• System Centre Essentials 2007 Clients Losing Status

  Clients that have been reporting their state fine suddenly start reporting "Windows 0.0" for their OS and "Not yet contacted" for their Last Contacted date even though previously these values were present and correct. Any idea why this might be happening? I've spend a long time playing with wsauclt etc and just when I think I've the problem it comes back again! Thanks.

• Sharepoint and SSRS Native Integration - Not seeing web parts after cabinet file install

  I followed the steps here to set up Sharepoint integration with reporting services (SSRS) using native mode. (i.e., get a report explorer and viewer web parts) However after adding the cabinet file e.g., STSADM.EXE -o addwppack -filename "C:\ Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Reporting Services\SharePoint\RSWebParts.cab" -globalinstall I still don't see report explorer in the web parts list. I'm very stuck and confused :-(

• Olympics data available for all on Windows Azure SQL Database and Power View

  Are you looking around for some decent test data for your BI demos? Well, if so, Microsoft have provided some data about all medals won at the Olympics Games (1900 to 2008) at OlympicsData workbook - Excel, SSIS, Azure sample; it provides analysis over athletes, countries, medal type, sport, discipline and various other dimensions. The data has been provided in an Excel workbook along with instructions on how to load the data into a Windows Azure SQL Database using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS). Frankly though, the rigmarole of standing up your own Windows Azure SQL Database ok, SQL Azure database, is both costly (SQL Azure isn’t free) and time consuming (the provided instructions aren’t exactly an idiot’s guide and getting SSIS to work properly with Excel isn’t a barrel of laughs either). To ease the pain for all you BI folks out there that simply want to party on the data I have loaded it all into the SQL Azure database that I use for hosting AdventureWorks on Azure. You can read more about AdventureWorks on Azure below however I’ll summarise here by saying it is a SQL Azure database provided for the use of the SQL Server community and which is supported by voluntary donations. To view the data the credentials you need are: Server mhknbn2kdz.database.windows.net  Database AdventureWorks2012 User sqlfamily Password sqlf@m1ly Type those into SSMS and away you go, the data is provided in four tables [olympics].[Sport], [olympics].[Discipline], [olympics].[Event] & [olympics].[Medalist]: I figured this would be a good candidate for a Power View report so I fired up Excel 2013 and built such a report to slice’n’dice through the data – here are some screenshots that should give you a flavour of what is available: A view of all the available data Where do all the gymastics medals go? Which countries do top ten all-time medal winners come from? You get the idea. There is masses of information here and if you have Excel 2013 handy Power View provides a quick and easy way of surfing through it. To save you the bother of setting up the Power View report yourself you can have the one that I took these screenshots from, it is available on my SkyDrive at OlympicsAnalysis.xlsx so just hit the link and download to play to your heart’s content. Party on, people! As I said above the data is hosted on a SQL Azure database that I use for hosting “AdventureWorks on Azure” which I first announced in March 2013 at AdventureWorks2012 now available for all on SQL Azure. I’ll repeat the pertinent parts of that blog post here: I am pleased to announce that as of today … [AdventureWorks2012] now resides on SQL Azure and is available for anyone, absolutely anyone, to connect to and use for their own means. This database is free for you to use but SQL Azure is of course not free so before I give you the credentials please lend me your ears eyes for a short while longer. AdventureWorks on Azure is being provided for the SQL Server community to use and so I am hoping that that same community will rally around to support this effort by making a voluntary donation to support the upkeep which, going on current pricing, is going to be $119.88 per year. • Upgrade Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium - will I lose recorded TV?

  I'm seriously considering upgrading to Windows 7 on release, especially now that the UK price for doing so is actually reasonable for once, but am worried about losing the ~600GB of TV that I have recorded. AFAIK the recording format changed from the RTM Vista code when the TV Pack (Fiji?) was introduced to OEMs a while back and it is not possible to convert existing recordings to the new format. I'm assuming that 7 builds on the TV Pack code, so will upgrading lose me all my recorded TV?

• How to get the speed of a network card on the command line?

  I am trying to see what the speed of some network cards on a remote server. Our reporting software says they are 10Mbps, but I am sure that is wrong they should be 1Gbps. Our monitoring software uses SNMP to query the servers, perhaps the servers are reporting information incorrectly. ifconfig does not report what the speed of the devices are. How can I see what the currently configured speed of the cards are.

• Incorrect units in iotop output

  iotop is behaving strangely on a opensuse 11.2 server. It all of a sudden started reporting the output in the wrong units. Kilobytes per second are now Terabytes a second, Gigabytes now Petabytes. This server is also having stability issues, so I'm curious as to if the system is reporting things wrong to iotop is related to other issues. Any one else see similar behaviour?

• SSRS 2008 + SSL displays 404 not found

  Hi, I have SQL reporting services configured to use a secure certificate and when I visit both Reports and ReportManager I get a 404 not found error. The reporting services logs do not contain any error information. I am a bit at a loss to know where to start to diagnose this problem, especially as SSRS is not using IIS. I created the SSL binding using the Reporting Services Configuration Manager; IP Address: (All IPv4) SSL Port: 443 Certificate: {the certicate was present in the drop down list} URL: https://mydomain:444/Reports What can I check to get this working? • Sharing a custom datasource between Winforms and Webforms

  Hello, I'd like to create a custom datasource that is shared between a Winforms and Webforms project. This functions as a middle layer for a reporting tool(DevExpress Reporting). The Webforms project is a designer for these reports. So we want for the reports to be capable of going to the server to get data and such. So our datasource would abstract away all the communication overhead. Then, for consistency, the datasource would also run on the server for reporting, except for their would be no communication. What would be the best course of action? There doesn't seem to be such a thing as a DataSource in Winforms. Is DataSource not the thing I'm looking for? Edit: After some research, it appears that IDataAdapter may be good for my purpose. Any opinion on that?

• Is the redistributable ReportViewer 2010 RC available in other languages?

  I need to deploy the language packs for the ReportViewer 2010 control (the english one is installed and working perfectly). Before, with ReportViewer 2008 and 2005, all the supported laguages were available on the MS downloads site. I can't seem to find them for the RC of 2010 -- are they available anywhere? From MSDN: To use the localized version of the ReportViewer control redistributable that comes with Visual Studio, do the following: 1.Run ReportViewer.exe. 2.Navigate to the folder that contains the language pack you want to use. Language pack folders are located at %PROGRAMFILES%\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\BootStrapper\Packages\ReportViewer\. 3.Run ReportViewerLP.exe. Is there a generic language pack for VS 2010 RC that would have the localized report viewers as well?

• Android multiple screen sizes and density problems

  I'm having a real problem with my drawables that I just can't seem to figure out. The problem is this: There are screen sizes at approximately 320x480, 480x800, 480x854 Then there are most commonly densities at 1.0 (160) and 1.5 (240) Now, on a Droid, the screen size is 480x800 and the density is reporting using DisplayMetrics as 1.5 On the G1, it's 320x480 and reporting back at a density of 1.0 BUT tablet devices are reporting back at 480x800 with a density of 1.0 (160) So, I'm going mad because I can put 320x480 images in the drawables-mdpi folder and 480x800 images in the drawables-hdpi folder, but on Tablet computers, no matter what it's not resizing up anything to a full screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just want all of my 320x480 images to scale up regardless of the device.

• Free object/widget in GTK?

  I've got a pack box in my GTK application and I'm replacing it every once in a while with a completely new entry (at least for now cause I'm in a hurry). Since I'm replacing it with a new instance, do I need to explicitly free from memory the old pack box contents or is there some garbage collection in GTK? If I do need to explicitly need to free the object, is there a command that will recursively go to all objects in that tree (like will it clear my button in a box container inside my main pack box)? I'm using C/GTK-2.0 (gcc v4.4.3 and GTK 2.20.0).

But there is some html files where there is no ending tags which is optional or there is no starting tag which is also optional.So html agility pack does not parse that html page properly.If I open the content of that html file in the notepad++ then with the option TestFX-->TestFX HTML Tidy-->TiDy clean document and make the content tidy like this. And now this file If I parse with the html agility pack then it parse it properly. Making html page tidy with notepad++ is best option. So I don't know but user can not do this like first he/she makes the page tidy with notepad++ and then go ahead.Then what should I do ?

• Q&amp;A: Can you develop for the Windows Azure Platform using Windows XP?

  This question has come up several times recently as we take several hundred UK developers through 6 Weeks of Windows Azure training (sorry – we are full). Short answer: In the main, yes Longer answer: The question is sparked by the requirements as stated on the Windows Azure SDK download page. Namely: Supported Operating Systems: Windows 7; Windows Vista; Windows Vista 64-bit Editions Service Pack 1; Windows Vista Business; Windows Vista Business 64-bit edition; Windows Vista Enterprise; Windows Vista Enterprise 64-bit edition; Windows Vista Home Premium; Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit edition; Windows Vista Service Pack 1; Windows Vista Service Pack 2; Windows Vista Ultimate; Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit edition Notice there is no mention of Windows XP. However things are not quite that simple. The Windows Azure Platform consists of three released technologies Windows Azure SQL Azure Windows Azure platform AppFabric The Windows Azure SDK is only for one of the three technologies, Windows Azure. What about SQL Azure and AppFabric? Well it turns out that you can develop for both of these technologies just fine with Windows XP: SQL Azure development is really just SQL Server development with a few gotchas – and for local development you can simply use SQL Server 2008 R2 Express (other versions will also work). AppFabric also has no local simulation environment and the SDK will install fine on Windows XP (SDK download) Actually it is also possible to do Windows Azure development on Windows XP if you are willing to always work directly against the real Azure cloud running in Microsoft datacentres. However in practice this would be painful and time consuming, hence why the Windows Azure SDK installs a local simulation environment. Therefore if you want to develop for Windows Azure I would recommend you either upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7 or… you use a virtual machine running Windows 7. If this is a temporary requirement, then you could consider building a virtual machine using the Windows 7 Enterprise 90 day eval. Or you could download a pre-configured VHD – but I can’t quite find the link for a Windows 7 VHD. Pointers welcomed. Thanks.
