  • How can I get Eclipse to insert tabs instead of spaces for Java content assist?

    Is there any way to persuade Eclipse to use tabs instead of spaces for indenting its built-in Java content assist proposals (such as when creating an empty method which overrides a method in the parent class)? The only setting I could find that looked relevant is in Windows/Preferences/General/Editors/Text Editors/Insert spaces for tabs, and this setting is unchecked. At the moment I have to remember to select them and re-format with <Ctrl>+<Shift>+<F>.

  • How to configure VPN in Windows XP

    VPN Overview A VPN is a private network created over a public one. It’s done with encryption, this way, your data is encapsulated and secure in transit – this creates the ‘virtual’ tunnel. A VPN is a method of connecting to a private network by a public network like the Internet. An internet connection in a company is common. An Internet connection in a Home is common too. With both of these, you could create an encrypted tunnel between them and pass traffic, safely - securely. If you want to create a VPN connection you will have to use encryption to make sure that others cannot intercept the data in transit while traversing the Internet. Windows XP provides a certain level of security by using Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) or Layer Two Tunneling Protocol (L2TP). They are both considered tunneling protocols – simply because they create that virtual tunnel just discussed, by applying encryption. Configure a VPN with XP If you want to configure a VPN connection from a Windows XP client computer you only need what comes with the Operating System itself, it's all built right in. To set up a connection to a VPN, do the following: 1. On the computer that is running Windows XP, confirm that the connection to the Internet is correctly configured. • You can try to browse the internet • Ping a known host on the Internet, like yahoo.com, something that isn’t blocking ICMP 2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel. 3. In Control Panel, double click Network Connections 4. Click Create a new connection in the Network Tasks task pad 5. In the Network Connection Wizard, click Next. 6. Click Connect to the network at my workplace, and then click Next. 7. Click Virtual Private Network connection, and then click Next. 8. If you are prompted, you need to select whether you will use a dialup connection or if you have a dedicated connection to the Internet either via Cable, DSL, T1, Satellite, etc. Click Next. 9. Type a host name, IP or any other description you would like to appear in the Network Connections area. You can change this later if you want. Click Next. 10. Type the host name or the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the computer that you want to connect to, and then click Next. 11. You may be asked if you want to use a Smart Card or not. 12. You are just about done, the rest of the screens just verify your connection, click Next. 13. Click to select the Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop check box if you want one, if not, then leave it unchecked and click finish. 14. You are now done making your connection, but by default, it may try to connect. You can either try the connection now if you know its valid, if not, then just close it down for now. 15. In the Network Connections window, right-click the new connection and select properties. Let’s take a look at how you can customize this connection before it’s used. 16. The first tab you will see if the General Tab. This only covers the name of the connection, which you can also rename from the Network Connection dialog box by right clicking the connection and selecting to rename it. You can also configure a First connect, which means that Windows can connect the public network (like the Internet) before starting to attempt the ‘VPN’ connection. This is a perfect example as to when you would have configured the dialup connection; this would have been the first thing that you would have to do. It's simple, you have to be connected to the Internet first before you can encrypt and send data over it. This setting makes sure that this is a reality for you. 17. The next tab is the Options Tab. It is The Options tab has a lot you can configure in it. For one, you have the option to connect to a Windows Domain, if you select this check box (unchecked by default), then your VPN client will request Windows logon domain information while starting to work up the VPN connection. Also, you have options here for redialing. Redial attempts are configured here if you are using a dial up connection to get to the Internet. It is very handy to redial if the line is dropped as dropped lines are very common. 18. The next tab is the Security Tab. This is where you would configure basic security for the VPN client. This is where you would set any advanced IPSec configurations other security protocols as well as requiring encryption and credentials. 19. The next tab is the Networking Tab. This is where you can select what networking items are used by this VPN connection. 20. The Last tab is the Advanced Tab. This is where you can configure options for configuring a firewall, and/or sharing. Connecting to Corporate Now that you have your XP VPN client all set up and ready, the next step is to attempt a connection to the Remote Access or VPN server set up at the corporate office. To use the connection follow these simple steps. To open the client again, go back to the Network Connections dialog box. 1. One you are in the Network Connection dialog box, double-click, or right click and select ‘Connect’ from the menu – this will initiate the connection to the corporate office. 2. Type your user name and password, and then click Connect. Properties bring you back to what we just discussed in this article, all the global settings for the VPN client you are using. 3. To disconnect from a VPN connection, right-click the icon for the connection, and then click “Disconnect” Summary In this article we covered the basics of building a VPN connection using Windows XP. This is very handy when you have a VPN device but don’t have the ‘client’ that may come with it. If the VPN Server doesn’t use highly proprietary protocols, then you can use the XP client to connect with. In a future article I will get into the nuts and bolts of both IPSec and more detail on how to configure the advanced options in the Security tab of this client. 678: The remote computer did not respond. 930: The authentication server did not respond to authentication requests in a timely fashion. 800: Unable to establish the VPN connection. 623: The system could not find the phone book entry for this connection. 720: A connection to the remote computer could not be established.   • Can&rsquo;t eject external USB or Firewire drive in Windows 7

    As a SharePoint developer, I work a lot with Virtual Machines (presently using Windows Virtual PC, with Windows 7).  I’m using these VMs with my laptop, and in order to get better performance, I’ve moved them to external hard drives.  (These drives have faster RPMs, larger caches, and a larger capacity, than the internal drive.)  I have one large external drive at home, another similar drive at the office, and a small, slow portable drive that I carry with me. So, at the end of each day at the office, I copy the files from the external drive to my portable drive and then once I get home, I copy them from the portable to the larger external drive I leave at home.  I do this for a couple of reasons: so I can work at home and secondly, so I have backup copies.  (Often, I feel like I’m in the movie “Office Space” when copying the files before I leave the office). Anyway, after the files are copied, I safely eject the external drives, and then hibernate my laptop.  I’ve been doing this for over a year now, but within the last couple of months I started to have issues disconnecting the drives.  Intermittently, some application/process would have a lock on some file on the drive that would keep Windows from safely ejecting it. After looking into it, I found that it was actually the Windows search service that was accessing the drive! Since I wasn’t using Windows search to look for stuff on these drives, I removed them as locations to index. To do this in Windows 7, you need to go to Indexing Options (just type “Indexing” into the search box in the Start menu…).  One of the choices displayed will then be Indexing Options, so click on it and you should then see a window similar to this:   Click on the Modify button and you’ll see this window: Notice the different drives listed above.  My “FreeAgent XTreme (F:)” drive was checked for some reason, which was causing the indexing service to scan the drive looking for new files to make available in the search results.  Ever since I unchecked this box, I’ve been able to safely eject the drive.

  • Changing Windows Media Center StartRecording Task Scheduler options

    Hi, I'm experiencing some occasional crashes waking from sleep and I believe it may be related to the Corsair SSD F40GB2 as my boot disk...or the new Ceton tuner I recently installed... I dunno what the real problem is as I can't reproduce the problem manually. I read somewhere that I should not allow the hard disks to sleep...so I'm trying that in the meantime... At any rate, I don't really care that the computer crashes so long as WMC will start recording the task as soon as possible...the task is scheduled to wake the computer 5 minutes before the recording starts. I noticed that there is a StartRecording param in the Media Center folder in Task Scheduler. There is an option (currently unchecked) that will retry a failed task. I would like to know if there is a way to enable that checkbox. My hope is that if my PC crashes when waking up for this task, that after it reboots the task will trigger again and start recording. Thanks!

I have installed FreeSSHd and set the command shell to "c:\cygwin\bin\sh --login -i" (bash as well) with "Use new console engine" unchecked.   • How do I make Chrome's Omnibar behave more like the Firefox Awesome bar?

    One of my favorite features of the Firefox awesome bar is that I can simply type a substring of any URL or page title in my history and it finds all matches sorted by how frequently they were accessed. Example: I simply type "ask" when I want to ask something on stackoverflow.com., "inbox" goes to my GMail Inbox and so on because the substring matches any part of the URL or the page title. Chrome's Omnibar is quite frustrating in this area. I am not able to predict what it's gonna fetch and I seem to have no way to train the thing to do my bidding. I have turned unchecked the option that says: "Use a suggestion service to help complete searches and URLs typed..." but there has been no noticeable improvement. Any clues how I can make the Omnibar behave?

  • Windows 7 locked out account

    I have a Win7 x64 computer. There was only one account (mine, created at installation, password protected, full administrative access with UAC enabled). To speed up the startup + login process I went to control userpasswords2 and unchecked that users need to enter password. By this operation my account has been changed to Guest type and an Administrator account has been created. This Administrator account has a small overlay icon with a downwards pointing arrow. My original password did not work; if I try leaving the password blank it says something like "Your account has been disabled. Contact your administrator." Contacting myself surprisingly did not help. As my account (which I am still able to access) is Guest, I have no rights to do anything. Is there a way to get my access back without reinstalling?

  • Mac OS X - rmdir fails with "Operation not permitted" for a folder created by a PC on a removable dr

    Hello. I have a problem (using Mac OS X 10.5.8) with the access rights of a folder that was presumably created by a virus on a disk-on-key drive when I used it with a PC. I can't remove the folder or change it's name. In Finder's Info window the Lock box is unchecked and uncheckable - if I try to check it it flips back to off.     Request-Reply is a new feature in 11g JMSAdapter that helps you achieve the following:Allows you to combine Request and Reply in a single step. In the prior releases of the Oracle SOA Suite, you would require to configure two distinct adapters. Performs automatic correlation without you needing to configure BPEL "correlation sets". This would work seamlessly in Mediator and BPMN as well.In order to configure the JMSAdapter Request-Reply, please follow these steps:1) Drag and drop a JMSAdapter onto the "External References" swim lane in your composite editor. 2) Enter default values for the first few screens in the JMS Adapter wizard till you hit the screen where the wizard prompts you to enter the operation name. Select "Request-Reply" as the "Operation Type" and Asynchronous as "Operation Name".3) Select the Request and Reply queues in the following screens of the wizard. The message will be en-queued in the "Request" queue and the reply will be returned in the "Reply" queue. The reason I have used such a selector is that the back-end system that reads from the request queue and generates the response in the response queue actually generates more than one response and hence I must use a filter to exclude the unwanted responses.4) Select the message schema for request as well as response. 5) Add an <invoke> activity in BPEL corresponding to the JMS Adapter partner link. Please note that I am setting an additional header as my third-party application requires this.6) Add a <receive> activity just after the <invoke> and select the "Reply" operation. Please make sure that the "Create Instance" option is unchecked.Your completed BPEL process will something like this:

  • Machine freezes when configuring dual display on Ubuntu 9.10 (karmic)

    Hi - I'm trying to configure dual displays on an Ubuntu 9.10 machine. When I connect the 2 screens (1 VGA input, the other DVI), I see them in a mirrored display. I opened up Display Settings and unchecked the 'mirror screens' box, and when I clicked apply, the machine froze and I had to force restart it. This happened repeatedly for about 6 times until I gave up. How do I set it up to boot up normally with dual display working? thanks. edit: I thought it might be related to the virtual screen size, so I tried to edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf to add: SubSection "Display" Virtual 2560 1024 EndSubSection But that didn't do much. Each screen works fine on it's own, and together with mirrored display.

  • ms sql 2005 server role problem

    On one of our sql 2005 servers we are no longer able to give any users server roles (ex. sysadmin). It appears to be successful both through the UI and through code. But when we check in the db and in the UI the role is unchecked and not shown for the user in the master db. Permissions don't seem to be the issue as we are testing this as system administrator levels of access. There are also no errors in the log. Any ideas? Thanks, Brandon

  • Sync iPhone applications in iTunes

    Suppose I have one the one hand one iTunes library on a PC used to sync Outlook contacts and calendar plus on the other hand one iTunes library on a Mac that syncs music, podcasts, apps, ringtones, etc. Both libraries are based on iTunes 9.0.2. It turns out that the iTunes library on the PC always tries to sync apps and ringtones as well. Unfortunately, this boils down to deleting apps and ringtones from the iPhone because the apps are not part of the iTunes library on the PC. After unchecking the checkbox to sync apps and ringtones and plugging the iPhone into the Mac the checkbox is also unchecked on the Mac. It seems as if the settings for syncing apps and ringtones are stored on the iPhone rather than in the particular iTunes library. Whenever syncing apps and ringtones is active on one machine it is also active on the other and vice versa. How can I make the PC ignore apps and ringtones and only sync contacts and calendar?

  • SQL Server Maintenence Plan error on an offline Database

    Today is SQL day for me :) I have a maintenance plan that is failing to run with the following error: Failed:(-1073548784) Executing the query "USE [SharedServices1_DB]" failed with the following error: "Database 'SharedServices1_DB' cannot be opened because it is offline.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly. where SharedServices1_DB is a database that is set to offline. I would like to exclude this database from the maintenance plan, but when the database is offline, it does not show up at all as a "specific database" in the maintenance plan task, and if I bring it online, it is already unchecked in the maintenance plan task. How can I exclude an offline database from a maintenance plan?
