• Java runs out of memory, even though I give it plenty!

  Hey, folks. So, I'm running a java server (specifically Winstone: http://winstone.sourceforge.net/ ) Like this: java -server -Xmx12288M -jar /usr/share/java/winstone-0.9.10.jar --useSavedSessions=false --webappsDir=/var/servlets --commonLibFolder=/usr/share/java This has worked fine in the past, but now it needs to load a bunch more stuff into memory than it has before. The odd part is that, according to 'top', it has 15.0g of VIRT(ual memory) and it's RES(ident set) is 8.4g. Once it hits 8.4g, the CPU hangs at 100% (even though it's loading from disk), and eventually, I get Java's OutOfMemoryError. Presumably, the CPU hanging at 100% is Java doing garbage collection. So, my question is, what gives? I gave it 12 gigs of memory! And it's only using 8.2 gigs before it throws in the towel. What am I doing wrong? Oh, and I'm using java version "1.6.0_07" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_07-b06) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 10.0-b23, mixed mode) on Linux. Thanks, Matt

  I am tasked to integrate a CF code(about 70 lines) into our site then configure it to communicate to another site's server. However, our hosting site is just a typical server without CF support. Will the code run? All I know is that CF is Adobe's version of PHP and ASP. I have no experience coding it. Could you please enlighten me? From what I gathered from the internet, you have to have a CF server in order to run a CF code but the resources seem scarce. I just need someone knowledgeable to verify...

  Hello, when I try to connect my server throw connector/net using ssl with pfx certificate I had problem with establishing the connection. I get connection timeout. And the server probably fall down (I dont know it for sure, becouse I dont manage the server). On the Windows XP works all right, but on Windows 7 dont. Please, where is problem? In Windows 7 or on the server (mysql 5.0)? Sometimes I get "Calling interface SSPI Failed" error, but not everytime. Sometimes is only connection timeout error. Thank you a lot for any help.   Hey, I'm having trouble with a custom control and adding it dynamically using JQuery. I've got the following code: $('.custom_control_div').replaceWith( "<div><cc:mycustomcontrol id='cControl' ></cc:mycustomcontrol></div>" ); This doesn't throw any errors, but doesn't work because I need to use runat=server in my custom control. However, if I add runat=server in the code above, no javascript is executed on the page (and jqueryUI no longer works). The custom control works fine when I add it directly to the page from design-time. Is there a way to add a control, with runat=server using Jquery? Thanks

  I am a newbie programmer, so I will need your help! Locally the webapp works ok with the db on it! When I uploaded the application on the cloudcontrol, it comes up with the following error: CDbConnection failed to open the DB connection: SQLSTATE[HY000] [2002] Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)! I suppose I have not uploaded the db. This is the very first time I upload a webapp on a server so I do not know the exact steps that I have to follow in order to upload the db on a server. Cloudcontrol has documentation about mysql! I did follow the steps but the webapp comes with the same error! Could you please tell me what steps I have to follow in order to make it working? I am sure that this error is due to lack of knowledge!

  In a system that I'm building I want to serve Static files (static HTML pages and a lot of images), and Dynamic XML generated by my servlet. The dynamic XML is generated from my database (through Hibernate) and I use Restlets to serve it in response to API calls. I want to create a static file server (e.g. Apache) so that this does not interfere with the dynamic server traffic. Currently both servers need to run on the same machine. I've never done something like this before and this is where I'm stuck: The static HTML pages contain JavaScript that makes API calls to the dynamic server. However, since the two servers operate on different ports, I get stuck with the same origin problem. How can this be solved? As a bonus, if you can point me to any resources that explain how to create such a static/dynamic content serving system, I'll be happy. Thanks!

• Moving Webdav app from Win server 2k to Win server 2k3 now getting authentication issues.

  I have an intranet web app that uses CSS httpFolder to map a webdav folder to an IFrame on a web page. The user then can drop files in the frame and the page processes them when the user presses the button. This works well on a Win 2k SP4 server running IIS 5. I have moved the app over to a Win 2k3 server running IIS 6. I have made sure the WebDAV extensions are allowed. I have set everything else in IIS to match the original installation on the old server. But when I try to access the WebDAV folder I am repeatedly prompted for my login credentials. I use my domain admin login but even that doesn't work. What am I missing? What differences are there between WebDAV on 2k vs 2k3? TIA John

  I am running an application server on Linux 64bit with 8 core CPUs and 6 GB memory. The server must be highly responsive. After some inspection I found that the application running on the server creates rather a huge amount of short-lived objects, and has only about 200~400 MB long-lived objects(as long as there is no memory leak) After reading http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/hotspot/gc/gc_tuning_6.html I use these JVM options -Xms2g -Xmx2g -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -XX:NewRatio=1 -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC Result: the minor GC takes 0.01 ~ 0.02 sec, the major GC takes 1 ~ 3 sec the minor GC happens constantly. How can I further improve or tune the JVM? larger heap size? but will it take more time for GC? larger NewSize and MaxNewSize (for young generation)? other collector? parallel GC? is it a good idea to let major GC take place more often? and how?

  Hey, I'm using MonoRail and was wondering how it decides when to use client-side vs. server-side validation? In my model class I have [ValidateNonEmpty] on two properties, one is a textbox, the other is a dropdown. The textbox triggers client-side validation on form submission, if I leave the dropdown empty though it posts back to the server and returns back the validation error from server-side. Is there a way to get the dropdown to trigger client-side validation? Also it's odd because after the postback, it clears what I had entered in the dropdown but maintains the state of the textbox (viewstate anyone??) Thanks, Justin

• psqlODBC won't load after installing MS SQL ODBC driver on RHEL 6

  I had the PostgreSQL drivers working on my RHEL 6. But after I installed Microsoft® SQL Server® ODBC Driver 1.0 for Linux I can no longer connect to PosgreSQL data sources. I can connect to SQL Server data sources fine. When I had this same issue a week ago I uninstalled MS SQL Server ODBC driver from Linux and it fixed the issue. I had to copy the psqlodbcw.so files from another machine to replenish the files. I don't want to do the same this time. I want both drivers to work on Linux. This time around the setup files got deleted: /usr/lib64/libodbcpsqlS.so. Replenishing it did not fix the issue.
