    I have a simple slideshow (jQuery Cycle) that displays an image every ten seconds (7 total images). In an adjacent div, I have a list with 7 bullet points. What's the easiest way to script a method in which the css/style of the appropriate bullet point changes as its accompanying image. The idea is to have all list items displayed, but 1 highlighted every 10 seconds?

  • Can web apps allow fast data-typists to "type-ahead"?

    In some data entry contexts, I've seen data typists, type really fast and know so well the app they use, and have a mechanic quality in their work so that they can "type ahead", ie continue typing and "tab-bing" and "enter-ing" faster than the display updates, so that in many occasions they are typing in the data for the next form before it draws itself. Then when this next entry form appears, their keystrokes fill the text boxes and they continue typing, selecting etc. In contexts like this, this speed is desirable, since this persons are really productive. I think this "type ahead of time" is only possible in desktop apps, but I may be wrong. My question is whether this way of handling the keyboard buffer (which in desktop apps require no extra programming) is achievable in web apps, or is this impossible because of the way web apps work, handle sessions, etc (network latency and the overhead of generating new web pages ) ? Edit: By "type ahead" I mean "keyboard type ahead" (typing faster than the next entry form can load), not suggets-as-you-type-like-google type ahead. Typeahead is a feature of computers and software (and some typewriters) that enables users to continue typing regardless of program or computer operation—the user may type in whatever speed he or she desires, and if the receiving software is busy at the time it will be called to handle this later. Often this means that keystrokes entered will not be displayed on the screen immediately. This programming technique for handling user what is known as a keyboard buffer.

For example, suck as Movie, Work, QtProjects, Music and so on.And I keep the habit of initial the first letter for file name or folder name in Windows. But now I work on Ubuntu, and I found that all file name and folder name are lowercase in addition to the default folder such as Music, Movie and so on. And then I realize that in Linux world, most peoloe like to use all lowercase to name their files and folders for two reasons (1. Linux is Case sensitive. 2. It is fast for shell command.). And after work, when I switch from Linux to Windows, I confuse to use all lowercase or the first letter uppercase style to name my files in Windows. I'm caught in a dilemma. I think that all lowercase is more efficiency but the first letter uppercase is more readable. I thought for a long time and want to come up with a good answer to blance the two style name conversion. But I failed. I want to ask you that how you balance the uppercase or lowercase habbit in Windows, Mac, Linux between work and personal life style? Thank you very much!   • Is it possible to hide Launcher for certain apps?

    As 14.04LTS has been released I thought I'd try to make larger switch to Ubuntu - especially considering most of the apps I use at work are at last available in Linux versions (with the major exception being Rhino3d v5 - hope that it will be possible to launch it with Wine somehow). But as I use my PC for 3D design I need every damn inch of screen space. And this is where Launcher becomes a pain. While in general I like it (as well as the rest of Unity) when I do office work (emails, docs etc) it has turned out to be a major pain with 3D apps and tablet. I'd like to set launcher to hide when certain apps are maximized. Is it possible? If not is it possible to set it as intellihide/stay in the background globally, so it won't be visible when any app is maximized? Autohide is (sadly) not a good solution - the way Ubuntu handles revealing the hidden bar is tricky to work with when you use a graphic tablet (but to be honest I have gripes with it even when using a mouse). I need the bar to disappear or stay in the background so it won't take screen space - 3D apps have way too much menus that eat valuable screen space already.

  • Update tile notifcation with XML returned by web service

    I have a Metro app in C# & XAML. The tile is updated periodically and I've used WebAPI to serve the tile notification XML. So far so good. I was then told that I cannot use WebAPI as the server that I was planning to host it on does not have .NET 4.5. No plans to install it anytime soon either. I had to change the WebAPI to a plain old Web service (.NET 3.5) which does the same thing - return tile notification XML. I've enabled HTTP-GET (I know, security concern) and was able to invoke the webservice like this - http://server/TileNotifications.asmx/[email protected] But ever since I made the switch, the tiles are not being updated. I've checked Fiddler and made sure the app is hitting the webservice and the XML is being returned correctly. But the tiles are not updated. If I replace it with the WebAPI, the tiles are updated. Do I need to do anything special with the web services? like decorating the web method with a custom attribute?     Hi, I have a question about list views. I hope someone knows the solution, because I have been trying to solve this problem all weekend. I want two things: When the item is focused, the typical orange rectangle should appear over it, and the same When the item is pressed. I have proved with a selector and a custom style but all I get is or the selector doesn't appear or the selector covering the item so I can't see it. If anyone could help me with finding the right code I would be very grateful. Thanks

  • any real MVC library in PHP (for GUI apps)

    I'm wondering if there are any abstraction frameworks for one of the PHP gui libraries. We have PHP-GTK, a PHP/Tk interface, and seemingly also PHP-QT. (Not tried any.) I know that writing against the raw Gtk+ interface in Python is just bearable, and it therefore seems not very enticing for PHP. I assume it's the same for Qt, and Tk is pretty low-level too. So I'm looking for something that provides a nicer object structure atop any of the three. Primarily TreeViews are always a chore and php-gtk callbacks are weird in PHP, so I'd like a simplification for that. If it eases adding the GUI/View atop my business logic without much control code, that might already help. And so since GUI apps are an area where MVC or MVP would actually make sense, I'd like to know if any library for that exists. Btw, recently rediscovered PHP interface preprocessor, but that's rather low-level and just provides a simple widget/interface abstraction for Gtk/ncurses/pdf/xhtml output.

  • Multiple calls with Simple Modal OSX Style Dialog

    I am using Simple Modal, the OSX style version. I have two calls to the modal and therefore two versions of content. When either of the buttons is clicked it selects only the first lot of content. There is nowhere to put a hook on the content like most modal windows as there is no javascript on the page to add parameters... only an external .js file which I don't want to touch for obvious reasons.     i am trying to deploy rails3 apps with the latest phusion passenger 2.2.11 and ruby-enterprise-1.8.7-2010.01. i am using bundler, but passenger seems to not be able to find the .bundle dir. error message: git://github.com/rails/rails.git (at master) is not checked out. Please run `bundle install` (Bundler::PathError) where do i install the .bundle? where do i tell passenger which bundle to use? any hints? thanks!

    I am trying to write class that inherits from FMX TStyledControl. When style is updated it loads style resource objects to cache. I created project group for package with custom controls and test FMX HD project as it describes in Delphi help. After installing package and placing TsgSlideHost on the test form I run test app. It’s work well, but when I close it and try to rebuild package RAD Studio says “Error in rtl160.bpl” or “invalid pointer operation”. It seems what problem in LoadToCacheIfNeeded procedure from TsgStyledControl, but I’m not understand why. Is there any restriction on using RTTI with FMX styles or anything?   • jQuery UI Autocomplete - style like a standard <SELECT>

    I'm on the verge of starting a new web application that is likely to have need for both standard, simple dropdowns as well as more feature-rich autocomplete controls for longer lists of values, better type ahead behavior, etc. I'm planning on using the jQuery UI Autocomplete widget along with some combobox behavior as detailed here: http://jqueryui.com/demos/autocomplete/#combobox My concern is that "out of the box" the Autocomplete widget looks very different than a standard control. Since is not easy to skin/style, I'm hoping to adjust the Autocomplete to look & feel as close to the as possible, except in the cases where the increased functionality justifies a different L&F. What is the best way to go about reskinning the Autocomplete to look more like a ? Has this already been done somewhere? Should I use jQuery UI theming? Other options?

Today I came across a naming rule for static fields, namely prefixing with an underscore ie. private static string _myString; Is this really the standard way to name static variables? If so is it just personal preference and style, or does it have some sort of lower level impact? Eg Compilation JIT etc? Where does this style originate from? I have always associated it with C++, is that correct?

  • Facebook Canvas Apps, New API

Also, with the new API and an FBML app. How does this exactly work? The documentation is really poor so I am confused when looking at the old wiki, and the new developer site. Apologies for being pretty vague, but I'm just generally confused with the lack of clear direction with the new API and help would be greatly appreciated. I'm simply just trying to create a call that prompts for the new style user permission dialog, and oncomplete calls another JS function.

  • Style Switcher & Text Resizer Combined?

    Hi there, I've came across various style switchers that allow you to change the stylesheet (i.e. Light, Dark, High Contrast), and carious text-resizers that allow you to resize the test (usually with Three A's, small, medium and large). However, I can't seem to find a single switcher/resizer that works well together by allowing permutations of the two. i.e. so the user can choose a dark background with small text, or a dark background with large text, etc. I can only seem to get this working where the user can choose one or the other styles (large text or High Contrast, not a combination of the two). Any ideas on anything that may be suitable for this at all? Thanks, Stephen

I'm doing some stuff in Python and I realized what I really want is a functional-style datatype like (for example) datatype phoneme = Vowel of string | Consonant of voice * place * manner datatype voice = Voiced | Voiceless datatype place = Labial | Dental | Retroflex | Palatal | Velar | Glottal datatype manner = Stop | Affricate | Fricative | Nasal | Lateral type syllable = phoneme list Does anyone have a particular way that they like to simulate this in Python?

    Did anyone get that to work? I mean, unit testing .Net CF apps on Windows Mobile 6.5.3 in Visual Studio 2008. It works great for a WM 6 Pro target, but not for a WM 6.5.3 target. I get this error: The test adapter ('Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestTools.TestTypes.Unit.UnitTestAdapter, Microsoft.VisualStudio.QualityTools.Tips.UnitTest.Adapter, Version=9.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a') required to execute this test could not be loaded. Check that the test adapter is installed properly. Not enough storage is available to process this command. Yes, I can read the error text, but I don't understand the failed run. Any clues?

  • Dynatree multi - selection implementaion ala Windows style

    I would like to implement windows style multi-selection: when user holds CTRL key and selects several nodes of the tree. Dynatree (from here http://wwwendt.de/tech/dynatree/doc/dynatree-doc.html) by default has checkboxes for node selection which my client doesn't seem to like. My question is, is it possible to implement what I need using provided set of callbacks? also, curently, when I hold CTRL key and click on the node, it opens a new window. Is there any way to suppress this functionality? i am guess I would have to do through CSS?

I have found a way to do this but I am not satisfied with it as it seems like a hack.
