• 2012 Oracle Fusion Innovation Awards - Part 2

It was a tremendous honor to be in single room of winners. We only wish we could have had more time to share stories from all the winners.  We received great insight from all the innovative solutions that our customers deploy and would like to share them broadly, so that others can benefit from best practices. There was a customer panel session joined by Ingersoll Rand, Nike and Motability and here is what was discussed: Barry Bonar, Enterprise Architect from Ingersoll Rand shared details around their solution, comprised of Oracle Exalogic, Oracle WebLogic Server and Oracle SOA Suite. • New Computer freezing up at random

  Since I built my system about 4 weeks ago I'v been getting random freezes, Sometimes it can happen directly after startup and sometimes it wont freeze up for 3-4 days of 24/7 running. It seems to be happening under all stress loads but mainly when the CPU is under 10% load. It doesn't give me a BSOD or anything, it simply just freezes and repeats the last sound before the freeze until I shut it down by the power button. I'v re-seated everything in the system except the CPU, Cleaned the RAM sockets and gold fittings. None of the components have been clocked above their factory settings as of yet, don't want to overclock them until I sort out these freezes. Temps are all well under the rated max temps, the highest the temps have been are below CPU: Low load: 16-21°C Full Load (100%) 40-43°C *(From HWMonitor by CPUID) GPU 1: Low Load: 25-30°C Full Load (100%): 45-50°C GPU 2: Low Load: 23-27°C Full Load (100%): 45-50°C *(GPU Temps from Catalyst Control Center) General Case temps Rear: 18-20°C Mid: 20-21°C Front (HDD/SSD Bays): 14-19°C (Case temps may be a little off as it's from the Kaze master pro fan controller) I have Un-installed EVERY driver for Motherboard, GPU & Soundcard and Re-installed twice. Windows is all up to date. To date i'v tried the following Running Memtest for 24 hrs straight, No errors Running Memtest on each individual RAM modules, No errors Reseated everything except the CPU Cleaned DIMM Sockets and Gold inputs Tested the Graphics cards 1 at a time Re-arranged all the SATA devices to run on Chipset controlled ports Re-installing all drivers OS: Win7 Professional 64bit Motherboard: ASRock X79 Extreme9 CPU: i7 3930k 3.2GHz GPU: Sapphire 7950 OC Edition V2 (2 card Crossfire) RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws Z F3-17000CL11Q-16GBZL 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 Boot Drive: OCZ Agility 4 128GB Data Drive 1: Western Digital Black 2TB Data Drive 2: Western Digital Black 2TB Data Drive 3: Western Digital Green 3TB Power Supply: Corsair AX1200 Gold

• High Apache CPU usage, but low nginx - Configured correctly?

  We've just moved a website of ours over to a brand new high-spec Linux server (1x Intel Xeon E3-1230 v2 @ 3.30GHz, 8GB DDR3 ECC, 2x 128GB SATA SSD RAID1). The server has been configured to use nginx but we're not sure if its working correctly. The site always loads very fast to us (http://www.onedirection.net), but Plesk often sends us reports that the Apache CPU usage percentage reaches high leves, yet when we look at the nginx percentage it's always very low. We've come from a Windows background so are very new to Linux, but shouldn't nginx run INSTEAD of apache? Here's a screenshot from Plesk showing the CPU usage: http://www.pixelkicks.co.uk/_download/plesk.JPG The website gets around 20,000 visitors per day, and we use W3 Total Cache to get it running as fast as possible. MySQL has been optimised well. Memory usage is only running at 2GB of the 8GB. Does this look right? How can we tell that nginx is doing most of the work? Thanks, Chris.

• Can you make a Windows network default user profile NOT apply to a certain operating system?

  I would like to create a network Default User account for Windows 7 only. This is on a Windows 2003 domain with servers from Windows 2000 to 2008 R2 and Windows XP on workstation side. We're about to do a full migration to Windows 7 and I'd like to start using the network default user profile functionality as we're not migrating user profiles over. Want everyone to start clean. I followed the simple steps from this page: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/973289 under the heading: "How to turn the default user profile into a network default user profile in Windows 7 and in Windows Server 2008 R2" but the problem is that profile would then apply to a new user\admin logging into a 2008 server. That's no good. Anyone have any ideas on how to limit what actually uses that network profile? I was thinking about setting deny permissions for all my admin\service accounts on that "\\dcserver\netlogon\Default User.v2" folder but then it might be timing out and cause other problems. Haven't tried yet as that seems like a bad way of making this work.

• Munin 2 data not showing up on graph

  I have a fresh installation of Munin 2.0.1 on my Ubuntu 12.04 and the first time I tried to view graphs, it showed them properly(After installation, I had to follow http://munin-monitoring.org/wiki/CgiHowto2 to set it up) After that, the graphs show up, but with with just one data point(single vertical line) as if no data is being collected after I tried it for the first time. In Munin 1.4, there was munin-cron which was run every 5 minutes and I saw new data being plotted in the graph atleast every 5 minutes. But If there is no cron job in v2, How does data collection work with Munin2 ? Is the data collected when the graphs are requested ? The file timestamps in /var/lib/munin have not changed after the first time I tried the graphs. But i do see munin-node process running(restarted in several times). I also see no errors in the munin node log files or apache2 log files. Any idea what could be wrong ? • "Unable to initialize module" fileinfo php-pecl-Fileinfo.x86_64

  I have a brand new server server that I am trying to get setup up. This is a 64 bit machine that I can not install "fileinfo" or "memcache". I have uninstalled these and reinstalled them using yum and pecl with no luck. Yum install fine "no error" but then get error when running php. pecl from what I can tell is only installing 32bit. Does not put anything in the lib64 directory. • Generic RPM package for Python 2.x

  I have a python application, it can run on Python = 2.6 and it's architecture independant. I need the rpm package of this application to be installed on Fedora 14 (python 2.7) and Centos 6.2 (python 2.6). I currently use mock to build one rpm package for each "flavour" and it works well. I apparently can't install the Centos compiled rpm on Fedora. • Red Gate does Byte Night 2012

  On the 5th of October 2012, a team of nine plucky Red Gaters braved the howling wind and the driving rain to sleep outside. No tents or mattresses were allowed – all we took for protection were sleeping bags, groundsheets, plastic sacks and Colin’s enormous fishing umbrella (a godsend in umbrella-y disguise). Why would we do such a thing? For Byte Night, an annual tech sector sleepout in support of Action for Children, who tackle the causes as well as the consequences of youth homelessness. Byte Night encourages technology professionals to do for one night a year what thousands of young people have to do every night – sleep rough.  We signed up for Byte Night in the warm, heady midst of the British summer, thinking it couldn’t possibly be all that bad. Even on the night itself – before the rain began to fall, sat in the comfort and warmth of a company canteen, drinking wine and eating chill and preparing to win the pub quiz – we were excited and optimistic about the night that lay ahead of us. All of that changed as soon as we stepped out into one of the worst rainstorms of the year. Brian, the team’s birthday boy, describes it best: Picture the scene: it’s 3 am on a Friday. I’m lying outside, fully clothed in a sleeping bag, wearing a raincoat, trussed up inside a large plastic pocket, on a ground sheet beneath a giant umbrella, wedged so tightly between two of my colleagues that I can’t move my arms. I’m wide awake, staring up at the grey sky beyond the edge of the umbrella; a limp, flickering white glow hints at a moon somewhere behind the drifting clouds. I haven’t slept since we first moved outside at 11 pm. Outside. Did I mention we were outside? I’m hung over. I need the loo. But there is no way on earth that I’m getting out of this sleeping bag. It’s cold. It’s raining. Not just raining, but chucking it down. It’s been doing this non-stop since 10pm. The rain sounds like a hyperactive drummer on the fishing umbrella, and the noise is loud and relentless. Puddles of water are forming all over the groundsheet, and, despite being ensconced inside the plastic pouch, I am wet. The fishing umbrella is protecting me from the worst of the driving rain, but not all of me is under it, and five hours of rain is no match for it. Everything is wet. My left side has become horribly damp. My trainers, which I placed next to my sleeping bag, are now completely soaked through. Mmm. That’ll be fun in the morning. My head is next to Colin’s head on one side, and a multi-pack of McCoy’s cheddar and onion crisps on the other. Don’t ask about the tub of hummus. That’s somewhere down by my ankles, abandoned to the night. Jess, who is lying next to me, rolls over onto her side. A mini waterfall cascades from her rain-pouch onto my face. Bah. I continue to stare into the heavens, willing the dawn to hurry up. Something lands on my face. It’s a mosquito. Great. Midnight, when this still seemed like fun – when we opened some champagne and my colleagues presented me with a caterpillar birthday cake, when everyone was drunk and jolly and full of stoic resolve – feels like a long time ago. Did I mention that today is my birthday? The remains of the caterpillar cake endure the same fate as the hummus, left out in the rain like a metaphor for sadness. It’s getting colder. I can see my breath. Silence has descended on the group, apart from the rustle of plastic. And the rain, obviously. Someone snores, and I envy whoever it is the sweet escape of sleep. I try to wriggle a bit further down inside my sleeping bag, but it doesn’t want to be wriggled into. Only 3 hours till dawn. 180 minutes. I begin to count them off, one at a time.  All nine of us got to go home in the morning, but thousands of children across the UK don’t have that luxury. • Passenger not booting Rails App

  I'm at the end of ability, so time to ask for help. My hosting company are moving me to a new server. I've got my own VPS. It's a fresh CentOS 5 install with Plesk 9.5.2 Essentially Passenger just doesnt seem to be booting the Rails app. It's like it doesnt see it's a Rails app to be booted. I've got Rails 3.0 install with Ruby 1.9.2 built from source. I can run Bundle Install and that works. I've currently got Passenger 3 RC1 installed as per here, but have tried v2 as well. My conf/vhost.conf file looks like this: DocumentRoot /var/www/vhosts/foosite.com.au/httpdocs/public/ RackEnv development #Options Indexes I've got a /etc/httpd/conf.d/passenger.conf file which looks like this: LoadModule passenger_module /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/passenger-3.0.0.pre4/ext/apache2/mod_passenger.so PassengerRoot /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/passenger-3.0.0.pre4 PassengerRuby /usr/local/bin/ruby PassengerLogLevel 2 and all I get is a 403 forbidden or the directory listing if I enable Indexes. I dont know what else to do! Yikes. There's nothing in the Apache error log that I can see. The new server admin isnt much help as I think he's a bit junior and says he doesnt know about Rails... sigh :/ I'm a programmer and server admin isnt my bag :(

• Linux NIC Bonding Issue (CentOS 4 / RHEL 3)

  I am having an issue with bonding NICs on CentOS 4. It appears the bonding driver does work, but it is stuck in round-robin mode and I am trying to get to active-backup. • Configuring WPA WiFi in Ubuntu 10.10

  I am trying to configure my wireless network on my laptop running Ubuntu 10.10 and am having a bit of difficulty. I am a complete Linux newb, but want to learn it, hence the reason I'm trying to set this up. Here's the vitals: It is a Gateway 600 YG2 laptop. It was previously running Windows XP, but I installed Ubuntu 10.10 in place of it (not a dual boot, I removed XP altogether). I have an old wireless card that I'm trying to resurrect. I haven't really used the card in a couple years, but it seems to still work, I just can't connect to my home's wireless network. The card is a Linksys WPC11 v2.5. When I plug it in, Ubuntu recognizes the network, but won't connect to it. My home network uses WPA encryption and the only connection type that Ubuntu's network manager is giving me is WEP and then it asks for a key -- I have no idea what that key should be. So, basically, I'm asking, is there a way I can instead connect through WPA? I've tried creating a new connection in network manager, but that won't work, it keeps falling back to the WEP connection and asking me for a key. I have tried to install the XP driver using ndiswrapper but I don't know if that's working or not. Is there a way to tell if: A) the card is working as it should B) the correct drivers are installed (again, I installed the XP one using ndiswrapper NET8180.INF, but I'm not sure what to do next) Any help would be appreciated. • "Unable to initialize module" fileinfo php-pecl-Fileinfo.x86_64

  I have a brand new server server that I am trying to get setup up. This is a 64 bit machine that I can not install "fileinfo" or "memcache". I have uninstalled these and reinstalled them using yum and pecl with no luck. Yum install fine "no error" but then get error when running php. pecl from what I can tell is only installing 32bit. Does not put anything in the lib64 directory. • How do I apply multiple subnets to a server with one NIC?

  I am trying to route multiple IPs through one physical NIC on my dedicated server for use with Proxmox KVM VMs. I have a dedicated server which is currently running Debian 4.4.5-8 with 3 available ip addresses for use, which will be displayed as 176.xxx.xxx.196 (main), 176.xxx.xxx.198 (on same subnet as main) and 5.xxx.xxx.166 (different subnet). I am currently trying to route the third IP address with the dedi for use with a vps that I have set up using proxmox v2.x but am having a really, really hard time doing so. Virtual interfaces binding the additional IP addresses work as expected, ruling out external routing problems. The provider has given the following information for the IP addresses on the main subnet: gateway: 176.xxx.xxx.193 netmask: 255.255.255.224 broadcast: 176.xxx.xxx.223 As well as the following information for the IP address on the second subnet: gateway: 5.xxx.xxx.161 netmask: 255.255.255.248 broadcast: 5.xxx.xxx.167 Everything I've tried with /etc/network/interfaces has either not worked, or has rendered the network completely useless.   I'm trying to set up a simple new mail server; when I send a test email to the server the email is getting hung up during delivery (user mapping is found) and the email is never found in /home/user/Maildir/new Here is my maillog after a fresh reboot and test email, there are a few warnings I am unfamiliar with. Yes, this time I'm writing some lines on my (and my family's) activities during our long weekend stay on Rodrigues. So, please bear with me, it's eventually a bit more personal... Obviously, after their aunty from Germany was around during May, they were really eager to travel again. So, we decided that it might be a great opportunity to book some vacations during their school holidays. And just in time the local hotels and hotel groups started to advertise their special promotions for citizens and residents. After collecting multiple brochures over several days, we got attracted by various hotel packages on Rodrigues - most interestingly the expenses for the stay and flight ticket were less compared to other resorts here on the main island. As we have been to Rodrigues already back in 2008, we followed up on this idea and got in touch with a couple travel agencies. Well, I have to report that you should be really careful about the promotions from some of them. We had a very negative experience with Shamal Travel Agency in Quatre Bornes regarding their adverts and the actual price levels and age definition for children. Please, stay away from them if you are interested in transparent cost and services. Anyway, after some arrangements with two other close families we managed to confirm our stay at the Cotton Bay Hotel in Rodrigues. Given the fact that we already stayed there, and the hotel has been renovated recently, and it is under new management all looked very promising and relaxed for our vacation. Counting the days... As we already booked in July our children were counting down the days. And it got more interesting as soon as they were on school holidays finally. Well, the day arrived and waking them up at 2:30 hrs wasn't a problem after all. Quite the opposite it was fascinating for us parents to watch them waiting for the transport and later on during the airport transfer. Despite the early hours both didn't fall asleep and it was all so exciting. We are taking the plane! Well organised by the Cotton Bay Hotel Honestly, it was a breeze and a smooth ride during our stay at the hotel. From the airport transfer, the cleanliness of our bungalow, the organisation of our day trips, and the SPA - all very well and enjoyable. The children had great fun, and although it was a bit too windy to plunge into the pool they had a lot of fun with other activities on the beach and at the Kid's Club. Oh, and we had our private petting zoo with cows, sheep and goats just close to the terrace. Some of us went to check out the SPA facilities and I have to admit that the services regarding Hammam and Sauna are better than at some other hotels in Mauritius. I don't know after how many months or years I was once again enjoying a very hot sauna. Little draw-back but nothing to worry about... There is no cold water or at least ice cubes to cool down the body, but hey there was a nice breeze coming over the hills. Some day trips to mention Based on a friend's recommendation we walked to a "restaurant" called Chez Solange & Robert. Hahaha, restaurant is widely stretched in this case, as we enjoyed a great BBQ with fresh lobster, whole fish, and pieces of chicken breast in an open cottage. Just some wooden structure covered with dried palm leaves on the roof - island feeling pure! The other day we went to the Giant Tortoise & Cave Reserve Francois Leguat to observe the giant Aldabra turtles and to visit the Grande Caverne. The biggest limestone cave on the island. Compared to our last visit this was a novelty after checking out the Caverne Partate. The formations of stalactites and stalagmites are very impressive and imaginative. Our guide had lots of funny terms and despite the low light conditions the kids had a great time wandering around on the narrow wooden paths and stairs. And last but not least, we decided to check out the Tyrodrig zip lines... Everyone was allowed to join the trip through the air, and our little ones stayed close to our field guides. But finally went on their own on the very last traversal. Puuuh, it was astounishing to glide over the valley, and for sure something to repeat next time. Impressions of our vacation on Rodrigues 2014   Next stay has been discussed already Oh yes, Rodrigues baby! We are going to come again! Tentative dates have been discussed already and now it's up to us to earn enough our next holiday on that wonderful remote piece of paradise. Eventually, a little bit longer than this time. • Why is my Network Connections list empty?

  I'm sure this question has been asked before, but none of the links I have found have worked. I've been trying to find fixes for the past couple of weeks. This all started a few days after I got my router. At first, I thought it was just something that would fix it self. But as usual, it never does. I am trying to update my router's wireless card to try and fix this problem, but I need to get the card's information to update it on the HP website. And since my Network Connections list is empty, I can't get any information about it. So to get around this, I tried to go to 'Manage Wireless Networks', and when I tried to get the properties from there, I get this error: Windows has encounter an error saving the wireless profile. Specific Error: The data is invalid. So, what all can I do to try and fix this? Any help will be appreciated. EDIT: Sorry, forgot to put router info. Router Model: WNR1000v2-V2 Router Maker: NETGEAR Router Firmware Version: V1.0.0.12NA The router is up-to-date on all updates.

  I am not sure if this is a bug in mail.app, or a configuration I just can't find. It might also be a strange sideffect of GPGmail. Mail.app correctly displays all e-mails on my IMAP server, except for the e-mails in my "Sent Messages" folder. In the sent messages folder it messes up åäö, in typical quoted-printable with wrong char-set fashion. They become ‰ˆ. • Comparing Nginx+PHP-FPM to Apache-mod_php

  I'm running Drupal and trying to figure out the best stack to serve it. Apache + mod_php or Nginx + PHP-FPM I used ApacheBench (ab) and Siege to test both setups and I'm seeing Apache performing better. This surprises me a little bit since I've heard a lot of good things about Nginx + PHP-FPM. My current Nginx setup is something that is a bit out of the box, and the same goes for PHP-FPM What optimizations I can make to speed up the Nginx + PHP-FPM combo over Apache and mo_php ? In my tests using ab, Apache is outperforming Nginx significantly (higher requets/second and finishing tests much faster) I've googled around a bit, but since I've never using Nginx, PHP-FPM or FastCGI, I don't exactly know where to start PHP v5.2.13, Drupal v6, latest PHP-FPM and Nginx compiled from source.   I am facing an I/O Error when I try to burn DVD data discs on my LG GSA-H12N DVD drive on Windows 7. Note that I was able to do this same operation on the same hardware/software just a day earlier without any problems, but with Windows XP. The only change (AFAIK) has been the installation of Windows 7 to replace Windows XP on this PC. Here is the error I get when I try to burn a DVD data disc using CDBurnerXP 4.2.7.1801: Burning error occured An error occured while burning the disc. Most likely the disc is not usable. Usually these errors happen if the inserted media is not compatible to the drive or of poor quality. (devNTSPTI_IO_Error) Could not write to Disc (LBA: 52864 Length: 32). SCSI Pass-through Interface I/O Error. - 0xFF045D Note that there can be no problem with the discs since I have been using the same discs (from the same box) just before the Windows 7 installation with no problems. The only change has been Windows 7. I tried InfraRecorder v0.5 and ImgBurn v2.5 and got similar I/O errors: Note that Windows 7 lists the LG GSA-H21N drive as being compatible (see this link). I also checked the LG Drivers website and using the firware update from there updated the drive firmware from version UL01 to UL02. But, even this has not helped. The drive reads DVDs without any problem, but continues to produce coasters. Could someone help me figure out what is the problem? Thanks :)

• Passenger not booting Rails App

  I'm at the end of ability, so time to ask for help. My hosting company are moving me to a new server. I've got my own VPS. It's a fresh CentOS 5 install with Plesk 9.5.2 Essentially Passenger just doesnt seem to be booting the Rails app. It's like it doesnt see it's a Rails app to be booted. I've got Rails 3.0 install with Ruby 1.9.2 built from source. I can run Bundle Install and that works. I've currently got Passenger 3 RC1 installed as per here, but have tried v2 as well. My conf/vhost.conf file looks like this: DocumentRoot /var/www/vhosts/foosite.com.au/httpdocs/public/ RackEnv development #Options Indexes I've got a /etc/httpd/conf.d/passenger.conf file which looks like this: LoadModule passenger_module /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/passenger-3.0.0.pre4/ext/apache2/mod_passenger.so PassengerRoot /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/passenger-3.0.0.pre4 PassengerRuby /usr/local/bin/ruby PassengerLogLevel 2 and all I get is a 403 forbidden or the directory listing if I enable Indexes. I dont know what else to do! Yikes. There's nothing in the Apache error log that I can see. The new server admin isnt much help as I think he's a bit junior and says he doesnt know about Rails... sigh :/ I'm a programmer and server admin isnt my bag :(

• SQL SERVER – Recover the Accidentally Renamed Table

  I have no answer to following question. I saw a desperate email marked as urgent delivered in my mailbox. “I accidentally renamed table in my SSMS. I was scrolling very fast and I made mistakes. It was either because I double clicked or clicked on F2 (shortcut key for renaming). However, I have made the mistake and now I have no idea how to fix this. I am in big trouble. Help me get my original tablename.” I have seen many similar scenarios in my life and they give me a very good opportunity to preach wisdom but when the house is burning, we cannot talk about how we should have conserved the water earlier. The goal at that point is to put off the fire as fast as we can. I decided to answer this email with my best knowledge. If you have renamed the table, I think you pretty much is out of luck. Here are few things which you can do which can give you idea about what your tablename can be if you are lucky. Method 1: (Not Recommended but try your luck) Check your naming convention of your system. I have often seen that many organizations name their index as IX_TableName_Colms or name their keys as FK_TableName1_TableName2_Cols. If your organization is following the same you can get the name from your table, you may refer your keys. Again, note that this is quite possible that your tablename was already renamed and your keys were not updated. This can easily lead you to select incorrect name. I think follow this if you are confident or move to the next method. Method 2: (Not Recommended but try your luck) This method is also based on your orgs naming convention. If you use the name of the table in any columnname (some organizations use tablename in their incremental identity column name), you can get that name from there. Method 3: (Not Recommended but try your luck) If you know where your table was used in your stored procedures, you can script your stored procedure and find the name of the table back. Method 4: (Try your luck) All the best organizations first create a data model of the schema and there is good chance that this table is used there, you should take your chances and refer original document. If your organization is good at managing docs or source code, you will get the name of the table back for sure. Method 5: (It WORKS but try on a development server) There is no sure way to get you the name of the table which you accidentally renamed however, there is one way which will work for sure. You need to take your latest full backup and restore it on your development server (remember not on production or where you have renamed this column). Now restore latest differential file of the full backup. Now restore all the log files one by one making sure that you are restoring before the point of time of you renamed the tablename. Now go to explore and this will give you the name of the table which you have renamed. If you are confident that the same table existed with the same name when the last full backup was made, you do not have to go to all the steps. You can just get the name of the table directly from last backup’s restore. Read the article about Backup Timeline. Wisdom: How can I miss to preach wisdom when I get the opportunity to do so? Here are a few points to remember. Use a different account to explore production environment. Do not use the same account which have all the rights and permissions all the time. Use the account which has read only permissions if there are no modification required. Use policy based management to prevent changes which are accidental. If there was policy of valid names, the accidental change of the table was not possible unless it was intentional delibarate changes. Have a proper auditing of the system in place. You can use DDL triggers but be careful with its usage (get it reviewed properly first). (Add your suggestion here) I guess Method 5 will work all the time (using point in time restore). Everything else is chance of luck and if you are lucky are bad – you will get further incorrect name. Now go back and read the first line of this blog. Out of five method four methods are just lucky guesses. The method 5 will work but again it is a lengthy process if the size of the database is huge or if you do not have full backup. • Repository bugzilla package changed to bugzilla3 in Lenny; upgradable?

  This question was asked in debianhelp.org almost half a year ago, but never got an answer. I wasn't the one who posted it, however I was today facing exactly the same question. Not sure if copying it to here as such is considered as inappropriate or something, but there's not really anything that I would even like to paraphrase... So let's just go. (I'm sure you will be happy to close it, if this is not the way to go :) Hello all! We are using a Bugzilla server install on a Debian 4/Etch server and are starting to look at the upgrade to Debian 5/Lenny. I was hoping to upgrade the existing Bugzilla server and database from the oldstable (v2.22) to the newer stable in Lenny (v3) when we get to doing a dist-upgrade. However from testing in a virtual machine it seems that the old package was called "Bugzilla" whereas the Lenny package is called "Bugzilla3" and I could not figure a way to directly upgrade between the two. Is it possible to establish some kind of upgrade path quickly after the dist-upgrade to minimise downtime using apt-get or aptitude? Going on past experiences I would not want to do a fresh install with the Bugzilla3 package and attempt to inject the old database into it (previous attempts failed miserably!) :(
