  • Top Fusion Apps User Experience Guidelines & Patterns That Every Apps Developer Should Know About

    - by ultan o'broin
    We've announced the availability of the Oracle Fusion Applications user experience design patterns. Developers can get going on these using the Design Filter Tool (or DeFT) to select the best pattern for their context of use. As you drill into the patterns you will discover more guidelines from the Applications User Experience team and some from the Rich Client User Interface team too that are also leveraged in Fusion Apps. All are based on the Oracle Application Development Framework components. To accelerate your Fusion apps development and tailoring, here's some inside insight into the really important patterns and guidelines that every apps developer needs to know about. They start at a broad Fusion Apps information architecture level and then become more granular at the page and task level. Information Architecture: These guidelines explain how the UI of an Oracle Fusion application is constructed. This enables you to understand where the changes that you want to make fit into the oveall application's information architecture. Begin with the UI Shell and Navigation guidelines, and then move onto page-level design using the Work Areas and Dashboards guidelines. UI Shell Guideline Navigation Guideline Introduction to Work Areas Guideline Dashboards Guideline Page Content: These patterns and guidelines cover the most common interactions used to complete tasks productively, beginning with the core interactions common across all pages, and then moving onto task-specific ones. • Facebook Invalid OAuth access token signature trying to post an attachment to group wall from PHP

    - by Volodymyr B
    I am an administrator (manager role) of a Facebook Group. I created an app, and stored its id and secret. I want my app to be able to post something on the Facebook group's feed. But when I attempt to post, I get the error 190 Invalid OAuth access token signature, even though I able to successfully obtain the access_token with publish_stream and offline_access scopes. It has the form of NNNNNNNNNNNNNNN|XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX, where N is a number (15) and X is a letter or a number (27). What should I do more to get this accomplished? Here is the code I am using: public static function postToFB($message, $image, $link) { //Get App Token $token = self::getFacebookToken(); // Create FB Object Instance $facebook = new Facebook(array( 'appId' => self::fb_appid, 'secret' => self::fb_secret, 'cookie' => true )); //$token = $facebook->getAccessToken(); //Try to Publish on wall or catch the Facebook exception try { $attachment = array('access_token' => $token, 'message' => $message, 'picture' => $image, 'link' => $link, //'name' => '', //'caption' => '', 'description' => 'More...', //'actions' => array(array('name' => 'Action Text', 'link' => 'http://apps.facebook.com/xxxxxx/')) ); $result = $facebook->api('/'.self::fb_groupid.'/feed/', 'post', $attachment); } catch (FacebookApiException $e) { //If the post is not published, print error details echo '<pre>'; print_r($e); echo '</pre>'; } } Code which returns the token //Function to Get Access Token public static function getFacebookToken($appid = self::fb_appid, $appsecret = self::fb_secret) { $args = array( 'grant_type' => 'client_credentials', 'client_id' => $appid, 'client_secret' => $appsecret, 'redirect_uri' => 'https://www.facebook.com/connect/login_success.html', 'scope' => 'publish_stream,offline_access' ); $ch = curl_init(); $url = 'https://graph.facebook.com/oauth/access_token'; curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, $url); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_HEADER, false); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, true); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POST, true); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS, $args); try { $data = curl_exec($ch); } catch (Exception $exc) { error_log($exc->getMessage()); } return json_encode($data); } If I uncomment $token = $facebook->getAccessToken(); in the posting code, it gives me yet another error (#200) The user hasn't authorized the application to perform this action. The token I get using developers.facebook.com/tools/explorer/ is of another form, much longer and with it I am able to post to the group page feed. How do I do it without copy/paste from Graph API Explorer and how do I post as a group instead of posting as a user? Thanks.

  • How do I get require_login()-like functionality using the new PHP Client Library for Facebook?

    - by cc
    Howdy. I've been tasked with making a Facebook game, but I'm new to Facebook development, so I'm just getting started. Apologies in advance if this is a no-brainer to people. I'm having trouble following all the examples I see on sites, and I keep running into missing pages in the Facebook documentation when I am trying to read up. I think it's because there's a new version of the PHP Client Library for Facebook, and everything I'm finding is referring to the old client. For instance, I see this code in a lot of examples: require 'facebook.php'; $facebook = new Facebook( array( 'appId' => '(id)', 'secret' => '(secret)' ) ); $facebook_account = $facebook->require_login(); ...but there's no "require_login()" in the client library provided in the facebook.php file. From what I can tell, it looks like Facebook has very recently rolled out some new system for development, but I don't see any sample code anywhere to deal with it. The new library comes with an "example.php" file, but it appears to be only for adding "Log in with Facebook" functionality to other sites (what I'm assuming is what they mean by "Facebook Connect" sites), not for just running apps in a Canvas page on Facebook itself. Specifically, what I need to do is let users visit an application page within Facebook, have it bring up the dialog box allowing them to authorize the app, have it show up in their "games" page, and then have it pass me the relevant info about the user so I can start creating the game. But I can't seem to find any tutorials or examples that show how to do this using the new library. Seems like this should be pretty straightforward, but I'm running into roadblocks. Or am I missing something about the PHP client library? Should require_login() be working for me, and there's something broken with my implementation, such as having the wrong client library or something? I downloaded from GitHub yesterday, so I'm pretty sure I have the most recent version of the code I have, but perhaps I'm downloading the wrong "facebook.php" file...?

  • facebook iframe size not working under https facebook connect

    - by acton
    Follow the following direction in: http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Facebook_Connect_Via_SSL to use SSL version facebook connect, some of CanvasUtil functions regarding the resizing doesn't seem to work, the code is as following: FB_RequireFeatures(["Connect","Api","CanvasUtil"], function() { FB.Facebook.init(apiKey, channel,{ "doNotUseCachedConnectState":true }); FB.CanvasClient.getCanvasInfo(function(info){ alert("get it"); }); }); I don't see "get it". If I swtich back to http version, I could get the alert message and things are ok. Does anyone know how to make CanvasUtils from SSL facebook connect working? It might be a bug in facebook. Thanks a lot!

  • custom facebook connect image - Is it facebook's policy violation?

    - by Viruthagiri
    I was going to change facebook's default login button with my custom image like mashable I mean like this But I found a article which state its against facebook's policies Is it really a violation? If it is how come mashable using custom image? Can someone answer me? Update This is the exact image i would like to use. Facebook mentioned like this in this page. While you may scale the size to suit your needs, you may not modify the “f” logo in any other way (such as by changing the design or color). If you are unable to use the correct colour due to technical limitations, you may revert to black and white. So my sign in with facebook image violating facebook policy in anyway?

  • How to format the Facebook news feed description of grouped app posts?

    - by JcFx
    I have an app which posts a message like this to a user's Facebook timeline: This is working fine, but if I post a few times, my posts get grouped on my news feed, and I get this: What settings should I use to control the way this news report appears? Instead of 'All about periods' and the page link in the box at the top, I'd like 'Body iQ Quiz' and the app description. Where would I set these values? And is it possible to make the grouped report say 'Jay cee Effex shared a link via Body iQ Quiz', the way the original post does? I'm posting from the Facebook AS3 API, and my post code looks like this: var auth:FacebookAuthResponse = Facebook.getAuthResponse(); var token:String = auth.accessToken; var user:String = auth.uid; var values:Object = { access_token: token, name: "Body iQ Quiz", picture: "http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/282950_427728213914009_630526316_n.jpg", link:"http://www.lil-lets.co.uk/en-GB/Wellbeing", description: "Women, how well do we know our bodies? Click here to find out what your Body iQ is.", message: result.FacebookBody + " " + result.FacebookTitle }; Facebook.api("/" + user + "/feed", handleSubmitFeed, values, URLRequestMethod.POST); ... but I'm not sure if this is something I can fix in code, or if the app configuration needs tweaking? NOTE: Some users report getting the latter format in their news feed even with a single post (I can't reproduce this), so perhaps grouping is a red herring, and the real question is how to format the news feed report of a timeline post?

  • How to query the like count of a facebook object such as a album or photo via fql?

    - by hip10
    Hi, Here is a tricky question, how do you get the like count of a facebook object such as an album or a photo? I know that facebook has a fql table called link_stat that allow you to get the like count for an external url, but it does not seem to work if the object is within facebook. If you access the likes via the opengraph api on a particular object, it will only return a maximum of 4 users that like the object, even though there maybe a few thousand users that like it. Any clues?

  • How can I tag a user in a photo using the Facebook Graph API?

    - by fr6
    I tried: $args = array( 'access_token' => $access_token, 'id' => $uid ); $url = "https://graph.facebook.com/{$idPhoto}/tags"; $ch = curl_init(); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, $url); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_HEADER, false); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, true); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POST, true); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS, $args); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYPEER, false); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYHOST, 2); $data = curl_exec($ch); It has returned me: {"error":{"type":"QueryParseException","message":"Unknown path components: \/tags"}} It does not seem possible because its not in the Facebook documentation: http://developers.facebook.com/docs/api#publishing Can someone confirm me that it's not possible to tag a user in a recently uploaded photo?

  • Redirection loop problem at facebook iframe application

    - by Sniff
    I do IFrame application for facebook. Problem is: any link inside it causes redirect loop Link is: http://mydomain/mypage?fb_sig=[what I got from $_GET['fb_sig']] (to test I link to the same page as my loaded canvas is loaded from) when I click on it, my server returns: <script type="text/javascript"> top.location.href = "http://www.facebook.com/login.php?api_key=5dc632fcef992470341178f492f79b93&v=1.0&next=http%3A%2F%2Fthiismydomain%2Ffacebook%2F%3Ffb_sig%3D96a5c47f133eadcfbba4abf82e5311e0%26page%3D1"; </script> then it goes to corresponding page, and facebook returns Location: http://thisismydomain/facebook/?fb_sig=96a5c47f133eadcfbba4abf82e5311e0&page=1&auth_token=ce4cf4968f91cace5b3e915f5b658984 then, my server replies with <script type="text/javascript"> top.location.href = "http://www.facebook.com/login.php?api_key=5dc632fcef992470341178f492f79b93&v=1.0&next=http%3A%2F%2Fthisismydomain%2Ffacebook%2F%3Ffb_sig%3D96a5c47f133eadcfbba4abf82e5311e0%26page%3D1%26auth_token%3Dce4cf4968f91cace5b3e915f5b658984"; </script> and back, facebook replies: Location: http://thisismydomain/facebook/?fb_sig=96a5c47f133eadcfbba4abf82e5311e0&page=1&auth_token=ce4cf4968f91cace5b3e915f5b658984&auth_token=77df653b7949ca39c1a226c82cce8add and it goes on and one without end. Should I say that this redirect responce from my server is generated automately (most probaby my facebook php lib) I have no more ideas why this happends. Any ideas?

  • Refreshing Facebook session from an iframe application

    - by zombat
    I've got a Facebook iframe application that is completely external. By this I mean that once a user accesses the canvas URL to load the application, all the links in the iframe app go to my servers, and the canvas page never gets refreshed unless the user navigates to somewhere else on Facebook and comes back (or does a browser refresh). On the initial load of the app where Facebook creates the iframe, I get passed all the usual parameters like fb_sig_user which allows me to create an internal app session based on the facebook user. This app session (which is not the Facebook session, it's my own app session) is all I need to allow the user to work with the app. The problem comes an hour later. If the user leaves the computer, or uses the app for more than an hour, the Facebook session expires. There are some app pages which require fetching friend information, and once the FB session has expired, these pages break, throwing out errors such as "Error: Session key invalid or no longer valid". My question is whether there is a way to refresh the user's Facebook session from within an iframe application to keep it from expiring an hour later. Do any of the API calls do this? Is there a Facebook Connect trick to ping something? Is there any definitive method to keep it alive? I haven't been able to find any examples that specifically address this.

  • Facebook Connect: Error when clicking the Facebook Connect button

    - by Garrett
    I am getting this error when I click on the facebook connect button: API Error Code: 100 API Error Description: Invalid parameter Error Message: next is not owned by the application. I am not too sure how to do this, but I've read all the documentation for facebook connect and came up with this: <?php date_default_timezone_set("America/Toronto"); define('FACEBOOK_APP_ID', '##################'); define('FACEBOOK_SECRET', 'XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX'); function get_facebook_cookie($app_id, $application_secret) { if(!isset($_COOKIE['fbs_' . $app_id])) return null; $args = array(); parse_str(trim($_COOKIE['fbs_' . $app_id], '\\"'), $args); ksort($args); $payload = ''; foreach ($args as $key => $value) { if ($key != 'sig') { $payload .= $key . • What's the best approach to Facebook integration?

    - by Jay Stevens
    I have a new site/app going live next week (or somewhere close). I know there will be a relatively small (15,000?) very dedicated group of people on Facebook who will be very likely to be interested in the site, so I know I need Facebook integration of some kind. I won't be doing Facebook logins or pulling/posting to profiles yet, but I plan to... The question: Do I just do a Facebook "Page" for now? This is faster/easier to set up and seems a little less buggy.. and then migrate to a Facebook App later? or Do I create a "Facebook App" (with the api key/id/secret, etc.) now even if I'm doing nothing but using the "like" button. This means I don't have any migration later and I can use the javascript api to log "like" button clicks to Google Analytics, etc. Thoughts? Experiences? Is there a migration process to move your old Page users to your new "App"? What's the advantages / disadvantages of each.

  • Bypass Facebook Social Reader Apps using Google Chrome Extension

    - by Gopinath
    One of the most annoying features of Facebook  is it’s Social Reader Apps that share automatically whatever your read, watch or listen online.  I don’t like to share what ever I do online to Facebook as I want my privacy. Few of  my friends knowingly or unknowingly are using Social Reader apps and their online activity is automatically posted to the wall. To read these articles or watch videos shared by Social Reader application I need to add the application and allow it to automatically post. I don’t like Social Reader Apps and if you are one like me, here is a Google Chrome browser plugin that allows us to bypass Social Reader Apps. The extension Facebook Unsocial Reader smartly rewrites Facebook links in such a way that you will be able to access content of links without adding Social Reader Apps to your account. To rewrite the links, the extension cleverly uses Google I’m Feeling Lucky service and searches for the article’s title. The first search result of Google is almost perfect in identifying the original article link. If you are a heavy Facebook user and concerned about using Social Reader Apps, this plugin is must to have. Photo (cc) Josh Hallett. Facebook Unsocial Reader Extension for Google Chrome

  • Facebook PHP SDK - will not logout properly

    - by garethdn
    I've been searching for hours for the solution to this problem but can't find one that works for me. When i click "Logout" on my site the user information is still visible and the logout button is still displayed. Here is the code: require 'facebook-php-sdk/src/facebook.php'; $facebook = new Facebook(array( 'appId' => 'xxxx', 'secret' => 'xxxx', )); // Get User ID $user = $facebook->getUser(); var_dump($user); if ($user) { try { // Proceed knowing you have a logged in user who's authenticated. $user_profile = $facebook->api('/me'); } catch (FacebookApiException $e) { error_log($e); $user = null; } } // Login or logout url will be needed depending on current user state. if ($_GET['logout'] == "yes") { setcookie('fbs_'.$facebook->getAppId(), '', time()-100, '/', 'http://gno.....ment/index.php'); session_destroy(); header("Location: ".$_SERVER['PHP_SELF'].""); } if ($user_profile) { $logoutUrl = $facebook->getLogoutUrl; } else { $loginUrl = $facebook->getLoginUrl(array('scope' => 'email,publish_stream,user_status', 'canvas' => 1, 'fbconnect' => 0, 'redirect_uri' => 'http://gno.....ment/index.php')); } ..... ..... <?php if ($user): ?> <h3>You</h3> <img src="https://graph.facebook.com/<?php echo $user; ?>/picture"> <h3>Your User Object (/me)</h3> <pre><?php print_r($user_profile); ?></pre> <?php else: ?> <strong><em>You are not Connected.</em></strong> <?php endif ?> <?php if ($user): ?> <a href="<?php echo $logoutUrl; ?>">Logout of FB</a> <?php else: ?> <div> Login using OAuth 2.0 handled by the PHP SDK: <a href="<?php echo $loginUrl; ?>">Login with Facebook</a> </div> <?php endif ?> It seems that if ($_GET['logout'] == "yes") might be the answer for me but i can't get it working. I don't know where logout is gotten from or where it is defined? This seems to be a common issue but i can't figure it out. I'd really appreciate some help.

  • Bitnami redmine error SVN

    - by Evgeniy
    I'm installing the Bitnami Redmine stack (redmine + subversion). Firstly I install configure and test it locally (Ubuntu 14.04 LTS). And everything is OK. I install Bitnami stack on server (Red Hat 4.4.7-4) and configure SVN. I commit files into SVN and connect project into Redmine with SVN repository, but when I try see it Rredmine displays 404 error. • Facebook Connect - Security Warning

    - by Skoder
    Hey all, I'm using Facebook connect using FBML tags. Although it works, when I run the site in Internet Explorer, a security warning comes up similar to this: The current webpage is trying to open a site in your Trusted sites list. Do you want to allow this? Current site: http://www.facebook.com Trusted site: http://localhost" My Facebook code involves these two: http://static.ak.connect.facebook.com/js/api_lib/v0.4/FeatureLoader.js.php http://static.ak.connect.facebook.com/js/api_lib/v0.4/XdCommReceiver.js I tried changing them to HTTPS: https://ssl.connect... but the errors still appear. None of my pages use SSL. I've also tried turning facebook-logo='false' but still no luck. Any ideas on how to fix this? Although it's not show-stopping, it doesn't give a good impression to users who may be feel it insecure. Thanks

  • Facebook connect displaying invite friends dialog and closing on completion

    - by Dougnukem
    I'm trying to create a Facebook Connect application that displays a friend invite dialog within the page using Facebook's Javascript API (through a FBMLPopupDialog). The trouble is to display a friend invite dialog you use a multi-friend form which requires an action="url" attribute that represents the URL to redirect your page to when the user completes or skips the form. The problem is that I want to just close the FBMLPopupDialog (the same behavior as if the user just hit the 'X' button on the popup dialog). The best I can do is redirect the user back to the page they were on basically a reload but they lose all AJAX/Flash application state. I'm wondering if any Facebook Connect developers have run into this issue and have a good way to simply display a friend invite "lightbox" dialog within their website where they don't want to "refresh" or "redirect" when the user finishes. The facebook connect JS API provides a FB.Connect.inviteConnectUsers, which provides a nice dialog but only connects existing users of your application who also have a Facebook account and haven't connected. http://bugs.developers.facebook.com/show%5Fbug.cgi?id=4916 function fb_inviteFriends() { //Invite users log("Inviting users..."); FB.Connect.requireSession( function() { //Connect succes var uid = FB.Facebook.apiClient.get_session().uid; log('FB CONNECT SUCCESS: ' + uid); //Invite users log("Inviting users..."); //Update server with connected account updateAccountFacebookUID(); var fbml = fb_getInviteFBML() ; var dialog = new FB.UI. FBMLPopupDialog("Weblings Invite", fbml) ; //dialog.setFBMLContent(fbml); dialog.setContentWidth(650); dialog.setContentHeight(450); dialog.show(); }, //Connect cancelled function() { //User cancelled the connect log("FB Connect cancelled:"); } ); } function fb_getInviteFBML() { var uid = FB.Facebook.apiClient.get_session().uid; var fbml = ""; fbml = '<fb:fbml>\n' + '<fb:request-form\n'+ //Redirect back to this page ' action="'+ document.location +'"\n'+ ' method="POST"\n'+ ' invite="true"\n'+ ' type="Weblings Invite"\n' + ' content="I need your help to discover all the Weblings and save the Internet! WebWars: Weblings is a cool new game where we can collect fantastic creatures while surfing our favorite websites. Come find the missing Weblings with me!'+ //Callback the server with the appropriate Webwars Account URL ' <fb:req-choice url=\''+ WebwarsFB.WebwarsAccountServer +'/SplashPage.aspx?action=ref&reftype=Facebook' label=\'Check out WebWars: Weblings\' />"\n'+ '>\n'+ ' <fb:multi-friend-selector\n'+ ' rows="2"\n'+ ' cols="4"\n'+ ' bypass="Cancel"\n'+ ' showborder="false"\n'+ ' actiontext="Use this form to invite your friends to connect with WebWars: Weblings."/>\n'+ ' </fb:request-form>'+ ' </fb:fbml>'; return fbml; }

  • invite friends in a dialog in a Facebook application

    - by Shani1351
    I'm trying to create a Facebook application that displays a friend invite dialog within the application using Facebook's Javascript API (FB.ui). To do that I followed this tutorial I have two problems : The action url I've put in the request-form is "http://apps.facebook.com/appname/post_invite.php" but I see that the iframe source after the post is "http://mydomain.com/post_invite.php" and when this iframe tries to do : parent.closeInviteWidget(); I get an error saying : "Permission denied for < http: //mydomain.com (document.domain has not been set) to get property Window.closeInviteWidget from < http:// apps.facebook.com (document.domain=< http:// facebook.com)." The skip button inside the request-form opens the action url in a new window (new browser tab) and not post to itself like the invite button. How can I fix those problems? -------------------- UPDATE : -------------------------------- I've tried to do what ifaour said and changed the code to : function inviteFriends(user_name, category_id, category_name) { url = appBaseUrl + "/index.php?category_id=" + category_id; req = "<fb:req-choice url='" + url + "' label='Authorize My Application' />"; content = user_name + " opened a new category called " + category_name + ". " + req; action = 'post_invite.php'; fbmi_text = '<fb:request-form action="' + action + '" target="_self" method="post" invite="true" type="Invite" content="' + content + '" <fb:multi-friend-selector showborder="false" actiontext="Invite yor friends" email_invite="false" import_external_friends="false" /> </fb:request-form>'; FB.ui({ method:'fbml.dialog', width:'750px', fbml:fbmi_text }); } When I use FireBug and look at the invite form it looks like this: <form id="req_form_4d20682f73ddb6e71722794" content="I've opened a new category called dsfsd. <fb:req-choice url='http://apps.facebook.com/appname/index.php?category_id=60' label='Authorize My Application' /> type="Invite" invite="true" method="post" target="_self" action="http://apps.facebook.com/appname/post_invite.php"> ... </form> But I still get the same error : Permission denied for <http://mydomain.com> (document.domain has not been set) to get property Window.closeInviteWidget from <http://apps.facebook.com> (document.domain=<http://facebook.com>)...

  • Show facebook status stream of a dedicated person on a website

    - by Pascal
    Hi all, I've been stomping at this all day :( I want to display a status feed of both twitter and facebook on my website. For twitter, this is not a problem, as my account is public, I can easily get the feed. Facebook however, is a whole different story! I can't seem to find an easy way to just get my last status updates and display it on my website. The code I currently have, needs authentication of the visitor, and I don't want that! This is my current code: $facebook = new Facebook($api_key, $secret); $stream = $facebook->api_client->fql_query("SELECT message,source,time FROM status WHERE uid = $user_id LIMIT 6"); I've seen several possible solutions, including the RSS feed, but as Facebook keeps changing the way their site works, none of the previous methods I've seen (including those from as late as januari) currently work! Is there anybody who can provide me with a currently working solution to this (simple?) problem?

  • Add Free Google Apps to Your Website or Blog

    - by Matthew Guay
    Would you like to have an email address from your own domain, but prefer Gmail’s interface and integration with Google Docs?  Here’s how you can add the free Google Apps Standard to your site and get the best of both worlds. Note: To signup for Google Apps and get it setup on your domain, you will need to be able to add info to your WordPress blog or change Domain settings manually. Getting Started Head to the Google Apps signup page (link below), and click the Get Started button on the right.  Note that we are signing up for the free Google Apps which allows a max of 50 users; if you need more than 50 email addresses for your domain, you can choose Premiere Edition instead for $50/year. Select that you are the Administrator of the domain, and enter the domain or subdomain you want to use with Google Apps.  Here we’re adding Google Apps to the techinch.com site, but we could instead add Apps to mail.techinch.com if needed…click Get Started. Enter your name, phone number, an existing email address, and other Administrator information.  The Apps signup page also includes some survey questions about your organization, but you only have to fill in the required fields. On the next page, enter a username and password for the administrator account.  Note that the user name will also be the administrative email address as [email protected]. Now you’re ready to authenticate your Google Apps account with your domain.  The steps are slightly different depending on whether your site is on WordPress.com or on your own hosting service or server, so we’ll show how to do it both ways.   Authenticate and Integrate Google Apps with WordPress.com To add Google Apps to a domain you have linked to your WordPress.com blog, select Change yourdomain.com CNAME record and click Continue. Copy the code under #2, which should be something like googleabcdefg123456.  Do not click the button at the bottom; wait until we’ve completed the next step.   Now, in a separate browser window or tab, open your WordPress Dashboard.  Click the arrow beside Upgrades, and select Domains from the menu. Click the Edit DNS link beside the domain name you’re adding to Google Apps. Scroll down to the Google Apps section, and paste your code from Google Apps into the verification code field.  Click Generate DNS records when you’re done. This will add the needed DNS settings to your records in the box above the Google Apps section.  Click Save DNS records. Now, go back to the Google Apps signup page, and click I’ve completed the steps above. Authenticate Google Apps on Your Own Server If your website is hosted on your own server or hosting account, you’ll need to take a few more steps to add Google Apps to your domain.  You can add a CNAME record to your domain host using the same information that you would use with a WordPress account, or you can upload an HTML file to your site’s main directory.  In this test we’re going to upload an HTML file to our site for verification. Copy the code under #1, which should be something like googleabcdefg123456.  Do not click the button at the bottom; wait until we’ve completed the next step first. Create a new HTML file and paste the code in it.  You can do this easily in Notepad: create a new document, paste the code, and then save as googlehostedservice.html.  Make sure to select the type as All Files or otherwise the file will have a .txt extension. Upload this file to your web server via FTP or a web dashboard for your site.  Make sure it is in the top level of your site’s directory structure, and try visiting it at yoursite.com/googlehostedservice.html. Now, go back to the Google Apps signup page, and click I’ve completed the steps above. Setup Your Email on Google Apps When this is done, your Google Apps account should be activated and ready to finish setting up.  Google Apps will offer to launch a guide to step you through the rest of the process; you can click Launch guide if you want, or click Skip this guide to continue on your own and go directly to the Apps dashboard.   If you choose to open the guide, you’ll be able to easily learn the ropes of Google Apps administration.  Once you’ve completed the tutorial, you’ll be taken to the Google Apps dashboard. Most of the Google Apps will be available for immediate use, but Email may take a bit more setup.  Click Activate email to get your Gmail-powered email running on your domain.    Add Google MX Records to Your Server You will need to add Google MX records to your domain registrar in order to have your mail routed to Google.  If your domain is hosted on WordPress.com, you’ve already made these changes so simply click I have completed these steps.  Otherwise, you’ll need to manually add these records before clicking that button.   Adding MX Entries is fairly easy, but the steps may depend on your hosting company or registrar.  With some hosts, you may have to contact support to have them add the MX records for you.  Our site’s host uses the popular cPanel for website administration, so here’s how we added the MX Entries through cPanel. Add MX Entries through cPanel Login to your site’s cPanel, and click the MX Entry link under Mail. Delete any existing MX Records for your domain or subdomain first to avoid any complications or interactions with Google Apps.  If you think you may want to revert to your old email service in the future, save a copy of the records so you can switch back if you need. Now, enter the MX Records that Google listed.  Here’s our account after we added all of the entries to our account. Finally, return to your Google Apps Dashboard and click the I have completed these steps button at the bottom of the page. Activating Service You’re now officially finished activating and setting up your Google Apps account.  Google will first have to check the MX records for your domain; this only took around an hour in our test, but Google warns it can take up to 48 hours in some cases. You may then see that Google is updating its servers with your account information.  Once again, this took much less time than Google’s estimate. When everything’s finished, you can click the link to access the inbox of your new Administrator email account in Google Apps.
