  • In-app settings controlled by plist?

    Is there a library or good tutorial which covers creating in-app settings, like this: http://img.skitch.com/20090625-s8bf6ahybwe3cesd1id38h3nt.jpg What I would like is if it: doesn't use the built-in Settings app is controlled by a plist file with various Dictionaries and Arrays creates a nice looking table view allows text fields as well as switches and sliders and ticks etc doesn't have any of the annoying problems I've come across when trying to build my own version (not scrolling to show the textfield, cells disappearing) It would appear that the iphone dev world is crying out for such a thing.   • Best way to load application settings

    A simple way to keep the settings of a Java application is represented by a text file with ".properties" extension containing the identifier of each setting associated with a specific value (this value may be a number, string, date, etc..). C# uses a similar approach, but the text file must be named "App.config". In both cases, in source code you must initialize a specific class for reading settings: this class has a method that returns the value (as string) associated with the specified setting identifier. // Java example Properties config = new Properties(); config.load(...); String valueStr = config.getProperty("listening-port"); // ... // C# example NameValueCollection setting = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings; string valueStr = setting["listening-port"]; // ... In both cases we should parse strings loaded from the configuration file and assign the ??converted values to the related typed objects (parsing errors could occur during this phase). After the parsing step, we must check that the setting values ??belong to a specific domain of validity: for example, the maximum size of a queue should be a positive value, some values ??may be related (example: min < max), and so on. Suppose that the application should load the settings as soon as it starts: in other words, the first operation performed by the application is to load the settings. Any invalid values for the settings ??must be replaced automatically with default values??: if this happens to a group of related settings, those settings are all set with default values. The easiest way to perform these operations is to create a method that first parses all the settings, then checks the loaded values ??and finally sets any default values??.   • How can I make my eth0 connection default on startup?

    I'm running kubuntu 9.10 and every time I log in auto eth0 is used instead of my custom connection called "batnet". I have batnet set to automatically connect, but despite this it is ignored and the default auto eth0 is used instead. This would be fine IF I could somehow figure out how to define a static ip for auto eth0. I would prefer to just make the 'batnet' connection default. How can I do this?

  • c# application and configuration settings

    Hi, I never used Settings class before but I found some articles on CodeProject which I'm currently reading (for example http://www.codeproject.com/KB/cs/PropertiesSettings.aspx) but so far I didn't see how to save string array for getting it after application is started next time. For example my application has several FileSystemWatcher instances, with each instance several other directories are connected (for example one FSW instance is monitoring one directory for a change and when it happens it copies some file to several other directories), so I would have one string array with watched paths representing FSW instances, and string array for each of those paths, representing directories that are affected. My question is, what should I use (Settings class or something else), and how should I use that for storing application configuration that is variable number of string arrays? Emphasize is on something I could use very soon as I don't have too much time to make custom class (but would have to if I cannot find solution) or dig into some obscure hacks. Any tutorial link, code snippet would be very helpful. Thanks.

    Hello to all, i'd like to substitute the default preferences setting activity (vertical, icon-title pair list) with a grid view that better fit a large landscape display. About, let's say, the audio preferences, i add an icon to a GridView and, on item click event, i use this code startActivityForResult(new Intent(android.provider.Settings.ACTION_SOUND_SETTINGS), 0); Is it possible to get the default settings icon? If i could use an ipotetic getDrawable(android.R.drawable.default_icon_for_audio_preferences_settings), I would to maintain the default icon also in my preferences grid. A preferences provider exists? Looking at my development device preferences i can see Wireless, call, audio, display and so on. I have to add the same preferences to my grid because i know a priori about their existence or there is a provider that can supply me this array? Thanks in advance L.

    When configuring a Settings.bundle as part of an iPhone application bundle, it's trivial to add minimum and maximum value images to sliders (PSSliderSpecifier), but not simple maximum and minimum text labels. http://developer.apple.com/iPhone/library/documentation/PreferenceSettings/Conceptual/SettingsApplicationSchemaReference/Articles/PSSliderSpecifier.html iPhone gurus: Is anyone aware of a simple means to apply text labels to these sliders for use within the Settings application (therefore, no slider subclassing shenanigans; it all has to be done via a plist)? I suppose I could just use an image of the label but...ew. Bonus points if there's a way to show the current value of a slider in some sort of number format.

  • diffstrings.py : how do you specify path arguments?

    I am trying to use diffstrings.py from Three20 on my iPhone project, and I can't find the proper format for the path arguments (as in "Usage: diffstrings.py [options] path1 path2 ..."). For example, when I run the script in my Xcode project directory like this ~/py/diffstrings.py -b it analyzes just the main.m and finds 0 strings to localize, then it diffs against existing fr.lproj and others, and finds that thes contain "obsolete strings". Can anyone post examples of successful comand line invocations of diffstrings.py, for options -b, -d and -m?

  • Ubuntu won't save my settings for thinkpad trackpoint

    I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 on a Thinkpad X200. To configure the trackpoint, I use "configure TrackPoint". Unfortunately I can't make Ubuntu saving my settings (concerning the sensitivity etc.). Whenever I reboot the computer, it's set to generic settings again. I already tried htorque's answer to a similar question and created a new udev-rule for the trackpoint-settings but it didn't helped. So, how can I make theses settings permanent?

  • /usr/share/apport/apport-gpu-error-intel.py Error

    I was on Ubuntu 12.10 and ran the system updates and after the re-install, the system became unstable and kept prompting me with the message "System Issue" and this as the error per Ubuntu "/usr/share/apport/apport-gpu-error-intel.py". After I tried re-starting, the issue is still appearing and the system ultimately freezes (requiring a hard reset). I tried a clean install of 12.10 and the system works fine until the newest updates are applied...it then returns to the same messages. I then tried a clean install of 12.04 LTS and just like 12.10 it works until the latest updates are applied. On 12.04, I tried to use the previous kernel - going from 3.5.0-26 to 3.5.0-23 and the issue is still there. Currently, I'm sitting on 12.04 LTS clean install without doing the updates and the system is working. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this? Thanks.

    I have VS2010 Ultimate on my dev machine, along with ReSharper, VSCommands2010 and few others. settings for vs2010, resharper, and other plugins get reset every once in a while - so i have to go in and set them up again, then restart VS for new settings to kick in. examples of settings i'm talking about: *resharper intellisense ingreation *resharper highlite current line *resharper participation in customer program (systray icon) *VSCommands2010 regex solution name *etc. is it possible to make VS remember all those settings once and forever.

  • Images missing after moving Django to new server

    I'm moving Django project to new server. I'm newbie in Django, and I don't know where should be upload folder. There are all images which should be displayed on website. In config file I haven't seen upload folder I could specify, so I'm guessing it always should be the same location for django projects or I just can't find it. Locations are saved in database. When I've put uploaded files into media folder, so url was like domain.co.uk/media/upload/media/images/year/month/day/image_name.ext and the same is on the old website, images on website ware still missing. All images are visible if I put url by hand, but django doesn't seems to see files.     It's failing with this when I run eclipse or when I run my script in iPython: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xe2 in position 32: ordinal not in range(128) I don't know why, but when I simply execute the feedparse.parse(url) statement using the same url, there is no error thrown. This is stumping me big time.   • Implementing Database Settings Using Policy Based Management

    Introduction Database Administrators have always had a tough time to ensuring that all the SQL Servers administered by them are configured according to the policies and standards of organization. Using SQL Server’s  Policy Based Management feature DBAs can now manage one or more instances of SQL Server 2008 and check for policy compliance issues. In this article we will utilize Policy Based Management (aka Declarative Management Framework or DMF) feature of SQL Server to implement and verify database settings on all production databases. It is best practice to enforce the below settings on each Production database. However, it can be tedious to go through each database and then check whether the below database settings are implemented across databases. In this article I will explain it to you how to utilize the Policy Based Management Feature of SQL Server 2008 to create a policy to verify these settings on all databases and in cases of non-complaince how to bring them back into complaince. Database setting to enforce on each user database : Auto Close and Auto Shrink Properties of database set to False Auto Create Statistics and Auto Update Statistics set to True Compatibility Level of all the user database set as 100 Page Verify set as CHECKSUM Recovery Model of all user database set to Full Restrict Access set as MULTI_USER Configure a Policy to Verify Database Settings 1. Connect to SQL Server 2008 Instance using SQL Server Management Studio 2. In the Object Explorer, Click on Management > Policy Management and you will be able to see Policies, Conditions & Facets as child nodes 3. Right click Policies and then select New Policy…. from the drop down list as shown in the snippet below to open the  Create New Policy Popup window. 4. In the Create New Policy popup window you need to provide the name of the policy as “Implementing and Verify Database Settings for Production Databases” and then click the drop down list under Check Condition. As highlighted in the snippet below click on the New Condition… option to open up the Create New Condition window. 5. In the Create New Condition popup window you need to provide the name of the condition as “Verify and Change Database Settings”. In the Facet drop down list you need to choose the Facet as Database Options as shown in the snippet below. Under Expression you need to select Field value as @AutoClose and then choose Operator value as ‘ = ‘ and finally choose Value as False. Now that you have successfully added the first field you can now go ahead and add rest of the fields as shown in the snippet below. Once you have successfully added all the above shown fields of Database Options Facet, click OK to save the changes and to return to the parent Create New Policy – Implementing and Verify Database Settings for Production Database windows where you will see that the newly created condition “Verify and Change Database Settings” is selected by default.
