  • Windows 7 gadgets changing place when I move from dual monitor to a single one

    Hi, I am using Windows 7 on my laptop. At the office, I have a dual monitor setup through my docking station while at home or during meetings I use my laptop with its single monitor. Whenever I move between these two setups, Windows 7 plays with the location of the gadgets I have and I need to rearrange them each time. Is there a way to tell it to store these settings and locations (both gadgets and icons) so that it will remember their placement on the dual monitor setup and it will remember a different placement for the single monitor setup?

  • How to automate changing my ip?

    I am very new to OSX. I will use my MBP at work and home. I would like to be easily able to switch my ip when changing location. Thus far I have dabbled with the automator, hoping to do something like this: [pseudocode] If IP = 192.168.0.10 root# changeip 192.168.0.10 10.0.0.15 else root# changeip 10.0.0.15 192.168.0.10 The reason for this is that my IP from home will not allow me access at work and vice versa. I have friends and family who drop in now and then, multiple wireless devices set up for the home IP range. Changing all of that to accommodate one new device (the Macbook) would make me reconsider my foray into OSX. I'd rather have the MBP adapt to me than I to it.

  • How do I remove initial indents on numbered lists?

    In Word 2007 I want all numbers in a numbered list to be down the LH margin in line with the paragraphs. When a numbered list is selected, the numbers 1,2,3 are indented by a default 0.63cm. Ctrl-Shift-M will shift this indent back to the left margin. How do I permanently remove that initial indent and save that change to the normal template so that all new documents have zero indent on a newly inserted numbered list? (Same issue in Word 2010)

  • How to set up dual quadro cards on RHEL 5.5?

    I have a RHEL 5 workstation with 2 nvidia Quadro FX4500 cards, with one display attached to each card. After doing a clean install of RHEL 5.5, the second display doesnt work (it worked ok in RHEL 5.2). Neither separate X screens nor Xinerama are working. The kernel version is 2.6.18-194.el5 I've tried nvidia drivers 185.18.36 (the ones that i was using on 5.2) and the latest 260.19.36 and neither works.     I was looking learning Windows Deployment Toolkit. I have been using AIK to create answer files and sysprep to clean the referece computer and imagex to capture and apply images. I have some .wim files I need to keep (they also have an answer file in them). I was wondering, if I start using WDT, can I import these images and have WDT deploy them or do I have to start over with capturing the images using WDT? If I can import, how do you deploy them in the same manner that imagex would use the images internal answer file using WDT? Leon

  • Cannot resize OS X partition

    I am trying to resize my existing Mac OS Extended partition on my Macbook to install Windows 7 (using steps similar to these), but when ever I go to apply the changes, I get this error: Partition failed Partition failed with the error: The partition cannot be resized. Try reducing the amount of change in the size of the partition. The total capacity of the hard drive in question is 260GB, with the entirety being taken up by the OS X boot partition. There is I am aiming to shrink that partition down to 60GB. How can I fix this problem? I have been reducing the amount of change by 10GB each attempt, but it still is not working. I assume the problem is that there is not a large amount of continuous space on the device. Is there some way to can do a manual defrag that would rectify this problem?

    In IE 9 RC or in beta, the embedded video is not shown in the web page. I verified the security settings in "internet options". Did not find any issue. Please find the screen shot below. I am able to view the flash videos in Youtube. But, for some reason, in some sites the embedded video is not shown. I don't have this issue with firefox. UPDATE: I am able to see view the embedded video in Admin account. But not able to view it in Standard account.

  • Software to aid using camera as a scanner

    I want to digitize some index cards with my camera. I'm looking for a program that would automatically fix geometry on the shots (as you would expect the cards come tilted on the picture). I have an app (droid scan lite) on my android phone that does exactly that, but I would prefer to do it on my pc (the phone camera has poor quality and it's slow and focuses badly while I have a decent slr). If the program is open source it's an advantage, cross platform -- even more so.

    Last year I got a new Western Digital WD Blue 500GB HDD to replace my old drive. The first thing I did was to install latest Windows 8. While installing Windows 8 I created 3 partitions, C drive for the OS and others for storage. The OS partition is 120GB (which at the time I thought would be plenty big) but I'm now realizing its too small! I wonder if it's possible to re-size HDD partition without reformatting and re-install my Windows 8. So that is my question, Can i enlarge os c drive of my windows 8 without having to re-format? I've used the Norton Partition Magic and Disk Management to make this happen but there doesn't seem to be any options to make it happen. Thanks for any help you guys can give regarding my question. I've worked hard to optimize my current install of Windows 8 and would hate to start all over again.

    Firefox version: 3.6 My places.sqlite is rather big (114MB, after being optimized by SpeedyFox.) If I turn on auto-complete, it may take 1 or 2 seconds for Firefox to accept a newly typed URL. To reproduce the issue: Type a URL into the URL bar, press enter. Nothing happens, and Firefox consumes 100% CPU (actually 50% of 2 cores) for 1 to 2 seconds Then Firefox start the network connection and load the webpage. Since it consumes 100% CPU, I don't think the bottleneck is the disk. I have some experience with SQLite and I know a 100MB DB is very small. To achieve the delay Firefox must be doing some expensive processing or inefficient queries. The issue does not appear if: auto-complete is turned off, or the URL is frequently used, or a new profile with no history is used Does anyone have any idea how to solve the problem? Should I file this as a bug? I don't want to give up my 100MB history, but I don't want to give up auto-complete either :)

  • DD-WRT router causing IP address conflicts across network

    My DD-WRT router has lost its mind! I just set up two DD-WRT routers, one as a WAP (working fine) and one in Client Bridge (routed) mode (the problem). Not long after setup I started seeing IP address conflicts on other machines. The event log always points the finger at my Client Bridge router's MAC address. Neighbour table overflow The log on my router is flooded with Neighbour table overflow errors. These start a minute or two after boot. The network is rather large, with +200 IP addresses being used in this subnet. The other router shows no such errors. Mass ARP requests from 1.1.1.1 I'm also seeing constant ARP requests (with the problem router's MAC address) from 1.1.1.1. Seems like it's bugging everything on the network for its MAC address and then promptly forgetting it (or never receiving a response). Configuration: Model: Buffalo N600 Firmware: DD-WRT v24SP2-MULTI (03/21/11) Wireless Mode: Client Bridge (routed) I'm not sure what configuration details are relevant and I'd rather not have comments flooded, so just ping me in this chat if you want to know something. I'm not looking for a web based solution - i.e. it should work without a web server, and I want to save my files directly to disk. The result could be any structured format, like Wiki markup, ReStructuredText, DocBook, or a small subset of HTML, ... But it's important, that Subversion diff can be used to see differences between the versions easily (this wouldn't work with .odt or .rtf files for example) I'm currently thinking about using Open Office, and saving the files as HTML, but is there a better solution?

  • Fixing corrupt files or corrupt file table on a USB drive?

    I was doing a virus scan on an external USB drive while copying data over to it. While AVG was scanning my system got locked up I think due to the USB drive running out of space and it required a reboot. Since that time all data on the external drive is no longer accessible. I can see all the files in the root and directories but I cannot browse into any of them as Windows 7 gives an error stating they are corrupt. I think the file table or whatever it uses to store the index of what exists on the drive has been corrupted since it still shows the the drive as being almost full but everything I do a properties check on says it is 0 bytes. Does anyone know how to 'unlock' or recover this data? Is there a way to rebuild the file table somehow? Luckily I can recover this data from other sources as a last resort but I would like to fix this if possible. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Windows 7 wireless not seeing any networks

    I think I have managed to confuse Windows 7. When I did the install, I had the network cable plugged in to my router, but the wireless card was also enabled. During the install, Windows 7 seemed to see my wireless network and even asked me for the WEP key. I know that it used the WEP key because I initially entered an invalid one and it gave me an error. Then the network said "SoAndSoWireless Connected". However, when I unplug or disable my wired network card, then I have no internet, and it can't see any networks. When I plug in the wired network card, it says "SoAndSoWireless Connected". Under Network and Internet Network Connections I have "Local Area Connection" and "Wireless Network Connection". The wired one's status is "SoAndSoWireless" and the wireless status is "Not Connected". Also, the wireless connection can't seem to see any other wireless networks in the area and I know there are tons. My neighbors have several. I've somehow seemingly confused Windows 7 into thinking that my wired network card is my wireless card or something. Any ideas on how to un-confuse it? This is a desktop machine by the way, if it matters. EDIT: Ah, I think part of the problem is that I named my network accidentally the same as the name of the wireless network being broadcast by the wireless router. So that might be why it says that name on the hard-wired connection. Perhaps the drivers just are completely not working for the wireless card. Thanks, ~ Justin

For example Intel i3 CPU was launched in Jan 2010 and in this case, the prices for Core Duo technology will drop. Do you know when or which are the signs? Can we talk about such a pattern?

  • How would you shorten 5,000+ URLs? [closed]

    How would you go about shortening approximately 5,000 permalinks? The links point to a remote media archiving server, and are unlikely to change. Example URLs: rtsp://foo-1.bar.com/xx/xx/xx/xx.rm http://media.foo.org/xx/xx/xx.mp4 The URLs are going to be stored in a local MySQL database, as such it's crucial that the URLs are in a manageable form (i.e bit.ly or ow.ly). There are bulk URL shortening services, but those only allow shortening of 100 links/day, which isn't technically feasible so I need to think of something else.
