  • Using Solaris zfs + iscsi targets with Oracle VM

    I was playing with my Oracle VM setup and needed some shared storage that was block based. I did not have a storage array available but I did have a solaris box, that I use for Oracle VDI, available. I set up a few iscsi targets on this solaris server and exported them to my 2 Oracle VM servers. Here's how I did this : (1) On the solaris side : # zpool list NAME SIZE USED AVAIL CAP HEALTH ALTROOT rpool 544G 129G 415G 23% ONLINE - I just have a simple zpool, called rpool, on this box. It has plenty of space available for my needs. So I will use rpool and I will create 5 50gb vols : zfs create -V 50G rpool/ovm1 zfs create -V 50G rpool/ovm2 zfs create -V 50G rpool/ovm3 zfs create -V 50G rpool/ovm4 zfs create -V 50G rpool/ovm5 I want to use these volumes for iscsi so I have to enable them as shared iscsi devices : zfs set shareiscsi=on rpool/ovm1 zfs set shareiscsi=on rpool/ovm2 zfs set shareiscsi=on rpool/ovm3 zfs set shareiscsi=on rpool/ovm4 zfs set shareiscsi=on rpool/ovm5 The command iscsitadm list target should list these devices so make sure they show up. # iscsitadm list target Target: rpool/ovm1 iSCSI Name: iqn.1986-03.com.sun:02:896c766c-0943-4da5-d47e-9575b5a0be36 Connections: 2 Target: rpool/ovm2 iSCSI Name: iqn.1986-03.com.sun:02:a3116b46-73e0-e8c2-e80c-9a4f71aff069 Connections: 2 Target: rpool/ovm3 iSCSI Name: iqn.1986-03.com.sun:02:a838c400-2730-c0d6-f2c2-ee186a0261c1 Connections: 2 Target: rpool/ovm4 iSCSI Name: iqn.1986-03.com.sun:02:2e046afb-d66d-4f3f-c5de-8115e0ddd931 Connections: 2 Target: rpool/ovm5 iSCSI Name: iqn.1986-03.com.sun:02:66109fbe-81ac-ef05-f85e-ab8c1f34cb43 Connections: 2 At this point I want to make sure that I have some access control on these devices. I am setting up an 11gR2 rac template (the cool stuff Saar did) so I am using my devices to create a 2 node RAC cluster with phy: devices.

  • Need Help Accessing the Vista Wampserver localhost from Virtual PC 2007 running an XP VM.

    (I had posted this on stack overflow but it was suggested there that I post it here instead). I have a Vista laptop on which I'm running wampserver. I have Virtual PC 2007 setup with Windows XP running on the VM. My goal is to be able to use the XP VM to run IE6 to view the localhost in the Vista wampserver. I'm not interested in having the XP VM have any access to the internet -- only to my Vista wampserver's localhost. The vista wampserver works fine. As suggested on a blog I read, I installed the loopback adapter on Vista and I set the loopback to 192.168.21.1 and I set the xp vm ip to 192.168.21.2. I am able to successfully ping the vista-loopback adapter from the xp vm. I've turned the wampserver to "server online", and I've disabled the firewalls in both the vista host and the xp vm. But for some reason, I still can't seem to get the virtual XP to see the localhost on the vista wampserver. I've tried using the vista //name, and I've tried the ip 192.168.21.1 directly and with the port. For whatever its worth, I'm not able to see anything under the XM VM's network places (though I don't know if I'm supposed to be able to see anything). So at this point I'm stuck and I'm still not sure how to get this XP VM to "talk" to my vista wampserver localhost. Any advice on how to fix this problem is much appreciated.   • Headless VirtualBox VM NAT Network

    I have a remote linux server accessible through SSH only. My goal is to host multiple Virtual Machines on this host server using VirtualBox. The host server has 1 IP address, so NAT will be used to route to the VMs for example 10022 will forward to server1:22 and 20022 will forward to server2:22. I have installed VirtualBox and copied a pre-configured CentOS VM to the host server. I start the VM, but cannot establish a connection to the server for example ssh -p 10022 127.0.0.1 times out. I've tried many things: Method 1: Copied existing .vdi, attached to new VM Method 2: Imported .Ova VM (thought it would help any MAC re-init issues?) NAT network type, tried natnet1 192.168/16 and 10.0/16 VBoxManage modifyvm "hermes.awoms.com" --natnet1 "192.168/16" Port forwarding with and without specifying VM ip in modifyvm --natpf1 command VBoxManage modifyvm "hermes" --natpf1 "guestssh,tcp,,10022,,,22" VBoxManage modifyvm "hermes" --natpf1 "guestssh,tcp,,10022,192.168.0.15,22" I can't see if VM is even booting (VBoxHeadless "hermes" --start & runs with no errors) I can't tell if VM is getting an IP address Is there anything else I can do to get more information from VirtualBox or the VM starting up when the only access I have is SSH?

  • Configure an Azure VM for Dynamic DNS for Cloud Services

    I am trying to setup an azure VM with proper DNS to allow multiple cloud services to communicate across cloud service boundaries. As I understand it, I need to provide my own DNS server. I do not have any on-premise infrastructure, so I am trying to configure an Azure VM to act as my DNS. This SO question (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/21858926/azure-how-to-connect-one-cloud-service-with-other-in-one-virtual-network) is very similar to my setup. This article (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windowsazure/jj156088.aspx) describes my particular case: Name resolution between virtual machines and role instances located in the same virtual network, but different cloud services Here is what I have done: Created Azure Virtual Network and declared subnets for each of my cloud services. Created an Azure VM (Windows 2012 R2) with DNS enabled RDP to the VM and enabled the DNS role and installed features Added the appropriate NetworkConfiguration xml section to each of my cloud services .csfg files Re-deployed my cloud services I have verified that I setup the virtual network and networkconfiguration properly because my cloud service hosts are able to communicate with each other if I use the internal ips. However, name resolution doesn't appear to be working, and it doesn't appear that my cloud service roles can communicate with my DNS server. How do I configure my VM so that my different cloud services roles register themselves with my DNS server? EDIT: I think I am 1 step closer to getting this to work. The cloud services that I was using are in an old affinity group which is not supported by VMs, so I was unable to add my VM into my virtual network. I created a new VNET in a new affinity group with my VM added into it. However, I still don't know how to configure the azure VM's DNS server so that the cloud services register themselves for name resolution. Also, an added bonus guaranteed to get a +1 would be to explain if it is possible to register a DNS entry for the VIP for an internal endpoint of my cloud services so we can get load balancing.     OSX is my host OS I have windows xp and Ubuntu 10.10 on guest OS. They both work great. When I eject USB flash drive from host OS, it appears in windows guest OS but it does not appear in Ubuntu Guest OS. I never run both guest OS at the same time. its always either or. I am running, VM virtualbox 4.1.10 and installed latest guest additions and also installed VM virtualbox extension pack. Thanks for your help

  • Virtual NIC on VM couldn't ping externally after Vmotion

    Today I vmotioned 5 MS SQL 2005 servers over to a new DRS Cluster. All SQL servers use the "Production_LAN" network and a single virtual NIC of type "VMXNET 3". The first 4 SQL VM (Windows 2003 Standard or Enterprise x32 bit) vmotioned over without a hitch. The last SQL VM I vmotioned (Windows 2003 Standard x64 bit R2) vmotioned over without error, but I upon completion, I could no longer ping the VM. I went into the VM and could not even ping the gateway, however I could ping the loopback. This SQL server is extremely busy in comparison with the previous 4 VM's. I restarted the server and it came back up with the virtual nic working just fine. The build of both servers (vmotioner and vmotionee) is ESX 4.0.0 175625 - So, pre-update 1. Should I suspect the network switch/VM for possibly not updating the mac table on the switch? Anybody else ever have this issue or know what may have caused it? Thank you!

  • Recovery files from a damage VM?

    After search and search again, my VM still can't recovery. Does somebody know how to retrieve the files from the VM? My VM is XP, it can't boot up anymore after my forced quit. In the Mac OS 10.6.2, I try to "get info" the VM file, I can see it is still using 25G space. I try to mount it with VMDK mounter (just right click the VM file and chose open with), it can mount but nothing inside. I also try to use filesalvage to recovery the files after mounted the VM, it can recovery many many files, but the files name and some document become to be symbol. What can I do now? Pls help me, thanks!

    I want to achieve following: (Note I'd like to get this done first of all with Win7 as both host and vm OS) Install Windows 7/xp/Windows 8 VM on Windows 7/Windows 8 host machine Configure it so that I can connect to it via remote desktop. This is because I use a screen reader software and audio output directly from VMs is not highly responsive. My software has a feature that it can connect to its copy on the remote machine (during rdp session) and then start receiving the text description which it translates into audio on the client (host in this case) machine. I want to know: Which VM software can let me do this – VMWare/Ms Virtual PC or VirtualBox If it is possible with every VM software, could you give an example of how to do this with anyone of these 3? Specifically, I know how to install Windows on VM (on both VMWare/Virtual PC), but don't really know how to configure a network such that I can remote into that VM from host OS. Hope it clarifies what I'm trying to achieve.

    I'm trying to do some testing of Ubuntu 10.04 Beta 2 Server in a VMWare environment. The host is XP, and the VM software is VMPlayer. Problem is, I want to be able to see the VM from the network, not just from the host. I can SSH into the VM from the host, but from any other machine on the network I can't even get the VM to respond to a ping. Going the other way (from the VM out) isn't a problem at all. The VM software did an 'easy installer' so I'm not really sure what was going on with the networking. Suggestions?

  • Exporting a VM running as a Domain Controller

    There is a Microsoft KB article that talks about best practices for running a DC on a VM. One of the notes is "Do not use the Export feature on a virtual machine that is running a domain controller". In order to export a VM, the VM needs to be turned off. If you turn off a DC VM, export it, import it on another server and then power the VM back on, there should be no risk as long as the original (exported) VM is never powered back on. Can someone explain to me why this isn't supported? After doing some searching on Google, the sites I found just regurgitated this line from the KB article, but didn't offer any explanation as to why this isn't supported.

  • Running Android emulator inside a Virtualbox Vm

    I'm trying to setup a VM with a complete android development stack (SDK, Platforms, Eclipse etc) for a Hackathon. I'm having real trouble getting the emulator to start in the VM. I realize that the emulator is essentially a VM itself inside the Vbox VM and so is going to be slow, but it just hangs at the Android splash screen and never gets any further. Might there be something going on with the VM that is causing it to run so very slowly? Is there anything I can do to give the VM more CPU? I've tried setting the execution cap to 100% but it didn't help any. Anyone know what might be going on here, or have any ideas about how I might speed it up? Thanks Steve.

Once this VM is golden, I plan on migrating this VM over to the E2160 machine. What can I do to solve this problem? my ip is unassigned and only set on vm and use bridge network mode.and gw,mask,dns is set.but not ping. i set this ip on host and without problems is worked, But I do not know why on vm not worked. my host OS Is Windows Server 2003 and firewall is off and RRAs(routing and remote access) For VPN service is Enable. Do not host or virtual machines to create a IP route?
