• Rails dealing with blank params at controller level

  I have a User model: class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_secure_password # validation lets users update accounts without entering password validates :password, presence: { on: :create }, allow_blank: { on: :update } validates :password_confirmation, presence: { if: :password_digest_changed? } end I also have a password_reset_controller: def update # this is emailed to the user by the create action - not shown @user=User.find_by_password_reset_token!(params[:id]) if @user.update_attributes(params[:user]) # user is signed in if password and confirmation pass validations sign_in @user redirect_to root_url, :notice => "Password has been reset." else flash.now[:error] = "Something went wrong, please try again." render :edit end end Can you see the problem here? A user can submit a blank a password/confirmation and rails will sign them in, because the User model allows blank on update. It's not a security concern, since an attacker would still need access to a user's email account before they could get anywhere near this action, but my problem is that a user submitting 6 blank chars would be signed in, and their password would not be changed for them, which could lead to confusion later on. So, I've come up with the following solution, and I'd like to check if there's a better way of doing it, before I push to production: def update @user=User.find_by_password_reset_token!(params[:id]) # if user submits blank password, add an error, and render edit action if params[:user][:password].blank? @user.errors.add(:password_digest, "can't be blank.") render :edit elsif @user.update_attributes(params[:user]) sign_in @user redirect_to root_url, :notice => "Password has been reset." else flash.now[:error] = "Something went wrong, please try again." render :edit end end Should I be checking for nil as well as blank?   I need some help creating a very simple forum in a existing model. What I want in a Game page, have a mini forum, where is possible create some topics and some comments to this topics.   Let's say I have two Models, Answers and Questions (there are others, but irrelevant to the question). The models are as follows: Answer.rb class Answer < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :description, :question_id has_one :question, :through => :user, :dependent => :destroy validates :description, :presence => true end Question.rb class Question < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :budget, :description, :headline, :user_id, :updated_at, :created_at belongs_to :user has_many :answers validates :headline, :description, :user_id, :presence => true end I'd like to display on a page a list of all answers associated with a question, and only those questions. I got this far. I believe this variable finds all the questions in the database by the question_id (foreign key): @findanswers = Answer.all(params[:question_id]) And this one grabs the the id of the current question (this code will reside as an ERB on the page where the current question is located): @questionshow = Question.find(params[:id]) And now I'm stuck. How do I put the two together so that I list all the answers with the current question id?

All I need is just an online service where i can send a request or something and it tells me whether or not the word i sent was spelled correctly. Another point to note is that all of these tools are applicable for Fusion Middleware as a whole but specific products may or may not have implemented features to leverage them. A couple of the tools have a WebLogic Scripting Tool or 'WLST' interface. WLST is a command interface for executing pre-built functions and custom scripts against a domain. • Biometric access control for time-reporting system

  I made a simple REST application to control the presence of workers. Now I'm looking for an inexpensive (100-250$) hardware, possibly linux based, with a fingerprint reader from which I can perform the user authentication and interact with the application (both the activities) via REST. I saw hundreds of different devices on internet which are supposed to do these activities but there are no good datasheets for them and it's very difficult to understand what's possible to do with those devices.   First an explanation about syncing folders instead of files. The folders in question has images that are not going to be edited and updated with the FTP server, but simply new images added to them. Is there a way to synchronize the presence of the images on both the client on server? The client server is a Windows machine, and while some may suggest using rsync and whatnot, the server is Linux-based but it's a shared webhost so no direct access other than FTP.

We want to look at hosting their Exchange mailboxes so that we can improve presence information through the use of Calenders etc. Whats the best way to do this? Simple VPN connection? • pix 501 encryption license reduces inside hosts to 10

  Hi I have an unlimted pix 501 with no encryption license installed. I have applied for and received a 3DES license. When I install the 3DES license, the inside hosts goes from unlimited to 10. Thankfully I had the presence of mind to keep a note of the old activation key. Is this normal behaviour? I would have thought not as I bought the pix as unlimited. Thanks Cammy

  Hello everyone! At home, I have 4 PLC devices for my home network. Two of them are 85Mb/s powerlan PLC adapters, while the others are 10Mbps powerlan PLC adapters. I have not been able to determine reliably whether the presence of the 10Mb/s ones impact on the speed of the 85Mb/s ones. Is it possible that the bitrate is limited by the slowest devices on the network? Thanks!

  I am writing a program that needs to be able to detect the presence of various web hosting control panels. I don't use Plesk, or have access to a server running Plesk, so I am unable to ascertain what file or directory I could test for to reliably conclude that the system is running Plesk. What file or directory indicates "Yes, this has Plesk installed" that is unlikely to ever change in the future, but would be present on all versions of Plesk out in the wild? Thanks in advance :)

  I'm remotely investigating issue with my friend's WIN XP computer. The browsers (Chrome and IE) won't show any pages but message with err_connection_reset in details. I've tried to perform "telnet google.com 80" and send there "HEAD / HTTP/1.0" from console and everything went fine, but browsers refused to give me anything. I've checked for presence of firewalls and proxy servers in the settings, but nothing seems to be there. What else to check?
