  I have front end rails app, that reverse proxies to any of a number of backend rails apps depending on URL, for example http://www.my_host.com/app_one reverse proxies to http://www.remote_host_running_app_one.com such that a URL like http://www.my_host.com/app_one/users will display the contents of http://www.remote_host_running_app_one.com/users I have a large, and ever expanding number of backends, so they can not be explicitly listed anywhere other than a database. This is no problem for mod_rewrite using a prg:/ rewrite map reverse proxy. The question is, the urls returned by rails helpers have the form /controller/action making them absolute to the root. This is a problem for the page served by mod_rewrite because links on the proxied page appear as absolute to the domain. i.e.: http://www.my_host.com/app_one/controller/action has links that end up looking like /controller/action/ when they need to look like /app_one/controller/action mod_proxy_html seems like the right idea, but it doesn't seem to be as dynamic as I would need, since the rules need to be hard coded into the config files. Is there a way to fix this server-side, so that the links will be routed correctly?

  I am looking for the best solution for setting up a very low maintenance reverse proxy for a production website (example.com). The setup is as follows: A blog with will be hosted on heroku, and will reside at example.com/blog A static info page which will be hosted on S3 and will reside at example.com/signup A dynamic content management system, provided and hosted by an external vendor which will respond to requests for any other pages. The two solutions which come to mind are: Use HAProxy Ask the external vendor to reverse proxy requests for /blog and /signup The obvious solution would be to use HAProxy, but, if at all possible, I would like to avoid having to setup and maintain another server (especially such a critical one). I came across a company called Snapt which offers hosted HAProxy solutions, but its more geared towards load-balancing than reverse proxying. Option 2 is a possibility, but gives us very little control over changes and configuration. I see a lot of sites hosting blogs on /blog so this must be fairly common practice, am I missing an obvious solution?

Is it possible to define only the allowed hosts in any way? PS: I know FoxyProxy add-on for Firefox does this, but 1)I don't use Firefox and 2)I want the proxy settings system wide not only for browser.

  I have a reverse proxy with two SSL enabled NamedVirtualHosts on different ports. Both containers on each internal host is GF 2.1.1. Proxy configuration as follows: Proxy URL -> Internal URL https://apps.mydomain.com -> http://apps.internal.com https://secure.otherdomain.com:8080/ -> http://secure.internal.com I initially tried configuring the J2EE agent in OpenAM and the web app container to use the internal URLs (I appended /openam and /agentapp respectively). However, I received the following errors when trying to access a secured application such as https://apps.mydomain.com/webapp. java.lang.RuntimeException: Failed to load configuration: ApplicationSSOTokenProvider.getApplicationSSOToken(): Unable to get Application SSO Token A second attempt gives the following error: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Could not initialize class com.sun.identity.agents.filter.AmFilterManager Along with these in the agent debug.out: ERROR: Failed to obtain auth service url from server: null://null:null ... SiteMonitor: Site URL http://secure.internal.com/openam/namingservice is not available. If I specify the server and agent urls using the proxy urls, then the agent appears to be working and I am redirected to the OpenAM login page. However, the goto in the URL is http://apps.mydomain.com/webapp instead of https://apps.mydomain.com/webapp (missing https). So after authentication, the redirect fails. Now I could possibly get by with mod_rewrite, but it feels hackish and I really want to know what's going on. Any ideas?

Path to the css over proxy looks like this : localhost:8080/e-SPP/css/style.css which doesn't open the CSS if I change the port to 7001 the it works !!! localhost:7001/e-SPP/css/style.css What should I do that CSS and JS are loaded? • Configuring IE to resolve DNS at the proxy rather than locally.

  With the intention of tunneling web traffic through an SSH connection, the following has been done: I've manually configured a PAC file in IE7 in the LAN Settings dialog. I've verified that traffic is routed through my SSH tunnel that is setup for SOCKS5 dynamic port forwarding. I see that IE7 is always trying to resolve the name locally first. What I'm looking for is the ability to have the DNS name resolved at the proxy, rather than locally by the browser. There's a setting in Firefox that specifies DNS remote resolution, and Safari does it automatically. I've verified correct operation for these 2 other browsers. It would be nice if I could get IE to work also. This is for reference so you could understand where does the question originate from. Notice: The question was actually found by the help of google but with no answers available. Considering how it is exactly my question I figured I should just copy/paste over here because I don't think I could describe any better (there is a small introduction though).

  *.in-addr.arpa domains: lot of requests in my OpenDNS account. I know this should be normal and it's about reverse DNS. I've been reading here and there but still I can't really get how it works and why I get so much requests (higher number than www.google.com). I have setup a reverse proxy for the one without the trailing slash like this: ProxyPass /test http://othersite.com/test ProxyPassReverse /testhttp://othersite.com/test But it doesn't work with a trailing slash. Any Ideas? I have tried redirecting from /test/ to /test with no luck. Thanks.

SSI, FastCGI? Others? The only requirements for the reverse proxy is to be able to do https and gzip compression. Will disabling all the module really help with footprint and/or performance?

  Is it possible to create an SSH tunnel over http-proxy when https access is denied? I had such configuration in .ssh\config Host home User root Hostname *my-home-pc-with-ssh-access-allowed* Port 8090 ProxyCommand corkscrew db-isa-01 8080 %h %p ~/.ssh/.corkscrew-db-isa-auth IdentityFile ~/.ssh/id_rsa Where db-isa-01 is my corporate proxy server. Today the admins blocked all https access and allowed it only for few servers on the white list. I used this command to create a tunnel: ssh -D 7070 -o 'GatewayPorts yes' -A -q -g -t root@home and now it doesn't work. As I can understand, that's because our proxy denies all https connections Proxy could not open connnection to ***: Proxy Error ( The specified Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) port is not allowed. Forefront TMG is not configured to allow SSL requests from this port. Most Web browsers use port 443 for SSL requests. ) P.S. I use Windows 7, and corscskrew with cygwin, so Linux solutions not suitable for me.

  The setup I am trying to put together consists on a server connected to the internet (a redhat box) and 2 Apache Tomcat boxes not connected to the internet. Let's call the server Server and the two Apache Tomcats, Apache1 and Apache2. So, assuming my external IP is 102.1.1.1, Apache1 is 10.1.1.1 and Apache2 is 10.1.1.2, what I'm trying to configure is a reverse proxy so that if the request goes into http://102.1.1.1/mywebserver1/ it will be directed to Apache1 and if the request goes into http://102.1.1.1/mywebserver2/ it will be forwarded to Apache2. Now, I don't need a cache on the proxy since there is application sitting in those tomcats and each request needs to get a fresh answer. I searched for a while and I tried building this with Squid but i can't get it to work the way I need it. Anyone knows how to do this? What software do I need? How do I configure the reverse proxy? We want the user to enter his domain credentials in the LDAPAuth dialog box, and the proxy to reuse it to authenticate against our application. Or any application that uses NTLM. We've only got 1 AD domain behind the reverse proxy.

• Where can I find "system proxy settings"?

  Where are these system proxy settings? I noticed my connection has been slow for a while, then I checked the connection settings and was surprised there were set a proxy, but I cant see what exactly it is using. Where can I check which IP it was routing the connection for me ? Here is what I saw from Firefox (12.0) options: http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/4370/sysproxy.png As far as I can remember, it has always been "no proxy" and not "system proxy". Unless new firefox version has set that "system proxy" to default?
