  • Cannot play sound: device being used by another application

    I tried to change my speaker setup and every time I click "test" I get this error message on Windows 7 SP1. I tried running "sndvol" to view the applications list but the list is empty. Since I tried to test the new speaker setup, I'm now left without sound for all applications and can't get sound even if I switch back. I have not updated my sound drivers so I don't know what could have changed. What could be causing this?

  • Turning a running Linux system into a KVM instance on another machine

    I have two physical machines that I wish to virtualize. I can not (physically) plug the hard drives from either machine into the new machine that will act as their VM host, so I think that copying the entire structure of the system over using dd is out of the question. How can I best go about migrating these machines from their hardware to the KVM environment? I've set up empty, unformatted LVM logical volumes to host their filesystems, with the understanding that giving the VMs a real partition to work with achieves higher performance than sticking an image on the filesystem. Would I be better off creating new OS installs and rsyncing the differences over? FWIW, the two machines to be VM'd are running CentOS 5, and the host machine is running Ubuntu Server 10.04 for no particularly important reason. I doubt this matters too much, as it's still going to be KVM and libvert that matter.

You need one universal driver and you support all the UVC devices (webcams, video-cameras, video-grabbing-cards etc). For example, in linux - if you have UVC driver - you don't need to think about specific webcam driver for UVC webcam. UVC has unified way that webcam transmit its awailable resolutions and other capabilities, so i see 1600x1200 resolution without any problem. I wonder if windows 7 has UVC. I mean "universal UVC" (-; It says "USB Video Class", but doesn't give resolutions larger than 640x480 and webcam's controls, like 'sharpness', 'focus' and other as linux's driver does...

  • Extract X11 configuration information from running instance.

    Since I had a hard disk die on me, I figured I could easily try some other OS (I usually run Ubuntu). Turns out that Ubuntu flawlessly recognizes my video card and monitor (X11 works right out of the box), and none of the other systems I tried gets anything working (I tried CentOS and FreeBSD). In my now working version of Ubuntu I cannot find a configuration file with information I could try to use with one of the other versions, which makes me guess that it just detects the hardware every time. Can I extract its choice for drivers and configuration options somehow (so I can try these same options in the other systems)?

  • Hyper-V share a folder between host and instance

    I have a hyper-v server and several VM's (Virtual Machines). All the VM's are connected to an external network. I have tried to share a folder on the host and connect via the VM, I can do this but I'm prompted for a user name and password (as you would expect). I do not want to enable the "Everyone" group permissions as the physical host server is on a network of other servers. I have created a new virtual internal network in Hyper-V and given it's adapter a static ip of 33.0.0.100. I have added the virtual adapter to one of the VM's and set to IP to 33.0.0.2 (as advised here). Again this seems to work but I'm still prompted for a user name and password. Am I on the right lines here? I just want to share a directory from the host to the vm's without exposing the share to other servers on the network.

    I hope this is the right place for this question. So, we're looking into setting up a building access that uses badges or cards of some kind. I wanted to ask the users on here if they've had to do such setups and/or if they have recommendations? Is there maybe a system that integrates with Active Directory? I know one of the things our managers want to do is to be able to run reports on when people are entering the buildings. I'd appreciate any suggestions and thanks in advance!

    I'm trying to build a calculator layout using TableLayout, but the last two rows aren't aligning with the rest of the layout. Is there something wrong with my layout XML? What I'm trying to do would be easier to accomplish in HTML (<td> with colspan or rowspan), so should I try converting this into a WebView?   • WPA2 authentication fails on Ubuntu 12.04 using Rosewill RNX-N1

    Decided to reduce the clutter in the house and replace a wired connection with a wireless one on my wife's system using USB network device Rosewill RNX-X1. I can see and connect to unprotected network, but WPA2 authentication repeatedly fails. RNX-X1 works on other systems (including TV); also have 2 of 'em and tried each. Worth noting that I recently switched from Comcast to CenturyLink and so switched routers. The system connected successfully to previous router (Linksys EA4500) using WPA2. Would think it is the router (Actiontec C1000A) but all other devices (TV, iPad, Windows, Blackberry, and Squeezebox) connect ok. Would appreciate some diagnostic guidance and insight (phrased for a newbie!)   • WPA2 authentication fails using USB network devices (Linksys and Rosewill)

    Decided to reduce the clutter in the house and replace a wired connection with a wireless one on my wife's system using USB network device Rosewill RNX-X1. I can see and connect to unprotected network, but WPA2 authentication repeatedly fails. Tried the same with a Linksys USB network adapter. Both failed to authenticate. Worth noting that I recently switched from Comcast to CenturyLink and so switched routers. The system connected successfully to previous router (Linksys EA4500) using WPA2. Would think it is the router (Actiontec C1000A) but all other devices (TV, iPad, Windows, Blackberry, and Squeezebox) connect ok. Would appreciate some diagnostic guidance and insight (phrased for a newbie!)   • Using USB to Ethernet with Linux Ubuntu 12.04

    Being a newbie, Please excuse if the technical Jargon used is not an universally accepted one :) I have a particular device (say device A) whose USB2.0 driver is available from Linux community. Linux UBUNTU12.04 based PC is able to detect that device via the available driver. My requirement is to ensure that PC can exchange the command as well as data with the device A over TCP/IP packets (In other words, instead of just a USB Based driver, there should be a TCP/IP wrapper over the device USB driver and still does the same job as the USB driver was doing before) Bought an USB (Female) to RJ-45 adapter,connected Device A (male) USB to the USB Female end of the adapter and the Ethernet end connected to the router. PC also is connected to the same router so that both Device A and the PC have the IP address in the same subnet range. So the packets produced by the device A can be routed to the PC via some binding( not sure how I can achieve this, but conceptual idea) Here are the issues I can see as of now 1) USB to RJ-45 is just a hardware signal conversion and not a NIC in itself and hence no MAC/IP ADDRESS assigned. Can we bind a virtual NIC created in PC with this connector? 2) Any available USB TO IP command as well as data translation wrappers available? e.g. command for the device A on Ethernet converted to command for the device A on USB which is then acted upon the device as a command from the USB driver There is some missing link in my understanding and hence it would be of great help if you can bounce off some ideas on how I can take this forward so that Device A and PC exchange data over IP.     I'm trying to get my two Radeon HD 4770 cards working with three monitors. Xinerama works so far in the way that I have two fully working monitors were I can move windows from one to the other. My problem now is that my third monitor is a clone of my second monitor (displaying the exact same thing).     Hi, I'm having difficulties handling multiple instances of my root (main) activity for my application. My app in question has an intent filter in place to launch my application when opening an email attatchment from the "Email" app. My problem is if I launch my application first through the the android applications screen and then launch my application via opening the Email attachment it creates two instances of my root activity. steps: Launch root activity A, press home Open email attachment, intent filter triggers launches root activity A Is it possible when opening the Email attachment that when the OS tries to launch my application it detects there is already an instance of it running and use that or remove/clear that instance?

    Is there any way to request an instance from the StructureMap ObjectFactory by the string name of the type? For example, it would be nice to do something like this: var thing = ObjectFactory.GetInstance("Thing"); The use case here is a messaging scenario in which the message is very generic and contains only the name of a task. The handler receives the message, gets the task name from the message and retrieves the Type of task runner from a configuration database. StructureMap scans all the assemblies in a directory and one of them will contain the Type returned from the config database which then needs to be instantiated. The other possibility is to grab a Type instance by doing the following: var type = Type.GetType("Thing"); But the problem there is the assembly may or may/not be loaded in the AppDomain so that reflection call isn't always possible.

Since the deserialization routines (I'm using BinaryFormatter, though I'd imagine others would be similar) look for a constructor with the same argument list as GetObjectData(), it seems like this can't be done directly . . Which I would presume means that the most elegant solution would be to actually use an enum, and then provide some sort of translation mechanism for turning an enum value into an instance reference. How might one go about this?
