  • Execute javascript on IIS server

    I have the following situation. A customer uses JavaScript with jQuery to create a complex website. We would like to use JavaScript and jQuery on the server (IIS) for the following reasons: Skills transfer - we would like to use JavaScript and jQuery on the server and not have to use eg VB Script. / classic asp. .Net framework/Java etc is ruled out because of this. Improved options for search/accessibility. We would like to be able to use jQuery as a templating system, but this isn't viable for search engines and users with js turned off - unless we can selectively run this code on the server. There is significant investment in IIS and Windows Server, so changing that is not an option. I know you can run jScript on IIS using windows Script host, but am unsure of the scalability and the process surrounding this. I am also unsure whether this would have access to the DOM. Here is a diagram that hopefully explains the situation. I was wondering if anyone has done anything similar?

    I am building a web service that serves geographic boundary data in JSON format. The geographic data is stored in an SQL Server 2008 R2 database using the geography type in a table. I use [ColumnName].ToString() method to return the polygon data as text. Example output: POLYGON ((-6.1646509904325884 56.435153006374627, ... -6.1606079906751 56.4338050060666)) MULTIPOLYGON (((-6.1646509904325884 56.435153006374627 0 0, ... -6.1606079906751 56.4338050060666 0 0))) Geographic definitions can take the form of either an array of lat/long pairs defining a polygon or in the case of multiple definitions, an array or polygons (multipolygon). I have the following regex that converts the output to JSON objects contained in multi-dimensional arrays depending on the output. However I am no regex master and the calls to String.Replace() also seem inefficient to me. Does anyone have any suggestions/comments about performance of this?

  • Trouble with detecting gestures over ListView

    I have an Activity that contains a ViewFlipper. The ViewFlipper includes 2 layouts, both of which are essentially just ListViews. So the idea here is that I have two lists and to navigate from one to the other I would use a horizontal swipe. I have that working. However, what ever list item your finger is on when the swipe begins executing, that item will also be long-clicked. As far as I can tell: Controller: deals with routing requests View: deals with presentation of data Model: looks a whole lot like a Data Access layer Where does the Business Logic go? Take a large enterprise application with: Several different sources of data (WCF, WebServices and ADO) tied together in a data access layer (useing multiple different DTOs). A lot business logic segmented over several dlls. What is an appropriate way for an MVC web application to sit on top of this (in terms of code and project structure)? The example I have seen where everything just goes in the Model folder don't seem like they are appropriate for very large applications. Thanks for any advice!

  • Array of Objects

    Complete and utter neophyte to Objective-C and the entire Mac platform so don't flame me please =). Basically I'm trying to create a simple game. The game has a board which I've created a class for and a board is comprised of squares which I also created a class for (board and square respectively). In my view controller I'm trying to instantiate a board and add boardSize^2 squares to said object. board contains an NSMutableArray *squares. I've also created a convenience method which sets an NSNumber *boardSize called initWithDimension. In my touchesBegan handler I have the following: board *game_board = [[board alloc] initWithDimension:10]; int size = [game_board.boardSize intValue]; for(int i = 0; i <= size; i++) { square *s = [[square alloc] init]; [game_board.squares addObject:s]; [s release]; } NSLog(@"%i", size); NSLog(@"%@", [game_board.squares objectAtIndex:0]); ...and I'm getting 10 (as expected) and then (null). This is probably glaringly obvious to an experienced developer, I've just struggled for an hour trying to solve it and have given up. I've tried it without the [s release] as well, same result. I've also imported square.h and board.h. Any ideas what's wrong here? Any other comments on what I'm brutalizing? Thanks.

What is to stop someone from creating a java agent or native JVMTI agent and dumping bytecode or re-writing classes to bypass licensing and/or other security checks? Is there any way to detect if any agents are running from Java code? From JNI? From a JVMTI agent?

    UIViewControllers have viewWillAppear, viewDidDisappear, etc. delegate methods. I would like to create a UIView subclass that can be added to a viewController's view, and when that UIViewController apears or disappears, a delegate function is called. I could easily do this by putting function calls in the UIViewController viewWillAppear/viewWillDisappear delegate functions, but how can I encapsulate this behavior in the UIView?

  • Passing data to a non-static listBox, by calling function from another class

    I have a simple forms program that I have been fighting with for a while now. I simply want to be able to call a method from a different class file (when a certain step is triggered in the code in that class file) in order to insert a string in the listBox. Here is my main method, pretty standard: class Program { [STAThread] static void Main(string[] args) { Application.EnableVisualStyles(); Application.SetCompatibleTextRenderingDefault(false); Application.Run(new MainForm()); } } Here is the function which resides in my MainForm.cs file, which I can call just fine from that class file (via 'TextToBox(myString);'): public partial class MainForm : Form { ... // Function to output results to main Listbox window public void TextToBox(string aString) { // Place messages in Main Display list box window this.listBox1.Items.Insert(0, aString); } ... } But my problem is when I am in another class and I want to call 'TextToBox(myString);'. If I create another object reference of the MainForm, the code compiles fine but nothing will show up in the listBox. How do I do this? I cannot simply make TextToBox() static. I know I must create the object reference but I can't figure out how to reference the ORIGINAL MainForm, the one that was created in the Main method. Thanks in advance...

    I have a report that has ~1k columns and ~17k rows and I'm trying to render it to Excel 2007 with SSRS 2008 R2 Nov CTP. SSRS team members have mentioned in multiple places that Excel 2007 format is included in 2008 R2, for instance: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlreportingservices/thread/69545568-73cb-4f4c-8f35-44472ba6d013 Now, it's certainly possible that it just hasn't made it into the product yet (at least as of Nov CTP), and if that's the case, that would be good to know, too (and ideally when it would be in the product).   • Rails: translations for table's column.

    In rails application I have two models: Food and Drink. Both food and drink have a name, which has to be stored in two languages. How do I better realize translations for theese tables? First solution I realized was to replace name column with name_en and name_ru. Another solution is to encode with YAML hash like { :en => 'eng', :ru => 'rus' } and store yaml as a name. What would you recommend, assuming content is not static? Maybe there's good article?

  • What's a good Java API for creating Word documents?

    I have a new app I'll be working on where I have to generate a Word document that contains tables, graphs, a table of contents and text. What's a good API to use for this? How sure are you that it supports graphs, ToCs, and tables? What are some hidden gotcha's in using them? Some clarifications: I can't output a PDF, they want a Word doc. They're using MS Word 2003 (or 2007), not OpenOffice Application is running on *nix app-server It'd be nice if I could start with a template doc and just fill in some spaces with tables, graphs, etc. Thanks for the help. Edit: Several good answers below, each with their own faults as far as my current situation. Hard to pick a "final answer" from them. Think I'll leave it open, and hope for better solutions to be created. Edit: The OpenOffice UNO project does seem to be closest to what I asked for.   • How do you link to an action that takes an array as a parameter (RedirectToAction and/or ActionLink)

    I have an action defined like so: public ActionResult Foo(int[] bar) { ... } Url's like this will work as expected: .../Controller/Foo?bar=1&bar=3&bar=5 I have another action that does some work and then redirects to the Foo action above for some computed values of bar. Is there a simple way of specifying the route values with RedirectToAction or ActionLink so that the url's get generated like the above example? These don't seem to work: return RedirectToAction("Foo", new { bar = new[] { 1, 3, 5 } }); return RedirectToAction("Foo", new[] { 1, 3, 5 }); <%= Html.ActionLink("Foo", "Foo", new { bar = new[] { 1, 3, 5 } }) %> <%= Html.ActionLink("Foo", "Foo", new[] { 1, 3, 5 }) %> However, for a single item in the array, these do work: return RedirectToAction("Foo", new { bar = 1 }); <%= Html.ActionLink("Foo", "Foo", new { bar = 1 }) %> When setting bar to an array, it redirects to the following: .../Controller/Foo?a=System.Int32[] Finally, this is with ASP.NET MVC 2 RC.   • PHP preg_replace - Don't match within h1 tags

    Hi there. I am using preg_replace to add a link to keywords if they are found within a long HTML string. I don't want to add a link if the keyword is found within h1 tags or strong tags. The below regex nearly works and basically says (I think): If the keyword is not immediately wrapped by either a h1 tag or a strong tag then replace with the keyword that was matched, as a bolded link to google. $result = preg_replace('%(?!<h1>)(?!<strong>)\b(bobs widgets)\b(?!<\/strong>)(?!<\/h1>)%i','<a href="http://www.google.com"><strong>$1</strong></a>', $result, -1); (the reason I don't want to match if in strong tags is because I am recursing through a lot of keywords so don't want to link an already linked keyword on subsequent passes) the above works fine and won't match: <h1>bobs widgets</h1> It will however match the keyword in the following text, because the h1 tag isn't immediately either side of the keyword: <h1>Here are bobs widgets for sale</h1> I need to make the spaces either side optional and have tried adding \s* but that doesn't get me anywhere. I'd be very grateful for a push in the right direction here.

  • asp.net free cms for library

    We have library website written in classic ASP that allows to browse and search by multiple (50+) filter criterias (author, publication year, ISSN ... ). There are lots of security holes and we have only one developer who hardly maintain this ASP-site with some minor features for last 3 years. There are two common user groups - administrators (librarians) and students (5000+) who have books on hands and searches for them. We don't want to rewrite it from scratch, just to use standard free CMS (.net based) and migrate library data and user accounts with minimum effort. What CMS will you suggest? Thank you in advance.
