  • JPanel components paint-time problem

    - by Tom Brito
I'm having a problem that when my frame is shown (after a login dialog) the buttons are not on correct position, then in some miliseconds they go to the right position (the center of the panel with border layout). When I make a SSCCE, it works correct, but when I run my whole code I have this fast-miliseconds delay to the buttons to go to the correct place. Unfortunately, I can't post the whole code, but the method that shows the frame is: public void login(JComponent userView) { centerPanel.removeAll(); centerPanel.add(userView); centerPanel.revalidate(); centerPanel.repaint(); frame.setVisible(true); } What would cause this delay to the panel layout? (I'm running everything in the EDT) -- update In my machine, this SSCCE shows the layout problem in 2 of 10 times I run it: import java.awt.BorderLayout; import javax.swing.JButton; import javax.swing.JFrame; import javax.swing.JPanel; import javax.swing.SwingUtilities; public class TEST { public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception { SwingUtilities.invokeAndWait(new Runnable() { @Override public void run() { System.out.println("Debug test..."); JPanel btnPnl = new JPanel(); btnPnl.add(new JButton("TEST")); JFrame f = new JFrame("TEST"); f.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); f.getContentPane().setLayout(new BorderLayout()); f.getContentPane().add(btnPnl); f.pack(); f.setSize(800, 600); f.setVisible(true); System.out.println("End debug test!"); } }); } } The button first appers in the up-left, and then it goes to the center. Please, note that I'm understand, not just correct. Is it a java bug? --update OK, so the SSCCE don't show the problem with you that tried till now. Maybe it's my computer performance problem. But this don't answer the question, I still think Java Swing is creating new threads for make the layout behind the scenes.

  • Is there a simpler way to convert a byte array to a 2-byte-size hexadecimal string?

    - by Tom Brito
    Is there a simpler way of implement this? Or a implemented method in JDK or other lib? /** * Convert a byte array to 2-byte-size hexadecimal String. */ public static String to2DigitsHex(byte[] bytes) { String hexData = ""; for (int i = 0; i < bytes.length; i++) { int intV = bytes[i] & 0xFF; // positive int String hexV = Integer.toHexString(intV); if (hexV.length() < 2) { hexV = "0" + hexV; } hexData += hexV; } return hexData; } public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println(to2DigitsHex(new byte[] {8, 10, 12})); } the output is: "08 0A 0C" (without the spaces)

  • Java Apache Commons users

    - by Tom Brito
Is there anything in apache commons to convert a Object to byte array, like the following method does? public static byte[] toByteArray(Object obj) throws IOException { ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); ObjectOutputStream oos = new ObjectOutputStream(baos); oos.writeObject(obj); oos.flush(); byte[] data = baos.toByteArray(); return data; } [try-finally block closing buffers were omitted to simplify]

  • Where is the visual studio 2010 setup and deployment project template

    - by Tom Brown
In VS 2008, when I create a project I can add a setup project easily. File-Add-New Project... then in Project types: select Other Project Types-Setup and Deployment - and there are a whole load of installed templates - including Setup Project to create an MSI installer. But in VS 2010 - there are no templates in the Setup and Deployment - I'm using the Pro edition, not Express or beta: Is this the same for you - or do I have a duff installation of VS 2010? Otherwise how do I create an MSI installer for my projects?

  • iPad/iPhone uiSearchbar transparent background

    - by Tom
I know this questions was asked(and solved) before, but this wont work for me. as a matter of fact, I had it already solved, but this issue came back out of nowhere and struck me on the head. I am not able to set the background of my UISearchBar transparent. I was always using: searchBar.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; [[searchBar.subviews objectAtIndex:0] removeFromSuperview]; and it worked nicely... but suddenly it stopped. could be since I upgraded my xcode-version but I am not sure. I spent a couple of hours already investigating this.. Is somebody out there to do this? please point me in the right direction. thanks heaps!!! best regards T

  • How to change behavior of items in Firefox context menu

    - by tom
Hi, I'm trying to change the behavior of in placesOverlay.xul. My goal is to disable the Properties entry upon conditions that I need to figure out using Javascript. I am new to XBL bindings and handlers and don't know how to register such a handler for an existing/browser-defined XUL element. Or is there a simpler way? Thanks.

  • Use a "User Macro" in .vcproj RelativePath

    - by Tom Leys
Inside .vcproj files There is a list of all source files in your project. How can we use a macro to specify the path to a source file? If we do this: <File RelativePath="$(Lib3rdParty)\Qt\qtwinmigrate-2.5-commercial\src\qmfcapp.cpp"> </File> The compiler cannot find the folder: qmfcapp.cpp c1xx : fatal error C1083: Cannot open source file: '.\$(lib3rdparty)\qt\qtwinmigrate- 2.5-commercial\src\qmfcapp.cpp': No such file or directory As you can see, our project compiles in several source files from QT. QT lives inside a folder of external libraries, and we don't want hardcode the path from our project to that folder (we have a very large solution)

  • Javascript: replacing newlines with <br/> working in FF and SAFARI and not working in IE

    - by Daniel
I was thinking that replacing \n with with javascript was quite a simple task, but it seems not to be so. Posts in Ask Ben or StackOverflow suggest that something as simple as: dst= dst.replace (/\n/g, "<br/>"); $("div.descr").html(dst); will get the job done. Indeed, this work in FF and Safari but not in IE. Text has been created in a textarea and then stored in a database, then retrieved without further processing. It works using FF on windows and Safari on Mac. IE on windows, nada. Is it a major bug in my head? Is it a JQuery issue? Have some idea about how to solve this? And possible reason for? Many thanks

  • Relational algebra help?!

    - by Tom
im new to relational algebra and finding it difficult. Ive answered a few questions, however they where relatively simple. Could do with help with these though. Database Patient (PatientCode, PatientSurname, PatientFirstname, PatientSex, PatientAge, PatientOccupation, PatientHeight, PatientWeight, PatientAddress) Doctor (DoctorCode, DoctorSurName, DoctorFirstName, DoctorPrivateAddress, MobileNo, Doctor Specilisim) Operation (Operation Code, PatientCode, DoctorCode, Date, Time, Result, OperationType) Is_Seen_By (PatientCode, DoctorCode, Date, Time). Q1. Find the surname and gender of the patients that have been operated on by doctor "DR333" and results have not been successful. Q2. Find the code of the operations that have been done on the 18th of November 2010 and have been successful, please also list the name of the doctors which were involved with the operation.

  • Resolving type parameter values passed to ancester type using reflection

    - by Tom Tucker
I've asked a similar question before, but this one is much more challenging. How do I find a value of a specific type parameter that is passed to an ancestor class or an interface implemented by one of its ancestor classes using reflection? I basically need to write a method that looks like this. // Return the value of the type parameter at the index passed to the parameterizedClass from the clazz. Object getParameterValue(Class<?> clazz, Class<?> parameterizedClass, int index) For the example below, getParameterValue(MyClass.class, Map.class, 1) would return String.class public class Foo<K, V> implements Map<K, V>{ } public class Bar<V> extends Foo<Integer, V> { } public class MyClass extends Bar<String> { } Thanks!

  • iPhone View Switching basics.

    - by Daniel Granger
    I am just trying to get my head around simple view switching for the iPhone and have created a simple app to try and help me understand it. I have included the code from my root controller used to switch the views. My app has a single toolbar with three buttons on it each linking to one view. Here is my code to do this but I think there most be a more efficient way to achieve this? Is there a way to find out / remove the current displayed view instead of having to do the if statements to see if either has a superclass? I know I could use a tab bar to create a similar effect but I am just using this method to help me practice a few of the techniques. -(IBAction)switchToDataInput:(id)sender{ if (self.dataInputVC.view.superview == nil) { if (dataInputVC == nil) { dataInputVC = [[DataInputViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"DataInput" bundle:nil]; } if (self.UIElementsVC.view.superview != nil) { [UIElementsVC.view removeFromSuperview]; } else if (self.totalsVC.view.superview != nil) { [totalsVC.view removeFromSuperview]; } [self.view insertSubview:dataInputVC.view atIndex:0]; } } -(IBAction)switchToUIElements:(id)sender{ if (self.UIElementsVC.view.superview == nil) { if (UIElementsVC == nil) { UIElementsVC = [[UIElementsViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"UIElements" bundle:nil]; } if (self.dataInputVC.view.superview != nil) { [dataInputVC.view removeFromSuperview]; } else if (self.totalsVC.view.superview != nil) { [totalsVC.view removeFromSuperview]; } [self.view insertSubview:UIElementsVC.view atIndex:0]; } } -(IBAction)switchToTotals:(id)sender{ if (self.totalsVC.view.superview == nil) { if (totalsVC == nil) { totalsVC = [[TotalsViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"Totals" bundle:nil]; } if (self.dataInputVC.view.superview != nil) { [dataInputVC.view removeFromSuperview]; } else if (self.UIElementsVC.view.superview != nil) { [UIElementsVC.view removeFromSuperview]; } [self.view insertSubview:totalsVC.view atIndex:0]; } }

  • getting around circular references in Delphi

    - by Tom
Is there a way of getting around circular unit references in Delphi? Maybe a newer version of delphi or some magic hack or something? My delphi project has 100 000+ lines of code mostly based on singleton classes. I need to refactor this, but that would mean several months of "circular reference" hell :)

  • Select no tabs in a UITabBar

    - by Tom
Hi, I'm trying to select no tabs at all in my application. At first the first tab is selected, but I'd like to deselect it so no tabs at all would be selected. Don't ask me why, it's just that way the client wants it! hehe Thanks for your help! PS: I already tried: // rootController = UITabBarController rootController.tabBar.selectedItem = 0; rootController.tabBar.selectedItem = nil; [rootController setSelectedIndex:[rootController.items objectAtIndex:0]]; [rootController setSelectedIndex:nil]; [rootController setSelectedIndex:0]; // That one works : (but I can't select 0 or -1 for instance) [rootController setSelectedIndex:2]; Any ideas? Thanks again!

  • Reports in Java. What tool to use?

    - by Tom
Hi, I need to create some reports, in different formats (xls, pdf, rtf). I am currently using JasperReports, in conjunction with IReport. I have no major complaints about it (except for the cases when IReport messes up my xml files), but i've been having some problems with it, when exporting to xls files and with some "special" characters, such as '&'. Is there a widely use alternative? Is JasperReports the right choice?

  • Should a Unit-test replicate functionality or Test output?

    - by Daniel Beardsley
I've run into this dilemma several times. Should my unit-tests duplicate the functionality of the method they are testing to verify it's integrity? OR Should unit tests strive to test the method with numerous manually created instances of inputs and expected outputs? I'm mainly asking the question for situations where the method you are testing is reasonably simple and it's proper operation can be verified by glancing at the code for a minute. Simplified example (in ruby): def concat_strings(str1, str2) return str1 + " AND " + str2 end Simplified functionality-replicating test for the above method: def test_concat_strings 10.times do str1 = random_string_generator str2 = random_string_generator assert_equal (str1 + " AND " + str2), concat_strings(str1, str2) end end I understand that most times the method you are testing won't be simple enough to justify doing it this way. But my question remains; is this a valid methodology in some circumstances (why or why not)?

  • Which is better? OpenCyc or ConceptNet?

    - by Daniel Loureiro
Hi, I'm doing a NLP project where I need to recognise concepts in sentences to find other similar concepts. I do this to infer word valences from a list I already have. I started using WordNet, but it gave many contradictory results. By contradictory results I mean word expansions that had contradictory valences. So now I'm looking into ConceptNet and OpenCyc. I've already implemented ConceptNet and it was all very easy and I love it. Problem is that OpenCyc appears to have a much larger and more logically rigid database, which is important when I found so many "contradictions" on WordNet... But I wouldn't know because I haven't tried it. Could someone tell me if it's worth going through the (considerable, for me) effort to implement OpenCyc, or is ConceptNet good enough to infer word valences? Are they that different? I'll be happy to explain myself further, if needed. Trying to keep it short for now! Thanks!

  • use viewengine only within certain area

    - by Daniel Powell
Is it possible to use a custom view engine for a specific area only? I have tried public override void RegisterArea(AreaRegistrationContext context) { context.MapRoute( "Forms_default", "Forms/{client}/{controller}/{action}/{id}", new { client="Generic",action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional } ); ViewEngines.Engines.Clear(); ViewEngines.Engines.Add(new ClientSpecificViewEngine()); } Within my area but this seems to be a site wide affect as I'm getting errors specific to the custom view engine when visiting pages outside the area.

  • Specifying schema for temporary tables

    - by Tom Hunter
I'm used to seeing temporary tables created with just the hash/number symbol, like this: CREATE TABLE #Test ( [Id] INT ) However, I've recently come across stored procedure code that specifies the schema name when creating temporary tables, for example: CREATE TABLE [dbo].[#Test] ( [Id] INT ) Is there any reason why you would want to do this? If you're only specifying the user's default schema, does it make any difference? Does this refer to the [dbo] schema in the local database or the tempdb database?

  • MySQL: Storage of multiple text fields for a record

    - by Tom
An inexperienced question: I need to store about 10 unknown-length text fields per record into a MySQL table. I expect no more than 50K rows in total for this table but speed is important. The database actions will be solely SELECTs for all practical purposes. I'm using InnoDB. In other words: id | text1 | text2 | text3 | .... | text10 As I understand that MySQL will store the text elsewhere and use its own indicators on the table itself, I'm wondering whether there's any fundamental performance implications that I should be worrying about given the way the data is stored? (i.e. several "sub-fetches" from the table). Thank you.
