  • [PHP] Dynamic cron jobs?

    - by Frankie Laguna
I'm writing a script that needs to be called at a random time during the day, but am not sure how to accomplish this. I don't want to waste server resources to run a cron job every minute. I want the script to be called at random, so generating the random times for say a month in advance and then creating cron jobs for each of them isn't what I'm looking for. Also this script only needs to be executed once a day. Thanks in advance!

  • How much one can trust the information published in the wikipedia? [closed]

    - by AKN
Wikipedia has answers for many question almost in all categories. Let it be Technical Sports Personalities Important events (this day, that day) Scientific terms etc... I know the source of contents are from volunteers (Please correct me if I'm wrong here). But what measures they have to ensure that contents are properly written. Even if they have admin/moderator and all that, they may not be experts in all areas. So how do they validate the appropriateness of the content?

  • Why and what for: java enum

    - by Mat Banik
Today I was browsing through some question on this site and I found mention of enum being used in singleton pattern and that there are some thread safety benefits to such solution. I never used enums and I have been programing in java for more than couple a years now. And apparently they changed a lot and now they even do full blown support of OOP within them selfs. Now why and what for should I used enum in day to day programing?

  • Best aproach for working with Time in C# WinForms?

    - by MadBoy
I'm trying to make a field where user will enter amount of time per day he/she spent on a project per day. It can be from 30 minutes to 8 hours. Is DateTimePicker with CustomFormat hh:mm best choice for this? Or there's better alternative for WinForms C#? Maybe TextBox or MaskedTextBox with special settings?

Any help is greatly appreciated, Thank you.

  • SSIS: Way to handle hot folder items in parallel?

    - by Dr. Zim
We have eight Xeon (i7) cores and 16 gig of RAM on our SSIS box. We have about 200 image files we want to convert using a command line utility every day. Currently the process is using Adobe Photoshop and droplets (very manual, taking upwards of two hours a day) Using SSIS hot folders, is there a way to execute up to eight conversions at once? Is there any way to tell a process completed or execute code upon it's completion?

  • Do you employ any tools for managing technical debt?

    - by Phil.Wheeler
The site I work with on a day-to-day basis has its share of shortcomings and we often make design decisions to "get us by right now" with the intention of fixing those up later. I've found that making the time to actually go back and fix them, let alone remembering what the full list of to-do items is can be challenging at best. Can you recommend any tools, resources or tricks that help you effectively manage your technical debt?

  • Convert numbers to enumeration of strings in bash

    - by User1
Using bash, I have a list of strings that I want to use to replace an int. Here's an example: day1=Monday day2=Tuesday day3=Wednesday day4=Thursday day5=Friday day6=Saturday day7=Sunday If I have an int, $dow, to represent the day of the week, how do I print the actual string? I tried this: echo ${day`echo $dow`} but get error of "bad substitution". How do I make this work? Note: I can change the $day variables to a list or something.

  • Are there any C++ style and/or standard example files available?

    - by Harvey
While there are lots of questions about coding style, beautifying, and enforcement, I haven't found any example C++ files that are used as a quick reference for style. The file should be one or two pages long and exemplify a given coding standard/style. For example, the Google C++ Style Guide is a great reference, but I think a one to two page piece of code written in their style pinned to a wall would be more useful in day-to-day use. Do any of these already exist?

  • Sorting MySQL table by next due date

    - by Zagga
Hi folks, I have a MySQL table that stores (amongst other things) a persons date of birth. Is there any way to sort the table so the next due birthday is at the top? I have the date stored in standard yyyy-mm-dd DATE format and seperate year, month and day fields so I can sort it by the first birthday of the year (ORDER BY month, day) but I can't seem to get any further. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Zagga
