• iPhone Accelerometer Values

  My question is about the iPhone accelerometer. Does the accelerometer measure acceleration or movement of the iPhone? What I mean is if I hold the iPhone and go from 0mph to 60mph, I would expect the measure of acceleration to increase in value from 0 to 60, but once I reach 60, I expect the value to return to 0 since I am "no longer accelerating" but am moving at a constant speed. Now if the accelerometer measure motion, I would expect it to register 0 to 60 and continue to provide a change in value as I move forward at 60mph. Sorry, I looked at a few books, programmed some code (values seemed to small to give a recognizable result over short distances or speeds), and a lot of web searches, and I am trying to get an answer to this question. • Bind an Incode DataTemplate in WPF

  I have a WPF Application which is using MVVM. I know that there ways of doing this in XAML but I am working on a plugin architecture and came up with a solution where a plugin exposes it's viewmodel to my plugin host's viewmodel and it's datatemplate. I want to leave the lifetime management of the plugin view up to WPF. I have tried having the plugins expose a UserControl but ran into issues when WPF decided to dispose of my UserControl so I would not reattach it without weird hacky work arounds. I am having issues getting some sort of binding working to where i can bind a control to the data and it's template to my data template. I have a ViewModel which looks something like: public class MyViewModel { public DataTemplate SelectedTemplate{ get; set;} public object SelectedViewModel {get; set;} } The selected template and viewmodel are determined somewhere else in the code but are irrelevant to my question. My question is how i can bind to a DataTemplate so that I know how to display the data shown in the SelectedViewModel. The DataTemplate is a DataTemplate created incode which respresents: <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type vm:MyViewModel}"> <v:MyUserControl /> </DataTemplate> I have tried: <UserControl Template="{Binding Path=SelectedTemplate}" Content="{Binding Path=SelectedViewModel"} /> But UserControl expects a control template and not a data template.

• What's the best CDN for image hosting on a high-volume web site?

  Akamai is way too expensive. Photobucket is not reliable. Is there a great content delivery network that I can use just to host my images? We deploy images programmatically via FTP, so there is some programming behind the scenes. Having some sort of reporting about the reliability of the service, whether it's raw logs files or a web-based admin screen that shows http errors, would also be important. Has anyone worked with edgecast?

• Storing data with a stand-alone C++ application

  I work with Apache, PHP, and MySQL for web development and local applications. For the past couple of years I have slowly been learning C++ and want to build an application this summer. Specifically, I want to make a "library" application in which I can store information about the books, CDs, and records that I own. I know this type of app exists, but I want to learn C++ and this seems like a good way to go about it. Here are a few questions: Is it possible to create a stand-alone application that does not require a database for storing data? If the answer to #1 above is "yes", is it a good idea to do this for an application that could potentially need to manage a lot of data? What data-storage options would you recommend for use with a C++ application? Thanks!

• Javascript - Function call will not enter function body

  I have a function acting as a constructor that, when called, gets as far as the function definition in the debugger, but never to the function body. Is there a common reason this may happen that I am overlooking?   I created/edited a .htaccess file and I got my site password protected fine. Question though: Is there such thing as a URL key? • How do I calculate the average direction of two vectors

  Hi, I am writing and opengl based iphone app and would like to allow a user to translate around a view based on the direction that they move two fingers on the screen. For one finger I know I could just calculate the vector from the start position to the current position of the users finger and then find the unit vector of this to get just the direction, but I don't know how I would do this for two fingers, I don't think adding the components of the vectors and calculating the average would work so I'm pretty much stuck... thanks in advance

  I am trying to get my first button to update a display number in my view when clicked. This view will have several buttons and "outputs" displayed. When I had set the view to have a TextView with the number set as a string , the number displayed, but I could not figure out how to update the text with a numerical field. That may be my real problem. I have gone through many examples generally referenced from the dev. site (UI, Common Tasks, various samples), and I am still not seeing the connection here... Again, this is simply a try at getting variables to respond to buttons and update on the view. So, a few Q's for anyone that can help; 1) Is there any easier way of doing this (ie. send numerical value to View) ? 2) Why isn't my TextSwitcher displaying the number? 3) Should I be using a TextSwitcher here? 4) Any examples of this you can point me to?

• Can someone tell me why my dataset wont save correctly to the database in simple winforms app?

  I have been struggling with this all day and I know it is probably something stupid. My code is below. If I call save then exit my program and start again I can save images to my events but if I just call save when I try to add an image and call save again I get a foreign key error. From what I know I thought my save method was updating the database from my dataset so the event associated with the image should exist. Anyway here is my save method...   Hello! I'm looking for a little database design advice... I have a spreadsheet with a few columns in it. Column 1 being a list of categories and the rest being related categories(to the category in column 1). I'm trying to figure out what the best way to setup the tables would be... My thought so far is to have a table that just lists the categories then have a table with 2 columns that holds the id of the category and the id of a related category.... Would this be the best way to do this? Any better ideas?

• Is there a slick way to deploy my silverlight app and change settings programmatically?

  I am fairly new to web development. I am at the point of deployment (for testing). I have a few places (maybe 4 places) where I had to add a URI that was non-relative into the appliation. So now, at deployment, those need to be changed. Is there a slick way of handling this? By slick I mean not manually going through the app and changing the URIs or a blanket find and replace (too risky). I only have 4 places to change now, but this could easily change and cause deployment issues. I am using a Microsoft technology stack. Silverlight, ASP.NET, RIA, etc. Development is done in Visual Studio 2010. I noticed that the web projects have a nifty transformation for the web.config...which is nice. Is there an equivalent mechanism for silverlight resources? Any other ways? Any thoughts?

  Is there a way to keep the value binding to the object, but have the optionsValue be a property on the object. As of now if I specify both, the optionsValue property that is selected will populate the value binding. Id like to keep the object intact in the observable, but specify what value to be set in the select list value. • Using adaptive step sizes with scipy.integrate.ode

  The (brief) documentation for scipy.integrate.ode says that two methods (dopri5 and dop853) have stepsize control and dense output. Looking at the examples and the code itself, I can only see a very simple way to get output from an integrator. Namely, it looks like you just step the integrator forward by some fixed dt, get the function value(s) at that time, and repeat. My problem has pretty variable timescales, so I'd like to just get the values at whatever time steps it needs to evaluate to achieve the required tolerances. That is, early on, things are changing slowly, so the output time steps can be big. But as things get interesting, the output time steps have to be smaller. I don't actually want dense output at equal intervals, I just want the time steps the adaptive function uses.

• Project works in eclipse but not when exported

  I wrote an application that uses GraphViz to generate some graphs as .gif's according to the DOT syntax. When I run from Eclipse the images are generated fine but when I export it as a jar the images are created but there is no data in them. When I view them in Microsoft Picture Viewer its just the red X. It was working as an exported jar until I put the picture generation in its own thread. I can't seem to figure out whats going on here. Are there any problems exporting multi-threaded projects? Any one have any ideas? Thanks
