    I like to annotate a series of existing pictures like that one shown below. Each shows GUI elements and i want to add some circles, arrows and numbers to create a step by step guide.   • How do I remove the on screen keyboard from the logon screen in Windows Remote Desktop Server 2008 R

    The on screen keyboard (OSK) from the "ease of access" tools pops up on EVERY connect to the server, even if you have not activated it. I can't seem to find a control panel or reg setting to switch it off. It is VERY "in your face" for linux users who connect at lower resolutions and do not provide all credentials, but have to type username and password. I'm running a 2008 R2 Terminal Server/Remote Desktop Server.

We just need basic editing and titling features for making videos of our kids slightly more watchable. Nothing too fancy. The major requirement is that it needs to be extremely easy to use even without prior editor experience. We're running Windows XP on some machines and Vista the rest.     Hi, My mother has some serious issues using Windows (viruses, spywares, and so on) and I seriously think about setting up Ubuntu as a replacement. (That would ease my "job" as well) The only concern I have is, is there anything to edit .docx (or .xlsx, .pptx, ...) documents on Linux ? Last time I tried OpenOffice (was 3 years ago), it was only able to open "old" MS Office documents (.doc, .xls, ...). Thank you very much for your answers !

  • Any home design software similar to The Sims 3?

    I tried Sketchup to sketch a home design but I find the controls a bit frustrating. I can sketch 10 times faster in The Sims 3, plus it is nicer to look at. Though the metric system may not be 1:1 ratio to reality but it's close, maybe 15%-20% off but this is a just a sketch, right? Anyway, is there any software that does home design like The Sims 3? The same ease of use but at a more professional level and a real metric system?

On the other hand, its ease of use - having a simple client on either end, and it just 'working' with full control on my end is nice- the quality however is terrible - I'm wondering if there's any controllable streaming remote music serve for windows that will let me pick the bitrate it sends at, or uses whatever bitrate the original file is in, and just sends it, and has itself controllable at the client end, and will work acceptably over a wlan connection

  • Best way to segment traffic, Vlan or subnet

    We have a medium sized network of around 200 nodes and are currently in the process of replacing old daisy chained switches with stack-able or chassis style switches. Right now our network is broken up via subnet; production, management, IP, etc each on a separate subnet. Does anyone have an opinion on whether creating Vlan's instead of subnets would be more beneficial? Our general goal is to prevent bottlenecks, separate traffic for security, and to manage traffic with more ease.

    I recently started using Linux and was floored by the ease with which windows can be moved and resized with simple keyboard combinations using Compiz. If I want to move a terminal to top-right of the screen a simple CTRL+ALT+Numpad9 does the trick for me, and it resizes the window at the same time. I'm sure you guys know what I'm talking about.   • Proper upgrade path for Windows 7 to Windows 8 when the directory setup is non-standard

    I have both a HDD and a SSD in my computer and after installing Windows I moved things around a little to ensure that the OS is on the SSD but my user profile resides on the SSD (with a few exceptions). I used junction points heavily for that. Windows and most applications are fine with that and it works well. Now I wonder whether I can in-place upgrade this to Windows 8 while retaining that exact setup or whether there is anything I can do to ease the upgrade process.

  • WinSCP clobbers permission & group on replace

    Is there a way to tell winscp to keep the group and permission of my upload file? I am tired of modifying webpages/webapp binaries and needing to change the group to www-data so the server can read them. If not what app might i use instead? I mostly use winscp for the easy of copy/pasting files onto my linux server and the ease of browsing the filesystem (can go between 2+ folders in a second, no typos)

  • VMWare/Ubuntu development stack with symlink to Windows 7

    I would like to use a vm ubuntu installation as my testing environment, but to ease workflow, I have symlinked /var/www to a windows share. Everything looks good when browsing files and the owner and group both are showing up as www-data, but I can not seem to get apache to respond with anything other than permission denied. Obviously there are still some permission issues between Windows 7 and Ubuntu, but I don't know where to go
