    I am encountering a problem for my database. Here is the relationships of the database And tried to do the query for how many transactions have movie "Harry_Potter"? so I used SQL query: SELECT COUNT(td.movie) AS number_of_occurrence, td.transaction_number FROM TransactionDetails td, MovieDetails md WHERE md.movie = Harry_Potter But it asks for Harry_Potter enter parameter value why?     I have a combo box with a row source based on an SQL query about like SELECT DISTINCT Database_New.ASEC FROM Database_New WHERE Database_New.Date= DateSerial([cboYear], 1, 1) And Database_New.Date<= DateSerial([cboYear], 12, 31); the trouble is that if I change the value of cboYear, the values in the drop down cboASEC do not update. I have to open the query, save it and close it to get the thing to update while I have the form open. Is there a way to get the cboASEC to update somehow? maybe a little tidbit of code in the cboYear - afterupdate?

    i am inserting values into a table if the record exists already replace it, and if it does not exist then add a new one. so far i have this code: INSERT INTO table_name VALUES (value1, value2, value3,...) where pk="some_id"; but i need something like this if not pk="some_id" exists then INSERT INTO table_name VALUES (value1, value2, value3,...) where pk="some_id"; else update table_name where pk="some_id" what would be the correct SQL syntax for this? please note that i am using sql access and that i guess it can be a combination of vba and sql

    My two tables are titled analyzed and analyzedCopy3. I'm trying to put information from analyzedCopy3 into multiple columns in analyzed. Sample data from analyzedCopy3: readings_miu_id OriginalCol ColRSSIz 110001366 Frederick Road -108 110001366 Steel Street 110001366 Fifth Ave. 110001508 Steel Street -104 What I want to do is put the top 3 OriginalCol, ColRSSIz combinations into columns that I have in the table analyzed. In analyzed there is only one record for each unique readings_miu_id. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Additional Info: By "top 3 OriginalCol, ColRSSIz combinations" I mean the first 3 combinations with the highest value in the ColRSSIz column. For any readings_miu_id there could be anywhere from 1 row of information to 6 rows of information. So at most I'm only wanting the top 3. If there is less than 3 rows for the readings_miu_id then the other columns need to be blank.     I'm trying to modify and existing Access application to use MySQL as a database via ODBC with the minimal amount of recoding. The current code will often insert a new record using DAO then obtain the ID by using LastModified. This doesn't work with MySQL. Instead I'm trying to use the approach using SELECT * FROM tbl_name WHERE auto_col IS NULL Suggested for Access in the MySQL documentation. However if I set up a sample table consisting of just an id and text data field and execute this CurrentDb.Execute ("INSERT INTO tbl_scratch (DATA) VALUES ('X')") Set rst = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset("SELECT id FROM tbl_scratch WHERE id IS NULL") myid = rst!id Id is returned as null. However if I execute INSERT INTO tbl_scratch (DATA) VALUES ('X'); SELECT id FROM tbl_scratch WHERE id IS NULL; using a direct MySQL editor then id is returned correctly, so my database and approach is fine but my implementation inside Access must be incorrect. Frustratingly the MySQL documentation gives the SQL statement to retrieve the id as an example that works in Access (as it states LAST_INSERT_ID() doesn't) but gives no further details. How might I fix this?

  • How to determine the date that Office 2003 was installed

    Is there any guaranteed way of determining the date that Office 2003 (and .Net Framework v2.0) were installed on a client computer? I am trying to nail down a problem which I think is due to the order that the .Net Framework and Office 2003 were installed in, so I need a way I can get a client to have a look at their machine (preferably the file system) and let me know. It may require admin privileges (or Registry etc) which wouldn't be a problem but not the preferred solution. It appears that the folders under Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11 have a number with the same date which at first sight appear to be an installation date / time. Likewise in Windows\Microsoft.Net\Framework\v2.0.50727 there are two with the same date, but this seems less certain. I could use WMI with a winmgmts:object and SELECT * FROM Win32_Product, but was wondering if there was a 'telephone' way to do it!

  • Can Delphi 5 generate a .PDB file that VS can use?

    We've got this large application written in Delphi 5, and development is ongoing to this day. There is research going on into migrating to newer versions, but so far there is no success, as some 3rd party components have not been updated in ages and do not work on later versions. In the meantime however people need to continue work on it. Now Delphi 5 IDE is no real treat. It's pretty bug-ridden and lacks a lot of features of contemporary IDEs which makes it difficult to use. Especially when it comes to debugging. So I was wondering - would it be possible to use Visual Studio in the process? As far as I know the .PDB file format is pretty old and is well documented. Could it be possible to make the Delphi compiler to somehow generate a .PDB files for it's compiled results? Then the program could be debugged with Visual Studio, possibly to a much greater extent than in the original IDE. Well, the absolute Holy Grail would be to move all development to VS, just keeping the compiler from Delphi, but I imagine that would be pretty impossible.

Several instances of the application may be running simultaneously and to distinguish them they each have their own run number. The run number is deduced from the log table thus... Would locking the recordset do any good (the row in the record set doesn't match any particular row in the database)?

    i am exploring the option of whether DoCmd.TransferText will do what i need, and it seems like it wont. i need to insert data if it does not exist and update it if it does exist i am planning to read a text file line by line like this: Dim intFile As Integer Dim strLine As String intFile = FreeFile() Open myFile For Input As #intFile Line Input #intFile, strLine Close #intFile i guess each individual line will be a record. it will probably be comma separated and some fields will have a " text qualifier because within the field itself i will have commas my question is how would i read a comma delimited text file that has double quotes sometimes as text qualifiers into a table in access?

    I have two tables, related by a common key. So TableA has key AID and value Name and TableB has keys AID, BID and values Name, Value: AID Name 74 Alpha AID BID Name Value 74 4 Beta Brilliance I would like to update the TableB Value here from Brilliance to Barmy, using just the Name fields. I thought I could do it via an UPDATE containing a JOIN, but Access (I know...) is complaining with 'Syntax error (missing operator) in query expression ' and then everything from 'Barmy' here: UPDATE tB SET tB.BValue='Barmy' FROM TableB tB INNER JOIN TableA tA ON tB.AID=tA.AID WHERE tB.Name='Beta' AND tA.Name='Alpha'; What is my heinous crime? Or is it just Access not conforming?

  • Get smallest date for each element in access query

    So I have a table containing different elements and dates. It basically looks like this: actieElement beginDatum 1 1/01/2010 1 1/01/2010 1 10/01/2010 2 1/02/2010 2 3/02/2010 What I now need is the smallest date for every actieElement. I've found a solution using a simple GROUP BY statement, but that way the query loses its scope and you can't change anything anymore. Without the GROUP BY statement I get multiple dates for every actieElement because certain dates are the same. I thought of something like this, but it also does not work as it would give the subquery more then 1 record: SELECT s1.actieElement, s1.begindatum FROM tblActieElementLink AS s1 WHERE (((s1.actieElement)=(SELECT TOP 1 (s2.actieElement) FROM tblActieElementLink s2 WHERE s1.actieElement = s2.actieElement ORDER BY s2.begindatum ASC)));

    i have a datasheet that looks like this: ID name_ 1 2 3 4 1 name1 x 0 0 0 2 name2 0 x 0 0 3 name3 0 0 x 0 4 name4 0 0 0 x i have rectangles on a report that correspond to this datasheet. when the report opens, i need the rectangles to be colored RED according to the data. for example where name1 and there is an x in the 1 column, i need the specific rectangle corresponding to this (name1, 1) to be colored red. here is the result that i will need: x x x x (where x is a rectangle that is RED) perhaps the best place to place this code would be in ON LOAD event of the report, but i am not sure exactly. can you please suggest to me some code that would turn the specified rectangles RED according to the data?

    In Access 2007 I have created a form with a textbox and a button. At the moment, when I press the button, I load a query with the textbox data passed as a parameter to the query criteria. I would like to change this so that all (manually input) options appear in a combobox (in place of the textbox). I would then like to pass the combobox text to a VBA module upon pressing the button. How do I do this? Similarly, I hope to output a different string from this module, and I hope to use this as the query criteria. How do I do this?

  • How can I get all the .pdb files in the same folder?

    I have a solution in Visual Studio 2008, it has dozens of projects. I would like to have all the pdb in the same folder. From the property page of a project I see that the pdb will go to the "Intermediate Directory"; also .obj files go to the "Intermediate Directory". Each of our projects has its own folder because we want to keep the .obj separated, at the same time I would like to have all the pdb in the same folder. Looking at the buildlog.htm I see the option /PDB which controls the pdb path, this option doesn't seem to me available in the property page. Maybe I will have to use a post buil script?

  • Query - Trying to SUM one field based on content of another field

    Table: DayOfWeek Enrollments Monday 35 Monday 12 Saturday 25 Tuesday 15 Monday 9 Tuesday 15 Basically I'm trying to sum the total enrolments for each day. so the Output will look like: DayOfWeek Enrollments Monday 56 Saturday 25 Tuesday 30 I've spent around 4 hours trying to work this out trying many many different ways but no luck. The problem I'm having is i can count how many enrollments for each day but can't have it aligned with the correct day when i run the query e.g. I want The total to be on the same line as the day it was calculated from. (I hope that is clear enough)
