  • [iphone] use NSString in other method?!

    It's really embarrassing but i stuck on it for two hours of trial and error. I declared an NSString in the interface as: NSString *testString; Then i made a property and synthesized it. I allocate it in viewDidLoad with: testString = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"thats my value: %i", row]; If i want to get the value of the string in another method it always return (null). So the string is empty, but why? how do i make it accessible for every function inside of one class? So i don't want to make a global var just a "global variable inside the class" It's really confusing because as long as i code i never ran into this problem :( thanks a lot for helping me!

  • How to customize the to_json method in rails3?

    I want to convert an array of Place objects to json, I've been doing it like this: var places = <%= @places.to_json.html_safe %>; The only problem is that every place in the @places array has an associated tag list that doesn't get included. I'm using the acts_as_taggable_on gem to handle tags, so to get the tag list for a place I need to say place.tag_list. What do I have to do to get the tag_list included for each place in the javascript array? I think I'll need to write my own to_json method but I don't know how. Thanks

    I was going through mit's opencourseware related to performance engineering. The quickest method (requiring least number of clock cycles) for finding the minimum of two numbers(say x and y) is stated as: min= y^((x^y) & -(x<y)) The output of the expression x < y can be 0 or 1 (assuming C is being used) which then changes to -0 or -1. I understand that xor can be used to swap two numbers. Questions: 1. How is -0 different from 0 and -1 in terms of binary? 2. How is that result used with the and operator to get the minimum? Basically I'm calling the onDraw method like so... requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_NO_TITLE); Preview mPreview = new Preview(this); DrawOnTop mDraw = new DrawOnTop(this); setContentView(mPreview); addContentView(mDraw, new LayoutParams (LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT, LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT)); You see I'm drawing it on top of a Camera view and the information being drawn is subject to change. I have a listener setup which will update the variables being drawn at the appropriate time but I now want to "refresh" this draw in that listener. How would I do such a thing?

    In .NET 3.5 List< gains a ForEach method. I notice this does not exist on IList< or IEnumerable< what was the thinking here? Is there another way to do this? Nice and simple short way to do this? I ask because I was at a talk where the speaker said always use the more general interfaces. But why would I use IList< as a return type if I want to be able to turn around and use ForEach? Then I would just end up casting it back to a List<.

  • jQuery on() method not working for appended elements

    I know I should use on() method for triggering appended elements and not use click(), so: $('#change_profile_img').on('click', function(){ alert(1); }); so the above code is working fine on any elements unless the appended elements, for example, I'm appending: $('.companylogo:first').append('<a id="change_profile_img" class="ic_change">CHANGE IMAGE</a>'); after it's appended, it's not working, but after a page refresh it works just fine. Another thing that I should mention, I'm doing the append from a modal page, it appends the button and everything but I could not trigger it anymore... I would appreciate any kind of help. Thanks

    I'm trying to create a method that will sum two timeO objects and return a new TimeO object called sum. Here is the relevant code snippet: public static TimeO add (TimeO t1, TimeO t2) { TimeO sum = new TimeO ; ... } When i try to compile it i get this error message: TimeO.java:15: '(' or '[' expected TimeO sum = new TimeO ; ^ 1 error i cant think of any reason why it would want me to open a set of parenthasies or brackets here but its possible that i dont' quite understand the syntax. Whats going wrong here?

  • calling a service layer method to my presentation layer

    Ok I feel really dumb asking this but I seem to be missing something really simple here. I have the following code in a class in my service layer - public Items getItems(String category, float amount, String color, String type) The code reads from a database and returns the results - I plan on placing it in a jframe. Nice and simple. But no matter how I call it from the jframe I get errors in eclipse that the code is wrong - either that their are illegal modifiers or such. So obviously I am calling it completely wrong, so my stupid question is how do you call that method into a jframe? For example - if I try to call it this way: public Items getItems(); I get told that getItems is an illegal parameter. If I call this.. Items getItems(); I am told its undefined

    I don't understand from jQuery documentation how "$.when" method works. I'm am new in jQuery, so sorry if my question is too simple. ' + tableProgress) ).done( function() { $('#table-progress').dataTable(); } ); It does not work, I think it's because .dataTable() pluggin can't find the table so I am trying to use jQuery $.when. What I need is: use .datatable pluggin in a table that is inserted in $("#send-one").html('done. ' + tableProgress) but, using .datatable() directly may not be synchronous to the insertion. I also tryied: $("#send-one").html('done. ' + tableProgress); $('#table-progress').dataTable(); Could you please help me?

    In my Rails app, I am used to using syntax like the following in a number of places, including helpers/application_helper.rb: def my_method(x,y) return x+y end I am also used to calling the resulting method from basically anywhere in my app using syntax like this: my_method(2,3) However, I'd like to be able to use syntax like like this: class_from_my_rails_app.my_method(3) How and where do I define my_method so I can use it like this?   • RSpec "undefined local variable or method `user'"

    I have the following test written in RSpec: describe '#create' do ... it 'redirects users to profile page' do response.should redirect_to user_path(user) end ... ... And the following in my UsersController: def create @user = User.new(params[:user]) if @user.save redirect_to user_path(@user) end end Does anyone know why this is returning the following error: NameError: undefined local variable or method 'user' I also tried changing this to be root_url in both cases instead of user_path(user) and it gave a different error saying: Expected response to be a <:redirect>, but was <200> Does anyone know what the issue might be? I have double-checked my code and have seen similar questions posted online, but haven't been able to find a solution. Thanks in advance for any help!

    To hide a column from only the view of JTable, i am using the removeColumn() method. But it throws the exception Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: 7 >= 7 at java.util.Vector.elementAt(Vector.java:470) at javax.swing.table.DefaultTableColumnModel.getColumn(DefaultTableColumnModel.java:294) at javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicTableHeaderUI.paint(BasicTableHeaderUI.java:648) i think, after removing column from the view, if i modified the model, then this exception pops out. is it because of there is no column in view, while the model is updating the table ? What is the best way to hide the column in view in JTable ? insteading of setting the sizes to 0.

However, when I try this, it always returns 7500 which is the value in the BaseClass and not the value of privateVar. In other words, is it possible to inherit a BaseClass's public methods but have any references in them refer to the SubClass's properties? And how would I do that?

    A colleague of mine states that booleans as method arguments are not acceptable. They shall be replaced by enumerations. At first I did not see any benefit, but he gave me an example. What's easier to understand? file.writeData( data, true ); Or enum WriteMode { Append, Overwrite }; file.writeData( data, Append ); Now I got it! ;-) This is definitely an example where an enumeration as second parameter makes the code much more readable. So, what's your opinion on this topic?

If var is an array then we can use extract but if var is not, we can wrap it in an array. Is there a better way? Thanks!
