  • Does sending e-mail in the name of customers increase the risk of being marked as spammer?

    Hi, We are developing a SaaS website application that lets users send invoices to their clients. Ideally, these e-mails should appear to be originating from our customers, so the sender e-mail address domain will not match the reverse IP entry for our server. In effect we would be forging their e-mail address, but of course with their consent. Will that result in a higher probability of being marked as a spammer / their e-mails being marked as spam? If yes, how bad is the penalty? And what about people who have an e-mail address originating form an SPF-enabled domain? I guess it should be the majority of the big e-mail providers.

  • Questions about Domains and DNS

    Hi, I am totally new to the DNS and server hosting world and not quite sure what I need. I want to get a domain, forward it to my own server, so that the user sees example.com in the url bar and example.com/foo/bar will work. Depending on what subdomain it is, it should do different things (another base-directory at webserver, ftp, etc). Also my email should be able to be sent to and received by that server. What irritates me, is the fact, that in the A-record I can only list IP-addresses and no ports. So do I have to set up a nameserver on my own server? Or do I accomplish this via vhosts on my webserver? I would appreciate any help or link to a tutorial. I know how DNS works, know some basic apache-stuff, etc... so no need to explain that. Thanks

  • Confusion about DNS for mail server

    We have migrated to Office365, everything is working except one company cannot email us as its connecting to our subdomains email server. So, We have companionsoftware.com.au hosted through office365 and all the required DNS entries. All seems to be working fine. We then have a web server hosting our website companionsoftware.com.au and our subdomain email attachments.companionsoftware.com.au (pop3/smtp). now for this one company when they try and email [email protected] it's connecting to STMP on attachments.companionsoftware.com.au. Now attachments.companionsoftware.com.au and companionsoftware.com.au have the same ip address, but this is only affecting one person (that we know of) when they try and email us. Have i configured something wrong or is it their server?

    While this may be a simple problem, I'm having a heck of a time coming up with a solution. I have a DataGrid with a ComboBox as an ItemRenderer for one of my columns. When the user selects a row, I want to get the ComboBox's selected value for the selected row. Any suggestions?   • Will having 2 MX records pointing to different mail server types cause delivery issues?

    I've inherited a setup where the mail server is exchange 2010. For some reason, I'm not sure why there is 2 MX records setup. One being the exchange server which is the higher priority while the external (non-exchange) server is the secondary mx record. I don't believe this was done for redundancy reasons as the other mail server is not set to route mail back to the exchange server (it's just the webhosts email for their hosting) The client has been experiencing disappearing email, however after my investigations its not actually disappearing, but exchange is successfully receiving the mail and then passing it on to the external server. It isn't happening all the time, just with some email messages from some domains. My question: Is exchange passing the mail on because it can see the secondary MX record and is configured (somewhere) to send mail out? If so, how do I stop it? Is it as easy as just removing the second MX record pointing to the external mail server and exchange will stop passing mail on? I'm not exchange expert so I'm kinda stumped. Exchange MX tools are saying everything is setup and configured correctly from an external point of view.

    Lets say I have a domain that I run a web app on, for example cranketywidgets.com, and I'm using google apps for handle email for people work work on that domain, i.e. support@ cranketywidgets.com, [email protected], [email protected] and so on. Google's own mail services aren't always the best for sending automated reminder emails, comment notifications and so on, so the current solution I plan to pursue is to create a separate subdomain called mailer.cranketywidgets.com, run a mail server off it, and create a few accounts specifically for sending these kinds of emails. What should the mx records and a records look like here for this? I'm somewhat confused by the fact that mx records can be names, but that they must eventually resolve to an A record. What should the records look like here? cranketywidgets.com - A record to actual server like 10.24.233.214 cranketywidgets.com - mx records for google's email apps mailer.cranketywidgets.com - mx name pointing to server's ip address Would greatly appeciate some help on this - the answer seems like it'll be obvious, but email spam is a difficult problem to solve.

    We have our own domain. Our email is hosted by Google Apps. We switched web servers and name servers to a new provider. In the switch, I forgot to move the MX record. When people tried to send emails to our domain, there was no bounce back. We fixed the MX record and now receive email. Is there anyway to retrieve the emails that were sent in the month when there was no MX record? I doubt it because there was no MX record on our name server. Where would the emails have gone since they did not bounce back?

    I've set up Google apps for my domain: I've registered the domain with Google by adding the CNAME Google asked and I've apparently succesfully setup the MX Google mail servers. So far I haven't yet a dedicated server: I'm just having a domain at a registrar. Now I want to activate SPF and I'm confused. In the following short webpage: http://www.google.com/support/a/bin/answer.py?answer=178723 it is written that I must add a TXT record containing: v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com ~all Where should I enter this? Should this go in the zone (?) file, like I did for the CNAME and the MX records?     In a Flex DataGrid's first row, the itemRenderer will initialize twice. Tracing the results reveals that the flex framework is possibly creating two instances of the first row's itemRenderer. In a more complex application, where the itemRenderer contains a data-bound ColorPicker, we're seeing an infinite loop occur because of this problem. Only the first row's itemRenderer is initialized twice. Is there a way to override flex's behavior and stop this from occurring?     I have a Logitech Anywhere MX mouse (wireless), when I connect it to the computer it doesn't work. The mouse works in other computers with Windows and with Fedora 17, but it doesn't work in two different computers with Ubuntu 12.04 and 12.10. Moreover these same computers work with another Microsoft wireless mouse. So I think the combination of Logitech MX and Ubuntu doesn't play well.     I am using Flex builder 3, BlazeDS, and Java with Spring and Hibernate framework. I using the remote object to load a string from spring's configuration files.     I'm having a problem displaying data from a function to text box within a tab. If you run the code and click "Select Tab 2 and Fill..." I get an error; "TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference." I'm guessing this is because "Tab 2" is/was not rendered yet. Now if I run the code, select "Tab 2" then select "Tab 1" and click "Select Tab 2 and Fill..." it works the way I would like.   • How can I have an mx:Window automatically resize to its content?

    I'm creating windows in a Flex application (AIR) using the mx:Window component. I'd like the window to be automatically sized to its content (because it will be dynamic), in the same way that an mx:Panel or mx:Box would be. I've customized components before, so I'm somewhat familiar with the UIComponent lifecycle, but I'm not quite sure how best to do the logic for auto-sizing a container. If it makes it easier, I'm not expecting that the window auto-size to its content at any time, thought that would be a bonus!

    So I'm really stuck on this issue. An install process is complaining about write permission on settings.php and sites/default/files/. However, I've moved these files temporarily to write/read (chmod 777) and changed the owner/group to "apache" as shown below. -bash-4.1$ ls -hal total 28K drwxrwxrwx. 3 richard richard 4.0K Aug 23 15:03 . drwxr-xr-x. 4 richard richard 4.0K Aug 18 14:20 .. -rwxrwxrwx. 1 apache apache 9.3K Mar 23 16:34 default.settings.php drwxrwxrwx. 2 apache apache 4.0K Aug 23 15:03 files -rwxrwxrwx. 1 apache apache 0 Aug 23 15:03 settings.php However, the install is still complaining about write permissions. I followed steps one and two of the INSTALL.txt but no luck. Update: To further explore the situation, I created sites/default/richard.php with the following code: <?php error_reporting(E_ALL); ini_set('display_errors', '1'); mkdir('files'); print("<hr> User is "); passthru("whoami"); passthru("pwd"); ?> Run from the command line (under user "richard"), no problem. The folder is created everything is a go.
