• A lots of Apache processes are using my CPU uses always more than 70%

  I am running a plesk panel in 1and1. I have 120 sites running and all are using pligg cms, each site has 600 visitors per day. Please see the details of my server below: HDD-1000GB RAM-16GB Processor-6 Core I always see a lot of apache processes running in my # top view, so the server seems overloaded. If I can reduce the amount apache processes I think the server will be ok. But I don't know why too many apache processes are running. Please see the link below for the screenshot of my # top view: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/26967109/%23Top-2.jpg Sometimes I saw too many connection error in my plesk control panel, so I added the below line in my [mysqld] section: set-variable=max_connections=416 But I didn't find a solution yet. I have also added maxclients and serverlimit 416 in the config /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf But no solution yet. I am researching around more than 7 days but don't get any solution. Please help me to solve the problem. In peak hours my sites are taking too much time to load, but off-peak hour it is ok. Please help me to find out the actual problem.

• Windows VPN always disconnects after < 3 minutes, only from my network

  First, this problem has existed for almost two years. Until serverfault was born, I pretty much gave up on solving it - but now, hope is reborn! I've set up a Windows 2003 server as a domain controller and VPN server at a remote office. I am able to connect to and work over the VPN from every windows client I've tried, including XP, Vista, and Windows 7 without issue, from at least five different networks (corporate and home, domain and non.) It works fine from all of them. However, whenever I connect from clients on my home network, the connection drops (silently) after 3 minutes or less. After a short while, it will eventually tell me the connection has dropped and attempt to redial/reconnect (if I've configured the client that way.) If I reconnect, the connection will re-establish and appear to work correctly, but again will silently drop, this time after a seemingly shorter time period. These are not intermittent drops. It happens every single time, in exactly the same way. The only variable is how long the connection survives. It doesn't matter what type of traffic I send. I can sit idle, send continuous pings, RDP, transfer files, all of that at once - it makes no difference. The result is always the same. Connected for a few minutes, then silent death. Since I doubt anyone has experienced this exact situation, what steps can I take to troubleshoot my evanescing VPN?

• CPU usage always below 10% in windows server 2008 r2 x64

  I am using a server with windows server 2008 r2 running on it to run my program. The CPU of the server is Intel xeon x5570 2.93GHz with 2 processors, 8 cores per processer. However, I found that the cpu usage is almost always below 10% even I use 32 threads in my program. And I also found that sometimes the cpu usage could reach as high as 93% through the task manager when running my program and at that moment my program has processed over 1000 files per second while normally, it only processed over 50 files per second. However, this does not happen often. I use tools downloaded from the internet to make sure no core sleeps when the server is on, nothing changed. Also, I edited the windows register to make sure that I, as an administer, have no cpu usage limit. But it changed nothing. Is there anyway that I can make full use of my cpu? That is to say that each core runs a thread of my program and the total cpu usage could reach over 50% when I use a reasonable number of threads in my program. Did this happen to anyone of you? And could you help me with this ? Thank you!

• My system is always disk-bound (the disk light is always on). Why is this?

  I have been given a laptop by the good folks at my company on which to do my work (Java development). I usually use eclipse as my primary development platform. The laptop is a Dell D830 and runs Windows 7 - 32 bit. Although the processor supports a 64 bit instruction-set, licensing limits me to running the 32 bit OS. The HDD is a WD1600BEVT (Western Digital). I have noticed that my disk is always very slow. Windows start up is usually pretty quick, however as soon as I log on, my disk light stays on and usually, the laptop takes about 4 minutes (after logging in -- immediately upon getting the prompt to press Ctrl + Alt + Del to log in) before it's usable. Questions: Is this expected behavior? What can I do to examine the disk and determine the cause of the problem? What can I do to improve my disk's performance? Any optimizations you may be able to suggest? Other Questions: Some have suggested running Process Monitor (from sysinternals), but how would i get the log since start up? Instead of trying to fix this myself, should I simply push this onto the system administrator? Thanks all.

• Why is the installation of certain programs always such a pain in Linux [closed]

  I am new to Linux and I am trying to set up a server. For this I sometimes to need to install special software, but the installation of this is always such a pain. For example I wanted to try the htscanner to see if it did the job for me. When i got to the page there is NO INSTALLATION guide. I had to search for the right one on google. Even on google its a pain to find the right method. Just try it - google search.After a long search and tried different things I finally found out that I had te install some more software before it will work. The website says that the version I used did not had any dependencies. Thats a lie. Release0.8.1: No dependencies registered. You do need certain things for it to work. After managing to set it up it still didn't work I can't figure out why because there is no official guide on the website. So I wanted to just uninstall it and find a better solution. Uninstalling. Uninstalling something in Linux is a real mystery how this actually works. The best answer I got is to manually look for the files and delete them. Whats up with that! There is never something said about uninstalling on the websites. Even on the website of CentOS itself it tels you how to install something like rpmforge packages (it's a miracle they tell you and not have to google it) but there is no mention of what to do when you want to uninstall. Why not? The forums you get on when trying to solve your problem are most of the time in plain text, and you have to scroll trough huge error logs before you see somethings that vaguely resembles your question if you are lucky. The Question My question is if there are any recommended websites / forums that explain the basic concepts of installing and uninstalling software on Linux. And explain other useful operations. And not Wikipedia or the first hits of Google, I have been there already. I am looking for some easy to read trough guides on these operations on Linux. I have been on a lot of websites that explain some Linux operation, but I bet its easier to get a degree in rocket science than to read trough the website and understand what they try to say.

  My service for World Wide Web Publishing Service started successfully but whenever I browse to http://localhost/ I always get 502 Unknown host.   I am using InnoDB for a MySQL table, and obviously queries using LIKE and RLIKE/REGEXP can take a lot of time. I've tried Spinx, and it works great, except I have to re-index context at intervals. I can re-index every minute, but I am wondering if there is either 1) a setting in Sphinx to keep records always indexed or 2) other software besides Sphinx that will keep records always indexed. I want it where that immediately upon inserting or updating a record, the index is updated.

• Store Observer not being called always

  Has anyone else here experienced problems with their Store Observer class not being called always when the user for instance cancels a request (or purchases something) We just had our update that brought in app purchases go live last night, and before that we had obviously tested everything tons of times against the Sandbox and everything was working fine. Now however, when the update went live in a real environment we keep getting issues with the store. For instance, in a freshly booted iPhone / iPod, the first time you run the app, if you then try to make a purchase and then immediately cancel it from the first dialog, it seems as if the callback for the cancel is not getting called. If you then restart the app it seems as if it always works after that, or at least. Same thing with other callbacks, seems as if our store observer isn't listening as the callbacks aren't being registered on the phone. One example of this is if you purchase something, then nothing will happen (if this is the first time the app is launched at least). You get the purchase successful dialog from the app store but it seems as if our own code isn't called. If you then quit the app and restart it the callback gets called. Same problem happens if you for instance try to start a request to download all previous purchases and then immediately cancel it as the first dialog pops up, if you do that then the callback for a failed restore is not called, until you then restart the app and try it again, then it always seems to work. The way we have implemented our store observer is by creating a custom class that's implements the SKPaymentTransactionObserver interface. @interface StoreObserver : NSObject<SKPaymentTransactionObserver> In the class we have implemented the following methods: - (void)paymentQueue:(SKPaymentQueue *)queue updatedTransactions:(NSArray *)transactions - (void)paymentQueueRestoreCompletedTransactionsFinished:(SKPaymentQueue *)queue - (void)paymentQueue:(SKPaymentQueue *)queue restoreCompletedTransactionsFailedWithError:(NSError *)error The way our restore process works is that if you tap on the button that allows you to download all we simply run the restoreCompletedTransactions code as follows: [[SKPaymentQueue defaultQueue] restoreCompletedTransactions]; However, the callback, restoreCompletedTransactionsFailedWithError, which has been implemented in the store observer, does not always get called when we try to cancel the request. This happens when you boot the iPhone / iPod and try this for the first time. If you after that restart the app everything works fine. The StoreObserver class is created when our app is launched, just by running the following code: pStoreObserver = [[StoreObserver alloc] init]; [[SKPaymentQueue defaultQueue] addTransactionObserver:pStoreObserver]; Has anyone else had any similar experiences? Or does anyone have any suggestions on how to solve this? As I said, in the sandbox environment everything was working fine, no issues whatsoever, but now once it's gone live we're experiencing these.

I need to read from that file, and I read that if you put the files in WEB-INF, you can access them with getResourceAsStream, yet the method is always returning a null. Any ideas of what I may be doing wrong?

• Windows 7 explorer always crashes, opens small "Personalized Settings" window

  My Windows 7 desktop PC, built by me, started acting very weird in the last couple of days. I use it quite often, about half of the time through TeamViewer. Explorer would crash and restart randomly, almost always through TeamViewer. This made me suspect that TeamViewer was the problem but I have reproduced it with and without TeamViewer several times. The only way I can seem to get the problem not to occur is by booting into Safe Mode. I have used CCleaner and Malwarebytes to make sure it wasn't a registry error or malware causing the problem, and I have tried the fix in the seemly related issue here as well every other fix I have found online including removing security updates KB980408 and KB2926765 as well as using "sfc /scannow" and a bunch of other things I can't remember. More recently when I try to start explorer it is popping up a small window that says "Personalized Settings" on the top, but is completely empty and crashes instantly. The only way I can get it to disappear is to kill the explorer.exe process. I wish I could take a screenshot but I can't seem to open paint or even find the exe. I have tried restarting it, I have tried starting it while the personalized settings window was open. I have come up with two lists of processes the first is the list of active processes when I boot into safe mode and explorer seems to work fine. The second is the list of processes that I can narrow it down to in normal boot and still replicate the problem. There is one process that I can't seem to close. NisSrv.exe which is describes as "Microsoft Network Realtime Inspection Service". When I try to close the process NisSrv.exe it says "The operation could not be completed. Access is denied." When I try to close the related service it gives the same message. Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected. My explorer tab in Autoruns seen below along with the error when I try to uncheck something. I should add that I seem to be able to disable shell extensions with ShellExView but I still can't get explorer to start correctly. EXPLORER SHELL UPDATE - See screenshot below I can access the explorer right click menu through a file manager I downloaded called NexusFile, but still no luck starting explorer. Another round of errors that I am getting regarding Windows Search Service The search service has detected corrupted data files in the index {id=4700}. The service will attempt to automatically correct this problem by rebuilding the index. Details: The content index catalog is corrupt. • zend_captcha always fails isValid()

  Hi, I've got an issue with Zend_Captcha always returning false when the page is submitted and the captcha's isValid() method is being called. It's driving my nuts because this as far as I am concerned should work. Even though I change "Google.com in English", still same... The only way is to open google.com website first, then do search in it. So the question - is there any way to force Chrome to search in Google.com instead of google.co.kr? I understand there is some geolocational checking/redirecting, but there must be some way to force...

• Apache2 with SSL and mod_jk on SUSE Linux Enterprise | Apache always starts SSL disabled

  I have installed Apache2 (with mod_ssl enabled) on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 (x86_64) (patchlevel 1), using YaST. Once installed, I tested whether everything works fine so far. SSL also worked fine. Just 'apache2ctl start' was enough to make everything working. When checked with telnet, I observed that port 443 is not open. In listen.conf, if I specify port 443 bypassing 'IfDefine' and 'IfModule' conditions, then SSL works properly. This is likely the 'SSL' flag is not passed to Apache. I did not make this a persistent change as I thought it might not be the correct practice. I checked /etc/sysconfig/apache2 to see if this has been altered, but it is there. Although this flag is enabled, Apache won't start with SSL support. APACHE_SERVER_FLAGS="SSL" Finally, I had to start Apache using the following command, apache2ctl -D SSL -k start And my question is, why did Apache (or apache2ctl) fail to start with SSL when I have installed and correctly configured mod_jk, and no other configuration changes were applied? • Apache2 name based virtual host always redirect 301

  I've got a server (runnging Debian Squeeze) with Apache 2.2, there are 4 site running there. I'm using namebased virtulhosts because I've got a single IP. Initial configuration has been made with Webmin and probably something has been messed up.. firstdomain.com is my default domain and is working correctly, seconddomain.com is another site that is working. Now I want to add lastdomain.tk as a new site, so I've made this config file: root@webamp:/etc/apache2# cat sites-available/lastdomain.tk.conf <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /home/server/Condivisione/RAID/lastdomain.tk ServerName www.alazanes.tk ServerAlias alazanes.tk </VirtualHost> I've added it to enabled-sites and restarted apache. The problem is that if I go to lastdomain.tk (or www.lastdomain.tk) I'm redirected to firstdomain.com with a 301 redirect. Both lastdomain.tk and www.lastdomain.tk are A DNS records pointing to my IP address. • Pycharm and Webstorm always on top unless minimized

  I'm running Windows 7. I have the following problem in both Webstorm 7 and Pycharm 3. I haven't found this problem in any other programs. I have not found any clues as to a solution on Google or in the settings of either program. When I run the programs not maximized and I click any other window to switch focus, the Webstorm (or Pycharm) window flashes, appearing to lose focus for a split second before, and it stays on top. This blocks any other window behind it from having focus, and is quite annoying.

  Every since I upgraded all my linux-vserver Debian guests from Lenny to Squeeze I've the apparent problem that whenever I want to use sudo it asks me for my password. Every time. I've configured sudo to have a timeout of 30 minutes: Defaults timestamp_timeout=30 . This has been configured when it was still Lenny (note: as suggested by EightBitTony I've also tried without this setting - no change). I've a hard time figuring out what the problem here is, since I think my configuration is right. I thought about it being a problem with the file used to record the timestamp, maybe a permission issue, but was unlucky to find any hard evidence. I've compared the contents of /var/lib/sudo/ between a working and a non-working system but couldn't spot any difference. The version of sudo used in both environments is 1.7.4p4-2.squeeze.3. • Always a path to the internet even in Windows SBS is off

  Hello all, is it possible to have a configuration in a Windows 2003 SBS environment where in the event that the SBS box crashed/turned off/ or is being worked on that there can still exist a path to the internet for domain users and visitors to still use? I would like to have the standalone router issue DHCP IPs. The primary DNS would point to the SBS, the secondary wouuld point to the ISP DNS Server. My theory was that if someone was using the internet and the SBS box went down they wouldn't be able to access the network shares but still be able to use the internet. (We are moving everything into the clouds with Google Apps Non-Profit) Does this seem like a reasonable configuration? Or are they're pitfalls that I will fall into? Thanks Mark

  I recently got some malware on a machine that I don't use for much (partly intentional). I've cleaned it, but now everytime I open any .exe the 'Run As' dialog pops up asking me which user I want to use to run the program. What causes this, and what's the fix for it? edit My process to remove the malware was as such: Disconnected from the network Deleted DisableTaskMgr reg key Inspected with Process Explorer and Task Manager and noticed that all applications were being run within another executable located in Documents and Settings...\Temp\Some.exe The system tray application was also in Documents and Settings...\Temp\SomeOther.exe I suspected that a service was in place as the system tray application would restart if it was killed, but couldn't find any service that I didn't recognize. Removed permissions from Some.exe and SomeOther.exe (on those files only) Restarted and deleted Some.exe and SomeOther.exe Deleted startup entries that were created Ran AVG Free and Windows Defender to remove anything else (they would be killed immediately before the two .exe's were removed) Cleaned registry via CCleaner note that system restores would finish saying something to the effect of 'couldn't restore system: there were no changes made'. I attempted to restore to a week ago, and I only got the malware yesterday.
