-overview. Do I need to do something with my .htaccess? If so, what? Here is my .htaccess: Options +FollowSymLinks Options -Indexes DirectoryIndex index.php RewriteEngine on RewriteCond $1 !^(index\.php|resources|images|css|js|robots\.txt|favicon\.ico) RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?/$1 [L,QSA] I’d appreciate some specific help, as the documentation isn’t specific on how to address this. I’ve done a little searching in the forums, and didn’t see anything, but I’m posting this while I keep looking.

  I have this POGO ( simple putter getter) class that I am trying to read in PowerShell using System; using System.Runtime.Serialization; namespace MyApp.VM { [Serializable] public class MyClassVM { public Int64 CtrId { get; set; } public string CtrName { get; set; } public string CtrPhone { get; set; } public string CtrZip { get; set; } public DateTime AddDate { get; set; } } } Here is the ps1 code that is trying to read the class from a file. function Build-Pogo { $FileDir = "D:\YourDirectoryOfPogo" $ClassName = "MyClassVM" $FileName = $FileDir + "\" + $ClassName + ".cs" # Build the class from the file $AllLines = [string]::join([environment]::newline, (Get-Content $FileName)) Add-Type -TypeDefinition $AllLines # spin thru each property for class $ClassHandle = New-Object -typeName $ClassName $ClassHandle | ForEach-Object {Write-Host $_.name -foregroundcolor cyan} } *Note the last line is placeholder for more complex logic to come later. This breaks at the Add-Type with this error message for each get/set in the file. 'MyApp.VM.MyClassVM.CtrId.get' must declare a body because it is not marked abstract or extern Any info on what I'm doing wrong will be greatly appreciated.
