  • Google webmaster tools / Geographic location settings

    I am building an website. It has an .nl domain. Now only my domain is showing up on google.nl I hope I can change this somehow that it could be findable in all google's (like google.com / co.uk) and so on. If I look on google forums. They say go to webmaster tools and change your geographic position over there. But I have added this site and I am not able to change it there because there is no select box. I dont have any idea were to search (yes I searched on google offcourse) or where to ask for this special problem. So maybe here can someone redirect me or explain me what is possible and what not.   • 3D terrain map with Hexagon Grids (XNA)

    I'm working on a hobby project (I'm a web/backend developer by day) and I want to create a 3D Tile (terrain) engine. I'm using XNA, but I can use MonoGame, OpenGL, or straight DirectX, so the answer does not have to be XNA specific. I'm more looking for some high level advice on how to approach this problem. I know about creating height maps and such, there are thousands of references out there on the net for that, this is a bit more specific. I'm more concerned with is the approach to get a 3D hexagon tile grid out of my terrain (since the terrain, and all 3d objects, are basically triangles). The first approach I thought about is to basically draw the triangles on the screen in the following order (blue numbers) to give me the triangles for terrain (black triangles) and then make hexes out of the triangles (red hex). http://screencast.com/t/ebrH2g5V This approach seems complicated to me since i'm basically having to draw 4 different types of triangles. The next approach I thought of was to use the existing triangles like I did for a square grid and get my hexes from 6 triangles as follows http://screencast.com/t/w9b7qKzVJtb8 This seems like the easier approach to me since there are only 2 types of triangles (i would have to play with the heights and widths to get a "perfect" hexagon, but the idea is the same. So I'm looking for: 1) Any suggestions on which approach I should take, and why. 2) How would I translate mouse position to a hexagon grid position (especially when moving the camera around), for example in the second image if the mouse pointer were the green circle, how would I determine to highlight that hexagon and then translating that into grid coordinates (assuming it is 0,0)? 3) Any references, articles, books, etc - to get me going in the right direction. Note: I've done hex grid's and mouse-grid coordinate conversion before in 2d. looking for some pointers on how to do the same in 3d.   • Is It bad for SEO to have internal redirected links? [closed]

    I have a large number of pages having similar but not identical content. Example: site.com/dream_dictionary_flying and site.com/dream_interpretation_flying. The problem is that although not being identical, they are sometimes on the edge of being duplicate content. The solution via redirect 301 in htaccess is simple and can be done in a minute, BUT, changing all existing links on the whole site from "/something" to "/something_else" would take ages, it would be thousands of manual changes taking x hundreds of hours. My question is this; is it bad for SEO to have internal links that are redirected, or rather HOW bad is it? For the human user it would not matter at all but from what I have experienced, the search engines don't like it. Is there any rule of thumb here? Please come back with your thoughts and experience on this. Thanks!

  • Jquery website is not opening in UBUNTU but in XP, Everything is fine

    I know it is weird, But I just discovered this, jquery.com is not opening in my ubuntu firefox or other KDE browser and hence many sites that copy codes from code.jquery.com also hanged. Is there any solution to this problem. I have found the problem It is actually with the DNS servers I am using, Google DNS, 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, whenever I use these DNS in ubuntu my system stop responding to some sites, actually they are connected nicely, but the request end up in waiting.. I dont understand why...??? I checked my DNS with cat /etc/resolv.conf Even after using Google DNS, it is showing DNS servers I received automatically after connecting to the service provider. I am connecting using Network Manager, not using DNS I provided but using the default one. Any Solution??

    Interesting find today...   I was perusing the event log on our web server today for any unexpected ASP.NET exceptions/errors. Found the following:   Exception information: Exception type: HttpException Exception message: Path '/builder/builder.sitemap' is forbidden. Request information: Request URL: https://www.bondwave.com:443/builder/builder.sitemap Request path: /builder/builder.sitemap User host address: 66.249.71.247 User: Is authenticated: False Authentication Type: Thread account name: NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE   At first I thought this was maybe an attempt by a hacker to mess with the sitemap. Using a handy web site (www.network-tools.com) I did a lookup on the IP address and found it was a Google bot trying to crawl the application. In this case, I would expect an exception or 403 since the site requires authentication anyway.

  • How do I use apt-get to update to the latest kernel?

    My current kernel is 3.2.0-26 (my main computer) while on another of my Ubuntu computers, with which I didn't fiddle with unofficial updates, it's 3.2.0-30. Yet the Update manager on my main computer doesn't show available kernel updates. It shows other updates though. I suspect is due to the fact that in the past I installed multiple mainline kernel versions (not recommended versions), up to 3.5* series. What I'm after: Either: Fix automatic kernel updates. Or: Learn about a way to check for the latest official ubuntu kernel version and get it manually (I know how to install kernels from debs) What I have already tried: Uninstalled unused kernels including "the generic one without a number" as per http://askubuntu.com/a/103875/29347 and then also https://ubuntugenius.wordpress.com/2011/01/08/ubuntu-cleanup-how-to-remove-all-unused-linux-kernel-headers-images-and-modules/

    In short I am working with a company that does trade shows... one of their new domain names has the word 'sex' in but completely innocently. EXAMPLE: www. someproductsexpo .com (Being 'some' 'products' 'expo'). The content is completely inoffensive and I do not see there being any other things that would flag either the web or any emails sent from anyone@someproductsexpo.com as inappropriate. I was just wondering if any has experiences of any domains like this or comments to add? Thanks

  • Bridging 10GbE with 12.04 - bridging works but the bridging computer has no internet access

    I have been trying to get 12.04 bridging working with two 10GbE cards. I have 2 10GbE cards in a linux box being used only for this bridge, 1 with 2 10GbaseT ports and another with a single CX4 port. I have 2 client computers connected with 10GbaseT cards and the CX4 card connects to a procurve switch. I can get the bridging happening mostly the way that I want, The clients receive dhcp information from the dhcp server (not the bridging machine) and can connect to and properly see the rest of the network. Speeds are ok, not amazing but working on that is another matter. My problem is that the bridging machine has no internet access ... meaning I can't update anything or apt-get anything It can ping all other machines on the local network. I've tried the helpful hints from: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NetworkConnectionBridge "Enabling Internet Use on the Bridging Computer" and get the following RTNETLINK answers: File exists but dhclient br0 does nothing for me :( I think if it is anything it a multiple route problem as both br0 and eth4 have ipaddresses ... even though I have only set it up so that br0 has one ...     I have a question on redirects. HTTP status code checker tool shows "HTTP/1.1 302 Moved Temporarily" for the home page url http://someurl.com (just a namesake url). Also, this url opens up http://www.someurl.com/general/index. As you can see, a non-www url to a www url redirect is happening. My questions are: Is a 302 redirect acceptable for the home page? Will this affect the site showing up in search results in anyway? Isnt redirection to /general/index a bad practice?

    I want crawlers to have access to http://www.example.com but not http://www.example.com/ My robots.txt is as follows: User-agent: * Allow: /$ Disallow: / My site is in google search results, but I am not coming up in Bing, Yahoo, etc. I have had the same robots.txt since last year, and I initially requested inclusion ~1 year ago, having also resubmitted the URL to those latter search engines several times since as well. Is my robots.txt blocking those other crawlers? And if so, why not google as well? Thanks in advance!

  • Is this DFP error message the reason my ad won't show?

    I'm setting up DFP to display ads and I have an ad tag (Javascript) from adtechus.com. The tag looks like this: <script src="http://adserver.adtechus.com/?adrawdata/1.0/1111/11111/0/0/ADTECH;loc=100;noperf=1;"></script> When I paste that tag into DFP, I get an error message saying it does't recognize the tag format: ...and, more importantly, my ad isn't showing on the page. DFP seems to be taking my adtechus ad tag regardless and working with it, despite the error message. But could that be the reason my ad isn't showing? And how can I fix it?

    This is a search relating to us: https://twitter.com/#!/search/realtime/scirra We're getting a of of new accounts tweeting: The Layers Bar - Scirra.com Firstly this is not us doing it as we're quite proud of doing everything completely whitehat. Also this tweet doesn't make any sense, "The Layers Bar" seems to be referring to a manual entry of ours. They all seem to be new accounts with no followers and no prior tweets coming in like clockwork every hour. Does anyone know why this could be happening? Could this harm us? It it possible to find out the source of this? I should mention I'm hesitant to report them all as spam because it could look like we are the culprits.

  • Changed url from non www to www...Google Indexing

    I have recently changed (about 1 week ago) my url from non www version to www version. I told my hosting company to do this and they did it successfully all my urls are directed to www version. But google is indexing my non www version on the search results. I have updated new content on my website and google indexes that content with the changed url i.e with prefix www but the mainpage i.e the site name is still shown without www and its not updated. I have checked that my www.sitename.com is listed on google but not shown when I type www.sitename.com. So how much time does it take to remove the old urls from indexing and updating into new urls ??????

    How to know whether it's worth it to replace open source drivers installed by default with proprietary ones. Are there any benchmarks? Major known issues summaries. I don't mean 'at the time of writing this post'. I mean an up-to-date status on how the drivers compare. This page https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ certainly doesn't do much on the matter, nor it even mentions Intel. EDIT: I've just learned there is no Intel proprietary driver because they made their drivers open source http://askubuntu.com/a/17395/29347
