  • How do I trigger Google Website Optimizer code on download?

    I have a site that I'm optimizing using Google Website Optimizer where the goal is to have someone click on a link to download some software. But the google optimizer code that's provided will get triggered on any page where the link is on. Is there any way to have it execute only when someone actually clicks the download button?   • Bootstrap responsive CSS [migrated]

    I have a four column design and I am using Bootstrap. The design renders fine in a single column in mobile devices, but in "(min-width: 768px) and (max-width: 979px)", I get four columns though there is room for only two. So clearly, the rows/spans setup would need to be rethought for those sizes. The only way I can imagine of doing this is to have semantic CSS classes used in the HTML and only including grid classes in the CSS using LESS, and then depending on screen size, including different grid classes to achieve four or two column layout.     What are the major differences between Windows CE and Windows Mobile for a programmer? I'd love to find a feature table, but haven't been able to find one on the Microsoft web site. I'm starting to work on a project involving industrial handheld terminals. I'm early into the design phase and need to find a comparison of Windows CE and Windows Mobile. Many of the people I'll be talking to jump on the first option that sounds "good enough". I want my first suggestion to be the best based on their needs. We're talking heavy duty hardware with a heavy duty price. I've got to get the programming questions out of the way early. We're currently a MFC6 and .Net 2.0 shop

  • How well does knowledge of J2ME generalize to other mobile platforms?

    I'm considering taking mobile phone software development course at my university. The course uses J2ME with an emulator. I'm interested in software development for mobile phones, but I get the impression that J2ME is somewhat stale and limited in comparison to the newer platforms like the iPhone and Android. I'm most interested in Android, as I dislike the closed nature of the iPhone. So if I take the course, how well would the skills acquired transfer to a platform like Android? And I have a related question. I'm pretty comfortable with Java (and various other programming languages), but I haven't used J2ME. Is there anything that makes it particularly painful to program with? (Not that Java is that pleasant anyway :))

  • html5 offline storage for Windows Mobile 6.1 or an alternative?

    I understand that there are no browsers currently which support offline storage for mobile 6.1. I am trying to find a web form based solution avoiding the loss of data when my device has no connectivity. Have ruled out Gears and would like to avoid a win forms application as the forms change so often. Are there any other approaches that I should look at which are viable in C#? Are there any estimated dates for when we might see a browser for mobile 6.1 which can offer offline storage? Thanks

  • How to detect mobile and tablet using CSS or JavaScript regardless of brands?

    Basically what I'm trying to do is have 3 css stylesheets for desktop, mobile, and tablet. And I don't care if it is ipad or samsung galaxy tab as long as I know it is a tablet, so that I just apply tablet css to it. Same as iphone or Nexus which I don't care either. I just care about the dimension basically. That would be good if JQuery Mobile could do this. I know there is lots of code for detecting iphone, ipad, and etc, hope my post still makes sense. Thanks.

    When working with Sitecore there are some optimizations/configurations I usually repeat in order to make my app production ready. Following is a small list I have compiled from experience, Sitecore documentation, communicating with Sitecore Engineers etc. This is not supposed to be technically complete and might not be fit for all environments.   Simple configurations that can make a difference: 1) Configure Sitecore Caches. This is the most straight forward and sure way of increasing the performance of your website. Data and item cache sizes (/databases/database/ [id=web] ) should be configured as needed. You may start with a smaller number and tune them as needed. <cacheSizes hint="setting"> <data>300MB</data> <items>300MB</items> <paths>5MB</paths> <standardValues>5MB</standardValues> </cacheSizes> Tune the html, registry etc cache sizes for your website.   <cacheSizes> <sites> <website> <html>300MB</html> <registry>1MB</registry> <viewState>10MB</viewState> <xsl>5MB</xsl> </website> </sites> </cacheSizes> Tune the prefetch cache settings under the App_Config/Prefetch/ folder.     When designing a website to be accessed from an embedded webserver such as KLone, what do you need to do differently compared to a 'standard' web server. I'm talking about considerations at the front end design stage, before the actual building and coding up. For example, typically in such situations, memory size is a premium, so I guess larger images are out, and maybe more attention should be focused on achieving a good look and feel using CSS/Javascript rather than bitmap images.
