  • Form input validation with JAX-RS

    I want to use JAX-RS REST services as a back-end for a web application used directly by humans with browsers. Since humans make mistakes from time to time I want to validate the form input and redisplay the form with validation message, if something wrong was entered. By default JAX-RS sends a 400 or 404 status code if not all or wrong values were send. Say for example the user entered a "xyz" in the form field "count": @POST public void create(@FormParam("count") int count) { ... } JAX-RS could not convert "xyz" to int and returns "400 Bad Request". How can I tell the user that he entered an illegal value into the field "count"? Is there something more convenient than using Strings everywhere and perform conversation by hand?

  • How to get descriptive error messages from DB2?

    When I call a SQL statement via JDBC on the DB2 and the statement fails, I catch an SQLException with the following message text: com.ibm.db2.jcc.a.nn: DB2 SQL Error: SQLCODE=-206, SQLSTATE=42703, SQLERRMC=O.METADATENSATZ, DRIVER=3.52.95 I tried an automatic translation of the message according to the error list published by IBM, but there are placeholders inside the messages referencing other elements of the exception. While looking for these elements inside the exception, I found the DB2ExceptionFormatter and tried to use it to access the missing elements. But here I stopped, because the DB2ExceptionFormatter gave me a clue: Error occurred while trying to obtain message text from server. Only message tokens are available. So my question is: What do I have to configure to get the correct messages from the DB2 server? If I can get a human readable message from the server, I could use it directly and wouldn't have to translate it by myself.

    Hello Experts, am I allowed (without any sideeffects) to create and start a new Thread() from within a doGet() Method of a servlet? Or does this somehow leak ressources? Is it valid to also pass the "Session" Object into the Thread to later save the result of my asynchronous processing (I will synchronized correctly) in the session? Or will this leak ressources when using the session "in indepedant threads"? = What would happen if the session meanwhile would be expired by the webcontainer as it has timedout and I will access it from my thread? Or would could this also lead to the sideffect, that storing the session in the thread will prevent the webcontainer from expiring the session at all (and therefore finally leak ressources as the sessions do not get cleared up)? (I know there are other Solutions, like working with DB-(Job)Records, JMS or Servlets 3.0) but I need so solve the problem as described by spanning a new Thread within doGet.) Thank you very much!!   • LF/CR issue with RS232 in Linux

    I've been having this problem where anytime I send a 0xA through an RS-232 in a Linux OS the receiver interprets that as 2 bytes, 0xD and 0xA. Also whenever I receive 0xD the serial port interprets that as 0xA. I've been reading that there are known issues regarding this, has anybody been able to find a solution?

  • Stringtemplate: is it ok to Apply Templates, in which HashMap uses, To Multi-Valued Attributes

    There is two template in my .stg file, and both of them apply on multi-value a HashMap. The HashMap is employed as an injected object. And I need those instance of HashMap can be injected for many times. My trouble is, when I switch to another template, ANTLR seems to consider the second HashMap as a List -- multipul objects and null value.   • Websphere MQ using JMS, closed connections stuck on the MQ

    I have a simple JMS application deployed on OC4J under AIX server, in my application I'm listening to some queues and sending to other queues on a Websphere MQ deployed under AS400 server. The problem is that my connections to these queues are terminated/closed when it stays idle for some time with the error MQJMS1016 (this is not the problem), and when that happens I attempt to recover the connection and it works, however, the old connection is stuck at the MQ and would not terminate until it is terminated manually.     I'm using Jackson 1.9.2 with the XML databind module. I need to tweak the way that Jackson serializes arrays, lists, collections. By default, with an int array property called myProperty containing a couple numbers, Jackson / XML is producing the following: <myProperty> <myProperty>1</myProperty> <myProperty>2</myProperty> </myProperty> What I need to produce is: <myProperty> <item>1</item> <item>2</item> </myProperty> I can do this on a per-POJO basis using a combination of JacksonXmlElementWrapper and JacksonXmlProperty like so: @JacksonXmlElementWrapper(localname='myProperty') @JacksonXmlProperty(localname='item') public int[] myProperty; This solution, however, would require that I manually apply these annotations to every array, list, collection in my POJOs. A much better solution would allow me to apply a solution once, globally, for all array, list, collection types. Any ideas on how to implement such a solution? Thanks!

  • Blackberry: How to properly handle focus traversal in custom field?

    I am writing an app for Blackberry and I have the following problem: I have implemented a custom field by extending the Manager class. The field is quite simple, it consists of a label and two check boxes, yes and no. The fields are laid out so that the label is on the left and uses as much space as it can while still allowing room for the check boxes which are positioned next to each other at the right and vertically centred compared to the label (if it spans more than one line). So it looks like this: This is a question? O Yes O No Everything is fine so far in terms of laying out the fields. But now I am trying to handle focus traversal. First of all the default behaviour when the user scrolls up or down is to move between the yes and no options. I want to move to the next field above or below when up or down is pressed, so I did this: protected int moveFocus(int amount, int status, int time) { if (status == 537001984 || status == -1610481664) { // Up or down was pressed // Don't move focus between yes and no when up or down is pressed. return amount; } return super.moveFocus(amount, status, time); } And that seems to work. The next thing I would like to do is to remember which option last had the focus when the field loses focus, then on gaining focus again (regardless of which direction the focus comes from) set this field to have the focus. I tried overriding onUnfocus and onFocus so that onUnfocus I note which field was focussed then onFocus setFocus to that field. But I get a StackOverflowError, I guess because the call to setFocus on a field within the manager actually calls onFocus for the manager itself again?? So does anyone know how I should be doing this? I checked the DateField and it has the exact behaviour I am looking for, i.e. it remembers if you were last on the day, month or year field and sets this field to focus when the field itself gets the focus.

    I want to understand how to implement an announcement/info box system that displays a box for the user with information. The user can do nothing or close the box, but then it will never be seen again. E.g. Facebook home page. Box asking for Translators. if you leave it then its always there. But if you close it, it never appears again. Does this mean that a Boolean value needs to be used and checked for announcement/info boxes? I'm looking for a pseudo way with database tables to do this?

    Is it possible (and does it make sense) to use the JDO Level 2 Cache for the Google App Engine Datastore? First of all, why is there no documentation about this on Google's pages? Are there some problems with it? Do we need to set up limits to protect our memcache quota? According to DataNucleus on Stackoverflow, you can set the following persistence properties: datanucleus.cache.level2.type=javax.cache datanucleus.cache.level2.cacheName={cache name} Is that all? Can we choose any cache name? Other sources on the Internet report using different settings. Also, it seems we need to download the DataNucleus Cache support plugin. Which version would be appropriate? And do we just place it in WEB-INF/lib or does it need more setup to activate it?

  • Generating a Call Hierarchy for dynamicly invoked method

    Hello, Today's world of dynamic invoke, reflection and runtime injection just doesn't play well with traditional tools such as ctags, doxygen and CDOC. I am searching for a method call hierarchy visualization tool that can display both static and dynamic method invocations. It should be easy to use, light during execution and provide helpful detailed information about the recorded runtime session. Now I guess Callgrind could be considered a valid solution for the family C. What tool / technique could you suggest to create a call graph for both static and dynamic method invocation for JVM based bytecode? The intended end result is a graphical display (preferably interactive) which can show path from main() to each method that was invoked. During research for this post I stumbled upon javashot, it seems that this is the kind of approach I'm aiming at, I would prefer that this would be integrated into a kind of profiler or alike which than can be used from within my IDE (Eclipse, IntelliJ, Netbeans and alike).   • How can I hot deploy using the glassfish adapter in Eclipse

    Has anyone gotten the glassfish v3 adapter to work with Eclipse without restarting every time there's a code change? I tried to set this up but the adapter "republishes" every time I change any file, which is very annoying. It takes up to 3 minutes and locks up my machine for a second. I must remember to constantly stop the adapter before making any changes. I'd settle for just disabling this "feature", but even if I uncheck "publish change immediately" this behavior still happens. I'm using the latest version of the glassfish adapter and tried with eclipse 3.5 and the 3.6 milestone builds.... What setup is everyone using if you have glassfish v3 as your server? Is there any way to actually get the hot deploy feature to work correctly?

  • Is there anything RAD comparible to VCL?

    After years in embedded programmking, I have to develop a windows app. I dug out my old C++ builder and Delphi. These are great and the latest version costs over $1k, so I won't be going there. What I prarticularly like is the VCL (visual component library) which let's me code my own components and share them with others, plus the thousands of existing 3rd party components. I noticed that there is now also a RAD PHP form Borland too. I realzie that MSVC, QT, NetBEans, etc are good enough IDEs for RAD, _BUT_ does anything offer the ease of the Borland products for developing additional components - and does anything else have thousands to choose from? PC based? Cross-platform is good. Browser based? Free is always good ;-) I don't particularly care about the programming language.

    I extended JDialog to create a custom dialog where the user must fill some fields : How should I retrieve the data entered ? I came up with a solution that works. It mimics JOptionPane but the way I do it looks ugly to me because of the static fields involved... UserExistCheck is executed as desired before the call is passed to Klazz. The problem is that this is the only way I got it working. To get this working by using annotations instead of the context file seems to be just too much for my small brain. So... how exactly should I annotate the methods in UserExistsCheck and Klazz? And do I still need something else too? Another class? Still something in the context file?

  • How do you marshall a parameterized type with JAX-WS / JAXB?

So the Result returned by getTeachers() is serialized as containing a List<Person> instead of List<Teacher>, and the same for getStudents(), mutatis mutandis. Is this the expected behavior? Do I need to use @XmlSeeAlso on Person? Thanks! LES

    I have made an application that gives the user the option to open up a new spawn of the application entirely. When the user does so and closes the application the entire application terminates; not just the window. How should I go about recursively spawning an application and then when the user exits the JFrame spawn; killing just that JFrame and not the entire instance?     I want to send an image from a J2ME client to a Servlet. I am able to get a byte array of the image and send it using HTTP POST. conn = (HttpConnection) Connector.open(url, Connector.READ_WRITE, true); conn.setRequestMethod(HttpConnection.POST); conn.setRequestProperty("Content-Type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"); os.write(bytes, 0, bytes.length); // bytes = byte array of image This is the Servlet code: String line; BufferedReader r1 = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(in)); while ((line = r1.readLine()) != null) { System.out.println("line=" + line); buf.append(line); } String s = buf.toString(); byte[] img_byte = s.getBytes(); But the problem I found is, when I send bytes from the J2ME client, some bytes are lost. Their values are 0A and 0D hex. Exactly, the Carriage Return and Line Feed. Thus, either POST method or readLine() are not able to accept 0A and 0D values. Any one have any idea how to do this, or how to use any another method?

  • PriorityQueue update problems

    After going through a bunch of questions here on SO, I still have no idea what exactly is going wrong with my code and would appreciate some help. The problem is that when I debug the program, at some point (near an obstacle), a Node with a fcost of say 84 has higher priority than a node with an fcost of 70. I am not attempting to modify the values once they're on the priority queue. You'll notice that I add at the end of the while loop (I read somewhere that the priorityqueue reorders itself when stuff is added to it), and poll right after that at the beginning. Status of 2 means the Node is the goal, and a status of 4 means that it is unwalkable. public int compareTo(Node o) { if(m_iF<o.m_iF) return -1; if(m_iF>o.m_iF) return 1; return 0; } And that's the compareTo function. Can you see a problem? =(
