  I am creating a web application to integrate with Chargify. I want to return a hash with customer_id set if the user has a customer associated with the account, and customer_attributes if a customer has to be created. Is there any way that I could do this with an if..end block inside of the hash definition.   Why am I getting a compile time error for the two method headers at the end of my code in my class ArrayListTest? Then i run a function, which among others is supposed to modify some item in my array from within the function. This is unfortunately not working. So my question is simple. Is it normal? • How can I get a value out of a jQuery object?

  I am returning some data (example below) and saving it to a jQuery object (or is this an array and I am confusing the two?) when I log the variable that is the object it has the values I am looking for but how do I access the data inside this object? code $itemPosition = { 'top': $item.offset().top, 'left':$item.offset().left }, console.log($itemPosition); This would log out (the in this case expected) top: 0 & left: 490. But how can I know work with those values? Also, while this it is probably obvious I am still in the early stages of learning jQuery/Javascript rest assured that reference books are on their way, but so far the SO community has been invaluable to my learning, so thanks for reading! • Mixing static and dynamic endpoints in app.yaml file

  I'm trying to describe endpoints in my App Engine app and am having difficulty for directory structures that mix static and dynamic content. But my yaml rules are conflicting with one another. Before I change my directory structure, does anyone have a recommendation? The goal is to create a directory that contains both documentation (static html files) and implementations. /api - /v1 - getitdone.py - doc.html - index.html What I think I should be doing with my application yaml... - url: /api/v1/getitdone script: api/v1/getitdone.py - url: /api/ static_files: api/index.html upload: api/index.html - url: /api static_dir: api But this causes the dynamic endpoints to fail. I'm assuming the static_dir reference is breaking it. How can I do this without describing every script and static file reference (I have many more than are listed here)?

• Return a dynamic string from std::exception's `what`

  I'm convinced at this point that I should be creating subclasses of std::exception for all my exception throwing needs. Now I'm looking at how to override the what method. The situation that I'm facing, it would be really handy if the string what returns be dynamic. Some pieces of code parse an XML file for example, and adding a position or line number to the error message is useful to me. What I'd like to know: what returns a const char *, which implies any catcher is likely not going to free the string. So I need some other place to store the result, but where would that be? (I need thread-safety.) what also includes throw() in its signature. While I can prevent my what from throwing anything, it seems to me that this method really isn't intended for anything too dynamic. If what is not the right place, then where should I be doing this instead?

  I have a collection of Post objects and I want to be able to sort them based on these conditions: First, by category (news, events, labs, portfolio, etc.) Then by date, if date, or by position, if a specific index was set for it Some posts will have dates (news and events), others will have explicit positions (labs, and portfolio). I want to be able to call posts.sort!, so I've overridden <=>, but am looking for the most effective way of sorting by these conditions. Below is a pseudo method: def <=>(other) # first, everything is sorted into # smaller chunks by category self.category <=> other.category # then, per category, by date or position if self.date and other.date self.date <=> other.date else self.position <=> other.position end end It seems like I'd have to actually sort two separate times, rather than cramming everything into that one method. Something like sort_by_category, then sort!. What is the most ruby way to do this?

• Easiest way to pass a javascript array or its values to a servlet and convert to a HashMap

  I have a Javascript array. I want to pass it's data to a servlet using the ajax() method of jQuery. What is the easiest way to do this. The index values i.e. the i in array[i] are not in order, they are numbers that have meaning themselves, hence I cannot simply loop through and create a GET queryString, or so I believe. Maybe I should be converting the JavaScript array to a JSON Object and sending that to the server ?? I am stumped on this one.
