  • running Hadoop software on office computers (when they are idle)

    Is there a project which helps setup a Hadoop cluster on office desktops, when they are idle? I'd like to experiment with Hadoop/MR/hbase but don't have acces to 5-10 computers. The computers at work are idle after hours and are connected to each other through a very high speed connection. What's more, data on these computers stays within our network so there is no privacy issue. In order for this to work I need a fairly light weight monitor running on each machine. When the computer has been idle for X hours, it will join the cluster. If the user logs on, it has to drop out of the cluster and return all CPU/memory back. Does something like this exist?

  • Please help me to allow my `JTable` to search the text even the table is in editable mode on key-press

    If user starts pressing keys using keyboards then JTable is supposed to be searched the matching text for him and if user double clicks on cell then Table should allow him to edit the text. And the issue is - Table is only searching text when the table is in non-editable mode and if Table is editable and user starts typing the text-using keyboard, cell is allowing him to edit the cell rather then search. Mr mKorbel has just solved my issue to allow edit only if double click on Table cell. Please help me to allow my JTable to search the text even the table is in editable mode on key-press.

    I'm creating a PDF file from a txt-template with tcpdf ([Example 8][1]). The txt-template looks like this: SALUTATION FIRSTNAME LASTNAME STREET CURRENTDATE SOMEMOREINFORMATION MYWEBSITE I replace those markers with the correct value. So that it would look like this: Mr. John Doe Downingstreet 10 14th May, 2010 [email protected] www.stackoverflow.com In this example, when I replace the values, the indention of the date is dependent on the length of the street name (which I don't want). I could solve this issue with str_pad but the problem is, I normally use three columns and there are lines which only have content in col1 and col3 as in the last line. How can I solve that problem? Is there something like the "overwrite" function in Word, that when you write, the text just gets overwritten? Thanks in advance.

  • How to rate a connect four game situation in java

    Hey, I am trying to write a simple AI for a "Get four" game. The basic game principles are done, so I can throw in coins of different color, and they stack on each other and fill a 2D Array and so on and so forth. until now this is what the method looks like: public int insert(int x, int color) //0 = empty, 1=player1 2=player2" X is the horizontal coordinate, as the y coordinate is determined by how many stones are in the array already, I think the idea is obvious. Now the problem is I have to rate specific game situations, so find how many new pairs, triplets and possible 4 in a row I can get in a specific situation to then give each situation a specific value. With these values I can setup a "Game tree" to then decide which move would be best next (later on implementing Alpha-Beta-Pruning). My current problem is that I can't think of an efficient way to implement a rating of the current game situation in a java method.   • Slow loading jQuery Autocomplete

    Hi I am building an internal app for my company using jQuery's autocomplete and am finding it tends to start off very slow. My assumption is that the bottle neck is perhaps adding its elements to the DOM since after the first query it seems to be substantially speedier. Does anyone know of a way to pre-load these elements on page load instead of doing it for the first time when the user starts typing?

  • Auto-Insert double quotes for HTML attributes broken

    In VS2008, it used to be that whenever I was typing an html attribute in an .aspx page when I hit '=' a pair of double quotes was automatically inserted and the cursor placed inside them. I guess I've changed a setting, but I don't know what to change to get that functionality back. I am using Resharper if it makes a difference.

    I'm trying to read the accelerometer for a longer period of time (between one and two hours). However, when the iPhone goes to sleep and locks, the reading of the accelerometer readout is paused. My setInterval timer seems to be running fine though. I can also play sounds. I see two solutions a) Find a way to read the accelerometer while locked b) Find a way to prevent the lock I'm using Titanium with JavaScript.

    Hi, Can anyone tell me where/how to customise the CSRF token error message for forms in Symfony 1.4. I'm using sfDoctrineGuard for logins and in this form particularly, whenever a session runs out and you still have the page open, it throws a very user-unfriendly error: "CSRF attack detected". Something like "This session has expired. Please return to the home page and try again" sounds better. What's the right way to do this in the form class? Thanks.

I noticed however, that writing a regular .properties file in the style of foo=bar fu=baz also works. This would mean a lot less typing (and maybe easier to read and more efficient as well).     In Python, what's the difference between arguments having default values: def f(a,b,c=1,d=2): pass and keyword arguments: def f(a=1,b=2,c=3): pass ? I guess there's no difference, but the tutorial has two sections: 4.7.1. Default Argument Values 4.7.2. Keyword Arguments which sounds like there are some difference in them. If so, why can't I use this syntax in 2.6: def pyobj_path(*objs, as_list=False): pass ?

When naming like all intact or likewise matches something in a manner more physical like sounds are. Then more technically stated that a copy might contain more information than the original. Does method as such have a name, if so what do I refer to, can we name it if you please or just discuss related handling.

    I love webpy, it's really quite Pythonic but I don't like having to add the url mappings and create a class, typically with just 1 function inside it. I'm interested in minimising code typing and prototyping fast. Does anyone have any up and coming suggestions such as Bobo, Bottle, Denied, cherrypy for a lover of webpy's good things? What makes it a good reason? Also I don't mind missing out (strongly) text based templating systems, I use object oriented HTML generation.

    I am using jQuery's cycle plugin, and found that I can call up the default for "speed" by typing this into Firebug's console: $.fn.cycle.defaults.speed 1000 I would like to know how to call up the override I have for speed: $('.xxx').cycle({ speed: 1700 }); If you have the answer, please let me know the steps taken to figure it out so I can understand Firebug better.     Is there a method of shortening PowerShell namespace references? Typing [RootNameSpace1.NameSpace2.Namepsace3+SomeEnum]::SomeValue is taxing and not a very good user expierence. I realize that you can reference System level objects without a namespace such that [Type]::GetType(... will work. Is there some manifest I could create or command I could use to shorten lengthy namespaces?

  • OpenAL tone generation on iPhone

    So I have been looking around for some time now on a way to produce a variable tone on the iPhone using OpenAL, the issue being the Apple has deprecated the ALUT part of OpenAL that has the alutCreateBufferWaveform that would be perfect for this. I was wondering if anyone had any idea how to make a tone generator using OpenAL on the iPhone SDK. All I need is the ability to produce a certain frequency tone consistantly over and over again. This is a last resort so sorry if it sounds kind of stupid.
