I want to populate the first 2 tables with the records in this table... But with EmpID as a reference between the first 2 tables. I tried this in a stored procedure... This is easy to do with: SELECT * FROM mytable ORDER BY record_date ASC LIMIT 5 OFFSET 4 Which would give me: record_id | record_date | record_value -----------+-------------+-------------- 6 | 2010-07-01 | 180.00 7 | 2010-08-01 | 175.00 3 | 2010-09-01 | 175.00 8 | 2010-09-01 | 170.00 9 | 2010-10-01 | 165.00 But how do I do this when I don't know how many records there are and can't compute the magic number of 4?     Let's assume I have a table with field of type VARCHAR. And I need to get data from that table sorted alphabetically by that field. What is the best way (for performance): add sort by field to the SQL-query or sort the data when it's already fetched? I'm using Java (with Hibernate), but I can't tell anything about DB engine. It could be any popular relational database (like MySQL or MS Sql Server or Oracle or HSQL DB or any other). The amount of records in table can vary greatly but let's assume there are 5k records.

  • GridView in UpdatePanel adds extra rows when sorting another grid

    Hey Everyone, I'm a seeing some weird behavior that i have never seen before. I have two grid in separate UpdatePanels. I can page and sort each without any problems. Each grid is set for 10 per page. If the first grid (13 records) is paged to the second page and then i go down to the second grid (14 records) and page to the next page and the first grid adds a bunch of empty rows to the grid so it is full to show 10. There is no data in the rows...just empty rows. Each grid does this on paging and sorting. Ive stepped through the code and the the loading of the other grids never happens so it tells my AJAX is doing something to add the 'phantom' rows to the grid. Any ideas why or ways to debug this?

  • Optimizing MySQL statement with lot of count(row) an sum(row+row2)...

    I need to use InnoDB storage engine on a table with about 1mil or so records in it at any given time. It has records being inserted to it at a very fast rate, which are then dropped within a few days, maybe a week. The ping table has about a million rows, whereas the website table only about 10,000. My statement is this: select url from website ws, ping pi where ws.idproxy = pi.idproxy and pi.entrytime > curdate() - 3 and contentping+tcpping is not null group by url having sum(contentping+tcpping)/(count(*)-count(errortype)) < 500 and count(*) > 3 and count(errortype)/count(*) < .15 order by sum(contentping+tcpping)/(count(*)-count(errortype)) asc; I added an index on entrytime, yet no dice. Can anyone throw me a bone as to what I should consider to look into for basic optimization of this query. The result set is only like 200 rows, so I'm not getting killed there.

    As I wrap my head around the mvvm thing, the view is the view, and the viewmodel is 'a modal of a view' and the model are the entities we are dealing with (or at least that is my understanding). But I'm unclear as to what and when the model entities are populated. So for example: Lets say I have app that needs to create a new record in a DB. And that record should have default values to start with. Who is responsible for the new record, and getting the default values. Does this have anything to do with MVVM or is that part of a data access layer? Who calls the the viewmodel? Or for existing records when\where are the records retrieved? And saved if altered?   • Program occasionally stuck when writing to ldap

    hey guys, I have 2 databases for my program : mysql and ldap. All transactions happen to mysql, but i need ldap to connect to ip-phones. There's an option to synchronise the ldap database. So when the ldap is brand new, and mysql contains like 200+ records, it may want to update. But when inserting all those entries, it "freezes". It never happens at the same record, it's very random. Sometimes after 70 records, sometimes at 200 the program quits inserting, and gets stuck. This is very annoying. My best guess is that ldap can't handle that much inserts in a short time. Code isn't the problem, as it is a random problem. Does this seem familiar to somebody or is it just me? Thanks in advance.

    I cannot figure out how to set an estimated maximum price for a collection of records. What I want to avoid is to simply use SQL MAX, because maybe there are records with exorbitant prices. For example, in the "computers-hardware" category of OLX (http://www.olx.com/computers-hardware-cat-240) the filter for maximum price is estimately set to $1400, but sorting by price, the first items are above $10000 Maybe they calculated the average and then estimated some maximum price... what do you think? And what about the stepping? How would you calculate it?

I think this is because the datacontext in the UnitofWork object is different to the one in RepositoryA where the data is changed. So when the service calls Save() on it's IUnitOfWork, the underlying datacontext does not have any updated data so no update SQL is fired. Is there something I've done wrong in the StrutureMap registry setup? Or is there a more fundamental problem with the design? Many thanks.

  • Why does tokyo tyrant slow down exponentially even after adjusting bnum?

    Has anyone successfully used Tokyo Cabinet / Tokyo Tyrant with large datasets? I am trying to upload a subgraph of the Wikipedia datasource. After hitting about 30 million records, I get exponential slow down. This occurs with both the HDB and BDB databases. I adjusted bnum to 2-4x the expected number of records for the HDB case with only a slight speed up. I also set xmsiz to 1GB or so but ultimately I still hit a wall. It seems that Tokyo Tyrant is basically an in memory database and after you exceed the xmsiz or your RAM, you get a barely usable database. Has anyone else encountered this problem before? Were you able to solve it?

  • JqueryUI serialize data not working on first record

    I am using jqueryUI v1.8. I have created a modal dialog form to edit records of a table. When the edit link on the record is clicked the record data is displayed on the form and the user edits the record. When the user submits this form the data is serialized and posted via ajax to update the database. This works well with all records except the first one. Nothing is posted to server for update only for the first record. alert(serializeddata); is empty. Similarly, The first form element in every record chosen for editing does not show the actual value the first time. Once you cancel editing and close the dialog and reopen you can see the fields accurate data. How do I resolve this?

For the Oracle procedure, I specified a path for the GeneratedUserTypesAssemblyFilePath parameter to generate a DLL to contain the definition of the data types. In the Send Port on the server, I put the path to that Types DLL in the UserAssembliesLoadPath parameter. I created a map to translate the GetItemChanges() schema to the Update_Item_Region_Table() schema. When I run it the data is extracted and transformed fine but causes an exception trying to pass the data to the Oracle proc: *The adapter failed to transmit message going to send port "WcfSendPort_OracleDBBinding_HOST_DATA_Procedure_Custom" with URL "oracledb://dvotst/". It will be retransmitted after the retry interval specified for this Send Port. Details:"System.InvalidOperationException: Custom type mapping for 'HOST_DATA.TBL_OF_REC' is not specified or is invalid.* So it is apparently not getting the information about the custom data type TBL_OF_REC into the Types DLL. Any tips on how to make this work?

  • How can I convert a timestamp to a user-friendly time string

    I want to be able to present "today" and "yesterday" for recent dates in my application. I've got a date formatter in use currently to show dates (retrieved from data records) and will keep using this for anything more than a couple of days old. I just really like the way the SMS app in the iPhone shows dates for recent messages and would like to emulate this. The time-stamps that I have to work with are generated on a server that the phone downloads the data records from. All times are therefore generated at UTC (i.e. GMT) time. I've been fiddling about with this for a while the solutions I've devised just seem horribly long-winded. Can anyone suggest how to implement a method that could do this? Cheers - Steve.

  • Import Data from text file into sql DB using CSLA

    I am trying to import data from ~ Delimited Text file into SQL Server using CSLA. My text file has 92,000 records in it. Here are the issues i am having with the import When i create a BusinnessListBase .new and add all my records to it, it gives me a "Out of meory exception". So to fix it i create a new bussinessbase object and save it. this works fine and is much faster too. It takes 15 minutes I have to run my program again and check for any changes and hence update them, this is where it takes too much time. Is there any alternative way to speed up my import?

    I have two tables, Customer and CustomerPhone. Single record in Customer can have multiple CustomerPhone records. As you see in the image below, Phone and Fax resides in CustomerPhone table whereas the rest of the fields resides in Customer table. If user want to edits a customer record, obviously i will have to update the record in Customer table and at least two records from CustomerPhone (Phone and Fax). I could write two update statements, one Update customerPhone and the second update Customer table. Is there a better solution?

    I have a simple application to store Contacts. This application uses a simple relational database to store Contact information, like Name, Address and other data fields. While designing it, I question came to my mind: When designing programs that uses databases, should I retrieve all database records and store them in objects in my program, so I have a very fast performance or I should always gather data only when required? Of course, retrieving all data can only be done if it`s not too many, but do you use this approach when you make sure that the database will be small (< 300 records for example)?   • mysql conditional query - complicated!

    i want to get distinct values for a field, let say: field1... ok this needs a query like: "select distint(field1) from table" however for some records, field1 is empty and there is another column that is an alternative to field1, which is field2. now; for the records where field1 is empty i need to use the value of field2. i think i need sort of a conditional select statement with if control something like: "select distinct( (if(field1!='') field1 else field2) ) from table" but i have no idea on how to write it. any help is appricated...

    Suppose that I have a database query which looks like below - select name, gender, birthday from person where person_id = 1; When this query is executed, some records from the database are returned. I want to make a custom object which will contain the exact attributes as the column names, with the corresponding values. As an example, suppose that the object is X. So it will have three attributes which are X.name, X.gender and X.birthday, with the corresponding values from the records. Is it doable in PHP? If so, then how?

    I have one datatable which is not bindided and records are coming from the file by parsing it in the datatable dynamically every time. Now there is three columns in the datatable Marks1,Marks2 and FinalMarks. And their types is decimal. Now for making addition of columns Marks1 and Marks2 's records and store it into FinalMarks column,For that what I do is : datatableResult.Columns["FinalMarks"].Expression="Marks1+Marks2"; It's works properly. It can be done in other way also is foreach (DataRow r in datatableResult.Rows) { r["FinalMarks"]=Convert.ToDecimal(r["Marks1"])+Convert.ToDecimal(r["Marks2"]); } Now I don't know that which is the best way to do this means performance wise. Is first approach same as second approach in background means is both approach same or what?
