• In utf-8 collation, why 11- is less then 1- ?

  I found that the sort result in ASCII: 1- 11- and in UTF-8: 11- 1- I feel it's so counter-intuitive, and it's not dictionary order. Isn't the character '-' (002d) is always less then [0-9] (0030-0039)? What's the general rule in UTF-8 collation? And how to bypass it, just make - be less then [0-9] while keep other characters unchanged for UTF-8, in Linux? (So it can affects the result of ls --sort, sort, etc. )

• How I can view and block specific applications temporarily from accessing Internet?

  I don't want to block any application permanently from accessing internet. I just want to block some specific applications for a particular time period to gain speed in running some other. I know about one such great tool - that is "Comodo firewall". It can smoothly block and accurately display apps accessing internet. The only problem of installing this is, Windows recommends only one firewall apps and as Im running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate there will be complications if I install this one. I need a tool which can accurately display which apps are accessing internet (through which port) and how much data they are receiving or sending. I also need some arrangement within the app so that I can easily temporarily block that app from accessing internet.

• SQL – Quick Start with Explorer Sections of NuoDB – Query NuoDB Database

  This is the third post in the series of the blog posts I am writing about NuoDB. NuoDB is very innovative and easy-to-use product. I can clearly see how one can scale-out NuoDB with so much ease and confidence. In my very first blog post we discussed how we can install NuoDB (link), and in my second post I discussed how we can manage the NuoDB database transaction engines and storage managers with a few clicks (link). Note: You can Download NuoDB from here. In this post, we will learn how we can use the Explorer feature of NuoDB to do various SQL operations. NuoDB has a browser-based Explorer, which is very powerful and has many of the features any IDE would normally have. Let us see how it works in the following step-by-step tutorial. Let us go to the NuoDBNuoDB Console by typing the following URL in your browser: http://localhost:8080/ It will bring you to the QuickStart screen. Make sure that you have created the sample database. If you have not created sample database, click on Create Database and create it successfully. Now go to the NuoDB Explorer by clicking on the main tab, and it will ask you for your domain username and password. Enter the username as a domain and password as a bird. Alternatively you can also enter username as a quickstart and password as a quickstart. Once you enter the password you will be able to see the databases. In our example we have installed the Sample Database hence you will see the Test database in our Database Hierarchy screen. When you click on database it will ask for the database login. Note that Database Login is different from Domain login and you will have to enter your database login over here. In our case the database username is dba and password is goalie. Once you enter a valid username and password it will display your database. Further expand your database and you will notice various objects in your database. Once you explore various objects, select any database and click on Open. When you click on execute, it will display the SQL script to select the data from the table. The autogenerated script displays entire result set from the database. The NuoDB Explorer is very powerful and makes the life of developers very easy. If you click on List SQL Statements it will list all the available SQL statements right away in Query Editor. You can see the popup window in following image. Here is the cool thing for geeks. You can even click on Query Plan and it will display the text based query plan as well. In case of a SELECT, the query plan will be much simpler, however, when we write complex queries it will be very interesting. We can use the query plan tab for performance tuning of the database. Here is another feature, when we click on List Tables in NuoDB Explorer.  It lists all the available tables in the query editor. This is very helpful when we are writing a long complex query. Here is a relatively complex example I have built using Inner Join syntax. Right below I have displayed the Query Plan. The query plan displays all the little details related to the query. Well, we just wrote multi-table query and executed it against the NuoDB database. You can use the NuoDB Admin section and do various analyses of the query and its performance. NuoDB is a distributed database built on a patented emergent architecture with full support for SQL and ACID guarantees.  It allows you to add Transaction Engine processes to a running system to improve the performance of your system.  You can also add a second Storage Engine to your running system for redundancy purposes.  Conversely, you can shut down processes when you don’t need the extra database resources. NuoDB also provides developers and administrators with a single intuitive interface for centrally monitoring deployments. Now in loop one of assign activity you need to access a particular node for e.g. For first time loop runs you want to access first node and second time second node and so on. You need to make use of postion() function like bpws:getVariableData('Receive1_Read_InputVariable','body','/ns4:EmpCollection/ns4:Emp[position()=$loopCounter]/ns4:job') Please Note: Here loopCounter is a variable that we have created of type xsd:int and prior to loop we have initialized a value of 1.   I installed Ubuntu 13.04 alongside my Windows Vista, at the start of installation it doesn't connect to the internet to download updates during installation, also during installation towards the end it removes a lot of stuff that i couldn't catch the details of at the time, it won't find my internet connection even though windows does, i tried using the ethernet cable but it wouldn't pick that up either. So i clicked in Ubuntu... System, network-Browse Internet, then Windows Internet and it said "failed to retrieve share list from server:no such file or directory" how can i get Ubuntu to find my internet???

  My PC has 2 wired cards. Both gigalan. It also has 2 wireless cards. One broadcom with proprietary drivers and ralink with open software (which works much better than broadcom). My cellphone can share its connection wirelessly to my PC. But I also have a wired connection. So I have multiple connections that I can use to have internet. How can I merge 2 or more connections together and balance them to enjoy one unified internet experience that it is the sum of all internet connections connected to it. For example if I have an internet connection that offers 1024KB/Sec and another that offers 512KB/Sec and one small one that offers 128KB/Sec, after load balancing and merging all connections, I could download at a speed of 1664KB/Sec using all 3 internet connections as one for example. This question has always intrigued me.

  Recently i have some problems accessing websites. When i try to access it says This webpage is not available. I tried accessing the site through FireFox, Internet Explorer and Chrome. I also tried with using a web proxy but still the same problem. This problem is only in my Desktop PC, all the websites works fine in my laptop Currently i cant access, yahoo.com download.com bing.com proxy.org daniweb.com aol.com and many forums I check with the host file but nothing is blocked in that.   Hi. I have a table with some columns. Something like this: tr1td1 one remove button tr1td2 one remove button ... The table has the size of the div#outer When I click remove button I remove with jquery the entire column . In Firefox everything's fine the table's columns resize to fill the div but in Internet Explorer the table's columns remain just as they are. It's like the browser doesn't refresh the css style. Because if I refresh the page the table looks just as it shoud be. Any ideas?

  I am currently using IE7 with XP SP3. When a webpage download with unknown file type loads, I get a prompt asking me what I want to do with the file. My options are FIND SAVE CANCEL. How do I make it so that I don't get this popup prompt, but Internet explorer automatically downloads the file into a directory I choose without asking? PS. I have already tried Tools Internet Options Security Internet Custom Level Downloads Disable/Enable/Enable, but this doesn't help. Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I have to use IE. I'm using it in connection with other proprietary software based on IE and its settings. And yes I'm aware it's not a great browser. (This is not for strictly personal use in the browsing sense. )

• Where to find other versions of Opera browser as deb packages?

  I used Opera mainly for the Unite feature now to be abandoned. It is missing in v. 12. Some say its features will re-emerge in future extensions etc. Until then, Unite is still accessible in v. 11. Where do I get the v.11 deb? P.S. In fact it seems that opera unite (at least in its older form) is dying while I am editing this question. Access to opera-unite applications from within opera-unite is poor or absent. This issue is obscure to me for now (31.08.2012) because yesterday I have installed v12 in Windows OS (with opera-unite and basic applications - file sharing and media player - already installed) and it is still working (server is working). The v12 Ubuntu version came today without unite, and after installing v11 (which has unite) I could not get applications (file sharing, etc). But they are still available: here and after downloading these files which have te .ua extension, they can be installed by opening them with Opera (v.11) But as opera-unite is no longer supported, it is possible that the server that provides the file sharing etc will soon be unaccessible. Even if that is the case the question should maybe not be closed at it has a general usefulness independently of the unite issue.

  I'm running WinXP SP2. Around 50% of the time, when I slot in my USB drive. Windows explorer refuses to show the drive. If I click on the Safely remove hardware icon on the tray, I can see a menu item for the drive - say drive G: (the light on the USB drive is also on) If I type in G: into the address bar of explorer, it says 'Cannot find...' If I type in G: into a command prompt window, it works and I can do a dir to see the list of directories on the drive. To fix this, I've to remove-reinsert the pen-drive. But doing it every day is annoying. Also this happens only on this machine.. I use this drive on my home machine and it works flawlessly each time. Can anyone suggest things that I could try ?   I have a file explorer shell extension called "Copy File Path" or "Copy Folder Path", depending on which pane I am in in file explorer, which copies the full path of a file or a folder to the clipboard. Because it's very handy for me, I use it many times during the day. To make it more productive, I would like to assign a function key to it instead of using the right mouse click context menu, looking for it in the menu (big menu because of many extensions) and selecting it. The way I want to use it is select the file with the mouse and hit the function key. Is there a utility or tool, tray taskmaybe, which can add this functionality to Windows?

• Sharing an internet connection through the Ethernet port

  I have a small living room PC (Bohica, running fully-updated Ubuntu 10.10/Maverick) connected to my HDTV that I use for web browsing and media streaming. It connects via WiFi (wlan0) to my Fedora server (Snafu) that in turn connects to the internet. I use static addressing, and everything has been working fine. I just got a Blu-ray player, and I'd like to give it wired network access to the internet via Bohica's available wired ethernet port (eth0). So far, I haven't been to get eth0 and the network configured to get the Blu-ray player talking to the internet. Here's my wlan0 configuration: ip4 addr: 192.168.0.100 mask: /24 (255.255.255.0) gateway: 192.168.0.4 (fedora box) The Blu-ray player is set to an IP of 192.168.0.98/24, with the same gateway as above. I want eth0 set to an IP of 192.168.0.99/24, but when I do this using nm-connection-editor I lose internet access (the system tries to use eth0 as the default internet access interface). How do I get my blu-ray player to talk to the internet through Bohica, and do so without disrupting my current (working) network? Thanks. • Is there any way to get tree organisation for Windows 7 file explorer favorites?

  In XP there was a MenuBar called Favorites which seemed to be based on Internet Explorer Favorites. It was fantastic because it allowed for very fast tree style navigation (if set up correctly you could navigate it using first letter keystrokes, so to access a shortcut named "videos" in a folder named "files" was as quick as Alt-A f v) This was removed in Vista (and imo generally regressed the file explorer). This was fine because I never used it, but I'm resigned to eventually embracing the inevitability that is Windows 7. Dealing with a single non-nested list of favourites is pretty painful to me as I have quite a lot of them. Is there a way to make a tree like favorites structure in Windows 7? My fingers are crossed.
