  • Stripes for Java Web Dev, is it worth learning ? Is it easier ? how it compared to Struts ?

    I am tired of Java web, and started to learn Ruby on Rails because of that, but I just found this Framework and it looks promessing... But I am not in the mood to study more Java, so I would like to know if this one is worth my time ( that would mean, less configuration and action mapping and so on) Is it better then Struts 2(WebWorks) ??? because those are way better then Struts 1 but still not a RoR. Spring MVC ? I would like a Hands On Opnion, not a specs compare. Thanks !

  • How to access valuestack objects within struts iterator?

    I have following code - <s:iterator value="reviews"> <img src="<s:property value="#request.restaurant.portalImage.url" />" /> <s:property value="user.firstName" /> <s:property value="user.lastName" /> <s:property value="rating" /> <s:property value="review" /> </s:iterator> reviews is a list of review objects which contain details of a review, such as rating and name of user. My problem is that i'm not able to access any of the objects present on the valuestack within the loop. Outside the loop <s:property value="#request.restaurant.portalImage.url" /> works correctly. But within the loop it prints null. AFAIK an iterator pushes it's collection on the valuestack so that all ognl expressions resolve against it. But I've used # which means I'm explicitly specifying the root object for resolution. Why is it still not working?

  • How useful is a 'pure' MVC implementation?

    I work at a company that provides custom made 'CRM'-like software. We are currently redesigning/redeveloping the software with the hopes that it will look more modern and be easier to develop and customize for future clients. Currently it takes a long time to customize each new application. There is a presumption that the reason it takes so long is because of the amount of business logic that is present in the 'view' layer. To some extent I can vouch for this being true, but symptoms don't always reliably point out a cause. There was a suggestion that if we just move the business logic to the controller layer and use pure view (we use java J2EE and struts) as in implementing struts tags instead of calling the bean layer and iterating objects right on the jsp - etc etc. Before I start advocating we go forward with this, I wanted to get a feeling for what other people thought. Does a "pure" implementation of the MVC (especially emphasis on decoupling the controller and the view) provide a cleaner, easier to develop and change code base?

    I had been told to deploy a *.war file within tomcat and this application should be working fine. But for an unknown reason all I get is: System Exception: javax.servlet.jsp.JspException: ValidatorResources not found in application scope under key "org.apache.commons.validator.VALIDATOR_RESOURCES" I know that this application has been developed with STRUTS and I can obtain the source. But as I am not a specialist in this field, I come to ask for some help. Could you tell me what file could generate this exception please?

  • dynamic 404.jsp using struts

    I would like to display an intelligent 404 page with some application data. Currently, there is a 'dumb' jsp, so I just forward to the view and I am done with it. But now I guess I really need to forward to an action so that I can set some more data to display on the error.jsp. How do I do it through configuration via struts-config? I need congifuration because I do not want to touch any individual files that might be forwarding to the existing view. I tried doing the fol, but I get an error and I dont see anything in the log. So currently, <forward name="ErrorView" path="/Error404.jsp" type="org.apache.struts.action.ActionForward"> </forward> What I want: <forward name="ErrorView" path="/errorAction.do" type="org.apache.struts.action.ActionForward"> </forward>

  • [struts 2] How do you iterate through a list of objects?

    I have a User class that has a String username in it. I have a list of users that I'm trying to display in a table using <s:iterator value="users" id="list"> <tr> <td><s:property value="#list.username" /></td> <td></td> <td></td> <td></td> </tr> </s:iterator> The rows are being displayed the right number of times, so it's iterating through my list properly. However, I don't know how to access the username property to display it. Obviously what I have above isn't correct... Any ideas?

  • Using struts 2 with no tags

    Hi everyone, I wonder if you could guide me on this struts issue - I feel hopeless on this... I am working on migrating our web application to a Struts 2 portlet (I'm using Struts 2.1.8). The thing is, I am forced to avoid struts tags because our application relies on Dijit widgets, which are omitted when using struts tags. So now I should implement the <s:form tag using scriptlets. My question is: how you would suggest I imitate the way struts handles the "action" attribute? Right now it appears I should: Create a regular html form in my jsp. Get/create the ActionConfig object during onsubmit and set on it values which match my desired destination: class+method+result jsp. Execute the action I set in 2. Would you recommend this? If so - is ActionConfig obtained from the session? Can I initiate an action execution from ActionConfig? (Aletrnatively... generating an action url using struts' form.vm file - what do you say?) I would appreciate any help on this - Thanks a lot in advance!!!

    i am trying to change the input field when users changes the quantity of items in a text field. Here i am iterating my list from my database. Now i have to make invoice for customer. In my code , if i am changing quantity of a single item, then it is effecting all the other items in the list. I want to change only to the specific items,where its quantity has been change.   • Changing Dropdown based on Other Dropdown Menu

    I've seen a few questions like this, but mine is a bit more specific so I hope this isn't considered a repost. I am working on a website that is built with struts 2 and hibernate. I need to dynamically populate a drop down menu using data from a sql query based on an option selected in another drop down menu. So basically when the first option is selected I need to rehit the server and get the results from a query like SELECT column FROM table WHERE option = dropDownOption On top of that, I would really like to use ajax to only refresh the affected elements, however I'm really unfamiliar with ajax. I have jquery on this project and I found they have some ajax built in, but is this a good method for using it? any advice on this topic would be appreciated.

    How do I clear the value from the stack of a s:iterator? I'm trying to iterator over a TreeMultimap with a structure like: TreeMultimap<person, lineItems> persons; Using something like: <s:iterator value="attendeesForParticipantTypeEvents.asMap()"> <div> <s:property value="key.name" /><br /> <s:iterator id="currentSku" value="value"> <s:property value="currentSku.name" /><br /> </s:iterator> </div> </s:iterator> This works fine, except when the treeMultimap has null for lineItems, then it's taking the value from the previous iteration. So, a structure like: persons = {{"Person1",["Line1","line2"]}, {"Person2",["Line3","line4"]}, {"Person2",null}} Renders as: <div> Person1<br /> Line1<br /> Line2<br /> </div> <div> Person2<br /> Line3<br /> Line4<br /> </div> <div> Person3<br /> Line3<br /> Line4<br /> </div> Which seems to indicate that the value isn't being cleared on each iterator. I thought this might work, so either modelId or id could be passed in: public class OtherAction extends ModelDrivenAction<ModelObj> { @Override public void prepare() { model = repoService.retrieveModelById(id); } public void setModelId(Long modelId) { this.id = modelId; } } However, server/path/to/other!method?modelId=123 is failing to set id. I thought so long as a setter matched a parameter name the Struts interceptor would call it on action invocation. Am I missing something here?

  • Why does "return ERROR" only work with exceptions?

    In the struts.xml I use: <result name="error">error</result> Then in my action I use: addActionError("ERROR RETURNED"); return ERROR; When I submit the form then it just goes to a blank page and does nothing. However, if I FORCE an exception to be thrown in the action then it goes to the error page and shows the ActionError message. So am I doing this wrong? If so, how should I tell struts to show an error page using "if statements" instead of relying solely on expensive try catches?   • Struts 2: redirect-action ? From on page to another and back again.

    Hello, i have a jsp page that has a submit button. This button is linked with another jsp page. So lets assume my stuts file looks like this: B.jsp So now the submit button being on page "A.jsp" will take me to B.jsp. This works. The problem is that i want to do the following: press on the submit button on page A.jsp , go to B.jsp where i will press again a button and go back to A.jsp . The problem is that to page B.jsp go many pages, so B.jsp has to know when pressing the submit button to which page will take me back , in this case A.jsp again. So in a few words, B.jsp has to know from which page i came from so that i can go back again by pressing a submit button (this could be a parameter that would be sent back to A.jsp again, but does not really matter at the current point) A.jsp - B.jsp - A.jsp C.jsp - B.jsp - C.jsp
