    Currently, most of the popular websites, like google, yahoo detect if the user connection speed is slow and then give a option to load basic version of the website instead of the high end one. What are the methods available to detect slow internet connections? P.S. I think this is achieved through javascript, so I will tag it as a javascript question? However, I am looking for answers oriented more towards PHP, if this is also server related.

  • Auto-detect proxy settings on network

    I am having problems trying to run web browser software on the local network through the proxy. When running off the profile drive which is on a network share, the system is unable to auto-detect proxy settings. When running off the local C drive, the browsers are able to correctly autodetect the settings. The error from the browser is about it being unable to fetch the proxy configuration file. Is this some form of authentication preventing it retreiving the settings when running of the network location? PS. Would this be better off on superuser?

  • Rsync backup - detect new directory and backup only from that directory

    New cpanel daily backup is creating separate directories for daily backup. This creates problem when I try to user rsync to do an offsite backup since I would like to rsync only latest data. E.g. On backup server I have directory "backup" and on server, from which we are pulling backups I get directories 2013-11-07, 2013-11-08 etc in backup directory. If I backup /backup directory on the server it will use allot more space so I would like to backup only latest directory in backup directory, eg 2013-11-08. Is there a way to detect latest directory in backup directory and pass that directory name to rsync for backup ?

    Monit is configured to watch MySQL on localhost at port 3306. check process mysqld with pidfile /var/lib/mysql/li175-241.pid start program = "/etc/init.d/mysql start" stop program = "/etc/init.d/mysql stop" if failed port 3306 protocol mysql then restart if 5 restarts within 5 cycles then timeout My application, which is configured to connect to MySQL via localhost:3306, is running just fine and can access the database. I can even use MySQL Query Browser to connect to the database remotely via port 3306. The port is totally open and possible to connect to. Therefore, I'm pretty darn certain that it's running. However, running monit -v reveals that Monit cannot detect MySQL on that port. 'mysqld' failed, cannot open a connection to INET[localhost:3306] via TCP This happens consistently, until Monit decides not to track MySQL anymore, as configured. How can I begin to troubleshoot this issue?

    Firefox browser contains network settings under Tools--Options--Advanced--Network--Settings and there is an option to do auto detect proxy settings, how should I enable this? Currently this is manually configured and its possible for users to bypass and use the internet directly. We use a variety of browsers (firefox, IE, chrome, safari, opera) on win xp, win 2003, win vista machines. How should I enable this so that the end user cannot manipulate the settings on his browser to by pass security. I have configured a squid cache proxy server for this purpose.

I used to use rectangle, but it didn't go well with me. I was thinking about an image with a border (using paint.net) and moving an imageicon, but I don't know how to get the x of an imageicon or detect collision. I don't know how to detect collision of a label or increase the location either. I have searched for collision detection with components/ImageIcons, but nothing has came up. I have also searched for getting the x of ImageIcons.

  • ATI firepro will not detect a second DVI-D monitor

    OK so weird issue here. I have previously been running 6 screens off of 3 of the older ATI firepro graphics cards but they had a problem with the heat sink getting too hot and warping the PCB resulting in total failure of the card, to replace my three dead cards I purchased a new-type ATI firepro with the newer heat sink design. I'm only using one at the moment to make sure they've fixed the problem before I waste more money on 2 more cards but this is where things start to get weird. The Firepro's only have one port on them, they connect to two monitors via a splitter cable going from the one port to two DVI connectors for the screens. When I plug two identical monitors in via their DVI inputs not matter what I do windows and Catalyst will only detect one screen. However if I use the VGA input on one of the screens with a VGA - DVI adaptor to plug it in to the card it works fine. This confuses me greatly. I'm currently using the ATI Firepro 2270 Graphics card with identical DELL U2311H screens. I can post the rest of the system spec as well if needed but I wouldn't have thought it would make much difference as it had no problem handling 6 screens before the graphics cards failed. Naturally both catalyst and ATI drivers are the most current version. ATI tech support has been absolutely zero help, they seemed to get stumped as soon as I verified that both screens were plugged in and connected properly. Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi, I am running Ubuntu 9.10 on an ASUS eeepc 1000HE, and my wireless card, RaLink RT 2860, is failing to recognize any wireless networks. It was working fine this morning, until I accidentally hit Fn F2, disabling the wireless card. I hit Fn F2 again to reenable it, but it no longer will detect any wireless networks (and other computers in the household do recognize them). Any help at all will be greatly appreciated!     Guys, I have a question mainly related to the Iphone web browser but I am hoping the same solution would work on other browsers that are webkit based. I have a application (Iphone + Android) that registers a handler for custom URI (appuri://) on the Phone. I am able to launch the application by making a link to "appuri://act/launch" from my web pages. This works only if my application is installed on the device. If the device does not have the app installed then a message comes up "Safari was not able to open ....". What I want to do is detect if the URI Scheme is supported from the browser and then prompt my own message saying "please download the app ..blah blah blah" if the handler for the URI scheme is not found. Is there a way I can detect or find the list of URL Scheme handlers on the Phone from the Web Browser ?

    I have a parent and a child process written in C language. Somewhere in the parent process HUP signal is sent to the child. I want my parent process to detect if the child is dead. But when I send SIGHUP, the child process becomes a zombie. How can I detect if the child is a zombie in the parent process? I try the code below, but it doesn't return me the desired result since the child process is still there but it is defunct. kill(childPID, 0); One more question; can I kill the zombie child without killing the parent?     Is there a way to detect if a httphandler has started transmitting? I'm trying to do large dynamic Excel Exports (in html table format). I can do this, but there's a long delay from the httphandler getting the message and starting the download. I have turned off the output buffer, so the delay seems to be waiting for the SQL server to dump the data into the sqldataset. Anyways, I'd like to send the user to a new page, have the page display a message, and automatically close once the httphandler has started sending the file. Is there a way to detect if the first file headers have been sent? Many thanks in advance!

My dilemma is basically; I need to detect an empty link in order so I can feed a robots no index meta tag in the case of: page.php?permalink=events page.php?permalink=events/ page.php?permalink=ru/events/ page.php?permalink=ru/events I can't use a simple pattern such as [a-zA-Z]+\/?(.+)/ since it won't work on the i18n permalinks. What regex could I use which would detect this, using $_GET['permalink'] as the reference to the permalinks? And avoid false positives? Update: Empty link means there's no fragment after the "events/" part.     I am trying to determine if a qualification exists on http://www.accreditedqualifications.org.uk in the form: http://www.accreditedqualifications.org.uk/qualification/50084811.seo.aspx 50084811 being a qualification aim entered by the end user. If they enter an invalid one e.g. http://www.accreditedqualifications.org.uk/qualification/50084911.seo.aspx They are redirected to an error page (with incorrect http headers as far as I can see). Is there a way to detect the redirect in C#. I would hope to be able to detect the redirect in http headers (thinking it will issue 2) or similar as oppose to having to download the whole page. This could be happening a lot so I would like to minimize traffic.

    Hi, our webapp collects huge amount of data about user actions, network business, database load, etc etc etc All data is stored in warehouses and we have quite a lot of interesting views on this data. if something odd happens chances are, it shows up somewhere in the data. However, to manually detect if something out of the ordinary is going on, one has to continually look through this data, and look for oddities. My question: what is the best way to detect changes in dynamic data which can be seen as 'out of the ordinary'. Are bayesan filters (I've seen these mentioned when reading about spam detection) the way to go? Any pointers would be great! EDIT: To clarify the data for example shows a daily curve of database load. This curve typically looks similar to the curve from yesterday In time this curve might change slowly. It would be nice that if the curve from day to day changes say within some perimeters, a warning could go off. R

    I am testing my application (Windows 7, WinForms, Infragistics controls, C#, .Net 3.5). I have two monitors and my application saves and restores forms' position on the first or second monitors. So I physically switched off second monitor and disabled it at Screen Resolution on the windows display settings form. I need to know it is possible for my application to restore windows positions (for those windows that were saved on the second monitor) to the first one. I switched off second monitor and press Detect to apply hardware changes. Then Windows switched OFF the first monitor for a few seconds to apply new settings. When the first monitor screen came back, my application became unresponsive. My application was launched in debug mode, so I tried to navigate via stack and threads (Visual Studio 2008), paused application, started and did not find any thing that help me to understand why my application is not responsive. Could somebody help my how to detect the source of issue.
