    I'm having a problem with a django website I host with lighttpd + fastcgi. It works great but it seems that the first request always takes up to 3seconds. Subsequent requests are much faster (<1s). I activated access logs in lighttpd in order to track the issue. But I'm kind of stuck.   • Prevent auto mounting Android sdcard under Linux Mint

    I recently obtained an older Android phone, so that I could test Android Apps on it. I've needed it because I have a Nexus 7 but not older Android versions, hardware, etc. to test on. I'm having a problem with it under Linux Mint with Cinnamon. When I plug the phone in, or remove and plug the sdcard from the phone back to it while the phone is plugged in, Linux automatically mounts the sdcard. This is a problem because once it is mounted under Linux, it dismounts from the phone running Android 2.3.5, and I can no longer test Android Apps I write that require the sdcard to be present, writable. I went to Menu System Tools System Settings System Details Removable Media, and it brings up this window. I have changed the settings to always "Ask what to do" on "Select how media should be handled". However, the sdcard still gets mounted and then I am asked how I want to open these files (media players, photo importers, file browser, etc.). If I click the checkbox for "Never prompt or start programs on media insertion", then the sdcard is mounted, and I am not asked how to open these files. Eject is just a noob word for Ubuntu users that means umount (unmount) like "Adminstrator" is another ubuntu noob word for the root user. And if I unmount the sdcard, the phone doesn't recognize it again until I take the sdcard out and plug it back in. The phone sees it for a brief moment until Linux Mint takes it over. There are 2 possible solutions and maybe more: 1) Prevent Linux from automounting sdcards some how 2) Tell Android not to allow the computer it is plugged into to take over the sdcard, HOW? If I change the Virtualhost for the newsite.com to a wildcard, the proxypass will work but anything thats a subdomain of newsite.com won't work. so newsite.com will work, but www.newsite.com will not load correctly. I am assuming that when everything is wildcarded, then the ServerName somewhat acts like a RewriteCond and actually just applies the stuff to that URL. It uses the Virtualhost * (oldsite.com) and lets ANYTHING.oldsite.com work, but the second virtualhost * (newsite.com) only newsite.com will work... www.newsite.com will not. If I change the order of them, the opposite is true. So apparently it doesn't like me using 2 wildcards... I tried just making the Servername *.newsite.com .......but that would be too easy. I am not sure what I can do to do what I want? Perhaps I should make the ProxyPass included in the VirtualHosts and use something like: RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^panel\.newsite\.com$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://panel.newsite.com:10000/ [P] ProxyPassReverse / http://panel.newsite.com:10000/ but that doesnt seem to want to login to webmin, it loads the login page but isnt working how the ProxyPass & ProxyPassReverse does.

  • How does one make sure or even guarantee server time are sync correctly between dozens of servers across multiple datacenter on different location?

    Currently our web applications contain a logic to check if the data sent to the web server is expired or not by comparing the timestamp of the data with the date/time of the server. Everything goes will, until some dude from data center accidentally modify one of the web server date/time and causes some disruptions in our web services. My managers are of course not happy with this, and said we shouldn't use timestamp to check expiry in the first place...anyway.... Network Time Protocol is implemented, because of data centers are spread across different continents so we have one NTP server in each data center. The servers within the data center will have cron jobs to check against the time with their NTP server from the same data center. If time is out of sync it will auto update the server date/time. But then with our managers not happy with it, and think it could still easily causes the same problem. e.g. what if someone accidentally modify the NTP date/time? what if all the NTP servers are out of sync with each other? which NTP servers we can really trust? and blah blah.. So my questions are: What are the current practice to sync date/time between servers across multiple data centers or locations? How does one manages time stamp between web apps? e.g. Server A send data (contain timestamp of Server A) to Server B (compare timestamp between Server B and the timestamp from the data to see if it has expired or not. This is to avoid HTTP replay) Should we really not use timestamp check? Thanks & Best Regards

    Cannot Align Semi-Transparent Items? Windows Vista, Photoshop CS2. Steps to repeat: Create new document Fill a circle on a new layer Drop opacity of filled circle to 10% Create new empty layer below circle layer Merge empty layer with filled circle layer Select entire canvas Attempt to align layers to selectionlayer > align layers to selection > vertical centers I get the following error: Could not complete the Vertical Centers command because there are no layers to be moved. Clearly this is not true, as I'm selecting the layer with the semi-translucent ball on it. Now, if you had tried this same command prior to step 5 (when the layer was at 10% opacity) it would have worked. Is there some way around this problem? I need to move layers around that begin as transparent items, with a layer opacity at 100% where 100% of the layers opacity results in showing objects that are themselves not-very opaque. I've confirmed on another machine that this problem doesn't exist in CS3. I may exist in earlier copies of Photoshop, but I only have access to CS2 (has the problem) and CS3 (does not have the problem).

Security tool uncovers multiple bugs in every browser Michal Zalewski reports that he discovered the vulnerability in Internet Explorer a while ago using his cross_fuzz fuzzing tool and reported it to Microsoft in July 2010.
