• Why doesn't Unity 3D work on my HD3000 integrated graphics?

  So I got my new laptop recently. HP Envy 15 with switchable graphics card. I'm using both windows and ubuntu, but for ubuntu I need just Intel HD3000 for better battery live. I've installed fglrx-updates and fglrx-amdcccle-updates. The drivers seems to work for my ATI card. The problem is, Intel HD3000 does not support Unity 3D. Why? • How to use only intel graphics and power off radeon?

  I've been using Linux for quite a while in everyday computing and programming. But now i got this new laptop with amazing battery life on windows which runs pretty cool even while gaming. But for some reason on Ubuntu I get like 1/3 battery life and it gets hot even while browsing the web. I have the proprietary drivers for radeon, but I'm thinking about upgrading from Ubuntu 12.04 to 14.04, and I would like to know how can I use only the Intel graphics and have radeon always turned off? Since I do not need the discrete graphics on Ubuntu and I'm pretty sure my problem is related to the radeon sucking up my battery and generating heat. My laptop technical specifications are: Dell latitude 3540 Intel core i7 4500U (with Intel hd4400 graphics ) Ati Radeon HD 8850m with 2GB GDDR5 VRAM 8 GB DDR3L @1600mhz Toshiba 256gb SSD Ubuntu 12.4.3 If you need any additional info, please tell me :)

• Running crysis 2 on ubuntu gives me an error message

  so i recently installed ubuntu alongside windows 7 and i installed crysis 2 with wine. crysis 2 works fine when i run windows, however when i run it using wine in ubuntu cryengine gives me a message saying, "Unsupported video card detected! Continuing to run migth lead to unexpected results or crashes....." i've got two video cards ones an intel and the other's a nvidia. i typed lspci into the terminal and my nvidia card was listed under video controller as well

• Unable to boot from LiveCD/USB and even Super Grub Disk!

  Hi all, I'm in a fix. Basically this morning, I decided to format my Win7 as it was getting really slow and I did so with no problems. I also have a Linux Mint OS on dual boot. Since I was springcleaning my windows partition, I decided it was a good idea to do the same to my linux partition. I downloaded the latest version of Linux Mint (Julia) and burned the LiveCD. Now here is where the problem lies, when I restarted Windows and chose to boot from the LiveCD, it didn't work. No joke. There was just a little underscore blinking for a long time before it went back to GRUB which prompted me to select an OS to boot. However, when I went into my old Linux Mint OS and restarted the machine, the LiveCD worked... to a certain extent. It would load and look as though it was ready to install Linux Mint 10 but the moment it got to the option screen, the whole screen turned into a checkered and jumbled mess. At this point I thought it was the LiveCD or the .iso file. I had an Ubuntu LiveUSB for recovery purposes and I tried that. The exact same thing happened. Can't boot the LiveUSB if I restarted from Windows, but works when I reboot from Linux. BUT still the same checkered screen that doesnt respond. Did a bit of googling and reckoned it might be something wrong with my GRUB. Did some updating and didnt make a difference. Then I tried the Super Grub Disk and STUPIDLY uninstalled GRUB. (Note that booting to SGD had the exact same problem - can't be done if I rebooted from Windows). Now I can't access my Linux Mint 9 cos the the bootup screen (mbr) only has Windows 7 as an option. Remember me mentioning that I can't boot from any CD/USB/recovery CD when I reboot from Windows? And now that I can't access Linux, there's no way for me to do any form of recovery! I've tried using the command prompt utility at startup recovery but to no avail. Anyone can help me with this?

  Ever noticed that when you go to maps.google.com and do a search (say, car wash), it renders a lot of results (represented by small circles) and a few prominent ones (seen as regular-size pins)? Notice how quickly it does this? From what I can tell from analyzing this in Firebug, much of this is generated on the server and sent to the client as a static image. However, it's still dynamic. You can still zoom in and out, or click on a result and see a dynamic InfoWindow rendered. Google have made the map quick and smooth using static images, while still making it flexible. Is there a way to do this kind of 'pre-loading' with my own Google Map (implemented with the Google Maps API)?

  We (me and my team) have a ASP.NET MVC application and we are integrating a page or two that are Web Forms. We are trying to reuse the Master Page from our MVC part of the app in the WebForms part. We have found a way of rendering an MVC partial view in web forms, which works great, until we try and do a postback, which is the reason for using a WebForm. The Error: Validation of viewstate MAC failed. If this application is hosted by a Web Farm or cluster, ensure that configuration specifies the same validationKey and validation algorithm. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster. A Work-around: So far the work-around is to move the header content to a PartialView, then use an AJAX call to call a page with just the Partial View from the WebForms, and then using the PartialView directly on the MVC Views. Also, we are still able to share non-tech-specific parts of the Master Page, i.e. anything that is not MVC specific. Still yet, this is not an ideal solution, a server-side solution is still desired. Also, this solutino has issues when working with controls that have more sophisticated controls, using JavaScript, particularly dynamically generated script as used by 3rd party controls.

It works fine, but I can't get Visual Studio to display the "Add Controller" or "Add View" wizards on my controllers and views directories (they're not /Controllers and /Views, they're in /Foo/Controllers and /Foo/Views). Is it possible to enable the wizards?

• Unit testing "hybrid" WPF/Silverlight controls

  I'm starting a new WPF/Silverlight custom control project and wanted to do unit testing on this one. However I'm a little confused about how to approach this. This control would be based on the same codebase for both WPF and Silverlight with minor forking using #ifs and partial classes to tame the differences. I guess I could write unit tests for WPF part with NUnit, MSTest, xUnit, etc. and for the Silverlight part with Silverlight Unit Test Framework but this doesn't sound very elegant to me. I'd have to either ignore testing identical code on one of the platforms and test only differing parts (which is not very trustworthy) or rewrite tests for 2 frameworks (which is annoying). Is this the right way to go? I'm wondering if there's some guidance, articles, tutorials out there on how to approach this task. Any pointers?

• Cannot Install Bootcamp on Mac Fusion Drive

  I have two drive installed in my mid-2013 Macbook pro. It is running osx maverick. I set the two drives (an ssd and a regular HD) up using the fusion drive (following the diy fusion drive guides out there). I went ahead and created a 40gb partition to host my windows install. I removed the SSD, installed windows, then reinstalled the SSD. As soon as the ssd was placed back in the bootcamp partition stopped booting. I get a blinking cursor on a black screen. I checked out the partition info in disk utility and it appears that the windows partition is not marked bootable. Below is some info I managed to gather. • Data Recovery needed with a Sector Zero problem on a HDD

  Left my computer (running XP) copying files to an external drive. Came back a few hours later, and the laptop was pretty hot and had frozen (Ironic aint it). Forced a reboot, and the laptop HDD hasnt worked since. Set it up in an external enclosure, but XP cant mount the HDD to a drive letter, but is able to recognize the manufacturer and drive size (Hitachi-320GB). No noise or rattling when the drive is spinning, but I cant get anything off of it, since i cant mount it, or see much of anything. Computer repair shop ran some software tests and says it came back with a "Zero Sector bad" message, and need to send it to a professional data recovery service. Any other options or ideas, before I have to spend thousands of dollars to recover my data? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!! I'm desperate and a poor student! Thanks in Advance, -Jay

• Disk Error on Boot (Possible boot sector issue)

  I own a 4-5 year old Dell Dimension E510 with Windows XP: Media Center Edition. I have 2 drives installed: C Drive: Windows XP: Media Center Edition G Drive: 2 partitions: Windows 7 (beta) Windows XP (professional) That is also the order they are connected. The C Drive is my primary drive. When I attempt to boot the computer, the bios loading screen appears normally; the progress bar moves and it's fine. The very next page, however, supposed to be a boot choice. When I installed Windows 7 onto the G Drive in context of the C drive it added a boot selector to the C drive's boot sequence. It gives me the option of booting Windows 7 or Windows XP: Media Center Edition. However, my problem is now this: After the bios screen I previously mentioned, instead of a boot selector, I receive the following error: A disk read error occurred. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart. The drive is spinning up normally. I hear no odd noises/clicks/scraping coming from it, even after disabling the other drive to listen to it carefully. According to me, it's a boot sector issue. I have never experienced this before, but maybe during a recent shutdown, Windows XP: MCE errored out and ruined the boot sector. Dilemma! I don't have the Windows XP: MCE disc, because it was installed by the factory. I have accessed the hidden partition on the drive before (you hit a key combination on the bios screen and it comes up with an interface to fix your drive). However, I don't want to reformat the drive (which is what the interface gives me the option to do). I want to possibly fix the boot sector. How can I achieve that?

  Help, I'm so confused. I did more or less what's been described here: I formatted Vista and installed Windows 7 over it. Problem is that I'm now unable to boot (...) [1] I'm installing Seven on top of Vista on ACER AS1410 Notebook When it comes to the part where I choose where to install, I pick the partition labeled C: but instead of keeping windows.old files (what would I want them for?) I choose to go and carelessly format the partition (my bad). It shows me this error: Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information Now the only option is "Load Driver". i have tried installing every single one from ACER website, none of them are useful. I even flashed orig. BIOS. I've tried going back and choose "Repair" like in the picture:[2] but I only get an error: "Failed to save startup options" I think this is weird, what else can I do?   Here's the deal: I have a multi-partitioned hard drive on my laptop set up with GRUB. I got a blue-screen while working on Windows 7 and when rebooting I got the Operating System Not Found error message. I rebooted the computer once again and entered the BIOS setup just to see if recognized my HDD - it did. Next step for me was booting a Live CD and seeing if I could repair GRUB or at least check if something changed on the partitions, but it doesn't seem to recognize anything there. Tried blkid, fdisk -l, not even GParted can see it. What should I do?

• Error loading operating system WinXP Pro

  So im getting the error "Error loading operating system" when the computer tries to boot to a fresh install of WinXP Pro. To get to this point, I: Shrunk the only partition with Gparted to 33GB Copied the partition to the end of the 200GB drive Enlarged the first one to fill the space Formatted the first partition to NTFS Set the first partition to boot, tagged the latter to hidden, removed boot flag This was done all under Hiren's BootCD. Now this is where it goes down the drain. I installed XP Pro SP1a from its CD, and chose to quick format the partition. Now after the OS was installed, I can't start XP without using the default menu action from Hiren's BootCD. All I am greeted with is the "error loading operating system" message. I tried to use the XP recovery to fixboot, fixmbr and bootcfg /rebuild (dont remember if the command was like this, anyway the 3 suggested commands). This did nothing. What am I missing here?

I managed to restore partition that I needed and backed up files that were crucial to me (at least those that I had space to store somewhere) OK now get to the problem.   the last time i installed Windows 7, the boot manager automatically got installed in a small hidden partition, and the main os into another partition. So, formatting the c: won't affect the boot manager. yesterday i wiped and repartitioned my hdd like this: 50mb primary ntfs (meant for boot manager) 100gb primary ntfs (for win 8) 50gb primary ntfs (for win 7) some logical partitions to install ubuntu and other os i installed win 7 and then win 8, and now there is no os choosing menu. system directly boots win 8 and the 50 mb partition is empty. There is a way to boot Windows 7 and even Ubuntu directly from the Windows boot manager with EasyBCD. But How do i put the boot manager in the 50mb partition ?
