• Audio and video streaming using Network Simulator in Linux

  I am working on a project which is to show the simulation of streaming of audio and video data in wireless networks. I want to show the simulation that involves a base station, with few wireless stations. The base station should start sending data once it computes a certain value . On receiving the data, each wireless must begin communicating with the base station. I have gone through basic NS-2 tutorials from over here but I am not getting how to go about integrating it with my project. Can anyone tell me how to do it using NS2 or any other network simulator?

  I find it really annoying that for some radio stations, which have two or more servers to cope with the network load, there is not one single entry in amaroks playlist but two or more entries. This makes it hard to pick the radio station from the list I like to listen to because all the entries are always shown with the last played track as name, and even if I only have a few radio stations in my list there will eventually be many different entries. And, if I use the keyboard shortcuts to navigate the playlist I always have to remember that radio station X has for example four entries in the playlist, so I have to press the shortcut for switching tracks four times to actually switch the to the next station. Now, ideally I would like some solution for amarok, but if someone knows of another media player that does this or something I would appreciate that information as well.

I need to navigate through station names in listview, using previous, next buttons click. • Listen to Online Radio with Antenna

  Are you looking for some fresh new music to listen to at home or at work? With Antenna you can listen to online radio stations from all over the world. Note: Requires Adobe AIR (download link at bottom of article). Antenna in Action Once you have completed the installation and started Antenna up this is the window that you will see. The left side will have a “browsing pane” where you can search for the stations that you would like to listen to using the various categories. Based on the stations that you choose the background map will change location to match the stations locations. Here is a closer look at the “Categories Bar”. For our first example we used the “Country Category” to find our first station to listen to. When you choose a country you will be presented with a list of the stations available for that country. To start listening to a particular station just double click on the appropriate entry line. A closer look at the “browser pane” with our first station playing. Notice the “Reliability Indicator” that will be available for each listing…some may be better than others and you can use this to choose the best streaming stations from the list. In the upper left corner you will notice three icons…each will open a small pop-up window with a specific purpose. The first icon will open up the “About Window”. If you need to contact Antenna’s creator or would like to place a request for a station to be added to the app then this is the best way to do it. The second icon will open up a Antenna specific chat window. The third icon will allow you to set a default location and make adjustments to some of the app’s settings. Recording Audio The “Recording Function” is the only area where we experienced some “quirkiness” with the app. To start recording press the “Round White Button”… Note: Based on feedback on the app creator’s webpage some people have experienced the same problem as we did during our tests with the app failing to complete the recordings. Hopefully this bug will be fixed with the next release. Once recording has started the button will turn red. Click on the button again to stop recording. Once you have stopped recording you will see the following message window appear and the main window will be shaded over with a whitish color until you click “OK”. Conclusion Regardless of the slight quirkiness in recording online music Antenna more than makes up for it with the terrific selection of online stations and streaming capability. • 8 Things You Can Do In Android’s Developer Options

  The Developer Options menu in Android is a hidden menu with a variety of advanced options. These options are intended for developers, but many of them will be interesting to geeks. You’ll have to perform a secret handshake to enable the Developer Options menu in the Settings screen, as it’s hidden from Android users by default. Follow the simple steps to quickly enable Developer Options. Enable USB Debugging “USB debugging” sounds like an option only an Android developer would need, but it’s probably the most widely used hidden option in Android. USB debugging allows applications on your computer to interface with your Android phone over the USB connection. This is required for a variety of advanced tricks, including rooting an Android phone, unlocking it, installing a custom ROM, or even using a desktop program that captures screenshots of your Android device’s screen. You can also use ADB commands to push and pull files between your device and your computer or create and restore complete local backups of your Android device without rooting. USB debugging can be a security concern, as it gives computers you plug your device into access to your phone. You could plug your device into a malicious USB charging port, which would try to compromise you. That’s why Android forces you to agree to a prompt every time you plug your device into a new computer with USB debugging enabled. Set a Desktop Backup Password If you use the above ADB trick to create local backups of your Android device over USB, you can protect them with a password with the Set a desktop backup password option here. This password encrypts your backups to secure them, so you won’t be able to access them if you forget the password. Disable or Speed Up Animations When you move between apps and screens in Android, you’re spending some of that time looking at animations and waiting for them to go away. You can disable these animations entirely by changing the Window animation scale, Transition animation scale, and Animator duration scale options here. If you like animations but just wish they were faster, you can speed them up. On a fast phone or tablet, this can make switching between apps nearly instant. If you thought your Android phone was speedy before, just try disabling animations and you’ll be surprised how much faster it can seem. Force-Enable FXAA For OpenGL Games If you have a high-end phone or tablet with great graphics performance and you play 3D games on it, there’s a way to make those games look even better. Just go to the Developer Options screen and enable the Force 4x MSAA option. This will force Android to use 4x multisample anti-aliasing in OpenGL ES 2.0 games and other apps. This requires more graphics power and will probably drain your battery a bit faster, but it will improve image quality in some games. This is a bit like force-enabling antialiasing using the NVIDIA Control Panel on a Windows gaming PC. See How Bad Task Killers Are We’ve written before about how task killers are worse than useless on Android. If you use a task killer, you’re just slowing down your system by throwing out cached data and forcing Android to load apps from system storage whenever you open them again. Don’t believe us? Enable the Don’t keep activities option on the Developer options screen and Android will force-close every app you use as soon as you exit it. Enable this app and use your phone normally for a few minutes — you’ll see just how harmful throwing out all that cached data is and how much it will slow down your phone. Don’t actually use this option unless you want to see how bad it is! It will make your phone perform much more slowly — there’s a reason Google has hidden these options away from average users who might accidentally change them. Fake Your GPS Location The Allow mock locations option allows you to set fake GPS locations, tricking Android into thinking you’re at a location where you actually aren’t. Use this option along with an app like Fake GPS location and you can trick your Android device and the apps running on it into thinking you’re at locations where you actually aren’t. How would this be useful? Well, you could fake a GPS check-in at a location without actually going there or confuse your friends in a location-tracking app by seemingly teleporting around the world. Stay Awake While Charging You can use Android’s Daydream Mode to display certain apps while charging your device. If you want to force Android to display a standard Android app that hasn’t been designed for Daydream Mode, you can enable the Stay awake option here. Android will keep your device’s screen on while charging and won’t turn it off. It’s like Daydream Mode, but can support any app and allows users to interact with them. Show Always-On-Top CPU Usage You can view CPU usage data by toggling the Show CPU usage option to On. This information will appear on top of whatever app you’re using. If you’re a Linux user, the three numbers on top probably look familiar — they represent the system load average. From left to right, the numbers represent your system load over the last one, five, and fifteen minutes. This isn’t the kind of thing you’d want enabled most of the time, but it can save you from having to install third-party floating CPU apps if you want to see CPU usage information for some reason. Most of the other options here will only be useful to developers debugging their Android apps. You shouldn’t start changing options you don’t understand. If you want to undo any of these changes, you can quickly erase all your custom options by sliding the switch at the top of the screen to Off.

• SmS Gateways - How do other sites do it? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Send and Receive SMS from my Website I would love to have a feature on my site that sends Email reminders and SmS(text messages) to people mobile phones. I been searching around and all I am finding is api's that charge money per SmS message(as low as 1cent per message). However even at 1cent per message that is still too much. The amount of money I am charging per year could be servilely eroded by just the Sms messages along. I could of course charge more money for my service or have an add on for SmS messages but I don't think either would work as most people expect it to be free feature and if they have to pay anything that is because of their carrier charging them not the website. How do other sites do it? I guessing companies like google have their own gateway providers or something like that. But how about smaller sites what do they do? I can't see them paying per sms text message.

• Laptop battery sometimes does not charge?

  So on my Asus K56C laptop running Ubuntu 14.04 (was same problem in 13.10) I got a problem that from time to time after I use laptop without cable (just on battery) it stops charging with cable. I can still use laptop indefinitely on cable, but it's not charging. The only solution is to remove and reinsert the battery, then it will charge. Now I wonder how does laptop 'knows' that battery was reinserted, and is it possible to simulate that from Ubuntu, maybe some command which refreshes battery? P.s.: this is not happening on Windows 8.1.

• How does Azureus get my firewall to open a port (Debian Linux)?

  I downloaded Azureus (a bittorrent client) for Debian Linux, and I notice that Azureus got my firewall (a Verizon wireless base station) to open a TCP and UDP port forwarding for it, without my having to do anything. My base station is password protected, and I'm alarmed at the idea that any random application can open ports without my knowing about it. Can somebody explain to me what is going on and how it is possible that Azureus can create this port-forwarding rule without any authentication?

• How to Get Current Weather via Web Services

  I am attempting to get the current weather given a zip code or a set of latitude/longitude coordinates. It appears that best practice to do this (and how NOAA does it) is to get the XML feed for a weather station. Example: http://www.weather.gov/xml/current_obs/KEDW.xml The only problem is that NOAA doesn't provide a good way to find the closest weather station given a zip code or coordinates and I did not see any hosted web services out there that will provide this mapping. Does anyone know of any web services to get the nearest weather station given a zip code or coordinate input? If not, does anyone have any great solutions to look into that provide similar information as NOAA does but takes in a zip code or coordinates?

• Best usage for a laptop being used as a desktop without removable batteries

  After reading the information on http://batteryuniversity.com, I realize that one of the best ways to permanently damage a lithium ion battery is to use the battery at a high temperature while it's fully charged. This is exactly what happens when you use the computer as if it were a desktop computer, since leaving it plugged in will keep the battery at 100% and using the computer will heat up the battery. This is why it's recommend to remove the battery from your laptop if you are using it is this scenario. My question is what would you do if the laptop doesn't have removable batteries (e.g. a MacBook Pro)? Should I use some kind of charge cycle such as: charge to 80%, unplug the power chord, use the laptop until it reaches 20%, then repeat the cycle by charging to 80% again? If so, which values should I use instead of 80% and 20%? (I think charging to 80% is better than 100% because of the damage that a hot battery at 100% can do, but I just made the figure 80% up, and I'm sure there's a better number to strive for which is backed by science.) I've read many of the articles on batteryuniversity.com, but couldn't find anything pertaining to this. Update: What about doing something like charge (or discharge) it to 50%, then plug it in and turn on settings which use the battery as much as possible (e.g. brightness all the way up, wi-fi on, etc.), in order to try to maintain the battery at 50% (i.e. the rate it is charging is the same as it is discharging). This will probably heat up the battery, but would make it so you don't need to constantly plug and unplug the laptop. The one bad thing is that you are taking up more charge cycles which would decrease the battery life, thus I'm not sure this is a good idea.

  I own an Acer Aspire 3680. In the past 2 years, I have given, my laptop for service due to the same kind of problem. Last year at the same time, I gave my laptop to the service center. They repaired it and I managed to ask them this question: Why does this problem happen. How can I prevent it? They said, that due to voltage fluctuations, something has gone wrong in your laptop. They actually were hesistant in mentioning as to which part they changed/repaired. Now recently the same problem happened and again I gave it to a service center to get it repaired and they also said, this is caused due to voltage fluctuation. My Question is: Due to Voltage fluctuation which part of the laptop can get affected. How can I prevent this from happening. Laptop Symptoms before I gave to service: When I plug in the adapter for charging the Green Light blinks and the laptop doesn't turn on. Neither does the charging indicator indicates the light, while charging.

  I'm trying to sort out values from a database by the weekending date. The script I'm using functions on 6 of my 7 databases (they are all constructed identically). The 7th database doesn't function. I get the expression too complex error. any help figuring out why?? • Devoxx 2011 Trip Report + Pictures

  3350 attendees from 40 countries lived in "paradise" for 5 days last week. This paradise had 170+ rock star speakers delivering 200+ hours of technical content in about 150 sessions. And it truly was a paradise with a clear differentiation from other Java conferences. There were several Oracle speakers at the paradise covering the entire gamut of Java platform. I delivered a Java EE 6 hands-on lab (new content), showcased Java EE 7 and GlassFish 4.0 early work at the keynote, and participated in a panel to talk about Contexts and Dependency Injection. The demo in the keynote showed how to deploy a Java EE application in a managed environment. The demo showed a Conference Planner application that can be used by conference organizers to display sessions, tracks, and speaker information. This same application can be deployed and display data from JavaOne 2011 or Devoxx 2011 based upon the SQL chosen for database initialization. If javaone-sf-2011.sql is chosen for datbase initialization then the application looks like as shown: If devoxx-2011.sql is chosen then the application looks like as shown: And of course, clicking on Tracks, Speakers, Sessions shows you information from the respective conference. • can't control pianobar after using echo

  I have a script that starts pianobar (pandora player) and autoloads into tty2 after booting. I'm running Ubuntu Precise 12.04. it's a pretty simple script: #!bin/bash sleep 5 echo "2" | pianobar This works, it selects station 2 and begins playing... but when I try to type in commands it doesn't work (like pushing "p" for pause.) It'll show the letter for a second, then hide it. If I try to exit with ctrl+z it just sits there and I can't use it at all. If I run this it works fine but doesn't auto-select the second station: #!bin/bash sleep 5 pianobar Is there anyway to write this so it will automatically input "2" and then allow me to control from there? Or am I stuck with having to select 2 every time I boot up?

• How do I turn off WLAN automatically when LAN is connected?

  I use my Thinkpad laptop with a docking station. The docking station is connected to my router via LAN. When I walk around the house I use my laptop with WLAN. Is it possible (and how) to manage these devices with a script or something to work like this: If a LAN-Connection is up, the OS should turn off Wifi and if LAN-Connection gets lost (undocking) Wifi should turn on automatically. I use Ubuntu 11.04 64bit with Gnome 2. The system works on an Lenovo ThinkPad R500 with. WLAN-Device: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN [Shiloh] LAN-Device: Broadcom Corporation NetLink BCM5787M Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express (rev 02) Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

• Get IP or MAC addresses of Windows Multipoint Server 2012 stations?

  Is it possible to programmatically retrieve the IP or MAC address of a station assigned to a Windows MultiPoint Server 2012 host, using PowerShell or any other .NET or Windows API? Background: I'm developing a application to help set up USB-over-Ethernet zero clients in a WMS 2012 setup, bridging the PowerShell "WmsCmdlets" module (Microsoft.WindowsServerSolutions.MultipointServer.PowerShell.Commands.Library.WmsStation) and a third-party vendor API for configuring zero client IP address, etc. So far, I do not know any means of matching up the "stations" of the WmsCmdlets with the zero client objects in the vendor's API. Finding out the IP or MAC associated with a WMS station would do nicely, since I have this on the zero client API side. • Torrent upload ratio not updated on Synology DS212+

  I have a Synology DS212+ NAS running DSM 4.2-3211 (current version). I use it for several purposes including torrent download using Download Station and a tracker that needs authentication. My problem is that my download/upload ratio isn't updated, so it constantly falls down. My NAS is behind a router, and I configured the NAT to forward ports 6890 to 6999 to the internal IP address of the NAS. Here are the Download Station settings : TCP port : 6990, Sharing ratio : 900%, Sharing time : infinite, max download speed : 0 (no limit), max upload speed : 0 (no limit), BT protocol encryption : checked, max numbers of peers allowed by torrent file : 4000, DHT : checked, with port 6889. When the DHT option is not checked, the NAS doesn't upload any files. I don't know what is this option for. Can someone help me to solve this problem ? Did I miss any step, or does it come from the NAT ? How is the authentication managed by Dowload Station ? (Sorry for my english) Thanks.

• How can I filter a report with duplicate fields in related records?

  I have a report where I need to filter out records where there is a duplicate contract number within the same station but a different date. It is not considered a duplicate value becuase of the different date. I then need to summarize the costs and count the contracts but even if i suppress the "duplicate fields" it will summarize the value. I want to select the record with the most current date.
