  • Get list of users belonging to a role using Authorization Manager (AzMan)

    Using ASP.NET (C#) I have set up Authorization Manager to allow me to handle roles on a website. Added users to roles is simple Roles.AddUserToRole("DOMAIN\\UserName", "role"). However I want to list the users belonging to a role, but since they are stored as SID's, displaying them would not be that helpful. To get the users, I am thinking XML would have to be used, although is it possible to use COM Interop to both do that and get the user name? Either way, how can I get the users belonging to a role? The table to manage roles would basically be like this: Role User ---- ---- admin DOMAIN\UserName [delete] DOMAIN\UserName2 [delete] [add user text box] news DOMAIN\UserName3 [delete] [add user text box]

    I am trying to write a module that will change a user's permissions once a node form is inserted into the database. I already have a role assigned when a user registers, but i want that role to be changed once they create a 'company' profile in this case which is when they fill out a cck form of 'company_post' type. My code is below... switch ($op) { case 'insert': if ($node->type == 'company_post') { } ? im not sure what to put in the if statement because I don't really know how to reference the users roles or how to change them. ?     According to MSDN, an azure service can conatins any number of worker roles. According to my knowledge a worker role can be recycled at any time by Windows Azure Fabric. If it is the true, then: Worker role should be state less OR Worker role should persist its state to Windows Azure storage services. But i want to make a service which conatains client data and do not want to use Azure storage service. How I can accomplish this?

  • How to save one role implementing a client/server pattern in Azure?

    Sometimes you need to have an instance performing a server role when other instances are playing the client role. An example can be a file sharing like in this great post: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/mariok/archive/2011/02/11/sharing-folders-in-azure.aspx, one instance shares a folder that all other instances are using to write files that the server processes. The problem is that there is not discovering mechanism in Azure that allows one instance to know where the instance acting as a server is located. A first approach can be having a server role and a client role like in the previous post. This means more instances, more money. A solution to save this "server" role is to use Instance 0, always available, to act as a server. An instance can know that it should act as the server checking RoleEnvironment.CurrentRoleInstance.Id.EndsWith(".0"). Other instances can iterate the RoleEnvironment Instances collection to find the instance whose name ends with ".0", getting its endpoints and acting as its clients.

  • Can Capistrano set variables based on a role?

    I am trying to use Capistrano to deploy to two different roles, using Bundler on both, however the Bundler command and flags will be different. Is it possible to set variables that are specific to a role? Either something like: set :bundle_flags, "--deployment --quiet", :role => "web" or: role :web do set :bundler_cmd, "--deployment --quiet" end Neither of those two options work, of course. Is there a way to accomplish this, or something like it?

  • Windows SBS 2011 DNS Role (service) failing & needing restarting

    Have a Windows SBS 2011 with Exchange that is handling all DNS for the network. Since getting a 3rd party (Hardware & Support) to setup a recieving FTP service and restricting Exchanges memory useage for another 3rd party product (Stock software) the local network seems to periodically 'lose the internet connection'. Delving deeper I found that the DNS service is somehow failing/stopping without the actual service on the server reporting such (nothing in event logs). A simple restart of the 'DNS Role' on the server solves the problem. The manager onsite reports that he has to do this most days in the afternoon - yet not at the same time and other days it works fine without a restart being required. I'm unable (lacking sufficient SBS2011 knowledge) to diagnose this further, ideally I would like the DNS Role to report (and log) the failure, then automatically restart itself.

  • MWS2K8R2: Enabling Media Sharing using Streaming Media Services Role

    So I have a Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 that stores a large collection of media (mostly mp3s) and I want to be able to deliver these files using a server/client setup with Windows Media Player being the client. I downloaded and installed Streaming Media Services Role. I even setup a publishing point with on-demand access. My issue is I can connect using WMP12 but it only connects as more of a stream and not a shared library. I can pause/play/skip as if it's a powerful radio station which is ok in my book but what I'd really like to do is allow me to control my music remotely, search and play for artists, maybe create playlists (not required but nice) and even connect it to an xbox. Is Streaming Media Services Role not what I should be using for this? Would installing WMP and sharing using that mechanism be a better option? Any Ideas?

    I want to use the Interval Role in Darwin streaming server,more specifically i want to call the QTSS_SetIntervalRoleTimer() when the server starts streaming a video file.But i have problem in doing this as from what it seems,the method returns QTSS_Err when i do that. I believe that the problem is due to the fact that the callback is made in a a module-created thread. Is there a specific place where this callback must be done?(if i put the callback in the register role of my module it works,but i dont want this,because i dont want the timer starting when the server starts).Any help will be useful,thank u in advance.

  • Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Gateway Role and IIS7

    I am attempting to setup a RD Gateway for a client. When I first set it up I noticed that IIS did not have the 'Defualt Web Site' so I created it and assigned it an id of 1 and set the bindings to port 80 and 443. I then re installed the RD Gateway role with the idea that it would then configure IIS correctly. It did not. How would I go about making sure a re install of the Remote Desktop Gateway role configures IIS correctly? I cannot re install IIS as there is a site that is already on there that I cannot take down

  • DNS Issue Windows 2003 AD-The server holding the PDC role is down

    Our network of Windows 2003 and Windows 2008 servers suddenly hasDNS issues. There are 7 DCs. Two at our main office and one each at branch sites (one branch has two a 2008R2 and WIN2K3) Only two are WIN2008R2 Running DCDIAG on the WIN2K3 at main site (DC1) reports no issues. Running at any branch site reports two issues All other test pass. The server DC1 can be PINGed by name from any site Starting test: frsevent There are warning or error events within the last 24 hours after the SYSVOL has been shared. Failing SYSVOL replication problems may cause Group Policy problems. Starting test: FsmoCheck Warning: DcGetDcName(PDC_REQUIRED) call failed, error 1355 A Primary Domain Controller could not be located. The server holding the PDC role is down. Netdom.exe /query DC reports the expected servers. netdom query fsmo This reports the server at the main office holds the following roles: * Schema owner Domain role owner PDC role RID pool manager Infrastructure owner In the DNS management snap-in, DC1 appears as DNS server but does not appear in _msdcs-dc-_sites-Default-First-Site-Name-_TCP There is no _ldap or –kerberos record pointing to DC1 Same issue msdcs-dc-_sites- -_TCP Again there is no _ldap or –kerberos record pointing to DC1 Under Domain DNS Zones there is no entry for the server. This is the case for any _tcp folder in the DNS. The server DC1 appears correctly as a name server in the Reverse Lookup Zone. There is a Host(A) record for DC1 but in the Forward Lookup Zone there is no (same as parent folder) Host(A) for the DC1 server but such an entry exists for the other DCs at branch sites and the other DC at the main office. We have tried stopping and starting the netlogon service, restarting DNS and also dcdiag /fix. Netdiag reports error: Trust relationship test. . . . . . : Failed [FATAL] Secure channel to domain 'XXX' is broken. [ERROR_NO_LOGON_SERVERS] [WARNING] Failed to query SPN registration on DC- One entry for each branch DC All braches lsit the problem server and it can be Pinged by name from any branch Fixing is number one priority but also would like to determine the casue.

    I have heard some service providers (or cloud providers), hosting companies and such complain, criticize or even venture to call foul on Microsoft’s Azure VM Role.  The problem:  None of them have gone through the effort of truly understanding (or perhaps not wanting to know) what is going on there.  Many have jumped right into the “purist” definition of IaaS, or PaaS for that matter. Ok, Buck’s post is a true gem (my opinion) in the sense it gives you parallels of what the VM Role is and is not.  And it brings Hyper-V and SCVMM to the forefront explaining what it is and what it also offers to the IaaS Microsoft offers. Here is an excerpt of the summary, but please go on over to read his post it will clear a lot if you are wondering when and how to use the Windows Azure VM Role. The excerpt: “Virtualizing servers alone has limitations of scale, availability and recovery. Microsoft’s offering in this area is Hyper-V and System Center, not the VM Role.     I have a problem with playing online mp3s. I'm using latest version of javazoom's jlayer and basicplayer.     playing Portal 2 will always give me blue screen of death, usually after about 10 minutes of playing. BSOD references atikmpag.sys. I have tried several updates for graphics driver and through ATI Catalyst Center. I have updated the motherboard BIOS. My RAM is OK. Nothing changes. I had previously run the game fine, then I removed my video card to use on-board graphics once, and after re-installing the video card, I get this problem every time. I am using: ATI Radeon 4800 ASRockH61M/U3S3 motherboard Windows 7 64-bit

  • Laptop changes closing lid power options based on media/music playing

    Hi, This is on a Lenovo X60 running Windows 7 Professional. This is just a pet peeve of mine, but I was wondering if it were somehow possible to have my laptop autodetect whether any media/music is playing on and change/switch the "Close lid" options under Power Options, ie. when something is playing change state to "Do Nothing" otherwise change state to "Sleep". I guess I can probably set a some key combo up with AutoHotKey to do it, but was hoping Windows could detect and switch my Power Options automatically. Thanks.

I need a plugin for Winamp that will send the current playing track information to a PHP script, via GET or POST. I have almost no requirements... it can be the name/artist, or the filename (preferred). No fancy functionality needed, just something basic!   • Looking for Your Next Challenge...Don't Stretch Too Far

    In my role as a Recruiter at Oracle I receive a large number of resumes of people who are interested in working with us. People contact me for a number of reasons, it can be about a specific role that we may be hiring for or they may send me an email asking if there are any suitable roles for them. Sometimes when I speak to people we have similar roles available to the roles that they may actually be in now. Sometimes people are interested in making this type of sideways move if their motivation to change jobs is not necessarily that they are looking for increased responsibility or career advancement (example: money, redundancy, work environment). However there are times when after walking through a specific role with a candidate that they may say to me - "You know that is very similar to the role that I am doing now. I would not want to move unless my next role presents me with the next challenge in my career". This is a far statement - if a person is looking to change jobs for the next step in their career they should be looking at suitable opportunities that will address their need. In this instance a sideways step will not really present any new challenges or responsibilities. The main change would be the company they are working for. Candidates looking for a new role because they are looking to move up the ladder should be looking for a role that offers them the next level of responsibility. I think the best job changes for people who are looking for career advancement are the roles that stretch someone outside of their comfort zone but do not stretch them so much that they can't cope with the added responsibilities and pressure. In my head I often think of this example in the same context of an elastic band - you can stretch it, but only so much before it snaps. That is what you should be looking for - to be stretched but not so much that you snap. If you are for example in an individual contributor role and would like to move into a management role - you may not be quite ready to take on a role that is managing a large workforce or requires significant people management experience. While your intentions may be right, your lack of management experience may fit you outside of the scope of search to be successful this type of role. In this example you can move from an individual contributor role to a management role but it may need to be managing a smaller team rather than a larger team. While you are trying to make this transition you can try to pick up some responsibilities in your current role that would give you the skills and experience you need for your next role. Never be afraid to put your hand up to help on a new project or piece of work. You never know when that newly gained experience may come in handy in your career.     I would like to ask members of the community about the role of Configuration Manager, as you see it. I'm not asking what Configuration Management is, as long it had been asked before. What I need to know is: What tasks do you think Configuration Manager should perform (or performs) in your team? What is primary responsibility of Configuration Manager? What are secondary/auxiliary responsibilities of Configuration Manager? Does Configuration Manager need to be in charge of development processes on the project/company or he should be told what to do? What are relations between Configuration Manager, Build Manager, Release Manager, Deployment Engineer, CI Engineer roles? Aren't they all the same - Configuration Management? Maybe term Configuration Management is redundant and Technical/Team Lead should do all the related work instead? It would be really great if you could share your vision and experience.

  • Ubuntu 10.04 freezing and Ctrl + Alt + Backspace does nothing but music keeps playing

    I'm having intermittent problems where the screen will freeze in Ubuntu. I've tried using Ctrl + Alt + Backspace to restart the X-server, though this does nothing. When the freeze occurs, there's a small square of black dashes around the mouse pointer - maybe 1 inch in size. These dashes look a lot like a 2d barcode. The rest of the screen looks normal, but I can't move the mouse and none of the keyboard shortcuts work to do anything. However, music that I begin playing before the freeze continues to play, which seems to indicate it hasn't stalled up completely. I've noticed a similar freezing problem when I'm using Windows 7. That is, I see the same barcode like dashes around the mouse pointer when it freezes up. So I'm guessing it's either a driver or hardware problem. I thought if it was a hardware problem though, the whole computer might stop working (i.e. music would stop playing)? The video card I am using is an Nvidia, and I believe it's in the 7600 range. In Ubuntu I have the drivers for the card set to the latest available (proprietary). Ideally I'd like to be able to continue using the proprietary drivers. Is there any known issues with the drivers for this model graphics card, or has anyone experienced the same problem and knows how to fix it?

  • Loss of network connectivity when playing video on Optoma HD180 projector

    Hi Folks - New to Super User, so I hope this question fits in with the guidelines. Very strange problem I am having, and I am at a loss as to how to continue troubleshooting this one. The basic problem is that when I attempt to watch streamed video on a particular display device (an Optoma HD180 projector), my network connectivity drops like a stone to barely measurable levels. This is my setup: I have a Dell H2C 730x running Windows 7 64bit. This particular computer has two ATI Radeon HD 4800 video cards. I have two Samsung 22" monitors connected to one card, and an Optoma HD180 digital projector connected to the other card via an HDMI cable. My internet connection is normally a reliable 6Mbps. The problem I am having occurs when I stream video (or even just browse the web) on the Optoma Projector. When I do this, my internet connection drops to practically zero (just a few kilobits per second). When I move the browser away from the projector, and over to one of my Samsung monitors, the internet connection comes right back. Note that the Optoma projector is on and enabled as a third monitor all this time. I can move the mouse around on the projector without triggering the problem. I tried pinging my router when I was playing a movie on one of the monitors, and I get a 1 millisecond response. However, when I have the movie playing on the Optoma projecter, pinging the router gives me response times in the hundreds of milliseconds, or times out completely. So, it clearly is something local to my machine - and not some sort of throttling occurring down the line. I would think that it is possibly something to do with the HDMI driver conflicting somehow with my network driver (which is a USB-based wireless connection). This one has me really stumped. Anyone have any ideas?
