• Can I have different name and id attributes on a form element?

  Hi all, I have a web form with usual elements (first name, last name, etc). The Postback URL is a different website altogether as the form is intented to post lead information to another website. The site that accepts the lead is expecting First Name to come over as "FName", and Last Name to come over as "LName". Is there any way I can set the ID of a textbox to "txtFName", but submit it over the wire as "FName"? I tried changing the name attribute, but at runtime it sets the name = id.

  I want to be able to add an attribute to a HTML element to be able to identify what its referring to. E.g if I have a list of names and a checkbox next to each name, like this: <div id="users"> Bob smith <input type=checkbox /> </div> And when a checkbox is clicked and the event handler function for it is called, I want to be able to identify which user was selected/unselected. Ideally I'm looking for something like this: <input type=checkbox data-userId = "xxx" /> Then when its clicked: function handleClick() { var userId = $(this).attr('data-userId'); } However I'm looking to do this in a way that won't break my HTML validation, and would still be valid HTML and work in all browsers.   I'm coming from intermediate java level and I wanted to spend some time tonight learning C#, partly because a game I used to play is now free to play (Asheron's Call) and when I used to play I had always wanted to write a plugin for Decal but 10 years ago I didn't know nearly enough to do anything. Anyways most of that won't mean much to anyone, but what I essentially want to do is something along the lines of (psuedo code): [KeyPressEvent("KeyPressed")] private void KeyPressed(object sender, KeyPressEventArgs args) { if (args.KeyPressed == VK_K) { // Do stuff } } If I'm not providing enough information or if my description of what I want to do is a little off base let me know. Most plugins for this are written in VB6, but in the past few years Decal has upgraded to .NET 3.5 support so I can use things up until there; a lot of the VB6 stuff uses event subscriptions (e.g. Core.EchoFilter.ServerDispatch += EchoFilter_ServerDispatch;) My C# vernacular is not up to part, but on that notion I haven't done a whole lot of Java projects that related to events (or Observers as I believe they're referred to as).

• Subsonic Access To App.Config Connection Strings From Referenced DLL in Powershell Script

  I've got a DLL that contains Subsonic-generated and augmented code to access a data model. Actually, it is a merged DLL of that original assembly, Subsonic itself and a few other referenced DLL's into a single assembly, called "PowershellDataAccess.dll. However, it should be noted that I've also tried this referencing each assembly individually in the script as well and that doesn't work either. I am then attempting to use the objects and methods in that assembly. In this case, I'm accessing a class that uses Subsonic to load a bunch of records and creates a Lucene index from those records. The problem I'm running into is that the call into the Subsonic method to retrieve data from the database says it can't find the connection string. I'm pointing the AppDomain at the appropriate config file which does contain that connection string, by name. Here's the script. $ScriptDir = Get-Location [System.IO.Directory]::SetCurrentDirectory($ScriptDir) [Reflection.Assembly]::LoadFrom("PowershellDataAccess.dll") [System.AppDomain]::CurrentDomain.SetData("APP_CONFIG_FILE", "$ScriptDir\App.config") $indexer = New-Object LuceneIndexingEngine.LuceneIndexGenerator $indexer.GeneratePageTemplateIndex("PageTemplateIndex"); I went digging into Subsonic itself and the following line in Subsonic is what's looking for the connection string and throwing the exception: ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings[connectionStringName] So, out of curiosity, I created an assembly with a single class that has a single property that just runs that one line to retrieve the connection string name. I created a ps1 that called that assembly and hit that property. That prototype can find the connection string just fine. Anyone have any idea why Subsonic's portion can't seem to see the connection strings?

• Integrating a Custom Compiler with the Visual Studio IDE

  Background: I want to create a custom VB compiler, extending the "original" compiler, to handle my custom compile-time attributes. Question: after I've created my custom compiler and I've got an executable file capable of compiling VB code via the standard command-line interface, how do I integrate this compiler with the Visual Studio IDE? (such that pressing "compile" or "build" will make use of my compiler instead of the default compiler). EDIT: (Correct me if i'm wrong) From the reactions here, I see this question is a bit shocking, so I shall further explain my needs and background: .NET provides us with a great mechanism called Attributes. As far as I understand, making attributes apply their intended behavior upon the attributed element (assembly, module, class, method, etc.) - attributes must be reflected upon. So the real trick here is reflecting and applying behavior at the right spot. Lets take Serialization for example: We decorate a class with the Serializable attribute. We then pass an instance of the class to the formatter's Serialize method. The formatter reflects upon the instance, checking if it has the Serializable attribute, and acting accordingly. Now, if we examine the Synchronization, Flags, Obsolete and CLSCompliant attributes, then the real question is: who reflects upon them? At least in some cases, it has to be the compiler (and/or IDE). Therefore, it seems that if I wish to create custom attributes that change an element's behavior regardless of any specific consumer, i must extend the compiler to reflect upon them at compilation. Of course, these are not my personal insights: the book "Applied .NET Attributes" provides a complete example of creating a custom attribute and a custom C# compiler to reflect upon that attribute at compilation (the example is used to implement "java-style checked exceptions").

• How exactly do MbUnit's [Parallelizable] and DegreeOfParallelism work?

  I thought I understood how MbUnit's parallel test execution worked, but the behaviour I'm seeing differs sufficiently much from my expectation that I suspect I'm missing something! I have a set of UI tests that I wish to run concurrently. All of the tests are in the same assembly, split across three different namespaces. All of the tests are completely independent of one another, so I'd like all of them to be eligible for parallel execution. To that end, I put the following in the AssemblyInfo.cs: [assembly: DegreeOfParallelism(8)] [assembly: Parallelizable(TestScope.All)] My understanding was that this combination of assembly attributes should cause all of the tests to be considered [Parallelizable], and that the test runner should use 8 threads during execution. My individual tests are marked with the [Test] attribute, and nothing else. None of them are data-driven. However, what I actually see is at most 5-6 threads being used, meaning that my test runs are taking longer than they should be. Am I missing something? Do I need to do anything else to ensure that all of my 8 threads are being used by the runner? N.B. The behaviour is the same irrespective of which runner I use. The GUI, command line and TD.Net runners all behave the same as described above, again leading me to think I've missed something. EDIT: As pointed out in the comments, I'm running v3.1 of MbUnit (update 2 build 397). The documentation suggests that the assembly level [parallelizable] attribute is available, but it does also seem to reference v3.2 of the framework despite that not yet being available. I can get $data->{'parent'}->title, it works but if I try to get value of href using $data->{'parent'}->link[0]->{'@attributes'}->href .. it doesnt work .. any ideas?   Hey, I've been building a silverlight application and a WCF service for a while now and recently tried to host them in IIS7. I installed IIS7 on Windows Server 2008 R2 and added these two application to my default website. I am having a number of problems so im hoping one of you can help out... 1) The silverlight and WCF service applications do not work with pass-through authentication. I need to "connect as" the administrator server account when setting up the application. I read online that you should only need to use the "connect as" field when you are connecting to another computer. If i dont supply the admin credentials i get this error. Do i have to set up permissions somewhere else? HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid. • 'Step Into' is suddenly not working in Visual Studio

  All of a sudden, I have run into an issue where I cannot step into any code through debugging in Visual Studio. The step over works fine, but it refuses to step into (F11) any of my code. This was working before, now all of a sudden it does not. I've tried some things below, but I still had no success: Delete all bin files in every project in my solution, clean solution, re-build solution. Build projects in solution indivdualy Restart machine It an ASP.NET C# application consuming a WCF sevice locally. It is in debug mode. I have a breakpoint set on the page consuming the service. The breakpoint hits, but it will not step into the service code. The ASP.NET site and the service code is all in the same solution. This all of a sudden does not work, it did work before. How can I fix this problem? Adding a breakpoint to the service project I get a warning: Breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document. I deleted all the bin folders for all the projects and re-built them one by one. They all succeeded, but still I am getting the symbols won't load on any breakpoint I put into any project in the solution other than the ASP.NET project where the breakpoint works. I was able to debug step into all the projects before, this is an all of a sudden thing. Information from the output window.. • Cisco ASA Site-to-Site VPN Dropping

  I have three sites, Toronto (1.1.1.1), Mississauga (2.2.2.2) and San Francisco (3.3.3.3). All three sites have ASA 5520. All the sites are connected together with two site-to-site VPN links between each other location. My issue is that the tunnel between Toronto and San Francisco is very unstable, dropping every 40 min to 60 mins. The tunnel between Toronto and Mississauga (which is configured in the same manner) is fine with no drops. I also noticed that my pings with drop but the ASA thinks that the tunnel is still up and running. Here is the configuration of the tunnel. We haven't been able to reproduce this behavior and the sites seem to work fine for days or weeks at a time (and many App Pool recycles) before failing. Has anybody else seen similar behavior? Update: We've tried reproducing the failure by setting up a few hundred sites and writing a script to hit them repeatedly while recycling the App Pool once every couple of minutes and were unable to accomplish much other than loading down the server's CPU for a few days straight. We then tried messing (locking one of the DLLs, changing the file permissions) with the copies of the DLLs that ASP.NET makes and managed to reproduce similar behavior but not the same exception. Does anybody have any ideas on how to adjust the security policy to get it to throw a System.Security.Policy.PolicyException: Execution permission cannot be acquired. when loading a specific DLL?
