    In Ruby, how do you call a class method from one of that class's instances? Say I have class Truck def self.default_make # Class method. "mac" end def initialize # Instance method. Truck.default_make # gets the default via the class's method. # But: I wish to avoid mentioning Truck. Seems I'm repeating myself. end end the line Truck.default_make retrieves the default. But is there a way of saying this without mentioning Truck? It seems like there should be.

  • How to group a database write and spreadsheet write in single "transaction"

    I have a Java program that writes results to both a DB (SQL Server) and a spreadsheet (POI), and it would be best if neither is written to if there's an error with either. It would be a lot worse if the spreadsheet was produced and then an error happened while saving to the DB, so I'm doing the DB-write first. Even so, I'm wondering if someone knows of a way to guarantee they both succeed or fail as a unit. Thanks!

  • MDX: How to exclude ancestors from being returned in this query?

    I have this MDX query: Exists([Group].[Group Hierarchy].allmembers, {[Group].[Group Full Name].&[121 - Group A], [Group].[Group Full Name].&[700000 - Group C]}) ... which works fine EXCEPT that it returns all of the ancestors of the specified groups as well. What I want is to return JUST the groups from the hierarchy with the specified Group Names (this is a type 2 dimension so there may be many at different levels). Any ideas?

    Hi guys. I have a few text fields and text views on my application's view. The keyboard comes up when I click in anyone of them. I have a method that gets called when any one of these objects is tapped in. However, I would like the method to execute its code only if the a certain Text Field(s) or a certain Text View(s) is tapped in. I would therefore like to have something like this in the method body: { if(currentField != mySpecialField) {return;} //Rest of the method code... } Now, my question is, how do I get a reference to the currently tapped in field so that I can perform the if-check. Thanks guys. I'm a total noobee in Objective-C. :(

    I have a method, which I wish to execute on the UI message pump and thus do the following: private void SomeMethod() { BeginInvoke(new MethodInvoker(MethodToInvoke)); } private void MethodToInvoke() { // This method contains code that I wish to execute on UI message pump. } Now, the above works just fine when I create a Debug build of the project.   • Why would a "view" object in Interface Builder prevent my didFinishLaunchingWithOptions method from

    You may have already come across some of my other questions related to question, but I was having an issue with a SplitView iPad app where my application:didFinishLaunchingWithOptions method stopped executing after I went into Interface Builder and changed around the structure of my apps interface. I couldn't figure out what was preventing my didFinishLauchingWithOptions method from executing, but then I removed a "view" object I had in my view heirarchy (shown below) and suddenly my didFinishLauchingWithOptions method started executing again. I've moved passed it now, but I'm still unclear why that would cause the problem. Any ideas why that "view" object would prevent the didFinishLaunchingWithOptions method from executing?

    Hi all, i would like to know what is the correct way to create a fullscreen view of a tabpage control. This page has other controls, and that controls has various events that are subscribed. I was trying creating a new fullscreen form and copy all controls of the tabs to that form, but with this approach i need to resubscribe every control to the corresponding handler. If i only add the references the subscription remains but when the fullscreen form is close also the referenced copied controls are lost.

I would really prefer to use a generic. The workaround that I have come up with is to change the model type to be an object.   • JQuery validation not working for checkbox group

    I'm having trouble getting JQuery validation to work with a set of checkboxes. I'm generating the checkboxes using an ASP.NET checkboxlist, and I've used JQuery to set the 'name' attribute to the same thing for each checkbox in the list. Here's the code that gets written to the browser. I'm setting the 'validate' attribute on the 1st checkbox to set the rule that at least one checkbox must be selected. The JQuery validation works for all other elements on the form, but not for the checkbox list. There are lots of examples of JQuery scripts that will do the validation, however I'm trying to avoid this as I'm generating the checkboxlist server side by a custom control so that it can be re-used across different pages that may or may not have JQuery enabled. I'm trying to enable the JQuery validation whilst being as unobtrusive as possible, so that pages will still work even if JQuery is disabled. Here are the relevant JQuery inclusions and JQuery initialisation script for the form wizard.   • jquery selecting all elements except the last per group

    I have a table that looks like: <table> <tr> <td>one</td><td>two</td><td>three</td><td>last</td> </tr> <tr> <td>blue</td><td>red</td><td>green</td><td>last</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Monday</td><td>Tuesday</td><td>Wednesday</td><td>last</td> </tr> </table> What I want is a jquery selector that will choose all but the last td of each table row. I tried: $("tr td:not(:last)").css("background-color","red"); //changing color just as a test... But instead of all cells but the last on each row being changed, all cells but the very last one in the table are selected. Similarly, if I change it to: $("tr td:last").css("background-color","red"); the only one that changes is the very last cell. How do I choose the last (or not last) of each row?

    I want to match YYYY-YY for sequential years. I at moment I'm trying to match where all the second YY is the 3rd and 4th characters in YYYY with 1 added to it. So far I've got {19|20}(\d{2})-(\d{2}), but not sure how to use ? with reference to (1) or whether I'm going about this the right way and finding out the inevitable "unknown unknowns" (like YY99) with this approach?   • Group and sort blog posts by date in Rails

    I've searched all over web and have not found the answer. I'm trying to have a very standard archive option for my blog based on date.     Hi, I am trying to call a simple method in my code behind using Jquery with Ajax. But I get a 404 not found exception everytime. Unfortunately this is a web forms solution. So I dont have all the perks of MVC :( It does get into the javascript method and gives the alert but won't go into my c# method. I'm trying to invoke a method with reflection that has a generic return type, like this: public class SomeClass<T> { public List<T> GetStuff(); } I get an instance of SomeClass with a call to a Repository's GetClass<T> generic method. MethodInfo lGetSomeClassMethodInfo = typeof(IRepository) .GetMethod("GetClass") .MakeGenericMethod(typeof(SomeClass<>); object lSomeClassInstance = lGetSomeClassMethodInfo.Invoke( lRepositoryInstance, null); After that, I this is where I try to invoke the GetStuff method: typeof(SomeClass<>).GetMethod("GetStuff").Invoke(lSomeClassInstance, null) I get an exception about the fact that the method has generic arguments. However, I can't use MakeGenericMethod to resolve the return type. Also, if instead of typeof(SomeClass<>) I use lSomeClassInstance.GetType() (which should have resolved types) GetMethod("GetStuff") returns null! UPDATE I have found the solution and will post the answer shortly.

    I am using a lot of my own validation methods to compare the data from one association to the other. I've noticed that I'm constantly checking that my associations aren't nil before trying to call anything on them, but I am also validating their presence, and so I feel that my nil checks are redundant. Here's an example: class House < ActiveRecord::Base has_one :enterance, :class => Door has_one :exit, :class => Door validates_presence_of :enterance, :exit validate :not_a_fire_hazard def not_a_fire_hazard if enterance && exit && enterance.location != exit.location errors.add_to_base('If there is a fire you will most likely die') return false end end end I feel like I am repeating myself by checking the existence of enterance and exit within my own validation. Is there a more "The Rails Way" to do this?

  • Running Send_SMS method from BroadcastReceiver

    My application is an auto-reply application for text messages. I have a BroadcastReceiver for when a message arrives, and I need it to run a public method (Send_SMS). SMS_Sender.sendSMS(phoneNumber, messageText); does not work however, and eclipse wants to change my method to static. This would not be an issue if I did not have more receivers that catch when the message is sent/delivered/etc in this class. These receivers are then errors for being contained in a static method. So my question is, how do I run this method from a broadcast receiver so I can send the auto reply whenever it is triggered with a received message? -Thank you in advance, Nate
