  • Troubleshoot Perl module installation on Mac OS X

    I'm trying to install the Perl module Set::IntervalTree on Mac OS X. I recently installed it today on an Ubuntu box with no problem. I simply started cpan, entered install Set:IntervalTree, and it all worked out. However, the installation failed on Mac OS X--it spits out a huge list of compiler errors (below). How would I troubleshoot this.   • Grub 'Read Error' - Only Loads with LiveCD

    Problem After installing Ubuntu to complete my Windows 7/Ubuntu 12.04 dual-boot setup, Grub just wouldn't load at all unless I boot from the LiveCD. Afterwards, everything works completely normal. However, this workaround isn't a solution and I'd like to be able to boot without the aid of a disc.   • Gparted funkiness - won't recognize 1TB, full-hdd /home partition, but recognizes ext4 and /home label

    I have a 1TB SATA hard disk from my old desktop, and the entire thing is an ext4 /home partition (/, /boot, and swap were all on another hdd). It is now in a USB2 enclosure and I want to use it to back up my current laptop /home. To do this I need to shrink the /home partition on the 1TB backup drive. It only uses about 500GB so that shouldn't be a problem, I'll start the laptop with an Ubuntu live USB, plug in the 1TB drive, and use Gparted to shrink the 1TB /home partition to ~500GB. Then I can create a second partition in the newly freed space, and cp -ax my laptop's /home over to it. Unfortuntely, Ubuntu Live USB can detect and mount the external hdd, and Gparted can see it's there, but Gparted can't read it and hence can't resize it. Disk Utility reports the drive is fine, no errors, so I'm not sure what's the problem. See linked pics, worth a thousand words. Anyone know what the problem is here? Any pointers in the right direction much appreciated.

    I want to install Ubuntu alongside my Windows 7 operation system. During installation I have three options: Install alongside the existing OS. Remove everything and install Ubuntu. Manual partitioning (advanced). The above list is not precise (I do not remember what exactly was written there and I just write options as I have understood them). I know that option 2 is not mine. So, I need to choose either 1 or 3. I do not know which one I need to choose. I want to have a possibility to manually specify space assigned to Windows and Ubuntu (for example 40% for Windows and 60% for Ubuntu). I chose the 1st option and I saw a window with the following information. Allocate drive space by dragging the drive bellow. File (48.1 GB) Ubuntu /dev/sda2 (ntfs) /dev/sda3 (ext4) 286.6 GB 241.7 GB 2 small partitions are hidden, use the advanced partitioning tool for more control. [use entire partition] [use entire disk] [Quit] [Back] [Install Now] My problem is that I do not understand what I see. In particular I can press [use entire partition] or [use entire disk] and I do not know what is the difference. Moreover, as far as I understand, I can even press [Install Now] without pressing one of the two above mentioned buttons. So, I have 3 options. What is the difference between them? The most important thing for me is not to delete the old operation system with all the data stored there.

    I'm new to Django and have some code in my views.py like this: try: myfunction() except: assert False, sys.exc_info()[0] This is very helpful because I get an email with lots of useful info if there's an error. The problem is that it also redirects the user to a Webfaction system error page. What I'd like to know is how do I still get the useful error email, but redirect the user to my own error page? Also, is this the best way to be handling errors in Django?

    i have this app that i developed and it works great on the simulator with no errors what so ever. but the moment i try to run the same on the phone for testing, the app crashes stating filenotfoundexception. it says the file /res/drawable/divider_horizontal.9.png is missing. but actually speaking, i have never referenced that file through my code. i believe its a system/os file that is unavailable. i have a custom list view, i guess its the divider there... could somebody please suggest what is wrong here. i believe this is a similar issue discussed here..but i am unable to make I'm pretty new to cucumber, and there are a number of things I really don't quite understand about how the cucumber environment is set up and executed within the test environment. I have a REST API rails app I'm testing with cucumber, using the RestClient gem to generate a post to controller create action. When I run the feature with a hard-coded URL pointing to a running localhost server (my local dev server environment; replacing tickets_url with "http:// localhost/tickets" in the snippet below), my cucumber steps execute as expected. However, when the resource URL resolves to the cucumber host I'm declaring, I get a socket error exception. getaddrinfo: nodename nor servname provided, or not known (SocketError) From the steps file: When /^POS Adapter sends JSON data to the Tickets resource$/ do ticket = { :ticket = { ... } } host! "test.host" puts tickets_url RestClient.post tickets_url, ticket.to_json, :content_type = :json, :accepts = :json end (the "puts" statement prints "http://test.host/tickets") Using the following gems: cucumber-0.6.1 webrat-0.6.0 rest-client-1.2.0 I should also say I have a similar set up in another rails app, using test.host as my host, and it seems to work fine.   • Error while installing Ubuntu 12.04 on Windows 7

    Today I tried installing Ubuntu 12 thru wubi.exe. After some time I came across this error and installation stopped. Exception: Error executing command command=C:\Windows\sysnative\bcdedit.exe /set {c7742083-ac81-11e1-ade2-fa13d4cedcff} device partition=E: retval=1 stderr=An error has occurred setting the element data. The request is not supported. Please help on this error and guide accordingly.

    I just added the following lines in /etc/mysql/my.cnf after I converted one database to use InnoDB engine. innodb_buffer_pool_size = 2560M innodb_log_file_size = 256M innodb_log_buffer_size = 8M innodb_flush_log_at_trx_commit = 2 innodb_thread_concurrency = 16 innodb_flush_method = O_DIRECT But it raise "ERROR 2013 (HY000) at line 2: Lost connection to MySQL server during query" error restarting mysqld. And mysql error log shows the following InnoDB: Error: log file ./ib_logfile0 is of different size 0 5242880 bytes InnoDB: than specified in the .cnf file 0 268435456 bytes! 100118 20:52:52 [ERROR] Plugin 'InnoDB' init function returned error. 100118 20:52:52 [ERROR] Plugin 'InnoDB' registration as a STORAGE ENGINE failed. 100118 20:52:52 [ERROR] Unknown/unsupported table type: InnoDB 100118 20:52:52 [ERROR] Aborting So I commented out this line # innodb_log_file_size = 256M And it restarted mysql successfully. I wonder what's the "5242880 bytes of log file" showed in mysql error? It's the first database on InnoDB engine on this server so when and where is that log file created? In this case, how can I enable innodb_log_file_size directive in my.cnf? EDIT I tried to delete /var/lib/mysql/ib_logfile0 and restart mysqld but it still failed. It now shows the following in error log. 100118 21:27:11 InnoDB: Log file ./ib_logfile0 did not exist: new to be created InnoDB: Setting log file ./ib_logfile0 size to 256 MB InnoDB: Database physically writes the file full: wait... InnoDB: Progress in MB: 100 200 InnoDB: Error: log file ./ib_logfile1 is of different size 0 5242880 bytes InnoDB: than specified in the .cnf file 0 268435456 bytes! Resolution It works now after deleted both ib_logfile0 and ib_logfile1 in /var/lib/mysql
